- tofupup, on 09/01/2008, -25/+378The irony is that it shouldn't matter if it's Bristol's baby. It's social conservatives like Palin who have stigmatized sex and therefore made a cover-up like this necessary. (Palin supports abstinence-only sex education.)
- cbjustice, on 09/01/2008, -32/+311Moral of the story: use a condom when screwing the crazy pro-life governor's daughter.
McCain talks about Obama as a celebrity, and now his VP's daughter is the new Jamie Lynn Spears. - cerases, on 09/01/2008, -31/+222Where there's smoke, there's fire. I remember people jumping up and down to deny the Edwards fiasco too, until he was forced to admit to it. Sometimes a coincidence is a coincidence, but there are just one too many "coincidences" here in this story that makes a person scratch their head.
I for one am anxious for a few reporters to sink their teeth into this. - inactive, on 09/01/2008, -6/+146I DON'T NEED ANY MORE CONSPIRATORY STORIES ENDING IN "GATE"
Sorry for the caps. I'm just that adamant. - blinkgreen, on 09/01/2008, -44/+168Just to be fair (and I will be voting for Obama). I have to say that my sister recently had a baby and she didn't really start to get big until after 7.5 or 8 month mark (which is when the baby starts to grow exponentially after development). Some people have babies and it shows right in front. Others (like my sister) kind of made a spare tire to where if she wore a jacket you couldn't really tell (and by sitting the way Palin did, doesn't do anything). Except for the people she worked with (who knew), her customers had no idea until she took her lab coat off. And according to doctors, she was in the normal range. It might be that Palin just had an under-weight baby and also it said that the baby was a month early. But, I do think it is really stupid and irresponsible that she did fly to hear that speech. It almost seemed that she wanted to abort the baby (without getting an abortion since she is anti-abortion). I think that should be the real story!
- tomnite, on 09/01/2008, -15/+110I think everybody better leave this story alone - check out the picture here: (she looks pretty damned pregnant!)

This has been debunked more than a few times by now... you idiots will believe anything.

In addition, there are first hand accounts of people seeing that she was pregnant in April 2008...

"Of course I had to check out the “Hottest Governor in the US” and quickly turned to see her pregnant (she has since had her baby) with bags and daughter in tote."
Oh wait, she must have been wearing the Haliburton Pregnant Suit w/ realistic baby kicking action? - Ianki, on 09/01/2008, -12/+93Sorry, but she was pregnant. We can drop the whole thing now and stop looking like idiots. It's unbecoming, and no better than unsubstantial character assassination against Obama.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/30076181@N02/28141998 ... - underthematrix, on 09/01/2008, -57/+129I'm sorry but I believe the baby is Palin's grandchild. The picture of the daughter in the long sleeve green top looks like a baby bump, if you notice her belly starts just above the top of the vaginal line and rounds up to the lower rib cage. My niece who is extremely petite, sz 0, initially carried her baby in her hips so her stomach was flat but at seven months, you could tell she was pregnant. If Palin had a baby at 44, she would be large with a filled out face.
I really think it's her daughter's baby. Also, the way, the daughter holds the baby and smiles while she's holding him says it's hers and the Palin is the grandmother, not the mother.
What does it say about her real values. Yes, she's ambitious but she can't seem to take care of business at home. And why would a teenage girl give birth to a down baby. That seems unusual unless the girl didn't get any prenatal care and was taking drugs an/or drinking alcohol.
I don't think the girl told her mother until she was about 6.5 months into the pregnancy. But the fact that Palin could stand up in front of everyone and just lie really speaks to what hypocrites the conservatives really are. Just ask Larry Craig. - gtluke, on 09/01/2008, -8/+65digg has resorted to tin foil hat politics
- BlueFranco, on 09/01/2008, -21/+79Andrew Sullivan says the story is becoming deafening....his word not mine
- MacEnvy, on 09/01/2008, -1/+58I've been an amateur gynecologist since the age of 13. I've been meaning to go pro, but it's all so political. Hard to get on the circuit.
- coboman, on 09/01/2008, -9/+67Please don't bring Obama into this.
His campaign is supposed to be above personal attacks. - RikkiTikki, on 09/01/2008, -9/+49I doubt many diggers watch Desperate Housewives, but this storyline is from last season. If Palin watched it, she'd know she at least needs fake baby bumps to wear and send her daughter to a convent, but tell everyone she's at boarding school in Switzerland.
- bebe67, on 09/01/2008, -16/+58Seriously? I do not get the "did it to protect her daughter" In what world does taking a teenager out of school for 5 months so she wouldn't be embarrassed by her own failure to practice what she preached. Yeah that abstinence education worked for the Palin family. Are we seriously at a point that even something that comes straight out of desperate housewives not making people enraged!? Unless the birth certificate has the true mom on it, she's guilty of committing fraud! This is so outrageous I cannot believe that we are even here. There were many many qualified women he could have picked for this position, just shows the poor judgement of John Mccain!
Is that what we want, another Dick Cheney, Cover ups no matter what? If she could do this to her own daughter for her status of government what wont she do to protect her convictions being #2! T his lady is so pro-life she's no choice doesn't even support abortions because of incest or rape!
Disgusting - barktwiggs, on 09/01/2008, -13/+53I find it amazing that the same Kos Kids, who wouldn't admit the Edwards affair scandal with blatant evidence looking them in the face, are now playing connect the dots with the most spurious of circumstantial evidence! Did it ever occur to them that not all pregnancies carry the same way, even for the same woman? Please continue making fools of yourselves and alienating moderate voters.
- sfrench, on 09/01/2008, -30/+69In all seriousness, what does such a story contribute to any sort of political discourse? Even if this was true, wouldn't our time be better served actually discussing her voting history, or stated positions on matters like gun control, social services, or the budget?
Every second we spend discussing this stuff is one we don't spend discussing actual, substantive issues.
And yes, I realize I fed right into the hype machine by even posting this response. - Anogar, on 09/01/2008, -7/+42The thing is we have pictures of her with previous children, and she gets huge. Your sister had what I assume was her first child, in which case it isn't rare for the mother not to show quite as much, but in subsequent pregnancies it's much harder to hide.
- jeebodon, on 09/01/2008, -14/+46"I put on my robe and tinfoil hat"
- bossm4n, on 09/01/2008, -7/+36Except the photo all this ***** is based on, was taken in 2006 where it was published in the Anchorage Daily News. So unless she had a gestation period of more than two years, your whole ***** crazy conspiracy is blown to hell, as it should be.

