- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -0/+8Excellent article. The corporate media's pro-Georgia propaganda isn't fooling anyone with open eyes. Georgia is quickly shaping up to be the Israel of the Caucasus. Like Israel, they started out pledging their loyalty to the US in exchange for military and economic aid, and, like Israel, they'll soon be receiving billions of dollars in "loans" that they will make a profit on and the US taxpayers will pay interest on.
Americans would do well to take to heart Jefferson's advice about entangling alliances and global intrigue. Once quasi-useful "henchman states" like Israel and Georgia get on the payroll, they never leave, and they use the proceeds to set up lobbies that buy everyone in Congress. The henchmen end up running the mob. - inactive, on 08/15/2008, -0/+5FTA: But did we not authorize Israel to bomb Lebanon for 35 days in response to a border skirmish where several Israel soldiers were killed and two captured? Was that not many times more "disproportionate"?
Russia has invaded a sovereign country, railed Bush. But did not the United States bomb Serbia for 78 days and invade to force it to surrender a province, Kosovo, to which Serbia had a far greater historic claim than Georgia had to Abkhazia or South Ossetia, BOTH OF WHICH PREFER MOSCOW to Tbilisi? - Soughtout, on 08/15/2008, -0/+3Rarely do I find myself in agreement with Pat Buchanan. However, Buchanan's intellectual prowess and astute political discernment is undeniable. On the matter of Russia's response to Saakashvili's provocative and stupid stunt, Buchanan has hit the proverbial nail on the head. His analysis and insight into this matter and his assessment of the Cheney-Bush- McCain effort to foster anti-Russian sentiment is accurate and should be taken seriously when deciding which candidate to elect as America's next president.
- BabyWookie, on 08/15/2008, -0/+3Awesome... Just awesome!
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+2I am certainly glad to see that there is still at least one honest American who remembers history as it happens without spin.
FTA - "Americans have many fine qualities. A capacity to see ourselves as others see us is not high among them." - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1FTA: "Are secessions and the dissolution of nations laudable only when they advance the agenda of the neocons, many of whom viscerally detest Russia?"
For those seeking to clarify what Pat means, this article provides some excellent insight:

Indeed, friend Pat. American exceptionalism is one of our worst traits.
