thinkprogress.org — Last night on Fox, Buchanan told Alan Colmes: "What I would like is -- I ’d like the country I grew up in. It was a good country. I lived in Washington, D.C., 400,000 black folks, 400,000 white folks, in a country 89 or 90 percent white. I like that country." (Video)

- Sertorius, on 10/12/2007, -255/+30I like Pat Buchanan, he's right on!! He's not a waffler. He's not one of those too many mincey, wimpy talking heads that more than enough fill televised media with their bloated-political correct opinions.
- sneakerchad, on 10/12/2007, -27/+118So your a racist bigot who doesn't like anyone who is not white? Or do you just want to "preserve the American culture?" Or do you simply long for the "country you grew up in" which just happened to be 89 or 90% white? Or do you just feel that it is wrong to "change the culture of a country" without it being put to a vote? Or do you just admire raving lunatic old white men with a cranky streak?
- szelij, on 10/12/2007, -67/+4Mmhz...well you have a lot of guns...at least now you know you won't go down without a fight right if there is any attempt at genocide?
- petroK, on 10/12/2007, -23/+81In my day the n------ stayed on their side of the town w/ the sp---. Now I'm liable to run into one of them on the street, with their loud music and...
hey!
hey!
Get off my lawn...
damn kids - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -9/+61"He's not a waffler." didn't he just refuse to give a straight answer 3 times in a row?
- mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -63/+6Woot! Pat Buchanan! FTW!
- qwickone, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33Ok, fine he's not a waffler. He's hateful and bigoted every time he opens his mouth. At least he's consistent. At least we have THAT to be thankful for.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -14/+44""He's not a waffler." didn't he just refuse to give a straight answer 3 times in a row?"
Exactly! He decided not to give an answer, and he stuck by that decision!
That pinko Kerry would have given in the second time. But not my boy bucky! No sir! - cakestick, on 10/12/2007, -56/+6eat poop, merreborn.
- NtHammer, on 10/12/2007, -92/+3its not hateful to be rascist, its very logical a lot of the time.
most people i know that are rascist grew up around ALL white people and whenever they run into black people it not good and you notice how they happily fill every stereotype out there.
or they just grew up around them and found out the hard way how lousy most of them are. - agooga, on 10/12/2007, -30/+13Buchannon brings up some very important issues-- in his own way.
Globalization-- bad for the American worker.
Illegal immigration-- bad for jobs, schools, welfare system, hospitals, etc.
Cultural upheaval-- unknown consequences.
I don't know whether he's a racist or not-- never really listened to him too much-- but we should all think very seriously about the above issues. - boelder, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7Search: "mincy" No entries found. Did you mean: mince, minced, mincer, minces?
Stop watching television. - Gryfft, on 10/12/2007, -11/+36@NThammer-
What. The. *****. - justice7, on 10/12/2007, -29/+9here's the problem
i hate people. I am downright RACIST.
The Human Race is like a disease......
Black, White, Yellow, Green, Brown, Gray, Blue, Neon .. whatever.. still human.. still evil.
People bug me .. a lot.
NOW GET OFF MY LAWN! - wolvyne, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30So I'm assuming Pat wants to ignore the fact that whites took everything from the Indians? Or do we have to go farther back in history to where people where in only a small portion of the world? Freaking racist hypocrite.
- squarehappy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15@Boelder: Stop relying on the dictionary and use your skills of reading comprehension. Do you think it's possible that not being "mincey" has something to do with not mincing words? Language is dynamic. The dictionary is not a law.
But maybe you're just a troll. - twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Pat Buchannon; officially old AND cenile!
- yanks215, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6This post is a good example why you can't write sarcastically:
1. You don't get your point across
2. People generally have no sense of humor on race, religion or politics
Meanwhile, when is the last time Buchanan has been relevant? - cell00, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8Sorry for the quote abuse, but I think everyone should be aware of how the actual quote is:
“What I would like is — I’d like the country I grew up in. It was a good country. I lived in Washington, D.C., 400,000 black folks, 400,000 white folks, in a country 89 or 90 percent white. I like that country.”
