- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+110Unfortunately this would probably be a catch 22 of sorts, i doubt the media would spend to much time talking about how much they suck. but it would still generate some buzz about a a really serious issue, imo.
"If you support this idea, it probably wouldn't hurt to shoot Michael Moore an email."
http://www.michaelmoore.com/email/index.php - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+43Already done - Manufacturing Consent.
(full video on Google)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5631882395226827730&q=Manufacturing+Consent&total=101&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0 - Ajajadude, on 10/11/2007, -0/+41I bet Jon Stewart would have a field day with it, though...
- duddles, on 10/11/2007, -5/+42Also Al Gore's The Assault on Reason covers the topic pretty well.
- crashbang, on 10/11/2007, -3/+34I believe someone mentioned Manufacturing Consent in the comments.
Please go and see it if you haven't
It will blow your freakin mind. - KibibyteBrain, on 10/11/2007, -1/+30I would love to see Moore team up with someone who is very anti-Moore but also anti-media to make a multisided attack on the media. I can't think of a personality off the top of my head, but people from all political backgrounds realize the danger of the current media establishment. Moore has the experience on whipping these things up, and an opponent co-authoring it could lend neutrality and credibility to the piece. It would really be great.
- deathweaver108, on 10/11/2007, -4/+32I'd rather see him (or anyone) do a film on the state of the American Education system. It is on that, which all else depends.
- suprememilo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22There is a movie, not by him though, its called "Out Foxed" but it pertains to all big media.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/11/2007, -5/+24This time the raptors would be scarier than ever, as they discover politics and join the Republican Party.
- Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21As much as I hate Moore, I do hate the media considerably more... if he/someone made this movie, it could do some considerable good.
- noobeffect, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19If he does decide to work on such a project, he should consider working alongside the individuals who made "Outfoxed".
- D3koy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17but without raptors, they scare me...a lot
- otheruser, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16Digging this is not enough. If you truly support this, PLEASE email Moore and let him know!
As "TomPlansMedia" posted up above, http://www.michaelmoore.com/email/index.php - ousthouse, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14I don't know why you're being dugg down... Bowling for Columbine WAS about the media.
- zumpiez, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Didn't he do this in Bowling for Columbine?
- spyd3rweb, on 10/11/2007, -7/+19Alex Jones has made a bunch of movies about this already.
- SolipsismX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Well even if you don't like him, the suggested movie would serve as a check and balance against corporate media which is always a positive thing.
- insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14I don't think you need an open letter for him to do this. After CNN lying and lying and lying right to his face, I wouldn't doubt he is at least researching it. It would be funny to see statistics about all the wrongs they get and about the corporate tie-ins and the specific big stories they got wrong.
- ISIfunded911, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11To inform oneself about the lies of the media, the propaganda machine, the control of our minds, some of these books/audiobooks/videos are essential:
Noam Chomsky : Manufacturing consent , Propaganda and control of the public mind .
Marshall McLuhan : The medium is the message
Edward Bernays : Propaganda
Edward Bernays is very interesting because he is an insider, he was THE greatest PR man in the US for decades, working for corporations and the government alike, convincing women to smoke and US Americans to go to war.
Guy Debord : The society of the spectacle , Comments on the society of the spectacle
Michael Parenti (very entertaining conferences): Methods of media manipulation , Media distortions of the gulf war
Howard Zinn (conference) : Propaganda in times of war
Several documentaries: The persuaders (PBS Frontline) , Spin , Rich media poor democracy , Independent media in a time of war , Orwell rolls in his grave , Outfoxed , The public relations industry unspun ,...
Last but not least: watching documentaries by independant journalists, like those of Greg Palast (who also works for the BBC), for example about election fraud or New Orleans, helps see how much does not get reported by the capitalist media. - treelovinhippie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13No, I think he should first make a doco about the war on drugs.
- BrewmasterC, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15Not hard. Just cite the business interests behind major media outlets.
Fox is owned by the British Murdock and is thus the least American of all channels. As long as Bush quenches Britain's imperial thirst by proxy he will be god.
NBC is owed by General Electric. They love war as it boosts their military contracts.
ABC is owned by Disney. They are not that war loving as they have little financial interest, but they love politicians that can extend the Mouse's copyright indefinitely.
CBS is probably the best for the consumer as their stock is traded separately.
CNN is owned by Time Warner. Google has smacked their AOL stock, and they are grasping for revenue from their print media. - Geekzilla, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15Bowling for Columbine, perhaps?
- numbered, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Well it's like Michael Moore said "The rich man will sell the rope to hang himself with." Sure these corporations don't like negative PR, but if they make a buck out of it they'll just pay some "expert" to discredit the movie later.
If you haven't seen "The Corporation," it's worth watching - thescimitar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Actually, I think that the media would have no problem talking about how the media spins information, because the individual media outlets always triumphantly proclaim themselves the veritable source for accurate news. In other words, you can trust the (insert corporation here) Network, because they are the only ones giving their viewers the full story. As long as you assume a position of "unbiased" expertise, even when criticizing your own industry, a certain contingent (often a large contingent) of your viewers will believe you.
