- sneakerchad, on 10/12/2007, -27/+118So your a racist bigot who doesn't like anyone who is not white? Or do you just want to "preserve the American culture?" Or do you simply long for the "country you grew up in" which just happened to be 89 or 90% white? Or do you just feel that it is wrong to "change the culture of a country" without it being put to a vote? Or do you just admire raving lunatic old white men with a cranky streak?
- petroK, on 10/12/2007, -23/+81In my day the n------ stayed on their side of the town w/ the sp---. Now I'm liable to run into one of them on the street, with their loud music and...
hey!
hey!
Get off my lawn...
damn kids - drftjgoj, on 10/12/2007, -10/+64This country also used to enforce slavery and not allow women to vote. I wonder if he likes that, too.

- neutrascrub, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47ever heard of the first amendment?
if he wants to be racist, he can be, that's the beauty of our country - rotten777, on 10/12/2007, -7/+39do you really have to wonder?
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -14/+44""He's not a waffler." didn't he just refuse to give a straight answer 3 times in a row?"
Exactly! He decided not to give an answer, and he stuck by that decision!
That pinko Kerry would have given in the second time. But not my boy bucky! No sir! - giantAppleCore, on 10/12/2007, -24/+54god I hate that guy
- Gryfft, on 10/12/2007, -11/+36@NThammer-
What. The. *****. - qwickone, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33Ok, fine he's not a waffler. He's hateful and bigoted every time he opens his mouth. At least he's consistent. At least we have THAT to be thankful for.
- wolvyne, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30So I'm assuming Pat wants to ignore the fact that whites took everything from the Indians? Or do we have to go farther back in history to where people where in only a small portion of the world? Freaking racist hypocrite.
- ptaylor, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27I really wished that the interviewer asked him that.
- Skas, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18@Justice
That's not racism, that's misanthropy, or some sort of anti-social disorder. Hating everyone equally is not racist.
On to the subject at hand: Buchanan is a tool. He's one of the problems with America, we have nothing but a bunch of fools in the media or in power.
Examples:
- The internet is a series of tubes
- Centipede is 97% violent
- America was better off when it was 90% white
Solutions to the problem include, but are not limited to:
-Getting out and voting, including primaries
-Not watching networks that are remotely affiliated with idiots like this
-Not watching shows that have idiots like this on them
If things like this *seriously* bother you, go do something about it. - KyleRayner, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21This guy is a complete bloody idiot. The country was once 100% American Indian. Does he think that his ancestors immigrated there completely legally and immediately set about improving the country and contributing to the current civilization?
People like this is why I left. Hypocrite. - fjvwing, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20Yes, but there's no need to give him airtime. The man's pretty much irrelevant politically, so why is he being put on? Because his book is so deep and insightful? Hell no, because winding up the old coot to see what he says next brings in ratings. Shame on H&C to put this unecessary racist segment on.
- sneakerchad, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18You can take solace in the fact that this nutcase ran for president twice and wasn't elected and eventually gave up. But then look who we have now.
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19Help us put an end to women's suffrage.
- Angoulemmy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20There's a phrase that the right wing in the US likes to use a lot or so i've read, that goes "if you dont like it, leave".
Disclaimer: I'm from the UK so i'm quietly smirking my socks off, although i know that reactionary grumpy-old-racist mantra goes on here. - mrcan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Exactly, this is a typical American thing to do, take only half the comment. He is referring to the fact that he enjoyed living in a city that was 50/50 despite the fact that the rest of the country was more along the lines of 90% white. I in no way support this guy, I just want to point out what he is actually saying.
- Wooism, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I think I agree with lidflipper. I can't watch the vid since i'm at work, so I don't know what precluded and followed this statement, but by the quote alone he says he misses the old days, then says where he grew up was 50/50 white/black even thought the rest of the country was not. Isn't he saying he liked how it was for him growing up, the 50/50?
- sneakerchad, on 10/12/2007, -12/+21Oh here we go again... another wingnut troll who starts to cry because the Republicans are so incredibly persecuted! Boo-*****-hoo! Its okay if they say ***** about people of color but heavens forbid anybody call them on their *****. Cry me a ***** river. Better yet here are some bricks...build a bridge and get the ***** over it. God how much are they paying these trolls to post this drivel?
- Ascus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Thank god for free speech. It makes it much easier to find out who the idiots are.
- EmperorMing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Also at work, also didn't find the racism.
- teknopagan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Now, just to be fair - what he said could be interpreted as "I liked the fact that I grew up in a city that was half-white, half-black at a time when the rest of the country was 90% white."
I don't quite get why everyone has to assume the worst possible connotation to everything that could be taken more than one way. - NapoleonGold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8reported as possible inaccurate I listened I heard what in gods name is INACCURATE?!?!?!??!!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7no; he is just saying that he would like to see less foreign people in a country that began with a lot less immigrants than we have now. Im not racist, but in the end, it just makes sense, that's if you dont take it out of context.
Plus Norway isn't America, and never will be; their two different places, different cultures and people. Use you head man. - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yes, when it's called Mexico?