In other words; marked as inaccurate.
Also while I'm at it: you racist people gtfo. - justice7, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2people don't have a sense of humor about racism because to put it bluntly, it bothers them.
Either they have been a victim of it or feel guilty about dishing some of it out in the past
personally, i couldn't give to ***** about race, or if someone was discriminating against me...
its because i'm white, isn't it? lol - Skas, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18@Justice
That's not racism, that's misanthropy, or some sort of anti-social disorder. Hating everyone equally is not racist.
On to the subject at hand: Buchanan is a tool. He's one of the problems with America, we have nothing but a bunch of fools in the media or in power.
Examples:
- The internet is a series of tubes
- Centipede is 97% violent
- America was better off when it was 90% white
Solutions to the problem include, but are not limited to:
-Getting out and voting, including primaries
-Not watching networks that are remotely affiliated with idiots like this
-Not watching shows that have idiots like this on them
If things like this *seriously* bother you, go do something about it. - SqueakyMouse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I'm not a racist or anything but I will say this:
White people are harder to see in the snow and black people are harder to see in the dark.
Any other perceived differences seem to be cultural rather than racial. If a black guy grew up under the influence of white culture (whatever that is), he would behave like a white guy and vice versa. This is what seems to be true from my experience, anyway.
I don't see a problem in principle with verbally attacking a culture since it is behavioural and belief oriented, not genetic. For example liberals often attack gun culture and conservatives attack often socialist culture. Disapproving of a person's skin colour however seems grossly unfair and makes little sense to me. - Matteos, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8Truth is, black, white, brown, or green... everyone is racist in there own way.
- h2d2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I'm an immigrant against an open immigration policy.
I think more people should be allowed to immigrate to the US. But there should be litmus test based on loyalty to America as a nation, education, contribution to the economy and most important (to myself) the desire to assimilate into the American culture, society and language. - Ikioi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9What I would like is -- I’d like the country I grew up in. It was a good country. I lived in a country with a strong economy, jobs, no major wars, and under $1 for gasoline. Black folks and white folks, in a country 89 or 90 percent that seemed at least moderately happy. I like that country.
- HoldenMyOwn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5""He's not a waffler." didn't he just refuse to give a straight answer 3 times in a row?"
You have an odd definition of "refuse to give a straight answer"?
Here is the transcript:
"COLMES: All right, but are you saying we should work to keep an 89 percent white country? Is that what you believe we should do?
BUCHANAN: No, no."
I believe he is walking on thin ice & I will not defend him, but he DID answer the question. - agooga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I love how a comment meant to be reasoned and thought provoking gets modded down:
"Globalization-- bad for the American worker.
Illegal immigration-- bad for jobs, schools, welfare system, hospitals, etc.
Cultural upheaval-- unknown consequences.
I don't know whether he's a racist or not-- never really listened to him too much-- but we should all think very seriously about the above issues."
But inane vitriol like "god i hate that guy" gets modded up around here.
Really, people-- you show your unwavering bias so transparently. Time to start thinking critically rather than hating and seeking confirmation of hate.
THAT is what is wrong with America right now. Can we at least act like we're on the same team? - teknopagan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Now, just to be fair - what he said could be interpreted as "I liked the fact that I grew up in a city that was half-white, half-black at a time when the rest of the country was 90% white."
I don't quite get why everyone has to assume the worst possible connotation to everything that could be taken more than one way. - Sertorius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@sneakerchad
Yeah, I like to hang out with my own, but that does not logically make me a racist as you assumed from your narrow-mindedness. Nor does it mean I don't hang out with others not of my race.
I am old enough to know, from my experience, that this is true for most ethinic groups. To deny this is absolute insanity. At the same time, it does not necessarily mean racism.
