- NoahVail, on 10/12/2007, -16/+135No, the article is basically correct. Rumsfeld thought there would be a series of 1year wars, each one leaving a cheering crowd behind, thanking us profusely for setting the citizens free to pursue western-style democracy. Rummy is a big fan of blitzkrieg (transformation), but a poor student of history.

- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -13/+69Anyone reminded of Wilson's speech at the end of 1984? A state of perpetual war.
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stomping on a human face -- forever." - Hawk2007, on 10/12/2007, -47/+92yeah, and wesley clark wouldn't have any axes to grind with anybody....
- BigKoi, on 10/12/2007, -14/+58@right75,
You are calling a 4 star general , wounded in Vietnam ( Shot 4 times ) and awarded bronze and silver stars, was a Rhodes Scholar , holds an advanced degree in economics, several honorary Knighthoods, the USA's highest civilian level award of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and a National Audubon Society award a twerp...
Clearly you must be a republican. Why do Republican's always say bad things about Vietnam Vets ? Yet they bolster fellow Republicans that dodged service in Vietnam as brave Americans... - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47"voting is pointless"
*smack* Don't you EVER, EVER say that. It's THAT kind of attitude that kept people from going to the polls to vote for someone different in the first place. - tont0r, on 10/12/2007, -10/+46As much as im a democrat and stand mostly center/left, id still take this article with a grain of salt. Only time will tell though.
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Disagreeing is not treason, and it does not make the troops cry. Many of them disagree with this stupid war. Think about it from their point of view. A lot of them joined the national guard. Not the army, the national guard. They signed up to do things like pile up sand bags at a flood in South Dakota or hand out bottled water to people who survived a tornado. Now they're in Fallujah getting blown up by roadside bombs because this government lied about WMDs. What happened to this "one weekend a month" from the commercial? Many people are against this war, and that does not mean they hate America and want all the troops to die. Support the troops by bringing them home.
You are right about one thing though, the government should do something about gas prices. Not what you're thinking though. You want them to lower gas prices. This is short-sighted, selfish, and destructive. Gas prices, as high as they are, are still artificially low. When you consider all the positive and negative effects of using gasoline, including pollution and global warming, the price for gas should be somewhere around $7 or $8 per gallon. If we allowed this to happen, there would be a very strong market incentive to develop alternative energy sources that are cheaper and cleaner than gasoline. Keeping prices artificially low only encourages wasteful overconsumption of a limited resource. If you have ever taken an economics class, that is a bad thing. I guarantee you that if gas was $8 per gallon a lot of these soccer moms would change their mind about needing the 17 seat SUV just to drive around the suburbs. - SIDSI, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Voting is pointless its time for revolution. Its time we the people take back our country and ...........hold on American Idol is on.
- gandhii, on 10/12/2007, -10/+38Also a poor student of the history he's been involved in. Rumsfeld was one of those aids who was a proponent of using small forces in Vietnam. One would think that he'd have learned the folly of that method... yet here we are again.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31Capt. Crunch is going to have a tough time beating Count Chocula.

:( - MrChips, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27It was O'Brian who gave that speech.
"How many fingers am I holding up Winston?" - joel2600, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28well the book was written in 2001 ... iraq is a given, the conflict with lebanon is apparent, syria is obviously being dragged into the mix as well, and everyone knows iran is in the crosshairs ....
sounds pretty close to what's going on right now for something written 5 years ago. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -16/+40^ brainwashed.
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31"People for a New American Century" is a *REAL* organisation made up of prominent businessmen, CEO's politicians and the like.
A large number of Bush's Administration *Really was* in this group prior to joining the Administration including Rumsfeld (Ex Chairman of Gilead of Tamiflu fame) Cheney (Ex Chairman & CEO of Halliburton) and many many more.
These people *REALLY DID* leave their jobs as CEO's of multinational corporations to join the Administration.
The PNAC *really have* written documents pertaining to this war exactly as this document speaks of... that is to say, the PNAC co-founded by Cheney, Rumsfeld, Forbes and others explicitly stated their mission prior to Bush being elected.
These are all simple, plain english, facts.
This is known (and known only) as an oligopoly. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -20/+43This honestly should not surprise anyone.
- plaunie, on 10/12/2007, -10/+31@Hawk,
Maybe, but that doesnt have anything to do with the validity of his argument - zSlider, on 10/12/2007, -11/+32It's not like he is planning on running for president in 2008.
Oh wait...he is. - cmiz, on 10/12/2007, -9/+30We gave the Iraqi people a voice... and they seem to all be saying "Get the hell out of our country"... am I the only when who's getting that feeling?
- skaughtm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24actually, i believe the total civilian death toll in iraq is well over 100,000 by now.
- thejadedmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -14/+33Gas prices are so high because Bush doesn't support peace in the middle east. Remember that Clinton dude who had oral sex in the oval office? well, he also pushed for stability which kept the gas prices down. Instability is what keeps the oil prices up, and increases profits for Ennron, Haliburtin, et al.
- vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20"I would have put pressure through the United Nations on Iraq. I would have worked for robust inspections."
"Thats what we were doing for 12 years...did it work?"
Well... If you count the fact we haven't found any WMDs... yet...
Apparently so. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23looks like israel didnt want to stick to the original timeline and jumped from iraq to lebannon skipping syria
- maxtypezero, on 10/12/2007, -10/+27signing up to defend your country is not the same as signing up to remove evil dictators.

