- dforty3, on 03/07/2008, -5/+142If there is a silver lining to the Administration's complete disregard for the Constitution, it's that the Democrats can be seen for the enablers that they are with their refusal to hold impeachment hearings. They put politics before their oath to defend the Constitution. There is no excuse for them. Maybe, just maybe, more people will get a clue about the fraud we call US Politics.
- GhostyBoy, on 03/07/2008, -0/+99I like how Bush says "let us never tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories", but he is seriously the most paranoid guy I've ever heard of.
Seriously, this is the same idiot who thought there were WMD's in Iraq and that Iran had a dangerous nuclear program...and now he wants to search everyone's mail? He thinks there are ***** terrorists hiding around every corner.
Seriously, George, everyone's not out to get you, dude. Just chill the ***** out. Take off the presidential tin-foil helmet. - Waiting2awake, on 03/07/2008, -4/+73Americans......is THIS enough yet? When are you planning on taking a stand?
- cambob76, on 03/07/2008, -0/+48George Bush hates your freedom.
- Groovemaster, on 03/07/2008, -1/+40He never really thought Iraq was a threat. He's a liar, remember? He just wanted Americans to think it was a threat.
America is a war corporation, and it can't generate profits without creating constant global conflict. - SoyJames, on 03/07/2008, -8/+43Here comes the inaccurate tag in 3... 2... 1...
- AndreiOttawa, on 03/07/2008, -0/+34When Bush said that he wanted to bring democracy to Iraq, he meant that he would take it from Americans and would give it to Iraqis.. Judging by the way things are going it looks like it was lost in transit.
- Dumbledorito, on 03/07/2008, -1/+34They almost need a "we don't want to believe it la-la-la" tag.
- BigManOnCampus, on 03/07/2008, -2/+34Both parties are nothing more than financial mechanisms for gaining power. they probably haven't cared about principles for 100-150 years or so. I'm still dumbfounded when I meet smart people who say, "I will never vote 3rd party, why would I just throw away my vote?" they don't seem to understand that regardless of which party they vote in, they're throwing away their vote.
- inactive, on 03/07/2008, -3/+30As much as some of you hate Ron Paul i seriously suggest you get your asses out of your computer chairs and join the walk for the constitution and freedom that the Paulites will be holding in Washington. Bush has gone too far..
- revvolution, on 03/07/2008, -0/+25You know what really pisses me off is that my own peers don't give a flying ***** about this stuff.
I just got done trying to knock some sense into a couple of kids who don't think this is a real issue. The argument why it isn't a big deal is because "they have nothing to hide". Too many people are drinking the koolaid that this is acceptable when all the terrorists in the world want to kill us because of our way of life -- what *****. It seems like the real issue now is that most only look at the world in a self -centered view and how it affects them currently, no thought or foresight into the future and why this may give some nutcase president in the future the prerogative to actually implement policies that will affect them directly. Then they'll whine and complain, yet all along their complacency is what cause it.
it's amazing how education in this country doesn't encourage many to think for themselves.
i just had to rant - goodinohio, on 03/07/2008, -0/+24North Korea does this, what's the problem?
- mariajose578, on 03/07/2008, -2/+24yes every arab is by nature a terrorist
/sarcasm - bobthebruce123, on 03/07/2008, -0/+21The defense for this is the ridiculous idea of the "ticking letter". Because are always sending packages with bombs wired to wind up clocks.
- israelanderson, on 03/07/2008, -1/+22Will the real Americans please STAND UP!!!
- ColorBlind, on 03/07/2008, -0/+19You hear that....do ya????
That's the sound of our rights smoldering in a pile of ****. - avisgoth, on 03/07/2008, -0/+18You are all that is wrong with this country currently.
- mrfunktastic, on 03/07/2008, -0/+16EVERYBODY with a brain recognized the Iraq war drums for what they were: *****.
- mrfunktastic, on 03/07/2008, -0/+16A little something called Nazi Germany. Take a history class.
- angusm, on 03/07/2008, -10/+25Mail? Who sends mail any more?
If the president wants to snoop my utility bills, begging letters from charities and mail order catalogs, he's more than welcome. That's about the only kind of mail I still get.
But maybe foreign terrorists are different. Maybe they send each other long, wordy letters: "Weather in [redacted] is gorgeous this time of year, wish you were here. The kids are doing well in school and Fatima sends her love. Kisses, Ahmed. P.S. We blow up the Pentagon Thursday. Be ready." If that's the case, then I can see that the power to open the mail might be necessary to our national security. We're lucky that we have a far-sighted president who's prepared to do the legislative equivalent of crossing his fingers behind his back to protect us. - Groovemaster, on 03/07/2008, -0/+15Not true. The intelligence community didn't believe there were WMD's but the Bush administration created a PR campaign and "fixed the facts around the policy" (source: the Downing Street memos) to sell the war to the gullible American population.
- Dumbledorito, on 03/07/2008, -1/+16Uh, no. Some of us here aren't blinded by ideology and don't want ANY president of ANY party to be able to do things like this.
- BuzzFriendly, on 03/07/2008, -0/+15Nothing in this law limits searches to Middle Easterners. What Uncle Sam loves, is people just like you willing to give up your constitutional rights.
"Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither." Benjamin Franklin - zepher5150, on 03/07/2008, -1/+15Let me remind all the Hillary Rodham Clinton supporters that Hillary Clinton voted for the USA Patriot Act in October 2001.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillary_Clinton - mrfunktastic, on 03/07/2008, -0/+13This is why he needs to open the mail. To try to find it.