- UrbanVoyeur, on 09/01/2008, -5/+30Trig was 6.5 lbs at birth. A normal birth weight for a full term child and rather large for a 7.5 month premie. I doubt you could hide a bump that large.
- ericjohnson0, on 09/01/2008, -5/+30DailyKOS has already retracted the story... ha ha ha.

I guess more folks than just Riley Jones at the saloon wanted to see them SUED for this slanderous crap. I also think someone from Obama/ Biden told them to 'knock it off' because the McCain camp was actually enjoying watching the Left implode. Attacking a 16 year old and woman who just gave birth to a special needs baby? Low AND petty.
Conservatives are lovin' it. - MacBigot, on 09/01/2008, -51/+75This "Babygate" nonsense is libelous, and five minutes of searching Google proves it…
ANCHORAGE DAILY NEWS 4/22/08: Gov. Palin denied being in labor on her flight from Dallas. "Palin said she felt fine but had leaked amniotic fluid and also felt some contractions that seemed different from the false labor she had been having for months." Palin's own physician, Cathy Baldwin-Johnson, confirms she "had to induce labor…" Friday in Alaska and that Trig is SARAH's child.
http://digg.com/political_opinion/Gov_Palin_s_Doc_ ... - flashboy131, on 09/01/2008, -0/+22you really dont know how it works do you?
- redlantern64, on 09/01/2008, -1/+23I hate when ***** like swiftboating or "Obama is a muslim" gets flung at my candidate of choice, and I ESPECIALLY hate when my party flings this ***** back at them. We need to be above this kind of crap.
- skinfitz, on 09/01/2008, -2/+22...but when was it taken?
- barktwiggs, on 09/01/2008, -5/+25Having been married to a woman and seen 3 different pregnancies up close, every pregnancy can be different. Also, the baby was slightly premature, so this last pregnancy she wouldn't have shown how she looks full term. Geez, since when did everyone become amatuer gynocologists?
- fenderjazz, on 09/01/2008, -2/+22Hehehe. So the entire internet just accused a sixteen year-old girl of being pregnant because she was kinda fat at the time.
Self-esteem: destroyed. - barktwiggs, on 09/01/2008, -2/+20How dare she follow the advice of her doctor who ok'd the plane trip. Seriously folks, you're crying fake pregnancy one end and then terrible mother at the other. It's like you have to cover all your smear contingencies.
- Jauladeoro, on 09/01/2008, -0/+17Let the tabloids do the dirty work. Whether it's true or not, aggressively chasing this story reflects badly on all of us.
BURIED.
Obama/Biden - bearsfan4sho, on 09/01/2008, -0/+17Its embarrassing calling myself liberal and therefore being associated with websites like the dailykos. This is tabloid ***** and coming to a conclusion based on 4 pictures and a little bit of a strange labor story is absurd. I hate the talkshow and website nuts on the right, but im more embarrassed by the talkshow and website nuts on the left. It does a disservice to everyone fighting for postive change in the world to make attacks like this without ANY real evidence.
- Mpwns, on 09/01/2008, -11/+27because we the people want to know if she is a liar or a careless mother. bush aside, do we want a careless person or a liar in the white house?
- iheartcrack, on 09/01/2008, -28/+43Even the religious fanatics are throwing her overboard on this thing:
http://digg.com/political_opinion/Ultra_Right_Wing ... - ryan83189, on 09/01/2008, -7/+22Congratulations on (falsely?) accusing a dignified woman of a sham pregnancy and calling into question the chastity of a young woman, thus dragging a family through the dirt over rumors and anecdotal evidence, all for your political gain. You have out done yourselves by stooping to a new low and digging this *****. I can't wait until the weekend is over and light is shed on this ***** storm, these smear sites will get their comeupins. Libel perfectly describes what these websites did and you ***** ate it right up. In a just world they, and the crazies who dugg this garbage reporting would be the only ones to lose credibility, but this kind of thing comes back to bite the whole party in the ass, and given the scope of these lies, that bite is going to be huge. I would not be surprised if it was a trap set by John McCain himself and you idiots fell for it hook, line and sinker. Steal Obama's thunder from the speech, have the lies spread over a holiday weekend, with a hurricane, and by Tuesday, the truth prevails and Republicans come out on top, perfect.
