- inactive, on 05/27/2009, -86/+429You are seriously implying that there's a lack of movies that link Muslims to terrorism in Hollywood? And all movies blame Christians for troubles of the world? Whatever you are smoking, please share it with the rest of us.
What are your opinions on Bush's Crusade against Muslims that has left near one million Iraqis dead? Serial killers is the wrong phrase, I agree on that part. Let's call it genocidal maniacs.
What are your opinions about weekly cases of child abuse by the church and Vatican's failure to even admit how widespread this is? Read about the recent case of thousands of children who were abused, raped, beaten under care of church? Listen to this victim:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jHqndf9Kx4 - alanocu, on 05/27/2009, -68/+393My 70 year-old grandma, a christian woman, drives the same old beat-up car she brought with my grandpa 30 years ago to the Baptist church every Sunday morning. She weighs about 95 lbs. soaking wet. She occassionally makes sandwiches for the kids in Sunday School. Sometimes, she forgets the meat though. One day, she made a mayonnaise sandwich for me. Maybe she was trying to kill me? So I found the nearest potted plant and spit it out. But it got me wondering about her evil ways, and whenever I see her reading the bible, I sense she is plotting my murder.
- Junkyarddawg, on 05/27/2009, -61/+292Have the evangelicals stopped trying to get the state to enforce their morals on the rest of the population wrt abortion, contraception, stem cell research, evolution, gay marriage, or separation of state and church?
No?
Well I guess this dead horse hasn't been beaten quite enough yet, then. - wollsmosh, on 05/27/2009, -65/+267poor victimized christians...
- Hybridle, on 05/27/2009, -35/+225I guess we're not watching the same movies.
- theodenking, on 05/27/2009, -56/+229Blah blah blah oh woe is me I'm such an oppressed powerful, vocal majority.
- 23cranberries, on 05/27/2009, -31/+202When it's muslims and terrorists -> Oh pipe down, It's just a movie.
When it's Christians and villains -> You know, not ALL of us are LIKE that, right ?
Yeah. Seems to me like these people don't quite understand the concept of hypocrisy. - TweakNF, on 05/27/2009, -19/+183Who the ***** makes a John Kerry joke anymore?
- spartan777, on 05/27/2009, -20/+148"Muslims are the cause of virtually all terrorism in the world today"
*****. An unsubstantiated line that proves the author's narrow view and bias.
"We’ve never seen Hollywood go after Buddhism, Hinduism, or even Islam."
More *****. And if you include Seth McFarlane in the catch-all phrase "Hollywood" (as the author does) then it is an especially ignorant statement.
"Conservative Christians who are statistically far and away the most generous people on the planet"
A steaming, heaping pile of *****. I find it interesting that he used the word "statistically" merely for emphasis, and didn't provide any actual "statistic." - mparker21311, on 05/27/2009, -35/+149Hey, if Christians like to say atheists are heathens and use Stalin as an example of an atheist. Then why not call all Christians killers? After all, throughout history Christians have murdered/tortured/enslaved people... there are more Christians in prison.
- DangerCollie, on 05/27/2009, -8/+116The Mormons spending millions on Prop 8 in California, churches forming political action committees, voting for W. out of some twisted belief that he would hasten the end of the world. Trying to rob public school funding so they can funnel it to religious schools. Trying to get creationism taught in classrooms.
Maybe stop acting stupid and people will stop portraying you as stupid. Until then, you deserve to look bad. Religion mixed with politics corrupts both. - roomforpanic, on 05/27/2009, -25/+126"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."
--Jesus - jonmlm, on 05/27/2009, -29/+130this is an extremely poorly written "article". but the reason hollywood attacks christians so much? check with the writers and their personal experiences in the christian heartland of america.
steven: take a break from the "comedy" and enroll in some college english courses. - Hetman, on 05/27/2009, -12/+109Every movie with a terrorist in it has muslims in it. What the hell is he talking about.
