- Topher06, on 09/02/2008, -5/+42All you have to do is look at the Wii and how they hooked millions on their "casual" gaming to understand that there are more people out there that will pick up a puzzler or platformer game then something like Resitance 2 or Fallout. I can believe that LBP will be a huge game this year as its an easy game for anyone to pick up an play, particularily those waiting for a really good casual game experience on the PS3.
You can't deny that this is one innovative game, and the amount of attention to detail in the graphics and physics make this a stand out PS3 title. Will it actually be the biggest game this year? Its hard to say, but to dimish this game saying sales will suck or that the game itself is crap just reaks of ignorance about the game and the game industry in general.
Ultimately, this will probably be the first game on either the PS3 or Xbox360 platform that will make Wiifanatics wake up and realize that you can actually combine state of the art with fun and innovative gameplay and target the casual audience. - inactive, on 09/02/2008, -3/+28I just bought a PS3 last month and I can't wait for these new titles to be released.
- IrvineKinneas50, on 09/03/2008, -3/+20It's a little sad that a 2D sidescroller is more innovative and creative than almost every game released this generation.
- mywhitenoise, on 09/02/2008, -3/+17I wont be picking up World at War (***** done with WWII games), but there's a ***** load of other games coming out....many more that look more appealing than COD.
SOCOM
LBP
Resistance 2
Motorstorm Pacific Rift
Rock Band 2
Mirror's Edge
Prince Of Persia
Fallout 3
Bioshock
Tekken 6 (rumored for December)
Street Fighter 2 HD
Wipeout HD - arunforce, on 09/03/2008, -0/+13Well actually it's a 3d sidescroller.
- mywhitenoise, on 09/02/2008, -2/+15no way, the hype is unbelievable. From my perception it seems like 70 - 80% of the gaming community who already has a PS3 will be picking it up.
I think everyone is forgetting MGS4, though. - sanwedgy, on 09/02/2008, -6/+18I would bet on Resistance 2 being the biggest seller but LBP being the most talked about and have a slightly higher review score.
- Stonekeeper, on 09/03/2008, -1/+12Hey, it worked for Sex in the City!
- IrvineKinneas50, on 09/03/2008, -3/+12I bought a PS3 for LittleBigPlanet (well, and SOCOM and FFXIII before it went multiplatform, but LBP was a big part of it).
The game looks incredible, and it will improve as time goes on. The internet has an amazing ability to take building blocks and create amazing things with them. Dedicated individuals will create some INCREDIBLE levels on LittleBigPlanet.
Does anyone remember some of the insane levels on Line Rider? All you could do in that game was make lines. Now imagine people that dedicated making levels in a full-physics environment... with an online system that allows you to rate and share levels youtube-style. The best will rise to the top and we'll see some incredible stuff. Recreations of sidescroller levels, unique puzzles, artistic levels, even educational levels.
LBP has the potential to start a gaming revolution when it comes to user-generated content.
Don't count it out just because it's a sidescroller. - YancyFryJr, on 09/03/2008, -3/+12Buying a PS3 for LittleBigPlanet and MGS4. Time to make good on the "will buy when good exclusives come out" claim.
- davdw001, on 09/03/2008, -0/+8There are 50 levels to play in the game. If you don't want to create you don't have to. Definitely picking this one up!
- Elranzer, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7We need more 2D side-scrollers. If the sales of LittleBigPlanet and Mega Man 9 wake up the other publishers, maybe we'll finally see a new 2D Sonic game (high-res, but 2D).
- readme, on 09/03/2008, -1/+8No chance it's ever coming to the 360. It's published by Sony. Closest you'll get on the 360 is Viva Pinata 2 or Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.
- NomortaL1, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6yea seriously, as much as i like the occasional FPS, the market is over saturated with them atm
- Darkaged, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6To appreciate MGS4 you really needed to play at least all of the other Metal Gear Solid games. That's why many people love It, but many people also hate It.
- kawaiirobo, on 09/03/2008, -8/+14I love my ps3, but it's a little sad when the biggest title on a next gen console ends up being a 2D side scroller.
- readme, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7It's not just a side scroller. It's sort of like a combination of Mario, Garry's Mod, and any of those physics sandbox games like Phun.
- defaultdigger, on 09/03/2008, -2/+8Can't wait. I am looking forward to this more than than I did GTA or MGS.
- Barnolde, on 09/03/2008, -3/+9To ANYONE saying the sales will suck:
Go pre-order it right ***** now or else stop bitching about unique, quality titles that don't sell, this is your chance, so don't screw it up. Then pre-order Beyond Good & Evil 2 while you're at it.
They just finished announcing pre-order bonuses at 5 different US retailers:
Kratos Sackboy at GameStop (Canada too)
Nariko Sackgirl at Best Buy (Play for Europeans)
LBP sticker book at Circuit City
Canvas pouch at GameCrazy
Digital game guide at Amazon
It's the Youtube of games and it's why their motto is 'play, create, share.' You have the power, use it wisely. - IrvineKinneas50, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7You don't have to create anything. You can forget about that aspect of the gameplay and just play fun levels people upload. The game allows you to play it how you want to.
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -1/+6oh yea, forgot about some of those good ones.
Mirror's edge looks great,
i'll try to trade gta/mgs for prince of persia and bioshock.
I dled force unleashed last night, didn't get a chance to play it yet. What have you been playing? - jacksons98, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6Your not a gamer then. PS3 has the best games of 2008 so far.
- NomortaL1, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5i will be buying this on opening day ... oct 30th though :(
japan doesnt always get things first it seems... :D - polywaffle, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5counterstrike, for one
- Magnolit, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5Hopefully Sony will run some strong ad's for it.
