Democrats On Israel: Mouths Closed, Eyes Shut
marccooper.com — Let's for a moment speak the unspeakable. I can give myself license because I am a Jew. Fact is, the Democrats' policy on Israel mirrors the Republican policy on Cuba. They both derive from primarily domestic political considerations and not from any measured analysis of foreign policy nor any deliberation on our true national interests.

- aaaz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Leading Democrats attacked US Pesident George W. Bush on for losing control of the Middle East by neglecting specific regional powers and sending Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice on only a brief crisis trip.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060722/pl_afp/mideastconflictusrice_060722011714- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"attacked ...for neglecting specific powers?" But they didn't neglect others. Both parties have opinions about who is and isn't important in the Middle East. Of course Bush neglected powers that the dems think should have been accepted.
- fooplex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Losing control? Since when was Bush--or anyone for that matter--ever 'in control' of the Middle East?
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8We haven't controlled it, but we have had some huge influences on the area. Nixon once created a "Twin Pillars" policy that stated we must have two allied countries in the Middle East to hold up our foreign relations there. They were Iran and Saudi Arabia during his term, but since then we have lost Iran. Read up on it, it's very interesting, and probably explains what we're doing in Iraq (trying to restore Iran's fallen pillar with a new ally). But it's not going too well so far.
- Civil44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why on earth are we even trying to control what isnt ours?
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7People can give themselves license because they feel like it. Anything else is just an excuse.

WTF?- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -12/+18Seriously, If I could pick one political party that doesn't know jack-***** about the Middle East it would have to be the Republicans.
As a human being, I can give myself license to say that... - eyalfein, on 10/12/2007, -18/+7Maybe he should have added "self hating" before "Jew"
- Aggaman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Because if he wasn't Jewish he would be hounded by accusations of Nazism.
As it is, he will only be hounded as a self-hating Jew, which is somewhat less offensive.
It's dumb. Is a Catholic who thinks the Crusades were a bad idea a self-hating Christian?
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -12/+18Seriously, If I could pick one political party that doesn't know jack-***** about the Middle East it would have to be the Republicans.
- Bhima, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It is just me or does this not make much sense?
- Ibox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8what he is saying is that we back Israel no matter what, and this is continuing to bite us in the ass.
- brickbat, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9Anyone that thinks that bombing Lebanon is an independent Israeli action is an idiot. This is a backdoor to Syria and Iran. I predict that the next attack on US/UK/Australian soil will be an "Iranian" or "Syrian" "State Sponsored Terrorist" paid for and trained by the CIA.
- eyalfein, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3Israel does not make a move without US approval.
Condy's trip looks like a foreign affairs attempt to influence Israel, but the whole plan is already set, she's just makes sure everything is working as planned.
- eyalfein, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3Israel does not make a move without US approval.
- Shinta, on 10/12/2007, -13/+11Democrats shut mouth? Like that will ever happen.
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19It's nice to know, that, in America, one has to be part of a group before one can speak openly about a topic concerning that group.
- bennypowers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8License because he's a Jew? So I can publicly weigh in on Britain's foreign policy, with clout, because I'm Canadian?
- christianboutin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, as long as the Queen is our commander in chief, and as long as we pay for crown-related infrastructure and personnel, sure we can! Actually, we should. (that's a bit off-topic, sorry)
- BigMucho, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6What the Democrats really need is someone who will speak their mind regardless of the political consequences.... like say... Howard Dean!
wait.... - shutdown, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Isreal bombs ***** out of Lebanon - Lebanon bombs ***** out of Israel. The whole tit for tat nonsense is escalating out of all proportion and is dragging the whole region into a festering, screaming pit of cordite smelling, explosive flaming hell...
And you want to spin it as a pansy ass Republican verses Democrat issue. For ***** sake, get a perspective and stop reducing everything to such ridiculous, simplistic, childish, playground games.- TigerSun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I'm sorry you're confused. Israel bombs ***** out of Hizbollah in Lebanon. Hizbollah in Lebanon bombs ***** out of Israel.
So far, Lebanon didn't do squat. - bugmeister, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7TigerSun is damn right: "So far, Lebanon didn't do squat."
Exactly. They did not do anything to stop Hizbollah from spreading along their borders, arming themselves and attacking Israel.
Wake up. - piznut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3 For lebanon to even try to avoid direct responsibility is bs. If I let someone into my house and they start shooting my neighbors through my bedroom window...do you think the cops are going to hold me harmless? I would be an accessory...as Lebanon is.
- DangerStevens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a lot tougher to suppress local militias when you're a government without a lot of popular power.

