A Tax Holiday to Nowhere
newsweek.com — Hillary Clinton has joined John McCain in proposing the most irresponsible policy idea of the year: suspending the federal gas tax this summer. Both of them know it's a terrible pander, and yet they're pushing it anyway for crass political advantage. The goal is to depict Barack Obama as an out-of-touch elitist, by any means necessary.

- clvngodess, on 05/07/2008, -0/+5Sadly, I think the three candidates in the running are all a tad out of touch with the working and middle classes. Anyone earning millions upon millions of dollars is elitist. Let's face it Shillary's 110 million isn't exactly chump change. The whole election as process of, um, democracy is joke. But then I'm just cynical...
- BFNews, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1I think it's funny how one candidate gets labeled an elitist, while another represents the common man. As you said, they're all millionaires. Anyone who makes a legitimate run at the presidency today is going to be wealthy and educated. Hillary and Obama both have law degrees and money, yet Hillary represents blue collar Americans and Obama doesn't? Doesn't make much sense.
- TsuruchiBrian, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1I got an even better idea. Let's keep the gas tax but make Osama bin Laden pay for it.
Also we should have soda in the drinking fountains and no school on Fridays.
What is wrong with our country that our "leaders" feel that their best strategy to gain votes is to treat us like not just children, but really stupid children.
