- hiphoc, on 10/10/2007, -9/+43Let me guess the excuse for not testifying will be. Executive privilege, but we are at war, sign a PDD or EO saying he doesn't have to testify, just ignore the whole thing, have his lawyer file injunctions delaying the process till he is out of office and living in Dubai or Argentina, or maybe MARTIAL LAW.
How will the paper servers get past the SS, Secret Service? - d2002, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30It is about damn time for some accountability.
- DirtySnachez, on 10/10/2007, -6/+23BREAKING! : Rather found dead in accidental plane crash. No suspiscous interference involved ! More on FOX at 12.
- Archer007, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20Sorry, dismissed under the State Secrets clause.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13not so fast, Bush is above the law and does whatever he wants. only liberal terrorists abide by the US constitution or judicial system.
- keyboardduder, on 10/10/2007, -9/+20I hope they push the papers in Dubya's face and show him beyond a reasonable doubt that he was not there.Go Dan!!!
- kingkilr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Nixon and Clinton both demonstrated that the president isn't immune to subpoena.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -10/+20Hearsay, not even a credible rumor. Regardless I hope it calls more attention to the shameful swiftboating of Dan Rather for the crime of criticizing the President during a time of war.
- ZenMojo, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13This'll be interesting. The Bushes won't testify, and understandably won't, but the fact is it'll bring up the real issue, which is not whether or not the papers were forged (nobody ***** knows!), but the facts that are incontestable...Bush bailed on his National Guard duty, gave no excuse, and ignored repeated cries from his supervisors that he needed to get his ass back to base -- all of this is TRUE.
- sharpfork, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13If this lawsuit goes forward, it will shed light on how much BS the "Liberal Media" argument actually is. CBS bent over for the GOP and Rather's was the head that rolled when the right wing manufactured outrage hit. I'm sure there will be some crap ass argument for why the Bush 41 and 43 can't testify. Still, it will be fun to watch someone try to prove that Bush fulfilled his required military service in a court. As much as the right wingers would like to think this has all been settled, it has not.
- Comatose51, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5If the court issues the orders, I don't see how Bush can refuse to since he is still an American citizen and must abide by the laws of this country, which he has sworn to uphold. As much as some people refuse to believe it, Bush is not above the law.
- tuxracer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6That's pre-9/11 thinking
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Quick Question: In a civil suit filed by Rather against CBS, what legally compels the Bush's to testify?
- mozzer, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10Go Rather!
- twinklyJesus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Rather got caught red-handed. Someone handed him a phony set of documents, and he couldn't wait to broadcast it. He broadcast it without even verifying it. It was a reflection of his true agenda and his journalistic ethics. He WANTED it to be true. He wanted to "swift-boat" Bush, and it backfired on him.
His lawsuit is the last desperate act of a totally bitter, angry and insane *****. - NSResponder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Bush's military record is not the issue, and it hasn't been since the very day that Rather went with a report based on faked documents. If you really hate Bush, then you should be furious with Rather.
-jcr - weebit, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9I would be asking for Bush's military records to prove one way or the other. I would not accept anything stamped with a seal other than the military's. Find those records, and if they can't find them, then Dan Rather is right in his findings and the Bush family is hiding the fact.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Nothing.
If they testify, he wins some credibility back. If they refuse, the suspicion, coupled with the "I hate Bush" conspiracy moonbats will lend him some of his credibility back. It's a win-win situation for him in that respect. He doesn't stand a chance in hell of winning, though. No matter who didn't check the facts before he got the story, HE read it on TV without doing any research. He was so convinced by his own bias it was true, he ran it. He's responsible.
True or false, he should never have run a story as explosive as that without first checking it out. - NSResponder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"Let me guess the excuse for not testifying will be."
He needs no excuse, because the facts of the case don't involve him. Rather ***** up, CBS eased him out, and Dan threw a fit over the loss of the reputation that he suffered. It's his own fault, and CBS actually backed him much more than they should have. The entire new department at CBS, once the greatest in the USA, is in a shambles now.
-jcr - MellerTime, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5That was back then... Remember, the Constitution is a living document, it's not a suicide pact.
- Nudar, on 10/10/2007, -8/+11He has to be kidding if he thinks he can force the Bushies to testify in his suit against CBS.
- NSResponder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3CBS tried to save Rather's reputation (as well as their own), but the fact is that Dan went on the air with forgeries, pretended they were genuine, and tried to bluff his way out of it when the forgery was plain to anyone with a functioning pair of eyes.
For Rather to sue them is the most disgusting example of ingratitude I can imagine.
-jcr - NSResponder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Kind of went off on a tangent there, sunshine. Rather is suing CBS for his own *****-up. He should have confirmed the authenticity of those documents before he went on the air with them, or at least quit pretending that they were genuine once it was obvious just what incompent forgeries they were.
-jcr - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Let's pay our respects to Dan, who will be found in the locked trunk of a burning car with two bullets in his back, his hands duct-taped, and of course a suicide note. Fox News: "Rather kills self, whiny liberal jerk!" Things can happen to people who annoy the Bushes. Unlike the loyalists who are always rewarded by them.