- BenWhitey, on 10/11/2007, -9/+18This is a good movie on Fox. http://www.outfoxed.org/
It is a good documentary. Very unbias IMO. - RedShirtNumber2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10He needs to do one about lobbyists. They are behind a lot of the crap that comes out of D.C.
- MantaRay, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I believe there's already a film that fills this topic... "Network". It was true in 1976 and it's still relevant through today.
- Dhalsim007, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11I wish Michael would go back and do another season of "TV Nation" or "The Awful Truth". He does his best work in those 10-min segments/small doses.
- tatltat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7That was the whole point of the movie. Media creates fear. I doubt he's make the same movie twice.
- jgtg32a, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7The funny thing is "As much as I hate Moore, I do hate the media" is the exact line that went through my head also
@kibibyteBrian
Rush Limbaugh, I think would be the best choice assuming it was possible to keep them from killing each other.
Absolute opposites - HumphreyB, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Murdoch is Australian
- NoahVail, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6That's the point. Now there is not much difference between Fox (Sean Hannity & Bill O'Reilly) vs CNN (Glenn Beck & Nancy Grace). There was a time when there WAS a difference, and it was not that long ago.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9colbert would nail him to the wall
- BrewmasterC, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Yep Murdoch was born Aussie. I should have clarified. He built his media empire in Britain. Please patch the above posting from "Britain's imperial thirst" to "the Commonwealth of Nations imperial thirst".
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8This would be the easiest movie ever. Incompetence is highly visible at all levels. Don't know if there's enough for him to sink his teeth into.
- ZWarren69, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I JUST finished that! Damn...
You can stream it off google video, btw. - BESTenemy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6People hate the French. Nobody remembers why the French are hated, despite them being our ally in wars against Britain and in World Wars. Nobody remembers the 70's when French demanded gold in exchange for their USD foreign currency reserve. Nobody remembers them forcing Nixon to declare default and quickly come up with OPEC in order to keep others from doing the same bank rush. Nobody remembers that as the day we started hating French as ones that called out our bluff.
Nobody knows exactly why Moore's hated... I mean, nobody talks about why he's hated all of the sudden, and that is for comparing US to Cuba, and worse than that - doing it in a negative way. We hate Cuba, so we must hate Moore. Why we hate Cuba? Well, Castro, socialism, Cuban Missile crisis etc. Once again, it's fashionable just like French-bashing. Nobody wants to recall Castro's land reform that confiscated property from American investors in order to restore Cuba's sovereignty and eliminate exploitation of his people and national resources. He succeeded at doing one thing that few manage to pull off these days - he defended his country against an economic invasion.
We hate Moore, cause he points out our weaknesses and that's just not cool with people that know what the weaknesses are, so they come up with excuses that have nothing to do with issues such as "he's fat". If you don't know your country's history, then believe me, him being overweight is the least of your problems. Go read a book. - theNthDoctor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Agreed, but some support and encouragement wouldn't hurt. This movie is going to be longer than Titanic.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Even though this guy obviously is incapable of submitting a logical comment, it's true..Michael Moore is not a hero and is as deceitful as anyone out there
- wendelgee2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5That's really cynical, SuperWinner. Do you think everybody is entirely selfish all the time? Can't even one person authentically give a *****? And, what are the stakes here: pros to a screwed up media = promote movie, cons = thousands dead in a war and the slow death of objectivity. Which one would you care more about?
- serpentor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Not sure why you're being dugg down, your comment cracked me up. :)
- NoahVail, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Herman%20/Manufac_Consent_Prop_Model.html
- jonoxplor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3i hear that, seriously Dr. Phill go screw yourself if all you can blame it on is us.
- spoonyinc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Some of the best acting I've seen is in that movie. Truly a good watch.
- kkopacek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3martial law 911, terrorstorm, free on google video , very informative

In France, we had this TV-show (one of the few that was watchable) called ARRET SUR IMAGES. It got canceled.
It was THE ONLY show that analyzed, criticized Television, media and communication - mainly about politics.
We have a new president in France. Right Wing. The shows was canceled. I'm not saying it's linked. Just a coincidence.
That TV show ARRET SUR IMAGES, was 12 years old, one of the oldest on France 5.
The host, Daniel Schneiderman, was, i admit it, a leftie.
Anyway, it just shows, that , even in France, you can't really say what you want. Especially about TV, ON Tv.
Sad thing is that dumb people only watch TV. - Lewie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Science bless you sir!
- theNthDoctor, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6Alex Jones is only slightly more credible than David Icke. Moore FTW
- Cam_86, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sorry about the comment abuse, but I have a suggestion for those who want this...
Track down 'The Fifth Estate: sticks and stones' by the CBC. Remember the clip where Ann Coulter tells a Canadian journalist Canada was in Vietnam? Its from that documentary. It was essentially a look at the American media, from a Canadian perspective. Really showed just how polarized America has become. - brsteve88, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2But Jon Stewart does it to make it funny and through his presentation make it seem almost harmless. Michael Moore would delve deeper into the darker repercussions of having only the news deemed appropriate fed to the public.
