- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -44/+576Fox News attempting a comedy? I was under the impression that Fox News already WAS a comedy..
- Snokage, on 10/12/2007, -10/+299i enjoyed hearing the laughter that was dubbed in...
- gchucky, on 10/12/2007, -14/+281They had to use canned laughter with a studio audience. What a train wreck.
- Barman, on 10/12/2007, -26/+222Oh man that was painful to watch. I laughed at first, but it went downhill faster than any show I have ever seen.
- benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -21/+204republicans don't laugh
- Kbennett, on 10/12/2007, -17/+191That was awful. The Daily Show's wise cracks about Obama have been far, far funnier.
- chicoer2001, on 10/12/2007, -8/+155The thng about the Daily Show is that they make fun of the left. John Kerry, CNN etc.. Will Fox News make fun of itself and Bush?
- greatblackowl, on 10/12/2007, -21/+151BO? Funny? Uh...
That's as bad as the "Gassy" quote, which also sucks. It's like they're catering to the half frozen minds of juvenile monkeys. - GoneSouth, on 10/12/2007, -11/+140Isn't "conservative comedy" a little like "christian porn" ?
- miamilaw, on 10/12/2007, -18/+145LOL! that was pretty bad. They did try though. Perhaps the funniest thing about the show is that they use a freakin' laugh machine! Now THAT'S funny!
- rajulkabir, on 10/12/2007, -22/+146"republicans don't laugh"
Sure they do. Just push a small child down in the mud in front of a crowd. Follow the mirthful laughter and you've found your Republicans. - The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -10/+131The humor on The Daily Show is more cleverly focused on poking fun of the media and the hypocrisies of politics. This clip shows the writers struggling even for cheap shots about someone's unfortunate initials.]
Now that I think about it, the funniest material on The Daily Show is centered at poking fun of Fox News excerpts. Fox won't likely make fun of itself. - Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+110CNN isn't left or right. It's sensationalist tripe, because that's what makes money.
- Kbennett, on 10/12/2007, -6/+105Rules for the Half-hour News Hour Drinking Game:
Every time they tell a joke that isn't funny, take a swig. Every time it is obvious they're reading the teleprompter, take a swig. Every time a joke seems forced, take a swig. Every time they crack a joke (funny or not) at a conservative news outlet, congressman, or other personality, do a boilermaker/car bomb. Every time they're funny, finish your beer.
Those rules will make the show tolerable, or put you out so fast you won't need to watch the whole thing. - mrharvey518, on 10/12/2007, -9/+95Exactly, once I realized that it was a laugh track playing I shut it off. At least mic the crowd so it seems like more laughter. I can't deal with canned laughs anymore.
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -17/+97"It's like they're catering to the half frozen minds of juvenile monkeys."
they are - loki440, on 10/12/2007, -5/+78Exactly. The Daily Show has been covering the Democratic nomination process so far in a segment called "The ***** to the White House". Not exactly a ringing liberal endorsement.
The only reason Republicans are taking the brunt of abuse these days is because they're in power. They're also really easy to make fun of. Believe me if Hillary gets elected she'll get ripped on just as much by the Daily Show. - rajulkabir, on 10/12/2007, -5/+74Well, you go far enough to the left, you'll find the same thing. Your typical vegan wymyn animal-rights activitist can't take a joke either. What it does go to show, though, is that the Republicans are on the average farther to the right of center than the Democrats are to the left, since far more Democrats manage to laugh and be funny, hence they aren't way off-the-scale dogmatic.
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+72The best part of the laugh track: The obviously middle aged guy who's voice was louder than everyone elses. Not only was he louder, but he was the only one that was talking. "hahahahahah, yeah, ain't that the truth!"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+78Conservative humor:
Be as mean as possible about someone on a personal level. Make fun of someone's appearance, personality, or opinions in as viscious a way as possible.
Liberal humor:
Point out facts and provide direct quotes. The punchline consists of looking at the camera with a "What-the-*****" expression.
Let's see, which one is more appealing, intelligent, thought-provoking and, most importantly, the funniest? - Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -11/+78The "leftist" bent they decry has got to be the biggest delusion they labor under. They ripped into the Democratic presidential candidates this week and it was hilarious.
I guess they didn't understand that if they're in power, they become the target of satire. Must be interesting to be that thick. - diggsIt, on 10/12/2007, -11/+77They could always do their show in front of a live military audience, like the when the President speaks.
- Tanner, on 10/12/2007, -5/+66That incessant laugh track reminds me of an 80s sitcom.
- j1337, on 10/12/2007, -11/+71Terrible, but I wouldn't be surprised if it became popular. Republicans who hate the Daily Show for its "leftist" views will love this ideologically friendly rip-off.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -7/+66Beyond unwitting self-parody? Probably not.
- mutatron, on 10/12/2007, -8/+65Stephen Colbert could probably do a better parody of liberals than anyone on Fox.
