- michaelpinto, on 07/14/2009, -3/+32Blinker from here in NYC I can tell you that Bloomberg is just doing this to distract the public from his lack of basic planning for the recession: Property taxes have gone up hurting business here (including yours truly), the subway now costs $2.25 per ride, nothing has been done about ground zero site which collects dust, and earlier this year King Mike got rid of term limits without allowing the public to vote on it. Besides if Bloomie is so "upset" with Hillary why did he just hire her buddy Howard Wolfson who was her Communications Director on her '08 campaign?
- Frozenfuryblade, on 07/14/2009, -4/+31Anybody else think that this article was going to be about Hilary Clinton having an affair?
- evaburrito, on 07/14/2009, -0/+14I thought it was going to be about Chelsea
- Blinker1315, on 07/14/2009, -2/+14That's all true, Michael, and disgraceful. As one who lived a few blocks from the Trade Center, I find the lack of attention to Ground Zero appalling, an insult to New Yorkers and all Americans. I don't like Bloomberg one bit (or Howard Wolfson, for that matter), and his abolition of term limits is another affront to New Yorkers, which says he can buy the Mayoralty for life. Nonetheless, this doesn't diminish Clinton's complicity on reversing the policy of collecting property taxes from other countries.
- yeeaauuh, on 07/14/2009, -9/+21What's worse? Carpetbaggers stabbing former constituents in the back or being dumb enough to be surprised when it happens? Look in the mirror New York, if you're looking for someone to blame.
- jkmyoung, on 07/14/2009, -3/+13Is it possible that things have changed and people are adjusting for the situation? No, that couldn't be it.
Her job is now the US Secretary of State, no longer a senator. Why would you expect someone to still act the role of the senator? That's her replacement's job. - MrColdheart, on 07/15/2009, -0/+10I said over a year ago anybody who would spearhead a campaign to stop the sale of Grand Theft Auto 4 has no idea what the hell a real problem is.
Too many people think they can jump into front line politics without any real game plan or they believe because of the transient properties of their spouses popularity they can ride the fame.
We have too many political hacks.
- MiddleAmerica, on 07/15/2009, -0/+7
More misinformation & smears from an extremely biased far right-wing outlet (Murdoch's NY Post) that has a long record of such.
Trusting Murdoch's propaganda at this point is like trusting Bush or Cheney when we know what we know now.
- Blinker1315, on 07/14/2009, -2/+8Well, that's rude. Why are you blasting millions of regular citizens?
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -2/+7Can we find a source that isn't a tabloid, please?
- Blinker1315, on 07/14/2009, -22/+27Once a carpetbagger, always a carpetbagger. Hillary Clinton swooped into New York to further her own political ambitions, not serve the people of New York state. Is there any doubt that Obama will tap her for the Supreme Court during his term?
- gendjinn, on 07/15/2009, -0/+5Don't seem the NYPost complaining that US diplomatic properties overseas are exempt from property taxes. What a shock that another Murdoch rag is criticising a democrat. Colour me stunned.
- smacksaw, on 07/15/2009, -1/+5Well, I'm going to eschew hypocrisy and applaud this. As the article states, us charging tax while other nations do not charge tax, it seems as if we are being typically "Ugly American" in that we're above the rules yet again and/or the rules don't apply to us.
Now we just need to quit charging tax here and abroad and only charge tax on money made in the nation where it's earned. Again, we're the only ones who pull that crap as well. - yardie, on 07/15/2009, -0/+4So let me get this straight, NYC decided they were going to charge property tax. (A state issue) This conflicts with a quid pro quo federal agreement of not charging property taxes to embassies. We don't charge them here so they won't charge us there. Most of the embassies decided not to pay this tax, for decades. And there was little NYC could do about it. Is it possible to put a lien on an embassy? Eviction? I guess the most they could do is not allow the children into public school.
BTW, if you've ever seen most of the US embassies abroad they are a god-damn compound! Usually a few city blocks in size, and usually near the center of the major city. If every other nation decided to start charging property tax on our embassies getting $260 million would be the least of the problem. - Rotzooi, on 07/14/2009, -2/+6...coming from a North Dakota farmboy, that's a bit rich, don't you think?
