- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -9/+34I'm going to pre-empt some apologist talking points here.
1)Clinton used his pardon questionably - True, but irrelevant. Libby broke the law regardless of what Clinton did.
2)Clinton was convicted of the same thing Libby was, and Clinton didn't do time - Actually, Clinton didn't do time because he was aquitted, unlike Libby.
3) There was no underlying crime, Plame wasn't covert - Actually, according to the CIA, Plame was covert until her cover was blown.
4) Armitage was the source of the leak - Armitage was one of TWO sources, the second of which was the mystery man Libby lied under oath to protect, presumably with the understanding that he would be pardoned.
5) Nobody has been charged with leaking Plame's name - Could that have something to do with Mr. Libby's "Obstruction of Justice" charge? He lied under oath so that his superiors couldn't be charged. - onelikeaztek, on 10/11/2007, -9/+31Why is it that Keith Olbermann, Lou Dobbs and John Stewart are the only three that I can trust to report the news these days?
- vincew, on 10/11/2007, -10/+30Corrupt to the core indeed. If only there were some way to convert a digg into a vote to impeach.. Both the POTUS and VPOTUS have got to go. 570 days is too long to wait for this to be over.
- one2gamble, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13Libby covered up evidence that would have allowed the prosecution of those traitors whom should be hung in the middle of DC as an example.
- nsummy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+15@burchie2 I looked at that list and it looks like a lot of drug offenders. Also, Clinton pardoned those people because he thought they had served their time and learned their lesson. Bush did it because it was one of his buddies.
- darkzealot89, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10Because we live in a sad time for American News... Where big media houses like FOX are spewing lies left and right and no one does anything about it.
- MWeather, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7It's also big news on Fark and Redit. When multiple social news sites find something important, I think that's a good indication that the public (which chooses front page stories) thinks it's important.

D A M M I T - swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6*****, are you trying to say that Plame's name was leaked accidentally? And that Scooter accidentally obstructed justice to protect his superiors?
- grendelboogie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Further, both Reagan and LBJ were very fond of the pardon as well. Again, though, mainly for people who had already served time.
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Thanks for reminding me of the "Berger did it" line, which is a subset of the "Clinton did it" argument. Berger never stole anything from the national archives. He "stole" handwritten notes that he had taken while studying documents, which is against procedure but hardly basis to make a federal case out of.
I'll win the "popularity contest" because the majority of digg users can see through your *****. - MWeather, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Armitage should be charged. The fact that he wasn't doesn't excuse Libby.
- roseap, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yeah, I heard him on NPR this morning. Sounds like he said most of the same things here as well. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=11689369

- FearlessFreep, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5This isn't a social site, it's a self-selecting group of mutual back-patters
When you lose your girlfriend and three guys from digg take you out to a strip club for beers to help you get over her, then it's a social site. - novaculus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4@ orangedog-
You state:
"And before the "..but...but...clinton pardoned marc rich!" crowd starts in, let's remember who rich's attorney was from 1985 to the year slick pardoned him."
Indeed, it was none other than Libby. But shall we dig a tiny bit deeper? Who was attempting to prosecute Rich, and got his ass handed to him by counsel's most able defense of his client? Why, it was none other than Fitznifong!!
Can you spell "grudge"? I knew that you could!
The same Fitznifong who knew early on in his investigation that the "leaker" was Armitage, not Libby, and that there was NO CRIME committed, and NO CRIME to conceal, and NO ATTEMPT to conceal what didn't happen. For his own reasons Fitznifong chose to pursue the perjury trap strategy. Libby made the classic error of the innocent, repeatedly appearing voluntarily before the grand jury in the belief he was at no risk because he had done no wrong and had nothing to conceal. - MWeather, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6"a bunch of pre-adolescent douche bags"
Not everyone on Digg is like you. - TicoTico, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5His wife's career was destroyed because this administration wanted to punished him.
This administration is beyond corruption. - swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5and that bush "accidentally" gave Scooter a "get out of jail, free" pass in exchange for his silence?
- Brucified, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Have you ever served this country? I have. And it's Mr. ***** to you.
- texaspeaks, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6What an abuse of power. Next thing you know, elections will be canceled.
- Brucified, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2We'll have an election in 2008 just like we do every four years and Cuba will not.
- orangedog, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4"George Bush is trying to protect this man from a witch hunt that was "corrupt to the core"."