- greatblackowl, on 10/12/2007, -12/+67I'm sorry, I suppose my comment should have read:
"Whereas democrats have their political comedians, republicans have foaming-at-the-mouth psychotics." - benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -7/+61that was so bad I actually miss Dennis Miller
- KingOneEye, on 10/12/2007, -10/+61This show is especially pitiful when you consider this is supposed to rival Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
Also, I agree with the above comments that TDS and TCR make fun of both Republicans AND Democrats, not just the partisan hackery of Faux, I mean Fox, News - bothra, on 10/12/2007, -7/+57The genius of the daily show is when they make fun of the media. That's what the show is all about, not propaganda to either side, left or right. It hurts to see people attacking TDS for being leftist or biased. They're just being SANE.
IN-sanity is the right trying to rip off TDS and falling far, far, short.... YET still airing the tripe. I gave up on TV news around 10 years ago, haven't looked back since. And you know what, I'm glad I did. - Kazbaeden, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54Man, I hope this makes it on to the Daily Show/Colbert Report. I want to see what Stewart has to say.
- TerrorByte64, on 10/12/2007, -7/+56I can't wait for their version of "This week in God"
- trimpton, on 10/12/2007, -6/+53CNN is left? Now thats funny. You should try writing for their show.
- trimpton, on 10/12/2007, -5/+51It must be hard to write a comedy show without any sense of sarcasm or irony.
- CraigB12, on 10/12/2007, -41/+86This would actually be a good idea if the material were better and the hosts personality didn't suck ass.
- TerrorByte64, on 10/12/2007, -11/+54Yeah I think conservatives' lack of humor stems from holding values so sacred that they can't be made fun of, and that kind of goes against the definition of comedy.
- miatch, on 10/12/2007, -9/+51right, they mention Obama's coke, then compare him to Marion Barry. No racism there at all. Because it's not like they could have compared him to Bush or anything... oh, wait
- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -5/+47@corporate70
Ann Coulter doesn't really equate to Michael Moore, Howard Dean or Al Franken (it is Franken not Franklen). Ann Coulter is full of nothing but outlandish hate speech for the purpose of selling books, anyone who tries to claim that either of the above 3 do the same have not listened to them. Yes, they may say critical things of the policy of the far right, but Ann says hateful things just to hate like:
[QUOTES]
-"There are a lot of bad Republicans; there are no good Democrats."
Or
-"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times building."
How about...
-"If Chicago had been hit, I assure you New Yorkers would not have cared. What was stunning when New York was hit was how the rest
if America rushed to New York's defense. New Yorkers would have been like, 'It's tough for them; now let's go back to our Calvin Klein
fashion shows.'"
[/QUOTES]
See the difference?
As far as your last statement of "That is what we republicans call, lame. Try an intellectual comment for once."
Sounds a bit elitist, but wait isn't it the right who calls the left elitist? - tateswayz91, on 10/12/2007, -5/+47There's no way this could've been an actual show.
- Kazbaeden, on 10/12/2007, -5/+46Exactly. What do you think the daily show did while Clinton was in office? Same thing they're doing now.
- monkeyrun, on 10/12/2007, -6/+44It felt so .... cheap.
It's not even a knock of of "The Daily show" or "Colbert Report", it's worse than SNL's "Weekend update". - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40It's funny, because I work on a news magazine that does christian and jewish influenced newstopics. My show's host came up to me one day and told me that God had told her I needed to be warned about my perversions.
I told her that God's more than welcome to come visit me personally if he has any issues with how I live my private life. I told her God's just being nosy and rude to talk to her about my private life.
See if I vouch for God and keep his secrets the next time he tells me about his private life... Sheesh. - rippyd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42Those retards at Fox just don't get it. Jon Stewart isn't funny because he does political humor. He's funny because he's funny and he happens to be doing political humor. Do they not get the Stewart ripped Clinton just as much as he does Bush? The show appears to be devised just to take shots at the left, which I suppose is similar to the agenda of Fox News. What a bunch of wankers.
- jmreid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40it sounds like Mad TV
- UBStinky, on 10/12/2007, -8/+45It kinda reminded me of a bad SNL skit. I don't think I could put up with a whole show of that. I'm sorry... BO mag will never stand up to Stewart's rant about the sausage on a stick wrapped in a pancake. ( i know they don't compare... but hey that's the way I roll).
- DrewBlood, on 10/12/2007, -5/+40This Week In Godlessness
- fotd42, on 10/12/2007, -7/+41Fine, name one popular conservative comedian who's actually funny.
Dennis Miller doesn't count because he is no longer popular nor funny. - spraguep, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36and also sucks
- azAZ09, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35If you think CNN is the left you are mistaken. Just because their noses are not as tightly wedged in the G.O.P. orifice as Faux News does not put them in the common sense category.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+37Christian rock fills me with the uncontrollable urge to rip off the limbs of the offending "artists" and repeatedly beat them with their own dismembered appendages until they physically cease to exist.