- inactive, on 05/27/2009, -29/+120"On the other hand, we’ve got Conservative Christians who are statistically far and away the most generous people on the planet (whether you’re judging by missionary work or basic tax returns)"
So, spreading your religion to other countries under the guise of "help" and destroying their native culture is being generous? - vurdillac, on 05/27/2009, -26/+105If "going after Muslims" includes almost always depicting of them are as terrorists, then Hollywood isn't exactly innocent.
And sorry, Christians don't get points for being "the most generous people on the planet" when most of those charitable contributions are going to their own churches. If I pay dues to maintain a club I'm in, it's not like I'm saving the planet even if some of that money eventually trickles down to people in need. - NinjaDolemite, on 05/27/2009, -24/+101ok I saw Kingdom of Heaven. I honestly don't see how Christians were picked on compared to Muslims.
You guys really need to stop crying "discrimination." It's very pathetic. - jax0047, on 05/27/2009, -19/+95Some of the craziest people in the world are super overly religious.

And Christians are always wackos in movies? I can't remember the last movie where I saw a Muslim who didn't have a bomb strapped to him. How about atheists for that matter?
That's just the movies. Quit whining. - Occidentalist, on 05/27/2009, -53/+107Who runs Hollywood?

- LukeBass, on 05/27/2009, -21/+70Christians get bashed for the same reason geeks get picked on. It's an easy target. If you do stupid ***** like...I don't know.....Kill people in the name of god or.....Protect priests after they rape children I think you are due for a lot of bashing. Religion is a business under the guise of morality.
- jaydedrag0n, on 05/27/2009, -21/+68even without Hollywood they have created their own names for themselves. People don't remember good things people do. People remember the bad. even an old quote "The good is interred with their bones" stands testament to this. When a "Good Christian man" runs across the street during a Prop 8 protest to slap a 13 yr old girl (this happened in my town) who was against it. and the side cheered.. i don't think of them as "good Christian folks". When a group of people have been historically documented to be unforgiving to anyone who is different and seek out ways to remove human rights from them (blacks (i don't really need to document this one do i?), women, the mentally handicapped (think asylums) i don't tend to think of them as "good Christians" in fact with so much evidence to the contrary between the Christians, catholics and all the offshoots in between (lets exclude the Amish and their cohorts here) i don't tend to view anyone who professes those religions by default to be good and kind human beings.. i may let one person here and there within the religion slide by after proving that they aren't pricks.. simply because i try to believe that one bad apple doesn't ruin the whole bunch. but the problem that I've found is that it's not ONE bad apple... its one GOOD apple in a barrel of rotten ones
- DougChristian, on 05/27/2009, -22/+68God it's so annoying to even listen to you obnoxious Conservative Christian douche bags for a minute. Enough will never be enough. Your broken minds are a danger to humanity. I honestly couldn't give a ***** what you think or how you feel. Hollywood doesn't go anywhere near far enough at showing the implications of having billions of people on the planet who have given up rationality for fantasy. And you think oozing your self importance and your self pity all over our screens will somehow make us go "Yeah, you know those hoards of delusional fascists who dictate the terms of life on this planet, maybe they're not so bad after all."? ***** you.
You ***** are a majority. You're not discriminated against. You are the discriminator. How many atheists in Congress? How many open gays? Now how many ***** insane evangelicals? And yeah you give a lot of money. To things like Prop 8, pro-life terrorists, and the Bush Administration. Generous my ass. You're generous to other Conservative Christians and it ends there. ***** you. - EarlOfLade, on 05/27/2009, -5/+51This one says it all:

You're an idiot.
I'm an ex-catholic, and I /facepalm at the amount of ignorance shown toward the church, by people who have no idea what they are talking about.
Of course catholics are christians, they believe in the Holy Trinity and Jesus etc, the irony of course being that you are taking a "holier than thou" attitude toward a religion that is supposedly "holier than thou". - inajeep, on 05/27/2009, -6/+42I am what I am.