- NomortaL1, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5while spore looks like a good game... totally different games
- mywhitenoise, on 09/02/2008, -1/+5I really haven't been playing anything new, haha...waiting for October.
Just a little Soul Calibur IV, and the usual Warhawk and Rock Band. - kawaiirobo, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5Um, I think we are saying the same thing it two different ways.
- Elranzer, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5LBP will be big, but not so much Home. If you wanna play with Virtual Dolls, fire up Second Life.
- sgxyay, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4This is the type of game that will probably continue to sell for a long time at a moderate pace.
- dsmx, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4So the PS3 has sold 2/3's of the number of the xbox 360 in less than 2 years? So that puts it's sales ahead of the xbox 360 and that was without any of the ps3's heavy hitters for most of that time. I'd be more worried about xbox 360 sales then ps3 sales.
- vegx, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4"All you have to do is look at the Wii and how they hooked millions on their "casual" gaming to understand that there are more people out there that will pick up a puzzler or platformer game then something like Resitance 2 or Fallout."
By that logic, Zack and Wiki should have sold a lot better than it did. - Castor385, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4Well, I don't exactly see why this game wouldn't be fun for people who don't like to create their own levels/maps. Counter-Strike was fun to play those days, right? I created some maps for Counter-Strike which have been played over and over again. For me it was fun to make them and see other people enjoy playing it.
The biggest part of these games isn't creating your own levels, but playing them. The same goes for LBP. The vast majority will only play the levels. Only a few will create their own. The point is: LBP gives you the tools to create them.... on a console! with others! co-operative level design! It's a tool that could add those hours of fun to amature level designers and supplies extra content for all players. - baldgye, on 09/03/2008, -2/+5Corrected;
Hahaha, you're so smart. That mistake really needed to be called out, as I saw I am the only one who makes grammatical mistakes when I make stupid comments on stories - thecheatah, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3I enjoyed it. I even beat it on all difficulties. It might be "bland" because it feels familiar, but its still damn fun. I thought the score in the 9s was perfect.
- IrvineKinneas50, on 09/03/2008, -4/+7Resistance 2 has some neat tech, but the gameplay is generally overwhelmingly bland. I bought Resistance and it was a fun time-waster but the game simply lacks style - it was the definition of an alien shoot-em-up. The scores were massively inflated because it was Ps3's first decent game.
LBP appeals to a lot larger demographic than Resistance 2 does. It also has a lot more potential for word-of-mouth advertising. I'd be willing to bet it'll greatly outsell Resistance 2. - IrvineKinneas50, on 09/03/2008, -3/+6LittleBigPlanet is going to capture an entire demographic PS3 previously didn't appeal to.
- ZombieKiss, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3If it had the same level of marketing and press that Little Big Planet has garnered then perhaps it would have.
- Ajajadude, on 09/02/2008, -1/+4I might need a second job since I'll definitely be buying 5 of those.
- theaceoffire, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3@pigfister
I would *LOVE* targeted ads.
If I never had to see one more commercial about "Head-on", Life Insurance, Retirement, mortgages, etc, I would be a happy person.
Just Video Games, Porn, Food and Drink. Hell, I would sign up for that... - Topher06, on 09/02/2008, -0/+3Time to come out of the cave buddy.
- ChinezePanda, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Go back to the cave from hence you crawled out from.
And fine... we'll compare it to Donkey Kong. - jacksons98, on 09/03/2008, -2/+5PS3 has more exclusives. Everything on Xbox is available or eventually coming to PC or PS3 anyway.
- cthellis, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Most major game engines deliver a LOT of good mods. They might be in low proportion compared to a lot of crap you have to sift through, but I've frequently had WAY more fun with the mods to a game than the game itself, at least in the lasting multiplayer experience.
LBP, and most other games trying things like this now, will at least have a ranking system in place as well, so you'll have an easier time finding the gems you'll like. ;-) - theaceoffire, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2^_^ Plus the developers already said "no" to both the 360 and the Wii.
- waynehoggett, on 09/03/2008, -1/+3Little Big Planet is the true future of gaming, combine it with Home and the PS3 is going to have an extremely social last quarter.
- MWeather, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2WoW = second life with level grinds, yet it seems to be doing quite well, and it's not even free.
- cthellis, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Seems kinda better than ads targeted right to your dashboard, whether you like it or not and whether you already subscribe or not.
- theaceoffire, on 09/03/2008, -1/+3@frepnog
Mario: Side scrolling, jumping, item box, switches, etc.
LBP: Sidescrolling, jumping, grabbing, build anything, switches, movements, level design, enemy design, create anything you want-design.
O.o yeah, sounds boring. /sarcasm
And if you don't think that 900 people will create a "mario" reproduction using these tools, you're fooling yourself. - UntouchableC, on 09/03/2008, -2/+4Yeah LBP is shaping up to be an exceptional game. Plus it probably will be the biggest Sony title of this year for a number of reasons (mainly its broad apeal). But to suggest that this is gaming's saviour sent to enlighten "casual" gamers of "real" games is nothing more than wishful thinking.
Wii opened up a new demographics to gaming for a number of key reasons; primarily price point, simplicity, marketing, DS and family friendlyness. Sony can market LBP as hard as they want, but I seriously doubt the households that own just a Wii will suddenly see the PS3 (home of GTA4 and MGS4) as an affordable family friendly console...even with the number of rainbow colors on the bundle box.
Hell, even those who casually bought a PS3 will could easily dismiss this game as a kids game. It just oozes of cuteness. Considering 90% of the other PS3/360 games include, guns, cars, or a sporting event. Those who do not follow the gaming industry, get their game suggestions from lads mags or 30second TV adverts could just see Resistance 2 as a safer purchase.
I'm not knocking the game, I just don't see yet what it is doing differently to succeed commercially where Viva Pinata and the like failed. -
