- Stryder81, on 06/16/2008, -3/+29O Wow, Now that is a message and a half.
- barbsat, on 06/16/2008, -2/+26That about sums it up. Yes, the flag is still here. I wish I could say the same about the Constitution.
- alapoet, on 06/16/2008, -4/+26What an apropos statement!

- Surferess, on 06/16/2008, -2/+15I don't know. We have done some pretty unforgivable things over the years. I personally feel the way we dealt with the Native Americans was our biggest failure. That is great artwork with a message though.
- gordonbombay, on 06/16/2008, -1/+13When the next President takes office, it will be his job to handle recovery and rebuilding rather then continuance.
- WESTEE, on 06/17/2008, -1/+13Funny thing about it being Americas biggest failure is that u re-elected him
- ciaran036, on 06/16/2008, -1/+13Here are pictures from BBC's coverage of Bush protests in Belfast:

- stormkrow, on 06/17/2008, -1/+8Oh Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy.
George Bush is officially the worst president in the entire history of the US. 99% of historians agree as well as the entire free world. At the end of the day Jimmy Carter received the Nobel Peace Prize and Bush will be charged as a war criminal. Pretty big difference. - dukeeeey, on 06/17/2008, -2/+9Perfect, blame everything on Bush, not the entire corrupt administration. Bush just spends his time playing golf. He probably runs nothing. The democrats in congress are also as corrupt as the rest, both have been complicit in the crimes. Simply electing a new president is not going to fix things.

- insurgente, on 06/17/2008, -1/+5The Irish struggle is not a "senseless cycle of violence". If the Brits would get out of the Irish people's land, the violence would seize. The British Crown has as little claim to Northern Ireland as the United States has to Iraq, or Israel to Occupied Palestine.

- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+5That was settled in 1865. You racists lost. Move on.
- MCA2142, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3Hannity? Is that you?
- jcannonb, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3I am almost embarrassed to say I am a citizen of the same country as the worst and most corrupt president in our history...
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+4Socialism?
Ever heard of the Indian Appropriation Act?
The reservation system was created with the purpose of stealing land and removing natives from white society.
By putting the natives in reservations, the majority of their territories became "unassigned" territory even if Natives were supposed to have exclusive rights to these lands.
And then the government sold these unassigned lands to white people. It's outright theft. They sold something they didn't own.
Reservations are a form of segregation that has the purpose of assimilating natives until they completely disappear.
Then they came up with the Indian reorganization act. To allow Natives self government inside their own reservations.
Then in 1954 the department of interior basically took a giant dump on the Indian reorganization act, which caused the dismantling (and loss of rights) of over 60 tribal nations. Which allowed them to steal, again, thousands of square hectares of land, and sell it.
And in 2003, they came up with the Native American Technical Corrections Act. That was basically about stealing alaskan land to drill oil.
Native Americans are the only people in America that it is ok to discrimate against, steal from and screw over. - insurgente, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3The Brits are the occupying force. The internal conflict is not between Catholics and Protestants. It's between nationalists, who struggle for Irish independence, and unionists, who seek to keep Ireland under British rule.
- jeremyduffy, on 06/17/2008, -1/+4We hope. I'm terrified that someday, America will forget about Bush and he'll end up being honored somehow. (*shudder*)
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3Wait a minute. They (I'm native American) can leave any time they want. They would have to get a job if they left. James Watts said it like it is. The reservation system is proof that socialism doesn't work.
- jeremyduffy, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3This is sort of heartening actually. Some days, I feel like I can hope that the rest of the world understands that we've been victim of the same person that they have and that we're not really responsible for what he's done. Well, some people are. Namely congress who won't impeach the bastard.
- jlhoben, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3Is it just Bush? Follow the money.
- regression, on 06/17/2008, -0/+2This being digg, I guess I thought people would understand the Colbert reference...
- Malarie, on 06/17/2008, -0/+2Nice Nickname.
- ciaran036, on 06/17/2008, -0/+2True. He is still a representation of what they stand for. And our opposition to that is a representation of how we feel on the matter.
And I agree. A new president is unlikely to fix things, not from what I've seen so far. - wazzu07, on 06/16/2008, -1/+2fo sho
- zer0nine, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1Couldn't have said it any better
- verbose, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1This explains the BSG mid-season finale.
- inactive, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Sorry, I misspelled. It should be "baffoon", or more commonly known as a "clown".
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -2/+3The Constitution is still there. It just hasn't meant much since Lincoln and every president and most of the congress since decided that the federal government should be above the states.
- ciaran036, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1Now it is but only in recent years.
- inactive, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1President Lincoln trashed the Constitution by summarily freeing the slaves, which technically was up to each State to decide for themselves.
Remember, the Constitution and thus the Federal Government was created by the States for a select few specific purposes, such as the printing of money, handling of foreign policy, and establishing of standards of weights and measures.
Using the Federal military to enforce one or a group of States' will against other States was blatantly unconstitutional and tyrannical...regardless of the morality of the cause.
The Civil War began the end of States' rights and the beginning of the rule of the Federal government over the States.
Lincoln led this effort. And the Founding Fathers rolled over in their graves. - InfamousAtheist, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1It's only temporary, we're working to rectify the situation.
BTW, you seem to lack conviction... why end with a "?" - InfamousAtheist, on 06/17/2008, -3/+4Dude... stop huffing those inhalants. Lincoln dismantled the Constitution? WTF?
- ciaran036, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1What's wrong with Germany, Italy and Russia? They're nice places to live in! Less so Russia though.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+2No one blames the ultra right for running away from Bush. He is a complete failure. But you guys loved him four years ago. What happened?
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1"They must become US Americans."
US Americans have a right to property. The fact that they should be assimilated doesn't excuse theft from the government.
They are denied the basic human right of property and even the right to defend their property and even the right to get it back from the people who stole it from them.
Imagine if you said the same about blacks. "Blacks are conquered people, they should accept slavery." - inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1So, who are the Brits? The Catholic or the Protestants?
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1I've heard of it all. Doesn't make any difference. The individual cannot own the land their house sits on. They cannot own the minerals. Yes, they were screwed over, but they are a conquered people. They must assimilate. They must become US Americans. Most remain on the reservations because it is easier than getting in the job market and become full fledged Americans. I know. I was raised on a reservation. Reservations are hell holes because that is what they want them to be. Have you ever visited the reservations? Prosperity is hopeless there. It'll never happen there just like it won't happen in the housing projects in you home town.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1Germany=Hitler, Italy=Mussolini, Russia=Stalin.
- ciaran036, on 06/16/2008, -1/+1I found this on Youtube - a brilliant poem about the last Bush visit to N.Ireland in 2005: http://youtube.com/watch?v=KfUsooc_050
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1"I personally feel the way we dealt with the Native Americans was our biggest failure."
Don't speak in the past tense, you're still actively screwing the natives.
The fact that you call them reservations instead of concentration camps doesn't change what it is. - inactive, on 06/18/2008, -1/+1atheist- no, he didn't dismantle. He ignored. Read some history.
- stormkrow, on 06/18/2008, -1/+1Lincoln Ranks # 2.
Carter ranks in the mid twenties and strangely the WSJ (A Murdoch owned company) rates Bushco 19.
Go figure.
Lincoln was perhaps the greatest president this country has known; especially for that dark time in this nations history.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_rankings_o ... - inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1And Belfast is such a peace loving city itself.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 06/17/2008, -4/+3If there's someone that understands the senseless cycle of violence, I guess its Northern Ireland.
- inactive, on 06/16/2008, -3/+2If our President fails, I think America fails ?
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -2/+1"bafoon?"
Wow.
Just wow. - inactive, on 06/17/2008, -2/+1Racists? You are an idiot. Do you not know history? Lincoln was the first to suspend Habeous Corpus. Bush was the most recent. Oh, you think I'm concerned about the slavery issue? You again are an idiot leftist. Please bone up on your US history. Then we can discuss it like two grown-ups.