Have you ever heard the old saying, birds of a feather flock together? Hey man, get real. - Sertorius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@qwickone

I don't have a TV and thus I am more free than you. Second, "mincy" is a neologism I made up. It is an adjective to describe the shredded intellects of those who believe they can think, like you. - Sertorius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@wolvyne
Is that what Pat Buchanan is saying? - Sertorius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@twtme

I hope that quote was sarcasm (as PetroK's was), otherwise you are a hypocrite. Instead being a "racist bigot", this statement paints you as "opinion bigot". Not only do you call them derogatory names, but you blame them for negative aspects of the country and demand they leave. In your quote replace the words "racist" and "bigot" with your favorite racial slurs and suddenly you sound no different than them (actually you sound worse than Pat, at least he didn't resort to name calling).
Racists are misguided and arguably ignorant individuals, but reacting like this to them makes puts you on the same level.
Anyways, I listen to Pat B, David D, and Anne C, as much as I listen to their counterparts on the left. Just ignore them and they will go away. - tgilber, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@chocobomog: Interestingly, while you trivially rattle off 3 names from the right (as can most folks), I rarely here anyone trivially rattle off 3 names from the left...

The man's pretty much irrelevant politically, so why is he being put on? Because his book is so deep and insightful? - davymac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2im with neutrascrub-if he wants to be racist, let him.. let his idiocy speak for itself. As much as I disagree with him, I would never take him off the air unless he incited violence against a group of people.. which he wont
- DigitalOmnivore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ fjvwing
He's won primaries against Bush1 and Dole. He just wrote a book that was #1 on Amazon.com about an issue that both parties agree on, but the American people don't agree with both parties. That is why he was on TV. His statements aren't racist, unless you consider it racist to talk about race.
- neutrascrub, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47ever heard of the first amendment?

Wow, arent you the party of free speech, or is just speech you agree with? Don't bother to answer, it's well documented that conservative speakers get lynched on college campuses. angoulemmy, there is an expression "if you don't like it leave it" maybe your Gov should mention that to the radicals you have running around your country. - sneakerchad, on 10/12/2007, -12/+21Oh here we go again... another wingnut troll who starts to cry because the Republicans are so incredibly persecuted! Boo-*****-hoo! Its okay if they say ***** about people of color but heavens forbid anybody call them on their *****. Cry me a ***** river. - Pacotheparrot, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Wow, way to totally put your foot in your mouth. Even though I think he was trying to say he liked the culture more, that came out terribly.
- EmperorMing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10When reading the blurb for this article it sounded to me like he was saying he liked living in DC with a more even black / white ratio then the rest of the country. If you focus in on just the "a country 89 or 90 percent white. I like that country." part it sounds really racist. But the quote doesn't come off that way to me. But what do I know I'm at work and unable to watch the video.
- pegisys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@EmperorMing, then why mention it at all, and it doesn't make much sense if he was talking about just the black to white ratio considering what else he said
- cdahlkvist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@EmperorMing
That is EXACTLY what he meant. He meant that he liked a country with a more equal ratio of whites and blacks. It's just that the diggies here like to make things out to be something other than what they actually are...it's a short blurb and it's out of context without watching/listening to the full interview.
@pegisys
What else did he say that is so horrible? The fact that he thinks the people should be able to decide (that's called voting) the criteria for preference when it comes to immigration? How is that terrible?
There was a time when the United States was The Great Melting Pot. That time is over. So many countries hate us yet all their people seem to want to come here. We don't have the room.
Furthermore, let's take Somalia as an example. They have been sending us criminals.
This is much akin to the "racist" name WOP that referred to Italians. WOP stands for "Without Papers" because Italy use to send us their criminals without any documentation of who they are so they could assume a new identity.
Immigration shouldn't stop but it does need to be controlled or we will end up with the criminal element of every other country.
As for Buchanan (or me for agreeing with him on this one issue) being a racist. Well, you decide for yourself how you want to label people - which is exactly the same thing racists do, label people.
