- MurphyWatson, on 10/11/2007, -5/+59Yeah, Nixon actually did some great stuff, and the crimes that he committed didn't hurt our country as much as what Bush /Cheney have done.
I'd be scared if Bush resigned because that means we'd be stuck with Cheney, and thats probably worse. - h4mx0r, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33Definately. Watergate was just one big black mark in an even larger career, whereas Bush on the other hand...
- DrDragun, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26I have lost all faith in the citizens because of the re-election of Bush in '04 after it was proven that the WMD Intelligence was deliberately mispresented to ***** trick the American people into war. A cheap ***** trick. Started a war. And you re-elected him. Afterwards his Neo-Con posse just kind of said "hey, Saddam was a horrible person, we did some good so it's all fine" NO U ***** TOOL ITS NOT FINE, we don't start wars with countries because they are run by bad dudes. There are hundreds of countries run by bad dudes. That policy destabilizes the whole globe, we would be at war forever. We went to Iraq because YOU ***** LIED TO US about WMD's, and you did it on purpose.
Then you re-elected them. My faith in the voters is gone and I will never again be surprised by how dumb the American citizen can really be. THe saddest part is that 45% of people think Iraq and 9/11 are related. Guys, this was only 6 god-damned years ago. We went to war with AFGHANISTAN because of 9/11. Iraq was NOT related. Iraq was because of WMD's. - sfn8, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17Also our beer.
- Lylepalooza, on 10/11/2007, -5/+21First off, I like Americans and America. You're all great people. I was all ready to write some big educated piece, but I digress.
Unfortunately, your two leading parties are weak as piss, your power to choose your government is weak as piss, your economy...weak as piss... your healthcare....weak as piss.... foreign policy....weak as piss.... war on drugs/terror... weak as piss
Your country is seriously falling apart and the most you can do is Digg an article? Good luck. - fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -6/+22This is an incredible speech, but isn't this at least the fourth time this has gotten to upcoming? It has already been on the front page at least once.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Ah, the mating cry of the demented right-winger. "CLINTONNNNNN!!"
They'll still be whining about the Clenis in another 7 years, folks. Get over it, foolio, even if Clinton was the ***** anti-christ, doesn't give Bush the right to ***** the country over the way he has done. - leonardoty, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14I don't totally understand the whole Nixon issue, I wasn't alive during that time.
However, I do understand this with the Clinton-Bush Administrations:
Clinton screwed an intern.
Bush screwed a country. - ddmulholland, on 10/11/2007, -7/+19IMPEACH! Contact your representatives! Demand justice.
http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm - andregriffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10They both need to be out.
- bdub92, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14When are people going to realize...Impeaching Bush will do close to nothing. All it will do is give Cheney a chance at the power he's been going after.
- m2313, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13But...but..but Clinton...
It's an argument that can be used against both of them and when Bill didn't do that they impeached him. The only reason we don't impeach Bush is because nobody wants an evil genius for president (VP). Quit being a partisan douche. - sivart84, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Yes, but your point seems less valid when posted in response to a topic that does not have the word 'impeach' anywhere in the title or description...
- Kallius, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11At least Nixon had a shred of conscience. Bush, Cheney and their ilk are sociopaths at best.
- ToddIU03, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I find it ironic that a man who ran so strongly on a moral platform has such an immoral presidency. Unfortunately, I think the general public, mainly middle America (I'm looking at you Nebraska, Iowa, Ohio, Utah), is too stupid to realize the freedoms that have been taken from us.
- Aokami, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I respect your truthfulness. The big problem I see the average US digger running into is the difficult question of what the heck are we supposed to do about it? Since we were young we have been told the shining glory of our country is that it works for the people. In fact it is the people. The zeal of rebellion from the 60's has been effectively slaughtered in the newer generations by a culture with such a high turnover rate that it is possible to believe that if you close your eyes for long enough it will all be sorted out. We have no central gathering place to gather and throw our fists in the air as many of us can barely stand the thought of leaving our world of security. That's what the elected are supposed to do, right? This false trust and faith in the system will be our undoing, and it is a great tragedy. As a nation we are fragmented, soothed by cheap commercialism and worthless diatribe to insulate us from the truth of our world. In many ways I think this past decade is defining wheter this great experiment will actually work, or if it is nearing it's swan song.