- Ikioi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9What I would like is -- I’d like the country I grew up in. It was a good country. I lived in a country with a strong economy, jobs, no major wars, and under $1 for gasoline. Black folks and white folks, in a country 89 or 90 percent that seemed at least moderately happy. I like that country.
- wistar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This is how I interpreted it as well, that he liked the oasis of evenly mixed race in an otherwise nearly white desert. I can't watch the video, either, but it seemed like the article was taking things out of their context.
That said, Buchanan doesn't exactly come across as a great friend of tolerance. - SwordofKahless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Marked as inaccurate since the two comments in the headline are placed together taken out of context to appear he said them together. In other words making it appear as a racist statement. Sad.
Pulling the cover of Pat's "Death of the West" from the bookshelf I think he described it better as follows:
"America is losing the cultural war. Militant paganism is crowding our the old faiths. Separatism is triumphing over integration. The melting pot has become a salad bowl. And the impact upon American society, politics and culture will be devastating."
He has been driving this theory home for many years. To summarize, nations that have been a success throughout history have had a majority of one culture and to some extent assimilation of immigrants (the American melting pot is an example). When the culture that had been in power loses it's majority status and minority groups no longer assimilate into the mainstream culture over time that nation ends up breaking up into diverse ethnic groups.
With immigration in unprecedented overwhelming numbers that refuse to assimilate into American culture and declining status of the majority this seems to be where the country is headed. That is not a racist statement but a fact of life and a fact of world history.
The theme of Pat's books, "Death of the West" for example drive this theory not only about America but much of the west. In much of Europe for example Islamic culture due to mass immigration into Western Europe will be in the majority status in this century.
So you can spin him as a racist but the reality is America will eventually end up like the Balkans and we will have civil strife since the melting pot is broken. - EmperorMing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10When reading the blurb for this article it sounded to me like he was saying he liked living in DC with a more even black / white ratio then the rest of the country. If you focus in on just the "a country 89 or 90 percent white. I like that country." part it sounds really racist. But the quote doesn't come off that way to me. But what do I know I'm at work and unable to watch the video.
- SwordofKahless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8To those that keep referring to the guy as racist. Here are some facts.
- First Presidential candidate to have a black female Vice Presidential candidate, Ezola B. Foster.
- His campaign staff looked like the rainbow coalition with about half of his inner circle being Jewish including a Hasidic rabbi.
Yeah that sure sounds like he is racist. Unbelievable how the uneducated sheep posting here believes whatever piece of propaganda the left feeds them. - gnomon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Are you saying that white countries are by nature bland?
- lidflipper, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Am I reading that wrong? It seems like he is saying that he would rather have 50/50 black and white. I don't know what's racist about that? (NOTE: didn't watch the video, just going by the post.)
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Pat Buchanan: Irrational Bigot Douche bag extraordinaire!
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15"Sertorius and petroK welcome to Block you racist bigots. People like you is what gives America (and digg) a bad name. As for Pat Bigot Buchanan, he needs to be taken off the air and exiled from America."
I hope that quote was sarcasm (as PetroK's was), otherwise you are a hypocrite. Instead being a "racist bigot", this statement paints you as "opinion bigot". Not only do you call them derogatory names, but you blame them for negative aspects of the country and demand they leave. In your quote replace the words "racist" and "bigot" with your favorite racial slurs and suddenly you sound no different than them (actually you sound worse than Pat, at least he didn't resort to name calling).
Racists are misguided and arguably ignorant individuals, but reacting like this to them makes puts you on the same level.
Anyways, I listen to Pat B, David D, and Anne C, as much as I listen to their counterparts on the left. Just ignore them and they will go away. - sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwEd_tcKBfU
Buchanan and Ali G = sandwich war. :) - jscro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I don't know, Pat can make alot of sense to me; especially when talking about geopolitical matters. He has nothing but bad things to say about the Neocon movement, which he said destroyed the right in this country; which I completely agree with. No doubt this is over the top though.
His argument here seems to be "Well it's always been that way, so it should stay that way". Tradition is never a valid argument, for anything. - squarehappy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15@Boelder: Stop relying on the dictionary and use your skills of reading comprehension. Do you think it's possible that not being "mincey" has something to do with not mincing words? Language is dynamic. The dictionary is not a law.
But maybe you're just a troll. - DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@Duffy40: If a white person is born in Africa, and then he moves to America, he is (say it with me!) African-American.
Conversely, if a black person is born in America, they are just American. I've never been to Africa, my parents haven't, nor my grandparents, nor their grandparents, nor anyone as far back as I've been able to trace. My family, or at least the black side of it, all come from Haiti. Well, except for my German great-grandfather. But that's a different story entirely.
I'm not "African-American." I'm just American. Yes, I'm of Haitian, Puerto Rican, German, and Irish descent, but is it really necessary to throw in a race descriptor?
And wigger is the most annoying and racist expression I've heard in recent memory. I get seriously pissed off when people use it, because not only is it derived from a racial slur, but it implies that all black people act a certain way and that the aformentioned set of behaviors is improper for white people. As though some white people can't just genuinely share interests with some black people.
I'm into punk. I'm I a "nacker" or some *****? ***** you. - EatingPie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7And this quote is *often* used by conservatives against "whining liberals."