Yes, the anti-GOP "witch hunt..." which was carried out by a GOP prosecutor, a GOP judge and a GOP appeals court.
It's that steady drumbeat of hypocrisy like yours that drove me away from the GOP. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You had me worried there for a moment, until I say the /sarcasm.
- Gaki, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3You, sir, are a cheeseball. Liberals are impotent in this regard because the jackasses we elected primarly to impeach Bush and his cronies systematically refuse to do so. Or, more accurately, the movers and shakers in the Democrats refuse to do so. There are plenty of minor lights who are working to impeach Bush et al. on principle. Until the Democratic leadership get past their own greed, nothing will happen. Mocking that fact makes you not only mean-spirited, but openly contemptuous of due process, i.e. that you revel that the process has been pre-empted by greedy sacks of ***** who put their own re-election chances ahead of impeachment because it only matters that YOUR guys win. Sometimes the issue is beyond party lines and this is one of those times. Flip Republican for Democrat ... would you still be laughing? I doubt it.
- Belayman, on 10/11/2007, -6/+8The OP is wrong - Plame was not the victim of Libby's crimes. Libby did not out Plame as a CIA agent - Armitage did. Libby was convicted of purgery.
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Armitage was investigated, the prosecuter found no evidence that Armitage knew of Plame's covert CIA status when he talked to Novak and Woodward. On the other hand, the secondary source that Scooter lied to protect (most likely Rove), knew, and intentionally disclosed the fact to multiple sources. But it seems as if neither he nor Libby will see justice.
- fleischner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3You know what they call what you're doing? It's called "lying."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Berger - savitr, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6What an abuse of power. Next thing you know, elections will be stolen.
Ooops... already happened. Twice, too.
But since we do, basically, nothing about all of this, we are the ones in charge. We are allowing this stuff. What has any of us actually done, who cares about this? It will have to be more than complaining in Digg comments. - TicoTico, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7This issue is clear if with list the facts from 2002 till now
1- Bush said Saddam bought Niger uranium in order to make nuclear weapons -- the justification he needed in order to invade Iraq
2- Meanwhile he sent Wilson to Niger in order to investigate a bring evidence
3- Wilson found that everything was BS and he made that public in many interviews
4- Bush invaded Iraq anyway
5- His wife name and status was leaked to the press forcing her to abandon all her missions and putting her life in risk
6- The DoJ requested a federal investigation, knowingly leaking the identity of a covert agent is a criminal violation of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act (IIPA), and the CIA is required by law to report any such possible criminal violations
...
99- Lewis "scapegoat" Libby commutation of prison sentence by Bush
Valerie Plame identity was leaked to the press to punish Wilson for not supporting the Iraq invasion. A scapegoat got all the blame and then was pardoned by Bush
Wilson was punished, Iraq was invaded and for all their illegality they paid $250,000
More information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plame_affair - swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Why stop at condoning obstruction of justice? Bush should totally pardon murderers who shot an unarmed man in the back, too. Oh sorry, did I say "man?" I meant LEPEROUS IMMIGRANT SCUM.
/sarcasm, dammit - Buddhaismybuddy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6Im glad this is getting some mainstream attention, maybe people will actually DO SOMETHING!
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Clinton never pardoned Berger, so I fail to see the relevence. Also, Berger "stole" COPIES of confidential material, you lying sack.
- Zarchon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Obviously the left has a much better future in plan for America and even though the people are stupid, they aren't so stupid as to have reelected Bush twice. This means that those nasty Republicans found a way to steal elections. I mean it is obvious. Look, the Democrats would have won both houses in the last election if it weren't for the Republicans stealing elections. I doubt we will ever have a Democrat controlled congress again, nor do I think the Republicans will ever let a Democrat become president. I mean they were able to steal those last two presidential elections without the crooked voting machines they are getting in place. They are smart, errr, dumb, err, what is it they are supposed to be? Come on Digg, help me out.
/sarcasm
Neither election was stolen. It's just losers making excuses for why they lost. - novaculus, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5
A gigantic load of absolute *****. - skyscape, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Well, 300 who served and didnt serve time, versus one who didn't
You all bunch of hypocrite diggers. No wonder real america doesnt take you seriously - orangedog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Can you spell "grudge"?"