- ddmulholland, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Nixon resigned. He was never impeached.
- Yage2006, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11He is waiting for GOD to tell him to resign.
- mousebite, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12Yes...All of our rights under Bush have been taken away. There is no freedom. The Political Police are everywhere and they watch you under Bushes direction. Elections have been halted and censorship of everything has taken place. You can't buy or sell without permission or say anything!....and to think all those millions of immigrants don't know what they are getting into by coming here!
- dshPls, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Compared to Bush?
- acid0426, on 10/11/2007, -7/+14These days anything with the word impeach reaches the front page. I wish people would realize it will not happen. There isn't enough time, there isn't enough of a case, and Bush has his high powered friends to protect him. Let it go, and look forward to the end of the Bush era.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Cheney doesn't want the big chair... he works better in the background. While impeachment would do nothing politically, it would finalize Bush's failures. He's never achieved higher than mediocrity his entire life with his father baling him out of the tough times. No one can help him this time. He would go down as a failure for all time and for all to know. You can't rewrite that kind of history.
- Terr01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Nixon: Lied about flunkies spying/sabotaging political opposition.
Clinton: Maybe lied (realms of discussion on this point exist) about personal sexual relations.
Bush: Unconstitutional behavior up the wazoo. Not even just "criminal", or "sleazy", but unconstitutional.
Habeas corpus violations (e.g. Padilla), First amendment violations ("free speech zones"), felonious violation of federal statue (wiretaps, laws created in response to Nixon), intentional violation in executing federal law (signing statements), and a potential conspiracy for political gain that borders or crosses into the realm of treason (Plame). - mydigglogin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Actually, it's probably not. I'm saying this very cautiously though. It would put Cheney on the stage, and he probably wouldn't be able to be so secretive. He's also much better versed than Bush (who isn't), so he wouldn't be able to fight off questions with childish answers. I think it would expose a lot of things, and more people would see the light. I don't think he wants the presidency. I think he likes being exactly where he is, because he's not the focal point.
- JFetch, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Clinton lied about getting a BJ. Bush threw out the recommendation of a jury, and the sentence of a judge even though he doesn't have a legal background to make that kind of decision. As Governor of Texas, do you think he thought sentences were too harsh?
- insomniacal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Why should Bush and Cheney hand to Democrats what they're too weak and scared to take for themselves?
Nixon resigned because of the threat of impeachment, but Democrats aren't threatening Bush at all. They've become the Do Nothing party, content to let Bush continue to hang himself because 1) they think it will damage GOP chances in the next presidential election, and 2) they're afraid an impeachment will backlash on them.
In this way, the Democrat majority elected to Congress to hold the Bush administration accountable has abdicated responsibility and defied the will of the American people. This is politics at its very worst. At least Bush and Cheney ACT, without regard for poll numbers. Democrats are terrified of doing anything that could make them drop a few points.
All of you asking for Bush and Cheney to resign ... I hope you realize just how disgusted you are by the Democratic Party as well. - Terr01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Yeah, I mean, he's even done stuff like taking US citizens, having them thrown into military prison for multiple years, and keeping them without access to a lawyer or even any charges against them... going so far as to keep these untried detainees in solitary confinement for months on end!
Oh, wait, THAT ONE IS REAL. - flickboy, on 10/11/2007, -8/+13Impeach Bush AND Cheney. Nancy Pelosi for prez!
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Nixon didn't resign until the House Judiciary Committee gave a favorable vote on articles of impeachment.
For Bush to resign when impeachment isn't even being seriously considered in Congress would be ridiculous.
