- ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not exactly I don't think. The north vietnamese and viet cong were decimated by the tet offensive, it was a complete military loss. However, through propoganda they won the information war. America was convinced that we'd lost somehow. That is sort of the template the terrorists and insurgents are using now. They know they cannot beat us militarily, just as Rumsfeld said a few days ago, but they can beat us propogandically, but using our media to fake stories, or exaggerate their damage and effectiveness, and thus convince America that the situation is unwinnable just like in vietnam, even though that was far from the case. In this way, I think the tet analogy is spot on.

"The Tet Offensive can be considered a crushing military defeat for the Communist forces, as neither the Viet Cong nor the North Vietnamese army achieved any of their tactical goals. Furthermore, the operational cost of the offensive was dangerously high, with the Viet Cong essentially crippled by the huge losses inflicted by South Vietnamese and other Allied forces. ... The Tet Offensive is frequently seen as an example of the value of propaganda, media influence and popular opinion in the pursuit of military objectives." - ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"us having to maintain a constant military presence for the unforseeable future is a loss in my opinion."
So are Germany, Japan, and South Korea all losses too? Because we still have troops in all 3 of those countries. Just the other day we said the we'd protect Japan from any North Korean hostilities. - nfulton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Tet Offensive = Pyrric Victory
- joshlrogers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1They may not be able to beat us strategically no, that is just numbers vs numbers, but us having to maintain a constant military presence for the unforseeable future is a loss in my opinion.
Anyways, with the way this country is running scared and we are becoming a police state, we have lost this war a while ago.....