I think a touche is in order!
-Pie - twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7His statement was taken out of context. (it was wrong, but his intentions weren't what are being depicted)
I believe he was saying that when he grew up he perceived the country was 80-90% white (wrong) and he grew up in a city that was 50% black and 50% white. He thought that was good.
His statement was not bigoted, though full of inaccuracies. His attempt was to portray himself as one who values multiculturalism having lived in a disproportionately balanced (based on total demographics) environment.
Isn't it interesting how someone with an agenda can twist another persons words into something horrible? - tgilber, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@chocobomog: Interestingly, while you trivially rattle off 3 names from the right (as can most folks), I rarely here anyone trivially rattle off 3 names from the left...
- guthier, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Remember the 'red indians'? 0% white people were around in them days...
- soundcore, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11So, why is it ok for India to PASS LAWS saying that it is illegal to hire Americans in India, it’s ok for China and Mexico to keep their borders and economies closed to American workers, but somehow it’s not ok for Americans to want to keep our country closed and preserve our culture.
The fact of the matter is these other countries like Mexico, China, and India see America as a pot of gold waiting to be plundered. They hate us. They perceive us as owing them for British/Spanish colonization (which was good for them by the way).
4 million Americans cannot go flooding into Mexico or China every year and take whatever they want. The Mexicans and Chinese would never stand for it.
So why is it ok for MILLIONS of people from those countries to do the same to America. As the show mentioned, these people remain loyal to their home countries, not to America. All this crap about immigrants come here to help America. They come here to take from America.
America currently exports $165 billion in wages to other countries every year. How much longer before America will be broke?
The 90s and the internet opened up the ability for these other countries to see what the quality of life was like in America. Suddenly after sitting around for decades doing nothing, they suddenly decided they wanted the wealth that the American people created.
Taking what one group of people created and giving it to those who didn’t have to work for it is COMMUNISM.
The fact is each race has their own country. Indians have India, Chinese have China, Mexicans have Mexico. Except for whites and blacks who are the only legitimate races entitled to America.
When these other countries open up and allow mass immigration of Americans to their countries, then we will talk. Otherwise stop yelling about how racist America is.
No Americans Need Apply
Daniel Soong, who lost his programming job to Indian offshore companies, is willing to relocate to India. But Indian officials have told him they don’t hire Americans.
http://www.cio.com/ archive/ 090103/ people_sidebar_1.html
As for "Whites taking everything from the American Indians), that's another "Hate whitey" lie. The American Indians were barbarians as were the Aztecs. Living like animals in huts 1/2 naked, slaughtering each other in endless tribal wars, smoking dope round the clock. No wonder they got conquered. They deserved to be conquered. Besides, the Native Americans were here for centuries before the white man got here. What did the Natives do with the land? Any development? Any civilization? Where would America and indeed the world be if the white man never came to America? No computers, no electricity, no airplanes, no cell phones.
Think about what you are saying before you speak and learn to stop regurgitating the typical media propaganda that has you brainwashed. - amoirae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Remember the 'dinosaurs'? 0% people were around in those days..."
Strom Thurmond was around. He planted the redwoods! - soundcore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Multiculturalism is a lie.
People today look at America and see diversity and assume it has always been that way. The fact is that until 1965, 1990, and 1998 America had very few minorites except blacks.
There is no question blacks are entitled to America just as much (but not more) than whitey because blacks helped build America.
The historical fact is that before 1990 no more than 8% of the American population was foreign-born. You can theorize all you like but that was a fact. After 1990 until today the % stands at 20% - and rising. There has never ever been such a mass influx of foreigners into America as notday - not even in the 1906 and 1920 invasions from Europe.
Past immigration waves also came from silimar cultures and held similar beliefs. That is not happening today. Today we have totally alien cultures like Indian and China emmigranting en masse. There is a difference.
The big lie you hear all the time is "America is a nation of immigrants". NONSENSE! America is a naion *descended* from immigrants. It's IMPOSSIBLE that 8% of the country's population built America from 1492 to 1990. Are we expected to believe that the other 92% of the Evil White Man was sitting around doing nothing while the poor 8% of immigrants built the country. Come on. It's impossible.
America was built by Americans BORN HERE regardless of color. Not by waves of immigrants, whcih have always been shut off in the past because they caused things like the Great Depression.
We will see a mjaor sea change in immigration in the next 10 years. We have to. Otherwise America's jobs and culture will destroyed and we will be easy pickings for the insane of the world like the Chinese General demonstrated to us with his speech. - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9indeed, he is making 2 separate statements. i agree that he still is wrong, but he's not a racist.
- Zaphrod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Am I racist,?
I like the company of white people better than any other race. When i am in the company of other races I feel out of place, I have little in common with them and can rarely find common ground to interact with them on. I dont hate other races and don't feel any superiority of any sort or that I deserve anything they don't, I just like my races company better. - h2d2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I'm an immigrant against an open immigration policy.
I think more people should be allowed to immigrate to the US. But there should be litmus test based on loyalty to America as a nation, education, contribution to the economy and most important (to myself) the desire to assimilate into the American culture, society and language. -
