But, soon after, the parents of kids who were not selected whined about it, and finally, my entire class was in the "gifted and talented program"

    Seriously, what kind of farm crop would we have if we fertilized the worst seed and underfertilized the best seed?
    A failing crop, that's what we'd have.
    Our civilization is going to be in big trouble if we persist in putting our educational resources into the children who demonstrate the least chance of inventing new medicines, new energy technologies, new art. And we put the resources into the children who show the LEAST chance of making those contributions.
