- OneRottenTomato, on 03/03/2009, -19/+748I say make it illegal! Many have died doing it.
I had a friend almost make me try this once, because he is always doing it. Almost everyday. He's real lazy because of it. He said, "Come on, man. Let's go. It's like your floating on air." He was crazy because he wanted me to do it on my way to work. The ass even does it on his lunch breaks.
It felt wrong because the government says many start when they are young and many die trying it. Bad parents even get their kids started on it. While I know there will be a majority of responsible people who will not abuse it as a recreation, there will always be a handful of people who will use it recklessly, so I say it's best we keep it out of every ones hands for the greater good.
Oh, this is about cannabis? I thought we were talking about driving cars.
Well, shoot, no one in recorded history has ever died from cannabis use. Legalize it! - RJ0534, on 03/03/2009, -6/+371LEGALIZE IT...
because i'm tired of reading the same story 5 times a day - manbeef, on 03/03/2009, -4/+294For a minute there I thought you were an imbecile. Good show.
- nanowerx, on 03/03/2009, -9/+159That seems like an awful lot of money for the government to not at least consider. Funny that the ***** economy will probably be the major factor that eventually gets pot legalized, and I couldn't be happier.
- quato, on 03/03/2009, -8/+140I can't believe in 2009 we are still locking people up for this *****. How is marijuana any worse than alcohol? Tax them both, free up our courts and prisons, and use the money to pay off the deficit/ new schools/ health care etc. This would also cut off half the cartel trade Mexico is having so much trouble with.

- theskillwithin, on 03/03/2009, -17/+90it could be $7+ Billion.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -5/+77Your comment started to get serious and then... it became a joke. I see what y.. nvm.
- DArangio, on 03/03/2009, -12/+64i'm stoned right now. i don't know why i needed to share that.
- omgTHEPATRIOTS, on 03/03/2009, -2/+53The article didn't even consider that from a federal standpoint, legalizing marijuana would help the fight against the Mexican drug cartels be squeezing up to 2/3rds of their funding, not to mention also create more stateside jobs in the process.
It should really be a no-brainer for the Obama adminstration, lets cross our fingers.... - jfulls, on 03/03/2009, -4/+54I dugg you down so I could digg you up twice.
- AllHereTruth, on 03/03/2009, -1/+48Is it really that hard to read till the end
- JonForTheWin, on 03/03/2009, -0/+43It doesn't matter if it's worse than alcohol. It's not the terrorist government's ***** god damn business what you do on your own time with your own monies as long as you stay the ***** off my lawn, *****.
- censormagnet, on 03/03/2009, -3/+44just when i think california cant get ANY DUMBER they go and do something like this
..... and TOTALLY REDEEM THEMSELVES!! TOKE UP BROTHERS! hahahaha - X9001, on 03/03/2009, -1/+36No, not every one should get stoned. Some people with high anxiety and deep emotional problems tend to freak out. So please. . . smoke responsibly
- AndrewDB, on 03/03/2009, -2/+36And here's the daily Legalize it story.
Smoke em if you've got em, and digg it up.. right folks? - bingQ, on 03/03/2009, -8/+40dugg for the bob dylan song.
- Nato, on 03/03/2009, -1/+29it's not the right way to go about it. it's a sin tax error.
- ScionAltera, on 03/03/2009, -1/+27No. The slippery slope is a fallacy. That's like saying that because Viagra passed the FDA, every drug will eventually pass the FDA. Making marijuana legal has no bearing on whether other drugs are considered for legalization.
- jfulls, on 03/03/2009, -3/+27If you digg someone down, you can digg them up twice. I was just pointing out that I enjoyed his comment a lot.
Jerks! - ScionAltera, on 03/03/2009, -2/+26It's not the first sin tax, so there is no "precedent" being set here. Tobacco cigarettes are heavily taxed. Distilleries are nearly impossible to get licenses to start, and breweries aren't all that easy either. The legalization and regulation of marijuana follows in well established legal territory from when we ended the prohibition of alcohol, and from how we handle tobacco products.
While I'm on the subject, I think it's a brilliant tactic to use the word "prohibition" with marijuana. I've been seeing that more often lately. People think of the prohibition of alcohol as stupid and wasteful, and most are glad we repealed it. Associating the same word, and thus the same feelings with marijuana is likely to be very effective. - inactive, on 03/03/2009, -1/+24Because your consciousness is above us all mere mortals.
- ruski1985, on 03/03/2009, -1/+24I had to try it, and by jove it works. Net +1 for you jfulls from me.
- DiggzDE, on 03/03/2009, -0/+23If it were legalized throughout America though California would be making bank. According to High Times Magazine (yes, I consider it a source) we export to other states something around 56% of America's cannabis.