- Popeye - SpinningHead, on 05/27/2009, -20/+56"Conservative Christians who are statistically far and away the most generous people on the planet"
That's one of the funniest things I have ever read. Oh, and one day you'll have to explain to us how right wing Christians can try and force religion down our throats because Christians are the majority in the US while claiming you are also an oppressed minority. - AndrewMoyer, on 05/27/2009, -3/+39You don't have to be a Christian to believe the story of Jesus is a fascinating one.
I'm an atheist, and it's pretty awe-inspiring to think of how much this tale has shaped the world, for better and for worse. - jitterbits, on 05/27/2009, -2/+37Understand it? They've perfected it!
- fumbduck, on 05/27/2009, -2/+37umm, how about the people who GO to the movies and support it. yknow, the consumers, who are, hmmm, according to recent surveys, like easily, 70 percent christian in this country.
- Junkyarddawg, on 05/27/2009, -4/+39There's three problems.
The first is that these particular morals have no basis in reality except through a blinkered interpretation of the bible; even most christians don't have a problem with things like stem cell research or evolution.
The second is that it's a small religious minority - evangelicals make up about 20% of the population I believe - which tries to force their views on the majority. You can bet THEY wouldn't be happy if the state started passing laws basedon catholic beliefs.
The third is that there's nothing at all which suggests these particular morals are more objectively correct than, say, the old Norse belief that those who did not die in combat went to hell. - cal0140, on 05/27/2009, -4/+39For those of you burying paku ^^, F.A.G. is the acronym used for the Film Actors Guild in Team America: World Police. He's not just calling people fags which is why you're burying him...

Do you mean how Bible quotes were used on government war briefings?
http://men.style.com/gq/features/topsecret
Or do you mean Conservative Christians who say Jesus would approve of torture?
http://www.librarygrape.com/2009/05/red-state-jesu ...
When it comes to moderate Christians, PZ Myers (Pharyngula) wrote something that to me hit very close to home (this referenced the Hauser cancer case and relates to prayer, but its general point about moderates has much broader applicability):
"I have to say something that is heartfelt, and is also meant to offend. I do not absolve you mealy-mouthed moderates, I do not regard your beliefs as harmless. If Colleen Hauser or Leilani Neumann were in your church, you'd tell them to get medical care, but you'd also validate their belief in prayers. You would provide the soothing background muzak that says prayer is good, prayer is virtuous, prayer will connect you to the great lord who can do anything, prayer will give you solace in your time of worry. You would not raise your voice to say that prayer is useless, prayer is self-defeating, that while prayer might make you feel better while your child is suffering, that is no virtue. You pray yourselves. You think it is a noble and generous act for your representatives to prowl the corridors of hospitals, preying on the desperation of the sick. You abase yourselves before false hopes, and sacrifice human dignity on an altar built from the bones of the dead. You would spread the poison, piously excusing yourselves because you only want to administer sub-lethal doses.
You are Abraham's enablers. I hope you all feel a small tremor of guilt when you sit your own children down at bedtime to beg a nonexistent being for aid, when you plant the seed of futile supplication and surrender to delusions in their trusting minds. Damn you all."
I know churches and church organizations that speak out against war, and torture, but just as with the Muslim community they need to shout as loud as they can to make sure they are heard above the extremists, that their moderate communities care enough to make a stand, and not be afraid, and not be a nodding sheep.
Back to the article though, I think the author must not watch much by way of TV or movies. Christians do get portrayed positively, and negatively. IN a culture where most people are Christians! Shocking!! How often do you see protagonists that are Muslim in American TV and movies? I wouldn't expect it to be a large percentage just because demographically Americans are heavily Christian and business-oriented media companies might not think audiences would associate well with a Muslim protagonist (not that they try very hard), but really we're talking about a percentage that is vanishingly small relative to Christian protagonists. Same could be said of atheist and agnostic protagonists. On the other hand, Muslims are portrayed plenty as antagonists, or outsiders, or stereotyped. A better article would be a moderate Christian author siding/empathizing with his/her moderate Muslim brothers and sisters about common religious stereotypes and misconceptions in movies and TV.
But why do that when you can play the divisive religious card instead? - inactive, on 05/27/2009, -8/+40lol no it wasn't you *****.