- MonTemplar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Open mouth... insert foot... chew vigorously.

the thing about all this is, people in my generation (i'm 24) have such little racism that in 30 years when we're the ones running our government, we won't have to deal with backwards ass, racist idiots making the rules. unfortunately now they're making us look bad. - blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I used to think as a teenager that racism was effectively a thing of the past. What actually changed is that the media now at least considers it shameful to be racist. That's already a progress. As opposed to racism being the norm at the beginning of the previous century. But don't you dream too much and imagine the average guy has got any smarter than he was in 1960.

- DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think (or at least hope) he's saying that majority anything countries are bland. What makes America interesting, culturally speaking, is the blend of global cultures that comprise the bulk of our own.

Just yesterday the girl sitting next to me in a chemical engineering group meeting mentioned that she was from Taiwan. It was the beginning of a very interesting conversation. - Buelldozer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Marked Innacurate. This article becomes FAR less inflammatory when you read the SECOND question.
FTFA:
COLMES: All right, but are you saying we should work to keep an 89 percent white country? Is that what you believe we should do?
BUCHANAN: No, no. What I believe is that people should not deliberately alter the character and composition of the country without consulting the American people. If you adopt two children, Alan, you’re going to go in and you’re going to decide who comes. Who should decide who comes and who doesn’t? First, illegals should not come. Secondarily, the American people should be consulted how many immigrants come, what are the criteria. And we haven’t been consulted.- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9indeed, he is making 2 separate statements. i agree that he still is wrong, but he's not a racist.
- PowerCow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5this isnt a democracy, it is a republic, we elect representive to decide what is the proper levels of immigration from various countries, if we dont like what they have done we can vote against them the next time they run.
And what is this crap about adoption, is he sayign i get to decide my own adopted kids, versus not being able to decide what race immagrants i want? And you think that is less racsist?
Or is he saying coupe should only be able to adopt approved races?
I agree with him on illegals, escept we pretty much let them in, but the rest of his dribble is nothing but hate speech and i dont really care how he tones it down or explains it.
Maybe we should just block muslims from coming to this country huh? Or i know lets make them wear a cresent patch so they can be easily identifiable, so tht our people can feel safer. Heck lets move them all to certain cities so we can track them better or maybe a camp or something. - Impetus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Agreed. I can't believe how eager all of you are to take him out of context.
- blamanj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1OK, he's not making a directly racist statement, he's making a crypto-racist statement. Yes, he denies that he doesn't want to go back to a 90% white country, but then he complains that it's not 90% white anymore and that no one gave him a choice. You've got to make the assumption that if he's complaining about it, he doesn't like it.
Plus if he was just worried about illegal aliens, why bring up race at all? The issue of illegal immigration has nothing to do with race, but Pat brought it up anyway. Something about the fact that we're not a 90% white country bothers him enough to mention it. - jdivis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Go buy a brain. The story is _not_ inaccurate, the two statements "Pat would like America to be 90% white." and the statement "Pat would like America to choose its cultural makeup." are not contradictory. The story is NOT in accurate, because in light of the second statement, the first is not slanted.
The title consists of a quote that Pat made, there is no inaccuracy.
- Ascus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Thank god for free speech. It makes it much easier to find out who the idiots are.
- mazurskie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Damn straight.
- guthier, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Remember the 'red indians'? 0% white people were around in them days...
- Rndm_Tngnt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Remember the 'dinosaurs'? 0% people were around in those days...
- amoirae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Remember the 'dinosaurs'? 0% people were around in those days..."
Strom Thurmond was around. He planted the redwoods!
- IcerC, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6I agree that we can't just let everyone in.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7That's not what he is saying. Listen carefully, he is saying we should base our decisions on the content of the person's national or racial background.
- lidflipper, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Am I reading that wrong? It seems like he is saying that he would rather have 50/50 black and white. I don't know what's racist about that? (NOTE: didn't watch the video, just going by the post.)
