- JimmySpaza, on 05/11/2008, -19/+7Most people, regardless of their religious and political affiliation, never riot, get violent, or even complain. Most people simply go about their lives peacefully.
And if you don't think that atheists ever riot, you might be right. But, many of them have killed tens of millions of people. Pol Pot, Stalin, Hitler, and Mao tse-Tung. Technically, not a riot, but certainly more devastating.
Shall we dispense with the holier-than-thou attitude, atheist Covertress?- Canuk, on 05/11/2008, -3/+15You’ve got a bunch of communists there who are usually atheist but then you throw in Hitler who was a devout Roman Catholic (according to him he was doing the lords work) so I’m not sure what your point is.
People who want to riot and destroy don’t need religion or lack thereof as a reason.- str3ama, on 05/11/2008, -5/+2well said, it's true - people riot just for the hell of it, when the fear of punishment goes out the window - you really don't need a reason to be as destructive as you want (hell the proof is in the internet)

- dmac41, on 05/11/2008, -1/+14Violent people will always find a reason to kill each other. Religion, political standing, etc are just excuses.
- Daz3, on 05/11/2008, -5/+16The people you mentioned did not kill in the name of Atheism. Your arguments are tired.
- JimmySpaza, on 05/11/2008, -11/+7But, they did NOT have a moral problem with murdering millions BECAUSE of their atheistic worldview. At least when a Christian commits an atrocity, he KNOWS it is wrong deep down inside and does so in spite of Biblical principles.
- eir574, on 05/13/2008, -0/+10Because that's so much better?
I suppose there's no point in rehashing the conversation about how incredibly wrong you are that atheists have no way to know right from wrong. No matter how many times it's discussed, you start right back at the beginning. Have you not noticed that the vast majority of atheists don't run around killing people? Do you not believe the atheists on digg who have explained to you over and over again that we have ways of differentiating between right and wrong? Do you see our reasoning and think it makes sense, but that we choose to ignore it? Do you think it doesn't make sense? Do you seriously not get that I understand that if I don't deny myself the right to kill you, then I can't expect you to refrain from killing me?
I was recently in a conversation with someone who says that atheists routinely attack her very humanity because she's a Christian. You're doing the same thing. Atheists are subhuman because they can't tell right from wrong and would quickly destroy society through their violence if not held back by Christians. Is that really your position? - alkajazz, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7"At least when a Christian commits an atrocity, he KNOWS it is wrong deep down inside and does so in spite of Biblical principles." But then remembers that the moral dilemma is moot because he can just ask for forgiveness. I love how that works, don't you?
- Phyraxus, on 05/13/2008, -1/+8Christians killed "witches" because their theistic world view. They had no qualms committing this atrocity, in fact, their theistic world view PROMOTED this action. The atheistic world view does not promote anything.
- StaticThunder, on 05/13/2008, -1/+7I'm not sure I should bother responding to a lunatic. People have lots of reasons for killing. Atheism is probably not one of them. Christianity doesn't stop murders from happening, as one can see by looking at the population of lifers in prisons.
But, even if (REALLY BIG IF) Atheism is the cause of the killings, its an appeal to consequences. It doesn't mean the atheists aren't correct and would just mean we need to find a way to be moral. It doesn't mean automatically that some subsect of Christianity is the Truth and the Way.

- Squidwalk, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3Your argument is based on the fallacy that faith in Christianity is necessary for non-violent morality. I can think of a couple Asian religions that are great at non-violence. Furthermore, your argument assumes that violence is necessary to atheism. Perhaps you don't understand how little is involved in atheism. It's not "doing" something, it's a disbelief. It is morally neutral.
In addition to Hilter (why does he always have to come up in web forums?) as Canuk stated, there's also plenty of other instances of violence-in-the-name-of-Christ. Historically, there were the Crusades and the Inquisition. There was the institution of slavery, and there still are the murders of groups that different churches dislike, such as minorities, homosexuals, immigrants, and abortion workers. It's not reasonable to blame any of these on Christ though, these killers are just Christians with murderous motivations.
Some death you can chalk up directly to the church is the death associated with the opposition of contraception in locations with many dangerous STDs. It's pretty apparent that abstinence only education does not work. When churches discourage contraception as a form of protection from illness, it is almost as bad as the church spreading the illness. There's a lot of blood on Pope Benedict XVI's hands for declaring contraception a deadly sin.

- Jrepass, on 05/11/2008, -2/+5 Wow, so does that mean that Atheists are offended by nobody? It's like my eyes have been opened...
- Daz3, on 05/11/2008, -2/+9Atheists don't get offended by depictions or insults about their beliefs; mainly due to the fact that the position of atheism is justifiable and rational.

- flip2trip, on 05/13/2008, -6/+5The title should be "Atheists are a Riot"---cause they make me laugh.
- StaticThunder, on 05/13/2008, -1/+7Then why do you always seem so angry whenever you talk to them?
- flip2trip, on 05/13/2008, -2/+4I always seem angry? Believe me, I'm not angry. Perhaps you perceive anger in my statements or put that connotation inadvertently on my statements when you read them?
- Nannybell, on 05/14/2008, -2/+5You've seemed angry a time or two (or three or four) yourself, ST.