Gee, two GOP lawyers went up against each other in court on a previous occasion. BFD.
"The same Fitznifong who knew early on in his investigation that the "leaker" was Armitage, not Libby"
Which might have something to do with scooter not being indicted for being the "leaker." He was indicted, tried, convicted and sentenced for perjury and obstruction of justice.
"and that there was NO CRIME committed"
Tell that to the judge, the jury and the appeals court. I'll take their word over someone desperately trying to shill for some political elites.
"Libby made the classic error of the innocent, repeatedly appearing voluntarily before the grand jury in the belief he was at no risk because he had done no wrong and had nothing to conceal."
Yes, poor, poor wet behind the ears scooter libby...the high powered DC lawyer who after decades of practicing law, representing the rich and powerful and ascending to the position of chief of staff to the vice president of the united states didn't realize that it's against the law to lie to a grand jury and obstruct a federal investigation.
Wipe that brown stuff off your nose...the people you are defending already hold you in the lowest of contempt. The joke's on you. - fleischner, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Boy, you must REALLY hate Sandy Berger then, who stole, destroyed, and intentionally lied about confidential material for the National Archives.
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3If that were true, Bush would have granted him clemency already, am i rite?
- 7goats, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Bush may still decide to grant FULL pardon [See WashPost com]. He only commuted sentence for now. This is an embarrassment to us all: Red or Blue. Impeach now or let's all decide to have a dictator. I mean, what's the difference? I'd rather be accurate about the world in which we live. We run all over the globe telling other countries what is right and what is wrong. I think we as a country have lost that moral authority. How can we continue to bad mouth Castro?
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Basically what you are saying is A) Plame reccommended Wilson for the Niger Fact-checking expedition. B) The Niger Documents were not forged and C)Plame was not covert when her name was leaked.
Let me start by saying none of this excuses Libby from his conviction of perjury and obstruction of justice. If he hadn't made a deal with Bush, he would be in jail. Period. Anyway,
A) So what if Plame reccommended Wilson? How is that even remotely relevant?
B)French intelligence oversees Niger's nuke program. French intelligence called the documents a blatant, amateurish forgery. Colin Powell refused to use the Niger claim in his speech to the UN.
C) According to the director of the CIA, Plame was indeed a covert agent. - EarlOfLade, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3What would you have said if Libby revealed Ms. Plames undercover status to a russian?
I bet the tone would have been different then, huh? - haydesigner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Bury someone. Then the block button appears.
- vonnegut, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Silly dope, your blind support for your flawed ideology is interfering with your reading comprehension. I never condoned obstruction of justice. For example, I totally supported Clinton's $90K fine for obstructing justice. I just feel that the border agents who shot a drug smuggler in his butt during a scuffle should not be in jail for doing their job. You and I weren't there at the incident and so I personally would rather take sides with our brave border guards who have to deal with violent drug smugglers every day.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4"When you lose your girlfriend and three guys from digg take you out to a strip club for beers to help you get over her, then it's a social site."
I wasn't going to comment on this story, mainly due to the fact that it is the same, tired, re-hashed, not support by evidence ***** that infests so much of digg lately, but that is a great comment. - CorpT, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3How can that be? Liberals always think for themselves and hate authority figures because they are conformists. That's why they hate Limbaugh and O'Reily. Are you saying that Olbermann and Stewart are just opposite sides of the same coin?
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3copy pasted from the page you linked to: After a long investigation, the lead prosecutor Noel Hillman, chief of the Justice Department's Public Integrity Section, stated that Berger ONLY REMOVED CLASSIFIED COPIES of data stored on hard drives stored in the National Archives, and that NO ORIGINAL MATERIAL was destroyed.[21] His and the FBI's opinion of the case initially led The Wall Street Journal to editorialize against the allegations
- CorpT, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Ooooh, burn.
- Brucified, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2No "basically" I am cutting and pasting what the Senate Select Committee On Intelligence, “Report On The U.S. Intelligence Community’s Prewar Assessments On Iraq,” said.
A) Cheney did not send Wilson to Niger as he has claimed.
B) “The Former Ambassador Said That He May Have ‘Misspoken’ To The Reporter When He Said He Concluded The Documents Were ‘Forged.’”
C) Then, as Fitznifong knew before the trial even started, Richard Armitage (Colin Powell's Deputy), David Corn and Joe Wilson should go to jail. -
