Blame it on Big Oil? No! Blame it on Congress!
worldnetdaily.com — The attempt to blame rising gas prices on windfall profit-taking by the big oil companies is misplaced. Even if that were the case, the solution would be simple. Buy oil company stocks! Then, any rise in gas prices would be offset by the profits in your portfolio. But it is not the case. It is because of limitations on extracting oil in the U.S.

- cashman57, on 05/08/2008, -0/+16Since the '70s the Democrats in Congress have stopped all refinery construction and severely limited drilling operations.
Whe Pelosi was sworn in as Speaker of the House she promised to bring gas prices down.
And they wonder why the Democrat led Congress has the worst approval rating in history??- inboxnews, on 05/08/2008, -0/+8And they wonder why the Democrat led Congress has the worst approval rating in history?
Actually, I don't think they care. Furthermore, it appears as if their sheep will increase their numbers in the fall. Tragedy, really.

- kirralin23, on 05/08/2008, -0/+11A few years back environmental wackos managed to prevent oil drilling at a site in Utah because it would have an impact on 6-8 big horned sheep. It wouldn't kill the sheep or stop them from breeding, it would impact them. Kind of like it impacts me when my neighbor's dog barks. I'm not harmed by it, but I do hear it, thus impact. I'm also impacted by everyone who drives a car past my house. Should we ban everyone from driving past my house because it "impacts" me? This ban on drilling is ridiculous. Utah then proceeded to issue hunting licenses for big horned sheep. These very sheep who would be impacted by drilling were available for hunting. Huh! That makes a lot of sense!!
Big oil has proven they can drill leaving behind almost no change in the environment they drill in once they leave. The Alaskan pipe line, which the environmental idiots tried to prevent because they said it would kill the caribou, has actually resulted in increased caribou population. Polar bears eat caribou. Clearly, if you want to protect the polar bear the answer is to allow more drilling and keep that pipeline running.
Many people seem to forget that human beings are naturally occurring. We are not space aliens who have entered into this environment unnaturally and are destroying it. It is natural for humans to impact their environment. Clearly wiping out entire species is a horrible, disastrous thing to do. But changing our environment to better suit us, like building homes to live in, drilling for oil and building nuclear power plants is the proper and natural thing for us to do. - soulwarriorone, on 05/09/2008, -0/+5if only our folks would wake up!! - InRussetShadows, on 05/09/2008, -0/+4I honestly don't care how much a company makes. All I care about is how much they charge me. Open up more areas to drilling, build more refineries, and reduce government taxes on oil production and exploration. That's a common-sense start. Punishing the successful never works.
- IconoclastStill, on 05/09/2008, -0/+5When one looks at today's price of crude based on the commodity market prices vs. the price of crude only a few years ago, it is abundantly clear the producing nations and commodity traders are the ones profiting from the inflated prices. Sure, the oil companies have record profits in gross numbers, but as a percentage of sales or relative to costs? No. As long as the bandits in the Middle East and the commodity manipulators can arrange the supply so it is a sellers' market, we are screwed. We need to exploit our domestic resources NOW while creating alternative, renewable sources (algae-based bio diesel seems to over the best choice) so we can free ourselves of dependence on foreign sources and market manipulators.