The biggest Jew hater is, in itself, a Jew. Not saying you are, just saying how empty that statement is. - burntheliberals, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I think it's funny that people attack Lebanaon for not doing anything to stop Hezbollah, but how long was Israel in Lebanon and unable to do anything about Hezbollah? Many more years than Lebanon's government has been in place.
People support Israel no matter what, because they think their God, will like smite them, if they don't. Period.- starmanjones, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1exactly. the other day i said something critical of israel and was jumped as having prejudice against jews. no... i'm not. i'm critical of israel.
people in the U.S. support israel for largely religious reasons. which israel has parlayed into a cozy way to get good weapons. we give them good weapons to be our surrogate in the middle east.
israel claims to be a democracy. but the state was founded on jewishness... of european origin. they came from europe to the middle east based on bible stories and the fact nazis terrorized them. so they in turn went to the middle east and terrorized the locals there.
now there are a couple generations of israeli that were born and raised there and rightfully call it home. but the people who got booted are still pissed and they are terrorizing the israelis. i think its a hopeless ***** mess and one more example of why religion and politics suck. why america, religion and politics is dangerous.
- starmanjones, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1exactly. the other day i said something critical of israel and was jumped as having prejudice against jews. no... i'm not. i'm critical of israel.
- naden, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4STOP DIGGING THIS CRAP. It is biaised flamebait and not the sort of thing that should be shown on here, Digg serves better. And frankly I don't believe he deserves the advertising money.
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4If just one word in this title were replaced, this story would be Dugg to the front page in no time flat.
- dracheflieger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Your title says it all. Where are all the left leaning posts from weanies that always have an opinion on how to run everyone's life but their own?
- ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"I can give myself license because I am a Jew."
I can't say squat because I am an Arab and a Muslim. Anything I say can and will be held against me in the court of America, even if it is taken out of context.- DangerStevens, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1He's making the point that, as a Jew, he has some leverage to criticize Israel. Likewise, you've got leverage to criticize actions by Arabs and Islamics without being considered an American Nazi.
- Popperian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I'm an American and I used to be on the fence about this whole Israel/Palestine and Israel/Lebanon thing, but I've definitely moved solidly into the "Anti-Israel" camp.
The principle basis is the taxes. We pay something like $8 billion/year to Israel and they spend it bombing and killing people. I don't want to pay for this anymore.
We created Israel after World War II. Truman wrote in his memoirs that the Jews all over Europe were being abused by people, including American soldiers. So he basically rounded them all up and plopped them on top of Palestine and gave them some guns to defend themselves. That's how "Israel" came to exist as it is today.
The fact of the matter is that it hasn't worked out. It's incredibly expensive to keep supporting Israel and it's incredibly geopolitically destabilizing.
My view is that we should create a $20 Billion fund to help Israelis resettle where ever they want. If they want to stay in Israel, fine ... but we need to cut their military funding and the tax money we give them. It simply isn't working.
In terms of a resettlement fund of $20B, after we cut the money we give them, we will be netting +$8 billion in annual savings after the fact which only God knows our budget needs, and the M.E. crisis will now be over.
Israel has had it's shot as a state, and failed - and I personally don't way to pay for them to be killing anyone anymore. We already have too many taxes we have to pay to be throwing money away on that idiocy.- ethics, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28 Billion?
Wow, where did you get those figures, from out of you ass?
Look up the numbers, we give about the same to Egypt, and one or two years more to Ukraine. - CJWright, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1THINK. White European Jews did not just drop into land and take it over (pick any history books to ties to the region ee the long historical tinot rewritten with propaganda by Arab countries like say the Hebrew Bible or so called "Old Testament"). Pick one - just one - and try to overcome your incredible ignorance so you don't write as if you wear a nametag that says "I fall for all the anti-Israeli propaganda paid for by oil money!"

- gab00n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Political baiting should not be allowed and anyone who tries to target and single out one group should be banned from digg.
- DCMacHead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it really surprise anyone that the Democrats are gutless on a national security issue?
- piznut, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Let's see...Republicans control three branches of government and NOTHING is being done.
In fact when I do hear someone speaking about this issue in an objective manner, its usually a progressive and not a fire and brimstone rapture fundamentalist republican. - kingygk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Israel has the right to defend herself. Why Because Israel pulled out of Gaza in the hopes of peace. They did not get Peace. They complied with the UN. Now it is Hezbollah's turn. They need to comply with UN resolution 1559 and disarm and disband. Hezbollah can also end this right now by releasing the Israeli soldiers. That is what this war is about. Freeing the Israeli soldiers. Can we all Get along!! Hezbollah Stop the insanity !!!!
- hobophobe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2We could use some viable third-party choices in the USA.
- livestradamus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1We have it. But the 3rd party doesn't get its word out there (see funding for propoganda pumping machine of the elephants and donkeys).
Shoot, the 3rd party isn't allowed at presidential debates.
2006 & on, vote green party

- kingygk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bill Clinton's Bilateral negotiations are the reason why we have this conflict now. They are also the reason why North Korea has nukes. Thank you Bill. Your legacy will be the destruction of the free world.
- DannoJyD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where is the outrage from the American liberals? Maybe they just don't care unless it is all the Presidents fault.
I have heard plenty comming from the liberal politicians but it adds up to blaming Bush. It would be nice to hear an actual plan come from those blatherskytes for a change.