- Waiting2awake, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4 You use the strangest words... a-count-ability?? No way Bush Jr could pass that..
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Typical dimwit liberal. Bush signed the standard Form 180 to release all his military records, as of 14 February 2004.
Kerry STILL has not done so, probably because he had a dishonorable discharge that was later rescinded by Jimmy Carter in 1978. Kerry signed a limited Form 180 that authorized only a few friendly left-wing reporters to see his entire record.
And if they can't find them, then Dan Rather's allegations must therefore be assumed to be true? What a crock of *****. Take a logic class, boy. - Mitchl, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6Doubtful that either would see the inside of the court. Even if they did, not likely that it would extend beyond, "Did you contact CBS to get Dan fired". As much as it would be nice to see, the issue of whether W skipped out on some time in the air national guard isn't the issue. Dan and Mapes used questionable reporting and fact checking in relation to the document which tainted the whole story. It is going to be pretty tough for Dan to go against the bi-partisan, independant inventigation that CBS had done. That is be a pretty huge defense for CBS.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Man, this makes the Democraps look like total pussies.
You know its really a travesty that FOX NEWS would spend 5000 hours on "forged memos" on a fact we already knew. That Bush got special treatment in the guard.
But when the Feds are forced to release video showing something much smaller than a large commercial airliner smashing into the Pentagon on 9/11, not a peep?! - bjornski, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Bush will never, EVER testify under oath.
Only behind closed doors, with no notes taken, and Dick Cheney holding his hand and telling him what to say. - NSResponder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3What papers? The forged papers that ended Rather's career?
-jcr - Bdog2g2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I smell Executive Privilege.
- FyberOptic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3They still haven't been proven false. And again, nor was all the other info, only the Killian documents were questioned. Those particular documents couldn't be proven true after people oddly changed their stories as to their validity (probably threatened), so it was twisted by neocons to make it sound like that naturally meant they were fake. There has been zero proof of such.
Maybe you'd care to share why so much of Bush's military records have ended up missing and/or inconsistant, and why the rest is kept under lock and key? McCain sure didn't care to release his records to the public when he ran in 2000. And everyone attacked Kerry and tried to make up bs about his service. But how come Bush keeping his a secret isn't a big indication to everyone that there's something wrong there? - bufmike, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I think he should get Bill Gates to testify that MS Word really did exist since the 60's...
- declawedpaw, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Fake...but true!
- FyberOptic, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4She said "all the information here is correct". And no, none of the documents were proven false, especially since only the Killian ones were the ones brought into question. What about all the other evidence in the report?
Yeah, learn to do some research before you try to spread more of this BS. - Jamihabs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3All of the documents were proven false. Dan even interviewed the secretary who would have typed these documents, if they were real. She said she didn't. I suspect you suffer from BDS.
- m0n0kr0m3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2what about the disgruntled ex general fact? It's a factor I hope to see come into play XD
- phatt-matt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1First there were imaginary documents and now there are imaginary court cases. Go Dan!
- FyberOptic, on 10/10/2007, -6/+7People like you that have zero knowledge of events are who is ruining this country. I'm sure you wholeheartedly support Bush and his regime, too. Open your eyes and learn to listen and read for yourself instead of waiting for the GOP to force feed you what you want to hear. None of the documents were proven false, and there was other evidence in the original 60 Minutes report which was never refuted either way. But the neocons drew so much attention to the fact that the Killian documents couldn't be 100% proven true that they pulled the wool over the eyes of people like you into forgetting what was going on. All of Dan's other facts were true nonetheless, and I hope one day your hero Bush will finally be held accountable for all his wrongdoings.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So questioning the authenticity of obvious forgeries is now "swiftboating?" You've got some brass claiming dirty tricks and mudslinging, as that exactly describes what Rather and CBS did.
- LastVisibleDog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Right.....somebody has been smoking a bit too much of the wild wood weed
- weebit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The best part is if Bush 41 and 43 lie in Court they purger themselves and just like Clinton hopefully charges will be filled against them. This will be the main reason why they will not testify. They don't want to purger themselves. So I will be looking for all the reasons on why they wont be taking the stand. That will tell us the most.
- Mav848, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"May call as witnesses?" Really? The furthest he said in the interview was essentially 'No comment.' This isn't news worthy. Why even publish it?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"CBS actually backed him much more than they should have."
They sure did. What a *****-up, and what brazen ingratitude on the part of Dan Rather. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Laughable, incompetent forgeries. Unbelievable that people still have faith in the old Rather scoundrel.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"Swiftboating" == "Telling an unpleasant truth about a Democrat."
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Burden of proof is on DAN RATHER, YOU ***** MORON. THEY ARE LUDICROUS FORGERIES UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.
- tuxracer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1null
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"None of the documents were proven false"
Anybody who says this is a ***** idiot. The burden of proof lies with Dan Rather and CBS.
Laughable, incompetent, partisan forgeries until proven otherwise, which anyone with a gram of common sense knows will never happen. -