- Wooism, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I think I agree with lidflipper. I can't watch the vid since i'm at work, so I don't know what precluded and followed this statement, but by the quote alone he says he misses the old days, then says where he grew up was 50/50 white/black even thought the rest of the country was not. Isn't he saying he liked how it was for him growing up, the 50/50?
- mrcan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Exactly, this is a typical American thing to do, take only half the comment. He is referring to the fact that he enjoyed living in a city that was 50/50 despite the fact that the rest of the country was more along the lines of 90% white. I in no way support this guy, I just want to point out what he is actually saying.
- EmperorMing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Also at work, also didn't find the racism.
- wistar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8This is how I interpreted it as well, that he liked the oasis of evenly mixed race in an otherwise nearly white desert. I can't watch the video, either, but it seemed like the article was taking things out of their context.
That said, Buchanan doesn't exactly come across as a great friend of tolerance.
- robot1122, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4it isn't blacks, and no i will not say 'african american' because whites can be african american too, latinos or anyone else that is killing america. now, what is killing america is ignorant people like Buchanan. oh, and don't forget about "them gangster people," who are white too... those guys kill america.
- Duffy40, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2How can a white person be African American, come on someone tell me please, that can't be true, is that like some feel good statement by a Wigger, WTF
- i6koi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There are a lot of people (in places like South Africa, for example) who are caucasian but born and brought up in Africa. They can then move to America and obtain citizenship; thus: "African-American," but white.
- MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4For ex, there are white people in South Africa
- DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@Duffy40: If a white person is born in Africa, and then he moves to America, he is (say it with me!) African-American.
Conversely, if a black person is born in America, they are just American. I've never been to Africa, my parents haven't, nor my grandparents, nor their grandparents, nor anyone as far back as I've been able to trace. My family, or at least the black side of it, all come from Haiti. Well, except for my German great-grandfather. But that's a different story entirely.
I'm not "African-American." I'm just American. Yes, I'm of Haitian, Puerto Rican, German, and Irish descent, but is it really necessary to throw in a race descriptor?
And wigger is the most annoying and racist expression I've heard in recent memory. I get seriously ***** off when people use it, because not only is it derived from a racial slur, but it implies that all black people act a certain way and that the aformentioned set of behaviors is improper for white people. As though some white people can't just genuinely share interests with some black people.
I'm into punk. I'm I a "nacker" or some *****? ***** you. - DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Damn editing system only working once. I meant to say, "Am I..." not, "I'm I..."
- chiznalli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whites can be African American, if they are citizens of Africa, and migrated to America. I am Black ( and for those who are ignorant, Black is a mixed race of people). My father is Black, my grandmother is 50% Cherokee, 25% Black, and 25% Irish. However, I consider myself a Black American. A very good friend of mine is Nigerian, and came to America at the age of 14. HE is an African-American. A co-worker of mine (who is clearly Caucasian) grew up in South Africa, and has American citizenship - HE is African-American. It was once said (and no I don't have the exact quote) that if Blacks were descendants of any other country, we would be considered simply 'American', given the tremendous contribution we have made to this country.
- Duffy40, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0They are then AFRIKAANS, Boer Dutch, not African American.
Even I know that African American specifically applies to the descendents of or inheritors to the Culture of Africans Brought to America as slaves. Part of the definition of African American is the historical experiance of Slavery and post emancipation racism.
Do people know any African Americans. Why don't you reformed peckerheads try that line of crap on them. And for any of you psuedo-intellectuals who come up with convulated logic, tell me what i mean by reformed peckerheads. - Duffy40, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Nah Wigger is just another way to to say hey your appropriating someones culture when you have not been prepared to understand the context of anything you say. Which is just one step beyond a wanna-be.
OK Dog
Its not racist, its a description of someone suffering from RIC syndrome - DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am black, so yeah, I think I would know. And since I was the one creating that train of logic, I think I'd follow it pretty well, you presumptuous bastard.
