Congressman makes "Davy Crockett Defense" of Iraq escalation (VIDEO)

thinkprogress.org — During the House Iraq debate, Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) said, "Could you picture Davy Crockett at the Alamo looking at his Blackberry getting a message from Congress? 'Davy Crockett, we support you. The only thing is we are not going to send any troops.' I'm sure that would really be impressive to Davy Crockett." Seriously. Watch the vid.

    "Why would Davy Crockett, a six-foot tall Frontiersman, own a Blackberry in 1836? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with Iraq? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with Iraq! It does not make sense! Look at me. I'm a congressman defending a war policy, and I'm talkin' about Davy Crockett! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're in your home district deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed congress, it does not make sense! If Davy Crockett owns a Blackberry, you must acquit! The defense rests."