- EvilDeadAsh, on 07/15/2009, -2/+6what a hideous ***** thought. i pity the poor bastard who would be desperate enough to attempt to mount that cow.
- Propethic, on 07/15/2009, -1/+5"Is there any doubt that Obama will tap her for the Supreme Court during his term?"
Um yeah, the fact that even the democrats will never allow it? Or how about she isn't a judge? - wilhoitm, on 07/15/2009, -2/+6At least she is not a quitter like Sarah Palin. Alaska is no NYC and it is screwed!
- jamesotis, on 07/15/2009, -3/+6Actually, I think that if Obama's numbers fall far enough, Hildebeast will seize the opportunity to turn on him, saying something to the effect that she can can no longer in good conscience support his policies. That'll sound the starting gun for her run for the 2012 Democrat presidential nomination. As her looks continue to take on the ugliness of her cynicism and general corruption, she'll be way too horrifying to run for anything in 2016.
- smacksaw, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2I was hoping it was "d" as in:
a) Bill
b) Hillary
c) Chelsea
d) None of the above - smacksaw, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2Coke and Pepsi are the same!
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -4/+6New Yorkers have only themselves to blame for this one. You made Clinton your senator, even though she was clearly just doing it to jump to bigger things. News Flash: Carpetbagger did not have constituents best interests in mind. Not that most congressmen are all that much better, but Hilary Clinton getting elected to the senate in New York was ridiculous.
- stox, on 07/15/2009, -1/+3Considering that we have far more embassies abroad than foreign nations have in New York City, we would end up paying far more taxes to foreign governments than they would pay here. So, good for the Federal taxpayer, but bad for the New York taxpayer. Realistically, the Federal Government should compensate the local government for the lost revenues.
- freediverx, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2And an ***** right-wing tabloid at that.
- digitalArtform, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2Indeed, noted Mayor Mike, the change "is against State Department policy for 150 years" -- or since about the time that Abraham Lincoln was president.
-- so she's doing it like the Founding Fathers. Originalists must be very happy. - NorthMass, on 07/15/2009, -3/+4The only explanation for giving diplomats a pass on property taxes is for her own political agenda, which shows she is not putting the priority of the folks of New York state first.
- sathias, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Denny Crane.
- digitalArtform, on 07/15/2009, -1/+2Why should the the nation's Secretary of State put NY first?
- shebaabc, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1All I can say is please get Obama out of office! ***** people put Bush down, he may ***** up at times but he was better then Obama!
- superkendall, on 07/15/2009, -1/+2Never use the term "tap" with a Clinton please.
- shebaabc, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1LOL
- shebaabc, on 07/14/2009, -12/+13Obama and Clinton are the same!
- pintomp3, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Blinker submits exclusively from Murdoch rags.
- pintomp3, on 07/15/2009, -1/+2Rednecks love to cry about 9/11 while hating New York.
- Nodaki, on 07/15/2009, -3/+3I wish I was farmboy rich. I am only government bureaucrat rich, that isn't rich at all.
- mr138, on 07/15/2009, -3/+3Well thank God we don't elect people to the office of presidency based on their looks.
/shudders at the thought of Palin leading the country. - deweyhewson, on 07/15/2009, -1/+1Perhaps, jamesoits, but can you name any time in America's history when a contender from the incumbent Preisdent's own party received the nomination ahead of him?
She may try it, but she wouldn't stand a chance. - NorthMass, on 07/15/2009, -1/+1Why should she be allowing diplomats to not pay property taxes? This only affects New York to my knowledge, so she is affecting New York state.
- Nodaki, on 07/15/2009, -2/+1Were you not upset about 9/11?
My comment was obvious trolling as it offered nothing in the way of argument, persuasion, or fact. Much like your comment. - Barackalypse, on 07/15/2009, -4/+2Suck it New York, that's the price you get to pay for your miscast votes, next time vote for someone who has your best interests in mind (and I am referring to both both national and location elections and yes I know they didn't elect Hillary Sec. of State, but making her a Senator made that appointment possible).
- shebaabc, on 07/14/2009, -11/+8Hey look IL it is the same way and we had Obama people!
- Nodaki, on 07/14/2009, -16/+5***** New York.