If Clinton had done the right thing and resigned, you do realize that Gore probably would have kept the presidency in 2000 and there would be no President Bush? Oh, the irony... - Charlotte_Web, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Nixon got us out of Vietnam.
- Dugout21, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"BUT LYING ABOUT AN AFFAIR IS JUST AS BAD AS LYING ABOUT REASONS TO GO TO WAR" Yah, that's really what some of you conservatives sound like.
- mercano, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4YouTube video of Oberman's broadcast of this essay:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU7dY1CXRPk - tropican8, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Nixon opened up diplomatic relations with China too.
- zrezvi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4 I recall a quote from Oliver Stone's movie 'Nixon' :
Nixon shuffles back alone, coming to a stop in front of a larger-than-life, full-length oil portrait of JOHN F. KENNEDY. Nixon studies the portrait, pads closer. Looks up.
NIXON (CONT'D)
When they look at you, they see what they want to be.
(then)
When they look at me, they see what
they are ... - acid0426, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Welcome to July. Everyone realized Obama has been relegated to mediocre since the emergence of Ron Paul.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Actually, he resigned before he was impeached, but impeachment was imminent.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7"You act as if Clinton's ***** doesn't stink and that Bush can't do anything right."
Do they?
Coulda sworn it's because Bush is in power and Clinton is not.
"Who's being the partisan douche?"
It's you buddy. It's you. - Lylepalooza, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Don't worry, Victoria Bitter (main beer in Oz) is becoming weak as piss too. Apparently by making it weaker they get bigger tax cuts. Beer is all we have left!
- mal1964, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3EDIT It was written and right before the vote he resigned
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Olbermann misses the point. The ultra right wing nutters in power now think Nixon was wrong to resign. They think that he should have stayed and fought. The fact that Nixon rigged the 1972 election doesn't bother them, they think stealing elections is fine as long as they get away with it. These people are criminals. Impeachment isn't enough. They need to be convicted and sent to federal prison for a long time.
- luciferin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Silence those that don't agree with you? Kick out anyone who has a differing opinion or wishes for change?
Try considering someone else's argument before you tell them to get lost or call them a "partisan douche". - jetboyterp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Nixon resigned for the same reason he didn't demand recounts of his loss to JFK...even though there was overwhelming evidence of voter fraud...he didn't want to Put the country through the turmoil of the process. He at least had respect for the office, and the nation. There will never, ever be a Bush impeachment...there's no cause. Clinton obviously had no respect for the office of President (with his pants by his ankles) and put this country through the impeachment mess. He should have resigned.
- mal1964, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3that's funny I said the same thing in another thread about three hours ago , so I do know that
- akkibaba, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I think mousebite was being sarcastic, *****. S/He's on your side.
- m2313, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Where did I say I supported what Clinton did it did stink and I think they're both equally irresponsible, incompetent and backstabbing administrations. Don't use strawman arguments. The only reason I don't point out Clinton's faults is that he is not the CURRENT issue that we are dealing with now and jcm puts Clinton into the equation as if it's relevant. You agree with me that Clinton deserved impeachement then. Clinton was impeached and we have yet to see anything done to Bush and both parties (Republican and Democrat) are at fault for not taking a stand against him earlier.
- ShadyTree, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Most Digg users have orgasms about Obama. Obama says Bush and Cheney shouldn't be impeached; that they've done nothing impeachable. So make up your minds, idiots.
- Hush, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6I wish some of you would stick this "impeach" ***** up your ***** asses. I'm ***** sick of it.
Posting "impeach bush" does ***** nothing, get off your fat asses and do something if you're so bothered by it.
The majority of us are sick of hearing you whine. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4What a lie. The yellowcake claim was known to be false, and the CIA asked the Bush administration to take it out of the SOTU address.
Which they didn't of course.
Not to mention all the cherry picking of evidence in the first place. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4"San Francisco Values"
