- unknownsoldierX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Mr. Cheney, please read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checks_and_balances - modiggs1976, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22from the article:
"After Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in August 1990, Bush sent 500,000 U.S. troops to Saudi Arabia. As they prepared to attack the Iraqi forces, Cheney told Bush that it was unnecessary and too risky to seek a vote in Congress.
'I was not enthusiastic about going to Congress for an additional grant of authority,' Cheney recalled in a 1996 PBS "Frontline" documentary. 'I was concerned that they might well vote 'no,' and that would make life more difficult for us.'
But Bush rejected Cheney's advice and asked Congress for a vote in support of the war. The resolution passed -- barely."
So Bush Senior, unlike Bush Jr., actually had some integrity and didn't simply let his Cabinet and veep tell him what to do. Man, I miss the good old days when you assumed the White House supported the Constitution and you argued about how much better the Genesis was than the SNES on a BBS without worrying about Big Brother holding it against you. - nmeadata, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22"In 34 years, I have repeatedly seen an erosion of the powers and the ability of the president of the United States to do his job,"
Darn that supreme court and congress /sarcasm - payndz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Come on, Cheney, just say what you *really* think. "The President is above the law." That's about right, isn't it?
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Cheney has always seemed out of place, what he needs is a genuine dictatorship with no checks and balances.
- loudribs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10What's the hunting like there? Can you get liquored up and shoot your friends with no legal comeback? That would be the clincher.
- sudonim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Cuba, good cigars there. I also hear that they may be short of a dictator shortly
- SteveSgt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9So should we figure out the right country to send him to where he can get what he needs?
Suggestions? - rhawk301, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You are totally on the right track here. Cheney and Rumsfeld have been working with a secretive COG team since the Reagan era and before. I think it is pretty clear that the PNAC boys would really like to see a dictatorship in order for their "master plan" to take effect.
http://www.finalcall.com/artman/publish/article_2409.shtml - Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Why does Dick Cheney hate the US Constitution?
- LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Who else thought of Palpatine when they read this?
- Denver80203, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5He hates americans for our freedoms
- tjlsmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Look, Dick Cheney is a stone psychopath. Guys like him are the reason democracy doesn't work over the long run. (Nothing else works either, by the way. That's The Human Problem.)
Although he is a war monger he got SEVEN deferments during the Vietnam War to avoid going.
Let's you and him fight, right Dick?
People like this is why Hell was conceived of. In LIFE he is a total winner. It's only after death we can hope for some justice done. - int3lx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My only worry was that Bush would die and the VEEP would become president. That is currently a concern but for wildly different reasons.
J. Danforth Quayle is to Cletus Spuckler as Richard Cheney is to C. Montgomery Burns - useful, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Checks and balances imply that each side needs to try to push the balance in their favor before the other sides apply their check.
- JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Terrorstorm covers related things, but is not the same theme as this.
- toddhenkel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Always look at the actions of a politician - not what they say or try to spin.
Keep that in mind for the next election. No matter how centrist/moderate/"just like you" they will try to make themselves out to be, they have a track record to see what they really stand for. And if there is no track record, stay away. - spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well Said MoDiggs!
- dmjarrington, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Dick Cheney is a nazi.
- polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I know I am spamming, but this should get dugg
http://digg.com/politics/American_Enemy_Combatant_Subjected_to_Torture_Now_Mentally_Damaged#c4108154 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No he isn't. Nazi's have strong bodies and good fashion sense.
- Bushlied, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cheney is the antiChrist, that being said. He won't serve a minute in prison when everything is said and done. And like tjlsmith said, he will pay with his soul.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Iran Contras scandal was not the first time the executive branch abused its powers? Now that is an understatement. Let's see, we could start with Lincoln, then FDR who seemed to perfect it for every other that followed. It's always so ironic, not to mention hypocritical, when the Democrats slam Bush for the same thing they praise about former presidents who did the same thing. (and vice versa)
- toddhenkel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@Corrosionx
That is my point! They therefore have a track record by which to judge them by.
What's different now with the Dems now though is that act indignant that Bush did all this. Don't dare call them on that point since reversing course won them the recent elections. But they are complacent and just as responsible.
Never, ever trust a politician regardless of what they say or what party affiliation they align themselves with. - LucidHawk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Palpatine you say?

..
..Cheney is a power figure of the Illuminati, they have been trying to give presidents power because they want the world to unite in war against the US eventually.. and form a new world order led by the great Illumined one. Christians might like to call him by the name Lucifer. - goldylocks7621, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"So Bush Senior, unlike Bush Jr., actually had some integrity"
Bush Senior didn't have any integrity either. He was still attacking a country that had not attacked us. There is also the little fact that he was the main person urging sanctions that ended up killing at least 500,000 Iraqi children. - Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2toddhenkel: Don't forget the Democrats have a track record of going along with every fascist bill this administration has thought up.
- zargon26, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2See the above post on "terrorstorm". Pretty much the same theme.