- insanitarium, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Buchanan should be allowed to say these things, wrong or not. Now I'm willing to believe that this particular statement came out wrong, but still. If I'm not mistaken he used to be a pretty high ranking klansmen.
- nodong, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Pat is as quaint as a lawn jocky. Nobody should fret over what he says. Culture will change and all these freaky, white fundamentalists will pass away as footnotes in the history of an archaic and barbaric past--along with war and poverty... except for gang wars and self-induced "cool" poverty.
- Wooism, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2wtf is a self-induced "cool" poverty. If that exists I should be on the MTVz
- EmperorMing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ummm is it spending all your money on cool products so then you can't buy food?
- Duffy40, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Povert in America is about being inept. period
and like the man says, i wanna go to a country where the poor peoplehave Color TV and a problem with being overweight
- HarryBauzonia, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10The host phrased the question, and when asked if that's what he believed, Buchanan said "no no". Did any of you children catch that little tidbit?
The issue being discussed was immigration, not the preferred racial makeup of the country. Mr. Colmes was trying to trip up the guy's points on immigration by baiting him with racially charged questions. The chopping up of the entire video makes it seem otherwise.
I have to tag this one as inaccurate. Especially considering that the link is to a left-wing propaganda site. - bgoodknight, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4I agree with him 100%.
- nodong, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Somehow I think that I'm going to like America better in 2050.

- PowerCow, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Nice to have the rascist on digg come here and announce their racsism
now if we can only stop them from breeding
Just fyi, there is no scienctific description of race, we are more simular than any two flys you find arround a garbage can.
Oh you can track genetics and say this guy came from this area etc, but you can not say.. these genes make you a black man, these genes make you asian... there is no "line"- Duffy40, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2LOL, one race
as much as some would like to disown others, only one race, homo Sapiens, However, if I was to use the Extreme Environmentalist methodology of Specification, there are several hundred different species of Humanity.
For instance, in Tennessee, the rising rate of income is threatening the environments of the several human species including the once abundant Cracker, and the loss of several hundred square miles of trailer parks is threatening the Trailer Park Trash, a related species.....
- Duffy40, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2LOL, one race
- sploozo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4For the record, I think Buchanan is a total Douchebag, but I think the heading here is taken outta context.
He seems to be saying that the there should be legislation on the number of immigrants allowed into the country. I don't think that is necessarily racist, but truth beknown, Buchanan probably is. - rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0he's just dumb, ive seen less serious stuff get public people fired.
- whiteyMcBrown, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I live in Ottawa, Canada. I agree that it's better up here, but there's still a lot of racism by people who don't think it's actually racism. A term that's been floating around a lot lately has been 'non-white'. It's used a lot by a lot of people who say that white people are now the minority. Don't get it twisted- This is the new way of saying coloured. Somehow, as an East Indian guy, I'm grouped together with black people, east asian people, inuit people, and middle easterners. Thankfully, it seems like things are getting better, but it's going far too slowly for my liking.
- vault, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Even though he is a racist, the title is taken out of context to seem more controversial..he qualified what he was saying right before that.
When asked if he'd prefer only white immigrants, he said no. Then he said he grew up in Washington DC, and there were 400,000 white people, 400,000 black people, in a country 90% white. He said he liked the country he grew up in...and then when asked if he wanted to work to keep a 90% white country, he said no. - twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7His statement was taken out of context. (it was wrong, but his intentions weren't what are being depicted)
I believe he was saying that when he grew up he perceived the country was 80-90% white (wrong) and he grew up in a city that was 50% black and 50% white. He thought that was good.
His statement was not bigoted, though full of inaccuracies. His attempt was to portray himself as one who values multiculturalism having lived in a disproportionately balanced (based on total demographics) environment.
Isn't it interesting how someone with an agenda can twist another persons words into something horrible? - rkenward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well, then again you also have your neighborhoods of all black people, or all white people or all Hispanic people - I feel awkward when I'm in the black and Hispanic neighborhoods I imagine it goes both ways. Rather than having them separated they should be integrated together, it would force people to interact and get along with each other rather than carry on with their perceptions of the other races. There are good and bad people of every race.
- MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's usually the higher middle class caucasian families that move out of parts that may become all black, all hispanic, or all black AND hispanic. For ex, I believe that Compton was full of caucasians at one point?
- garg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2ah... i remember the good old days when this country was 100% red skinned.

- Tuplex, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I for one agree with Mr. Buchanan.
- alfredn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6The real problem is that America is just letting too many people in. I think it's time to shut down immigration, especially with "terror" lurking in our nation.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I's all BS - did we ask the native Americans when the europeans changed the face of their country?
- KickStart, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1All we need is a voluntary, free-spirited, open-ended program of procreative racial deconstruction. Everybody just gotta keep *****' everybody 'til they're all the same color.
- seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2oh man, is thread a great way to weed out the trolls, bigots, and otherwise obnoxious thread posters.
bu,bu,bu,BLOCKED! - soundcore, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11So, why is it ok for India to PASS LAWS saying that it is illegal to hire Americans in India, it’s ok for China and Mexico to keep their borders and economies closed to American workers, but somehow it’s not ok for Americans to want to keep our country closed and preserve our culture.
The fact of the matter is these other countries like Mexico, China, and India see America as a pot of gold waiting to be plundered. They hate us. They perceive us as owing them for British/Spanish colonization (which was good for them by the way).
4 million Americans cannot go flooding into Mexico or China every year and take whatever they want. The Mexicans and Chinese would never stand for it.
So why is it ok for MILLIONS of people from those countries to do the same to America. As the show mentioned, these people remain loyal to their home countries, not to America. All this crap about immigrants come here to help America. They come here to take from America.
America currently exports $165 billion in wages to other countries every year. How much longer before America will be broke?
The 90s and the internet opened up the ability for these other countries to see what the quality of life was like in America. Suddenly after sitting around for decades doing nothing, they suddenly decided they wanted the wealth that the American people created.
Taking what one group of people created and giving it to those who didn’t have to work for it is COMMUNISM.
The fact is each race has their own country. Indians have India, Chinese have China, Mexicans have Mexico. Except for whites and blacks who are the only legitimate races entitled to America.
When these other countries open up and allow mass immigration of Americans to their countries, then we will talk. Otherwise stop yelling about how racist America is.
No Americans Need Apply
Daniel Soong, who lost his programming job to Indian offshore companies, is willing to relocate to India. But Indian officials have told him they don’t hire Americans.

As for "Whites taking everything from the American Indians), that's another "Hate whitey" lie. The American Indians were barbarians as were the Aztecs. Living like animals in huts 1/2 naked, slaughtering each other in endless tribal wars, smoking dope round the clock. No wonder they got conquered. They deserved to be conquered. Besides, the Native Americans were here for centuries before the white man got here. What did the Natives do with the land? Any development? Any civilization? Where would America and indeed the world be if the white man never came to America? No computers, no electricity, no airplanes, no cell phones.
Think about what you are saying before you speak and learn to stop regurgitating the typical media propaganda that has you brainwashed.- gnomon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3While I don't quite agree with your rationale behind the justification of the slaughter of the natives of America, I would like to point out that they were not entirely peaceful and nor were they the first inhabitants of the continent (they too were conquerors). C'est la vie.
- cdahlkvist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@soundcore
I wish there was a SUPER digg option. You hit the nail on the head! - Duffy40, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You are not gonna win many friends here.
But I dug you
And there is no need for an explanation for the conquest of the Americas, no more than there is an explanation for any other conquest. The Cherokees, Navajo, Siuox fared better than the Sabians, Vandels, Dhummoni, or the Latins. At least the former still have a cultural identity. Any body tell me where the latter tribes are, or where they were located?
- jonj, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1america has NEVER been 90% white, except for maybe when the first boat of pilgrims arrived.