- 955701, on 03/07/2008, -1/+13nah, we're too busy picking up the pieces of our shattered proletariat lives.
- inactive, on 03/07/2008, -1/+13Its like they are systematically taking our rights away for a reason........
The right to privacy no longer exists in Amerika. - inactive, on 03/07/2008, -0/+12That's Ok., 9 times out of 10, it's a dildo
- layfield02, on 03/07/2008, -0/+12THATS NOT THE POINT *****
- jroyale, on 03/07/2008, -0/+11Your contempt for the Constitution is, well, contemptible. If you want to live in a Police State, move to Russia or North Korea and leave our rights alone.
- BuzzFriendly, on 03/07/2008, -2/+13"Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither." Benjamin Franklin
- Waiting2awake, on 03/07/2008, -0/+11And Europe, and Canada, and, and, and, and.... Actually it was only Americans, thanks to their propagan.....errrr.....I mean media.
- orxor, on 03/07/2008, -1/+12Shut up! American Idol is on and this is supposed to be the beast season EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
- dforty3, on 03/07/2008, -0/+10More like they made a political decision not challenge the lying bastards doctoring the intelligence reports despite all the contradictory reports available.
- hlampert, on 03/07/2008, -0/+10It's hard to believe that any observant person l can still credit "Bush" as the architect of the coordinated attack on the constitution. Isn't it fairly obvious to everyone that he's just the straw man? I don't claim to know exactly who or what is the organizing intelligence, but its clear it isn't him.
- ClosedCaption, on 03/07/2008, -0/+10what about them keeping eye on anti war Mormons? and Americans records are being swept up not Middle easterners with terrorist ties. I mean how many reports from the IG can you ignore?
- cryptoki, on 03/07/2008, -0/+10oh... so thats why the birthday card arrived without the 20 dollars in it.
- ClosedCaption, on 03/07/2008, -0/+9Why dont small govt conservatives ever say something about this *****? They are slow walking us to the point where they believe Bush can do ANYTHING. They're just justifing all of it bit by bit. First we dont torture, talk about it talk about it. Now we do torture but we need to....Discuss, Discuss. We dont wiretap without a warrant...talk talk, Ok really we do but we have too. Discuss, discuss...No Americans rights have been violated deny deny...Ok the IG issued a report sayin we do but we need too.
All for one justification: Terrorist - cornwarrior, on 03/07/2008, -0/+9People, people...It's ok, Jesus told him to do it.
Seriously, he is the worst president ever. Is this China? What happened to my right to privacy? First my phone conversations and emails, now my f**king MAIL??!! What's next searching my car or house without a warrant? Kidnapping me in the middle of the f**king night? - hentaixen, on 03/07/2008, -0/+9In neo-con america, review watches you
- Arcueid01, on 03/07/2008, -3/+11Keep voting for the same old rhetoric people. When will you people vote for a President that give a ***** about your liberty? When will you dig deeper than a half-baked mass media story on a candidate and pull up voting records? People lie don't you realize this? Voting records don't lie! This is soooooooooooooo simple. Take a long hard look at your candidate's voting history and you will see whether your candidate sucks or not. RON PAUL for President! He is the only one who has a crystal clean voting record. No other candidate that say that!
- mrcoderga, on 03/07/2008, -0/+8Impeachment is the remedy for presidents who cannot follow the rules. The Constitution says sign the bill, or return it to congress without signing it. There are no "whatever I focking wanna do becomes the law" options in our Constitution.
- GhostyBoy, on 03/07/2008, -0/+8In situations I would ask 'who benefits?'
That would lead me to suspect war profiteers including banking cartels who lend U.S. the money, military industrial complex, CIA, FBI, drug cartels and probably a few media moguls. The ultra-rich.
It's kind of creepy but this really is a case of the "man behind the throne", and I can tell you with absolute certainty that he intends to stay there after Bush is gone. The country is still ***** until that parasite is routed out, regardless of who gets elected. Lots of Obama supporters are fooling themselves (not all of them, obviously) into thinking the Bush regime ends with Bush.
Actually, to be fair, I would guess that 99.999% of Clinton or McCain supporters have no clue that their candidate won't be in charge of *****, whereas *some* Obama supporters have a clue, I hope. - dddavid, on 03/07/2008, -0/+8The problem is, you can right all the whiny laws you want, and if you're still going to let the S.O.B. get away with this it matters not. Prosecute the bastard. Impeach the S.O.B. DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION! (Before it's too late)
- jblossom, on 03/07/2008, -0/+8It certainly is a direct violation of the Fourth Amendment:
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
Mails are papers, as far as I can see, unless they're claiming that because they're in the postal system they're not your property yet. But that seems to go against long-standing postal regulations which make it illegal to open mail without probable cause - and, as I understand it, a warrant in most instances. - inactive, on 03/07/2008, -0/+8I am not going to yell at you. The fact is THEY can deem a site you visit, a letter you receive or send or a host of various and sundry things- in fact whatever they see fit which makes you a terrorist or a terrorist sympathizer, dissident, constitutionalist and throw your ass in Gitmo- even if you Google the constitution to just read it!!!!
Are you getting the picture now- or do I have to yell at you like everyone else? Read mein kampf and learn something. - greenm1981, on 03/07/2008, -1/+9I love the quote, but get it right.
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" Benjamin Franklin - waspbr, on 03/07/2008, -0/+8next thing we know, they are going to seize our banks accounts on the suspicion of terrorist financing without a warrant or proof