- 17999, on 09/01/2008, -5/+20Daily Kos just went down in the annals of the Internet as having claimed, to the point of retirement, the term: Pack of Douchebags.
It is finished. No one else can ever, truly be a douchebag after these guys. - cmschmidt, on 09/01/2008, -2/+16It's scandals like this that let us see the true character of politicians...They do a good job of hiding what they are truly like, but now we are able to see just how poor her judgment really is.
- mikelieman, on 09/01/2008, -0/+14"ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) -- Bristol Palin, the 17-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin, is pregnant and will keep the baby and marry the father, a senior aide to Sen. John McCain confirmed to CNN Tuesday."
TUESDAY?
/me looks at Calendar.... - iamichi, on 11/12/2008, -2/+16Her hands look like the hands of someone in their 40s in that photo. She also looks the same as other current photos, so I doubt that she is pregnant with her 4th child in that photo, so it must be either Trig or a strap on bump.
- badlogik, on 09/01/2008, -2/+16I would actually agree with you also, if we weren't talking about the VP for the party that impeached Clinton for his own private affairs. "Private" doesn't mean the same thing when it comes to leadership, it seems.
Besides, if she did travel 22+ hours (by plane even) instead of at least first going to a local hospital after going into labor a month early, it shows terrible judgment in time of crisis. - zoethebitch, on 09/01/2008, -1/+15Look at the "additional information" to the right of that flickr photo for the date the picture was taken. 2005? How does that refute anything?
- Netives, on 09/01/2008, -2/+16This is so absurd. Seriously, if your going to manufacture a controversy, using photos from the time in question would be far more effective, than showing a "baby" bump on Bristol Palin in 2006. what's more, it clear in the last fw months of the pregnancy, Sarah Palin is always wearing loose fitting clothing, something that has been done for countless years in order to hide outward appearances of pregnancy.
Of course, its funny to see the people who complained about the baseless Obama is a muslim stories promote this. - acis1, on 09/01/2008, -3/+18i thought it was plots that thicken.
- john2kx, on 09/01/2008, -3/+17I dugg you up because it's sad that people know who Jamie Lynn Spears is or care about her issues.
- falser, on 09/01/2008, -6/+20That article quotes Palin as the source of the story. That isn't exactly investigative journalism. Do you honestly believe he word of an elected republican right-wing official?
- BowieX, on 09/01/2008, -3/+16Unsubstantial counter-argument
- fracaso089, on 09/01/2008, -3/+16can't we get past adding -gate to the end of something to name a scandal?
BE MORE ORIGINAL!!! - yaddayaddayoda, on 09/01/2008, -0/+13It was taken on the last day of the legislature, this year, April 13, 2008. It could be confirmed by asking the TV station, KTVA 11 (CBS) in Juneau. The baby was born about 5 days later, IIRC.
- vat0r, on 09/01/2008, -8/+19She has "five" children and there is no way to verify the date of your "debunking" photo. On the other hand there is at least a tentative time line that qualifies reason for speculation. At the very least Palin and her family must be vetted in the public arena. There is no question about it. After all the hoops we've made the other candidates jump through, it's only fair.
