With his regular audience I think he would've ***** 'Don't ask, Don't tell' into the ground quite a bit more than he just did.

- teamgwho, on 06/11/2009, -0/+24Straight Guy #1: So what did you do this weekend?
Straight Guy #2: my wife and I went out to the wine festival...
Straight Guy #3: My girlfriend and I went to the beach...
Gay Guy: My boyfriend and I went to the park...
All the Straight Guys: Stop telling us about your sex life! - xan07, on 06/11/2009, -1/+24As a US Marine, I feel obligated to say the USMC is the most homoerotic group of men on this earth.
- junskey, on 06/11/2009, -0/+17he sort of has to be rigid though so he doesn't offend the soldiers. back at home he's got a more understanding audience. at least he's scraping the surface a bit
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+14maybe they should ban homophobes instead. Seriously. They destroy unit cohesiveness, always worrying about whether some other dude is staring at their package.
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+13And other countries who allow gays to serve openly haven't had their militaries fall apart because...? No seriously, WTF?
Also, wouldn't the straight guys already have to assume they're probably showering with gay guys? - inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+11END DISCRIMINATION AGAINST GAYS IN THE MILITARY.
Happy?
Sgt Connie Dobbs, USMC 91-95. Oooh rah. - alanocu, on 06/11/2009, -4/+14Colbert is a good guy, and he's always supported our military. Whether we may or may not agree with his politics, he certainly is doing a great thing with Donors Choose charity for the men and women in the military, and their families.
- JoeMondo, on 06/11/2009, -0/+9You have a ridiculous phobia.
- cybershoplifter, on 06/11/2009, -0/+8I love his show but the bit was just not that funny..now shaving his head and boot camp was.."I'll be right back I just have to get my chapstick"
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+8Why the ***** should it matter? You choose your religion, but the military isn't allowed to discriminate on the basis of religion.
- chaos7, on 06/11/2009, -1/+8"don't ask, don't tell" is ***** stupid. who gives a ***** what sexual orientation someone is in the military.
- Mistaxe, on 06/11/2009, -1/+8Argument for "Don't ask, Don't Tell": If there are gay men around lots of hard-bodied young men, how can they control themselves?
Argument against: Nowadays, women serve alongside straight men. How is this not the same problem? - 08STI, on 06/11/2009, -2/+9I can't believe that this is still happening in the military...its discrimination, and I thought that as a country we were past that.
- durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -0/+6
"If youre a straight man you dont normally want a gay man oggling your package"
Gay people aren't going to oggle your package. Gay people, by virtue of paranoid fears such as yours that our society has of them, are much more restrained and reserved than straight men. - MaxxusFlamus, on 06/11/2009, -0/+6just let a dude touch your penis. It's not so bad.
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+5this.
- Mistaxe, on 06/11/2009, -1/+6No...the problem is that you have testosterone laden horny men who can't control themselves. I knew several guys like this in high school and a few of the went into the military. I've also heard plenty of stories from other friends about their times in the barracks and how the men treated the women across the base. It's pretty despicable, if you ask me.
- durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -0/+5
"So this is the thread where a bunch of folks who never served in the military offer their thoughts of what the military should do."
No, that's called the Project for A New American Century. - inactive, on 06/11/2009, -1/+6That ASCII Colbert has gigantic lips
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -4/+8Frankly, I don't see what the big fuss is about "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." I think it's perfectly reasonable. The only gripe I have is that I think it should be extended to heterosexuals, as well. I don't want to know about your ***** sex life, regardless of orientation. Plus, it's not fair.
...
Of course, the military would quickly fall apart because heterosexual men would be booted out in droves, but by golly, that's a risk I'm willing to take. - inactive, on 06/11/2009, -2/+6This was lame. He did a very poor job on this one. He could've done a lot more with don't ask don't tell.
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -1/+5that.
- dstz, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3Beside, he always wins.
- falconear, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3Personally I take anybody ogling my package as a good sign. I'd also appreciate a thumbs up. :)
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3I wonder if people are aware that we're saying the same thing here, because you're getting dugg up and I'm getting buried.
- gordigor, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2END DISCRIMINATION AGAINST GAYS IN THE MILITARY.
Happy?
SrA Brown, USAF 91-95. (coincidence?) - frostbyt, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Who is that? And why are the lips huge?
- skztr, on 06/11/2009, -3/+5Can't we just kick everyone out of the military who is so unprofessional that sexual orientation (or gender) would matter at all?
Also, make the women cut their hair too, and make them share the various hygiene facilities with men. I saw a program the other day where Stephen Fry said something like "Is it all men, here? Or men and women?" and the commander of a submarine said, in all seriousness: "If we had women, we'd need separate bathrooms"
Is our military so unprofessional that they're go into a giggle-fit rather than fire a missile if a girl sat down to pee next to them?! - gordigor, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2You guessed wrong.
- TheLordOfBlah, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Stephen doesn't do his "Formidable Opponent" bit enough. It's hilarious every time.
- acparks1, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Cynical much?
- DarkBlueAnt, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2This is his chance to win people over who hate him. Lots of conservatives who hate him now (both in the military and not) might change their attitude if he does well with the troops.
- CptCancer, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2Calm down, Egon Spengler.
- jjohnstn, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2 I don't get the "Do you know Jodie" line... inside joke with the troops?
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Not every Marine. Some of us were WM's. :) Every day in 4th batallion is like a gay pride parade, so much butchness. It's HOT.
- Talal, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2I didn't really find that funny. I like Colbert, but that wasn't funny. He should have knocked that policy to the ground and ***** on it, so I was quite disappointed.
- gemlogger, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2Here's a question: Why is that Google has no problem doing a geoip (like my own servers), but they can't? Why not just redirect us canucks to the server they 'like' for us for some reason?
- dstz, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1It's not his regular show, it is a visit to the troops in the great tradition of it.
- dstz, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1(x-forwarder)
- pathouston22, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Didn't realize asking for and getting answers to a question is getting pwned.
Hope you're not in school anymore! - gordigor, on 06/11/2009, -1/+2***** You. You seemed to thing homosexuals are all animals that can't control urges. You idiot, there are gay dudes with straight dudes already
- lovek, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Someone get pathouston22 a "Pwned by the US Military" bumper sticker.
I assume they have a stack of these somewhere that they hand out to Al Qaeda.
No? - fascistpig, on 06/11/2009, -2/+3You.
- govtdoesnotwork, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1"Jodie" is a generic moniker among US troops which means "a second stateside boyfriend on the sly."
- lovek, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Ha. Point well made. I retract my statement.
- DivisibleByZero, on 06/11/2009, -1/+2Dude, easy. The "instant orgy" thing was a joke. All I'm saying is a room full of gay guys would have the same potential mishaps as a room full of half men and half women. So if separating men and women is of concern to you, gay people present quite a challenge.
- bebouchard, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Yes, and no. I agree he failed to take a definitive stance on the issue, but I was also impressed he mentioned it at all.