The site might be suspect, but the quote is actually lifted straight from Clark's own book, Winning Modern Wars. Oddly enough, it came out three years ago, so it's hardly news... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24Don't forget Rove, and Wolfowitz was a key ***** as well . . .
- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23Iraq is not an acronym.
- Desertfox, on 10/12/2007, -25/+39This is indeed very shocking, but not surprising in any way, considering the Neo-con's view of "spreading democracy" aka war profiteering. Even crazy right wing people like Pat Buchanan now oppose what the Neo-cons are planning, even saying they are not doing what the American people want. The Neo-cons really want a WW3/WW4 (as they are calling these globakl conflicts on Fox news already) so in their delusional minds, Jesus can come back and somehow beam them to Heaven cause they represent God's work. It's sick and perverted since they don't care about the innocent civilians that die in their war (40,000+ in Iraq at LEAST). So much for the culture of life. Apparently, saving an embryo > 40,000 iraqis. I'm sick and tired of these Neo-cons and their hawkishness and hipocracy!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19@right75 What have you done that is so much better?
- evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Bush: "Dudes, we're going to war!"
Dudes: "You can't be serial!"
Bush: "I'm total serial!" (air guitar) - Twinked, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Who says when they're done in Lebanon, they're not just going to move on to Syria. Most western media is making light of what's going on. It's a very volatile situation over there at this time. Keep yourselves informed, read more then CNN & Fox News.
- buglord, on 10/12/2007, -11/+24When will the American public finally realize that they're being ***** and milked for every penny which then goes up the chain, some of which ends up as powderized DU wafting over the Middle East.
When will they finally realize that the government does not have their best interest in mind.
When will they break out of their media-imposed brainwashed stupor and revolt? - archerx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I'm surprised that North Korea is not on that list.
- bugsy187, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Motive proves nothing about the validity of facts. The Bush admin. and it's neoconservatives have been planning a series of invasions for years.
"The blueprint, uncovered by the Sunday Herald, for the creation of a 'global Pax Americana' was drawn up for Dick Cheney (now vice- president), Donald Rumsfeld (defence secretary), Paul Wolfowitz (Rumsfeld's deputy), George W Bush's younger brother Jeb and Lewis Libby (Cheney's chief of staff). The document, entitled Rebuilding America's Defences: Strategies, Forces And Resources For A New Century, was written in September 2000 by the neo-conservative think-tank Project for the New American Century (PNAC)."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pax_Americana - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19It's irrelevant what the current situation is in the middle east, or what anyone has to say about "the necessity" of tackling these problems head on.
Whatever happens from here on in needs to happen without Bush, Rumsfeld & Cheney. - fifty50, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16... followed by a "shock and awe"-esque wave of milky goodness.
- tont0r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16I applaud you for coming out and saying that you support Bush for Iraq. Not that I agree with you, but hey, Im glad you are honest. But could we really say that Iraq is in better condition than it was? If they were concerned with WMDs, why arent we taking out north korea? If we are concerned with human rights, we arent we pressuring china? If we are concerned with genocide, why arent we in dufar? I want to believe we are doing good in this world, but with these basic questions not having an answer, its extremely difficult to believe it.
Only reason I can think of is that fear gets votes. Tell people that they are going to have a plane flown into their house if they dont go into Iraq and you get everyone behind them.
Also homophobia gets votes, but thats a different subject. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15@mecole21
We tried that once in the mid-1800's... - chener, on 10/12/2007, -15/+26Especially when the source of info comes from someone who has his own political ambitions.
- becominglumberg, on 10/12/2007, -16/+26I honestly find this article lacking some credibility. First, it is written by 'a concernded citizen'. Second, its homepage is riddled with libel, not to mention a great picture of Bushy with a nuke going off behind him. Please, less FUD on Digg.
- ezod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@ TubaTechno
Are you serious?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neocon - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12The US is concerned with it's own interest. However, that does not reflect the best interest of the citizens of the US.
I think that was made pretty clear after Katrina. Bush and his regime really don't give a ***** about the people of this country, as long as there is profit to be made by conquering other countries. - hormelmeatco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11There's still killing going on in Sudan, and last time I checked, Kim Jong Il had nukes and is making the delivery systems to put them almost anywhere he wants.
For every lie about Iraq, some other place fits the justification better... - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I guess he has got an agenda...
He wants to run for president in 2008, and his agenda is that he wants there to still be a country to run for president in... - Corvidae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10One correction, as far as I've heard, the entire administration are still members of PNAC. The only difference is they don't attend meetings, they only show up for speeches.
- escheppa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I think what was meant by 'blitzkrieg (transformation)' was a fast transition of power, so maybe the correct punctuation would have been blitzkrieg-transformation.
