- jeffiner44, on 09/20/2008, -0/+4Wow, people sure are stupid. The article was saying that the voting game is rigged. If you do not attack the rules you can never get change. Playing heads you win, tails I lose, is stupid. For those that do not like any candidates, and that is all this article was addressing itself to, you have a few choices, pick a person you dislike, don't vote for President, or write in a candidate. Picking a person you dislike is as dumb as it gets. You will get a person you disagree with to have total power over you. Brilliant. Not voting at all sends no message. They do not count non-votes. They will just announce that you are an apathetic fool who is too foolish to vote and all of society's evils can be blamed on you.
Voting as a write-in gives you the choice to pick who you want, and if the state you live in throws those votes away, you force the state to show that they are slimy, fascist, democratic process haters who refuse to allow any dissenters to have a voice. If enough people voted this way who were not going to vote at all, then imagine the lawsuit that says, the state just threw away 56% of the vote, we object.
But most of you are too blinded by the light to know that you have no choice. You go along blinded by the light and screaming at anyone who tries to do something to protect you.
It is amazing how many patriots are lambasted these days. Go Socialism! - blakmira, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3jeffiner44, you are absolutely correct and this is a really good article.
The whole voting system is broken, from the electronic voting machines and opti-scanners that are designed for fraud with no paper trails to the way the ballots are counted in secret to our pathetic 2-party same-old-crap choices to the way they throw write-ins and absentee ballots in the trash.
There was massive fraud in the last 2 elections and in these past primaries, most specifically where Ron Paul was concerned. That is only a taste of what you're going to see come November! (Hint: 49% vs. 51%, just like last time)
Watch the DVD UnCounted: The New Math of American Elections, it is 100% proof of this! Very impressive with officials and whistleblowers and evidence. It is NOT just the poor and minority that are getting screwed in this country when it comes to voting. We ALL are!
We have just 3 years to abolish all DRE electronic voting machines and secretive ballot counting in every state before the next election. Do you think people will have woken up by then??? - vipero00, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3What lesson did you learn? Give up and get with the program? Shut up and follow the system? ***** the system. It's broken. From they way candidates are selected, who's allowed on the ballot, who's covered in the press, who's allowed in the debates, and who's allowed to vote, the system is broken. I'm not gonna sit here like some sheep cause I'm a FREE man. I'm writing in Ron Paul because if I write in NOTA they're to stupid to know what that means, Voting for any of the "approved" candidates means that I'm not free.
- jsffive, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2I've seen Ron Paul speak. I think it's a fair assessment to say that he's not a stupid man.
And I don't think he's naive enough to think that the principles of TRUE Liberty, TRUE Democracy, and TRUE Republicanism, are going to get out to the people in just one election cycle...
Sure, he kept the money, but we don't really know what he plans to do with it yet. Come back in six months and revisit the question. It's worth asking again, because as much as I like Ron Paul, my duty as a citizen is to carry a healthy level of suspicion for ANY of our "leaders".
And by NOT going third party, he kept his place in the Republican party.
Here's a news flash for you libertarians out there: if you're ever going to truly advance the TRUE ideals of freedom and liberty, the people who comprise the Republican AND Democratic parties are going to HAVE TO come along for the ride!
Fortunately, I live in the Commonwealth, so I have more than just "Standard Keynesian on the Right" and "Standard Keynesian on the Left" to vote for in this year's Presidential election, so I'm going to pick the craziest one I can find on election day, and cast my vote AWAY from the ones that the Establishment have presented me with this time around. Because any of the third party choices are better than the Establishment's choices. - runderwo, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1The fool is the one who believes he has any influence whatsoever on the course of American policy by voting for one pathological liar over the other for dictator-in-chief.
Your time, emotions, and intellectual effort is better spent in developing plans to undo what has been done by one dictatorship after another since 1860.
Accepting the distasteful meal that has been served is only an option if you wish to have more of the same. - CCoburn3, on 09/19/2008, -7/+1More tripe from the ivory towers. I supported Dr. Paul, but I've learned my lesson -- again.
Libertarians are deathly afraid that they will actually be called upon to implement their ideas. Therefore, they make sure that they run ineffective campaigns (if they run for office) or, if they are like the author, suggest people cast votes that will not be counted.
Ron Paul raised more money than anyone else running. How did he spend the money? He didn't. He kept it. Did he run a campaign designed to get the nomination? No one can seriously contend that he did. Seeing the overwhelming popularity of his ideas with the electorate, he decided to concentrate on campaigning in states like West Virginia. That way even if he won, he would not be in any danger whatsoever of actually being nominated.
Now that the danger of him being nominated is over, can you get him to commit to supporting a candidate? Not he! He contents himself with telling people to vote 3rd party, but not for a particular 3rd party. That way he's certain that he doesn't use his influence to bring about any meaningful change.
Now we have the author of this article going Ron Paul one better. Instead of urging people to vote 3rd party, she urges people to write in votes BECAUSE they won't be counted. These people want to make damned sure that they have no influence whatsoever on the course of American policy.
