- kremvax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+44Well, they "tolerate" us because we have tanks...and they don't.
Why is that hard for the president to understand?
Or was the president now trying to blame the Iraqi people for their complete social breakdown after we destablized their country, disbanded their police and military, bombed the hell out of their infrastructure, and failed to put anything workable in its place?
Doesn't that guy ever get tired of blaming other people for his mistakes? I'm surprised he didn't try to pin this on Clinton! - Alcorsu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48Bush claims he doesn't pay attention to the polls, so he probably missed this recent one in Iraq (from TP):
– A large majority of Iraqis -- 71% -- say they would like the Iraqi government to ask for US-led forces to be withdrawn from Iraq within a year or less. Given four options, 37 percent take the position that they would like US-led forces withdrawn “within six months,” while another 34 percent opt for “gradually withdraw[ing] US-led forces according to a one-year timeline.”
– Support for attacks against US-led forces has increased sharply to 61 percent (27% strongly, 34% somewhat). This represents a 14-point increase from January 2006, when only 47 percent of Iraqis supported attacks.
– More broadly, 79 percent of Iraqis say that the US is having a negative influence on the situation in Iraq, with just 14 percent saying that it is having a positive influence.
– Asked “If the US made a commitment to withdraw from Iraq according to a timeline, do you think this would strengthen the Iraqi government, weaken it, or have no effect either way?” 53 percent said that it would strengthen the government, while just 24 percent said it would weaken the government.
– Asked what effect it would have “if US-led forces withdraw from Iraq in the next six months,” 58 percent overall say that violence would decrease (35% a lot, 23% a little).
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/09/27/iraqis-poll/ - alphex, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42Its one thing to be exposed to such ignorance, at a level that makes you want to vomit, but to see it coming from the 'elected' president of the United States of America.... I'm constantly rendered speechless by him.
- dorthensensens, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38I don't get it. When I heard the Bush was elected over Gore in 2000, I thought, wow that was a dumb thing for the American people to do but I guess the American people needed a change (granted the chad scandal). Later, when Bush went on to "prove" that Iraq had WMD and that Iraq had a hand in 9/11, it was obvious to me (and others I spoke with) that he was either mistaken or lying and that these "mistakes" (I'm giving him the benefit) would surely get him out of office come 2004. Low and behold, 2004 elections come around and YOU (a majority this time) VOTE HIM IN AGAIN! Respectfully to the Americans reading this who voted him into office, you deserve all the crap that comes with re-electing such a clown. Anyone with half a brain saw this coming (well frankly its worse than I thought it would be). Digg me down all you like.
- sendnot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Of course, he's conveniently forgetting about the over 300,000 that have fled the country in the last 3 years...
- happyfappy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Let's not forget the 600,000 that have died in the last 3 years
- toneii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28more spoonfed logic. Maybe if we weren't doing things that motivate them to fight, we wouldn't have to fight them anywhere...
- EvilTesdall, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22my out cry would be, thank god we don't have bush as a president.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22No, you're right.
It hurts to say it, but our republic is a goddamned stupid and misinformed one. - Joe_rigby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20If it's a democracy, they should cast a vote to see who wants the American occupation to continue.
- friend18, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21THis is *****. Iraqi's don't want U.S. Invasion of freedom. These are ***** lies. Just like the toppling of Saddam was a hoax. This kind of ***** is to trick the America people into thinking Iraqi's are happy and romantisize Iraq. I'm sure 600,000 dead and their families are real happy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Any time I see "you know" in the middle of a Bush quote I know solid gold is going to follow it.
- dextroz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23just like how amurcans are willing to 'tolerate' 8 years of a certain 'level of shiat'
- Mardala, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@kremvax
I wouldn't call it tolerance. As the days go on the US is hated more and more. - wedderburn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18and i would sleep better if people like you were dead.
- Schug, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Does anyone call him "President Bush" any more? You hear Ex-President Clinton called "President Clinton" more often.
- justice7, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18now if we can just get this nukuler problem that we mis-underestimated solved.. i can go back to playin golf.
Now watch this swing... - trueking7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Peace. I'm sick and tired so I'm just going to put it straight. George W. Bush is a moron, a rich and powerful moron, but still a red-necked air-banjo-playing moron. Anyone who disagrees with me is a moron too. Either that, or I'm a moron and George W. Bush should be canonized a living saint. How's that for argument made ad-hominem -- one more critique for you predictable haters out there to regurgitate. Bush says war; I say peace. PEACE!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Our elected representatives are all going to hell kicking and screaming.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Worst...public speaker.....EVER.
- redfan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13People have always been gullible. Karl Rove and company just figured out how to exploit it. Tell people the same obvious lie over and over, and eventually they'll start to believe it. "Iraq has WMDs, Saddam was involved in 9/11, the world is safer because we invaded Iraq, etc."
It's really amazing though. Every time you think Bush can't possibly show himself to be even more oblivious, he goes and outdoes himself. - jo42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10...and as if they have any choice.
Feckin' monkey face making MORON. - smokinjuan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Because the whole ***** government is complicit.
It's right up there with aiding and abetting crimin.. oh, terrorists. - freff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"I am, you know, amazed that this is a society which so wants to be free that they’re willing to — you know, that there’s a level of violence that they tolerate."
Good Gawd. You could have told me that this had come directly from some 7th grade civics class, and I would have belived it. Amazing. - elamr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13
I'm glad GWB knows the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Moron, but not really Redneck....he did grow up in New England didn't he? That act-cent and attitude are marketing.