Trust me on it, I have a blog that I don't write anything in. ;) - Cybird88, on 03/03/2009, -2/+23This story has been on the front page far too much. If I were blind I would've seen it by now.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -15/+35yup..because it is as simple as taking the amount grown in CA now, and multiplying it by $50 an ounce! You are more advanced in economics than the expets! After al, you have a Digg account! That makes you an expert on everything.
- aimhelix, on 03/03/2009, -5/+25You got this close:
as I almost pulled the red trigger. - JayD16, on 03/03/2009, -5/+24Who is Al and what makes him an expet?
- JayD16, on 03/03/2009, -0/+18@middleblocker
That's why the mob still makes the best bath tub mint juleps in the nation. It costs a little more but it's worth it.
/s - inactive, on 03/03/2009, -9/+27It is imperative that everyone gets stoned ASAP.
Please parents, get your children stoned NOW.
If everyone got high, humanity would finally understand how we're grains of sand in the Universe, and a money-based society suddenly stops making sense. They would realize the very essence of what makes us rational beings with the power to change a system from a pyramid to a perfect circle of mutual help and love, yes?
Or maybe we're still 600 years away from that kind of global epiphany? Well, I'll be waiting in the shade of thoughts that breaks me down into elements and sounds. - mst3kcrow, on 03/03/2009, -1/+19Good, get him away from the internets. The last time I talked to a stoned person on digg, I ended up having to pull a dead lolcat from a clogged tube.
- AllHereTruth, on 03/03/2009, -9/+27God knows what Bill O'Reilly does. I'd hate to see his pharmacy bill.
- gitchie, on 03/03/2009, -1/+18I disagree. It's a decision that should be up to the states, not the federal government. What the federal government needs to do is abandon their regulations and let each state decide.
- brundlefly76, on 03/03/2009, -2/+18There is an important missing variable in this equation - once you regulate marijuana, the primary overhead of legal risk is removed, which will drive prices (and projected taxes) down. Then you have massive open competition, driving prices down further, and eventually pot *is* a vegetable commodity sale.
Whats more important - especially in California - is 'what will be the penalty for unregulated small grows?'. Because if people arent going to go to jail for having an unregulated plant or six in their garden for their own use, demand for taxed weed will drive down even further.
All I'm saying is that you can't use the illegal sales figures to project the tax revenue on legal weed. - jfujita, on 03/03/2009, -2/+18Well, they'll stone ya when you're trying to be so good,
They'll stone ya just a-like they said they would.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to go home.
Then they'll stone ya when you're there all alone.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned. - inactive, on 03/03/2009, -3/+19Mexico has been a piece of ***** for a long time anyway. I think they spend all of their money keeping cancun nice so people will still go to Mexico.
- jfulls, on 03/03/2009, -3/+18..except grammar
- emjaymj, on 03/03/2009, -1/+16That's me. Anxiety and depression don't mix well with weed :(
But even though I can't smoke it, it's absolutely ridiculous that people who choose to are being labeled criminals. - Heavypettingzoo, on 03/03/2009, -0/+14You trolled all over yourself
- KiraDnote, on 03/03/2009, -6/+19Drugs need to be legalized by the federal government, not by the states. We need uniform laws everywhere. And YES this needs to be done ASAP.
- RepublicofJosh, on 03/03/2009, -0/+13The market would be flooded with it... In economic terms: the supply would be higher than the demand... therefore prices drop. Legal weed should be cheaper than illegal weed.
- quato, on 03/03/2009, -5/+18Sin tax? We already allow alcohol and firearms to be sold. Even prostitution is legal is some places. It's not like legalizing marijuana is a huge leap.
Our medical use legislation is a joke. Until the federal government changes the laws, there will still be federal raids on Grow ops, and Cancer patients looking for a humane way to ease their pain. - inactive, on 03/03/2009, -0/+12can anyone tell me how close legalization is to actually being passed? is this all just talk at this point?
- Vaiper, on 03/03/2009, -0/+12Amen! What the ***** is wrong with people? Mind your own god damn business. People need to stop worrying what their neighbor is doing.
- RAGEdemon, on 03/03/2009, -1/+12The funny thing is, if it is legalised, it'll no longer be thought of as "cool" and there will be less smokers than there are now.
One of the best ways to make people do something is to tell them NOT to do it. - jfulls, on 03/03/2009, -1/+12I dugg you up so I could digg you down twice :)
- teemingvoid, on 03/03/2009, -2/+13I love you
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -9/+20Dugg for the title.
- IpwnZnoobs, on 03/03/2009, -2/+13it wouldnt be creating jobs, just making those jobs legit
- hillbillyboy07, on 03/03/2009, -4/+15My thoughts exactly.