It be funny to hear his real accent once in a while.
PS
Used car sales men make stupid car commercials so you come into the lot with your guard down. - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Tolerate??? what tolerate??? tolerate, or else what? what would they do if they stopped tolerating it? civil war? oh wait, thats already happened. topple their leader? oh wait, we did that for them. become terrorists? ah, well, thats been going on for quite a while.
how could it get any worse for the iraqis? how can they tolerate?such a word is meaningless to them. there is no possible way they could engage in the act of tolerating. its like saying that back then there is a level of violence that black african slaves were willing to tolerate. - Burly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I don't understand why they can't prep Bush properly before interviews. This is living proof stupidity sells to the large percent of Americans.. big time, and his speech writers know this.
- oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Don't you know that Bush doesn't read the newpapers and doesn't listen to polls. Even if they did have an election with a referendum to kick out the US occupiers, Bush wouldn't find out about it.
And for God's sake, get Bush a new scriptwriter and make sure he doesn't deviate from the telepromptor. This ad-lib thing doesn't work for Bush. - cha5e, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I just wish someone would explain to me why the f*ck he hasn't been impeached yet. Surely one (if not all) of his laundry list of offenses are impeachable?
- sebnukem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9your chimp is so disconnected from the reality it's not even funny anymore. It's pathetic.
- smokinjuan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10THERE'S MORE THAN TWO ***** SIDES, fergus9.
THIS ***** WILL CONTINUE UNTIL YOU GET THAT THROUGH YOUR ***** HEADS.
Go ahead, be part of the problem... digg this line of thought right down there where the perception of the united states is. - infopro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It wouldn't happen, for one simple reason.
Gore has more brains, ethics, & morals than to attack a country that didn't attack us. Don't bother replying; I'm twitting trolls today. - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11The US does deserve what it gets when the best rebellion to the corporate hijack it can muster is referencing 200 year old victories, Jackass, South Park, and bumper stickers.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8he isnt a good speaker, he also talked about how he was going to repeat mistakes...when he meant to say, he was going to tell the reporters once again that he believes he has made some mistakes.. eh funny faux pas
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I didnt vote for bush the second time, diebold did.
- infopro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Just to keep all the facts accurate, Bush wasn't voted intro office in 2000. The legal procedure of the mandated manual recount was prevented by the US Supreme Court, who acknowledged that the recount was required & then in the same breath said it was too late to do it. Don't look at me -- I just tells the facts, I don't try to explain 'em. :)
- EvilTesdall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11if you can believe it ... i voted for kerry...and gore...
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7They're willing to tolerate violence brought on them by a group that 60% of them polled in 2005 wanted gone TODAY, that 50% of them polled wanted gone last month, and which 71% of them want gone in less than a year.
I wonder if Bush still wonders why a president who made his decisions based on polls has a 60+% approval rate both nationwide and worldwide and holding for the last six-to-eight years while his own approval ratings are dipping into the low 30's.
George W. Bush is an idiot. As the last real governor I had said, "George can't help it...he was born with a silver foot in his mouth!" R.I.P., Ann. - hifiDesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8All hail King Moron.
- EbowUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'm not usually one to use bad language on public forums, but ***** hell - he is utterly deluded.
I'm guessing by tolerate he meant "have to worry about on a daily basis because the choices are limited".
Another usage would be: "the world tolerates George W Bush".
I'm off to Google to check he doesn't have any spawn that can become President in the next 50 years... - shawnfassett, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"tolerate" ???
655,000+ Iraqi deaths: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/10/AR2006101001442.html - Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I wonder if Bush has a source to found that statement?
Which victims to the violance in Iraq told him it was OK?
It's of course an extremely convient way to later be able to pull out of there though, and one would have to be an idiot to not see what Bush is getting at. Only an equal idiot would claim a thing like this and think people wouldn't see that, and that idiot is in this case Bush. - NPcomplete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm not the expert on how the Iraqi people think, because I live in America, where it's nice and safe and secure.
--George w. Bush
This is from a Bush-ism gadget on my Google home page. This shoulde explain everything... Exactly how did he manage to get relected again? - drpeppper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@archiesteel
WHO CARES! he got the point across. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7
so the iraqis will pack up and have their civil war here?
why not put them all on the no fly list
see the president is as logicmacal as i am. - drpeppper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@psy
you will also get 2 pineapples in hell instead of one like Hitler. - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9pResident Bush.
Diebold won fair and square. - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"I am, you know, amazed that this is a society which so wants to be free that they’re willing to — you know, that there’s a level of violence that they tolerate."
Ah. Yes, I am amazed too. The US went to war after only 3,000 American deaths. The Iraqis never went to war. They're just insurgents. And sects of Islamic Extremists. And Civilia... Whoops! How'd that one get in there? *blushes* - bremstrong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Since this war was carried out by the US armed forces, paid for by US taxpayers, and launched by US elected representatives, it seems to me US voters and taxpayers should be paying attention to the consequences, as the duty of living in a democracy.
The Lancet study, using proper statistical methods concludes that the death rate in Iraq was 5.5 deaths/1000 people prior to the war, and 19.8 deaths/1000 people presently, with generous error bars due to the inherent difficulty of the task.
Regardless of who actually pulled the trigger/dropped the bomb/detonated the car, if the study is correct, a lot more people are dying than were before.
I find this sobering.
250,000 people mourning the loss of their parent, sister, brother, or child, as a result of this war.
Americans should ask themselves, is there an equal amount of good that has resulted to balance out the suffering and death? -
