I love how submitter had to throw that in there as if this review was a huge conspiracy. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+50A different reviewer from PSM also game Lair a 5.0/10.
- DjOverEZ, on 10/10/2007, -10/+52Is it simply possible that Warhawk is *gasp!* not as good as the hype has made it out to be!?
- hater2win, on 10/10/2007, -20/+50Hmm. I have a subscription to PSM for about 5 years now and they are usually VERY hard on games. Everything I have heard from others, and from my brief beta playtime has told me that is is a great game. The controls felt very comfortable and natural to me and the gameplay is addicting. I stress that last word heavily (addicting). Let's hope the experience hasn't changed much since my last time playing it. But I suppose we will see.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -12/+39I was on the beta. So was one of my good friends. We're both addicted, we both loved it, and I don't know if the reviewer complains about the controls, but they're fine for me.
All I can think is that maybe he was expecting something more single player. This game has no singleplayer, only multiplayer - so Sony is putting it up on the PSN for half the price of a regular game ($30). It has plenty of stuff to do in it (Much more than Resistance Multiplayer...there are tons and tons of medals, a lot of different requirements to rank up, and all sorts of crap to do with your player when you rank up.)
The hours and hours of solid online gameplay that I really haven't gotten with any other game since Resistance on my PS3 could be used as an argument against this rating. And usually I'm a snob when it comes to games. - truspector, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28EGM gave it a 6.
http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=88918 - JlmAWP, on 10/10/2007, -10/+29I don't know. Judging from the "maestro" that put on the Warhawk demo at E3 '06, the controls look pretty shaky at best.
Maybe he just sucked at games. You don't have to be good at the to make them, I guess. - coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -8/+27The fact that the guy actually complains about bots not being in the game and uses it as a main negative point shows how not seriously I'm going to take this review. Warhawk was a multiplayer online game from about midway through development on. Everyone knew that. The fact that you need an online connection at all times is totally moot due to the fact that I'm sure 99.9% of people with PS3's have a viable wireless or wired internet connection that's on all the time. The beta servers were completely full during the duration of the beta test (which was at least a month or two), so I don't see online play slowing down for any reason at any time. He also mistakenly states that the game is $50. It's going to be released for $40 on the PSN and $60 with included headset, so he's wrong on both accounts.
That and that I've played it and loved it. Personally, I don't care if they give it a 1, I'm still picking it up.
For those who haven't played, it reminds me a lot of Unreal Tournament. All multiplayer, all fast paced, and really freaking fun to frag people in any of the vehicles (especially if you're just hanging out on the ground and get the chance to surprise a warhawk with your tank.) - saltinekracka20, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24I wouldnt agree with that, seeing as how his paycheck is coming from PSM and not OXM. If I'm the CEO of Cingular but used to work at Verizon, I'm not going to sabotage my current company for the benefit of the old one.
- reed311, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I read the entire review and there was no mention of Ron Paul, so I'm almost positive this is a conspiracy by the mainstream media.
- WhereAmI, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19I don't think they are that hard on games. Not hard enough. a 6.5 on Warhawk when I heard so many good things is very surprising; Maybe the new boss is cracking down on the reviews. 6.5 is very low for a PSM review, especially with what I have heard about this game.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Having a PS3 doesn't magically make us like crappy games. Most of us have other consoles to play as well.
The stupid fanboys that you see being made fun of in Digg articles are few and far in between in the real world. - PAPAsoMEAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12There are many many many games not even worth renting
- hockey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13You honestly really don't have to be good to make them. I remember back in the day reading interviews from the developers of Street Fighter II and they said that they weren't all that good at the game themselves. At least nowhere near the skill levels of some of the upper tier players.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1499.9% wasn't meant to be an accurate statistic. What I really should have said is that the amount of people without internet are totally inconsequential when reviewing a game that is only multiplayer. If people with a $500 console have no computer or internet I think they should be worrying about something other than picking up Warhawk.
- pixelate, on 10/10/2007, -6/+16All you need to know about the current state of affairs is right here:
http://www.metacritic.com/games/xbox360/scores/
http://www.metacritic.com/games/ps3/scores/
About 60 Xbox 360 titles have a score of 80 or better, while less than 20 do for the PS3 (and about 75% of those top PS3 titles have equivalents on the 360 that have scored higher). The one year head start is the big factor here, but clearly the PS3 has a lot of ground to make up... If titles like Lair and Warhawk don't start living up to some of the hype, it's going to be a problem. - apoc06, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10the screenshots are usually provided to all the magazines and websites by the publisher in the games' press package. thats why you'll see so many of the same screenshots across different sites.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12I'd expect this for Lair, it stinks.
But Warhawk seems like it should do better. And it is really a "third person shooter"? Is that what all those war games are termed?
I dunno.
If you make a game that is a near-knockoff of Battlefield 2 and has no single-player value, you can't expect 10s. But 6.5 seems kinda harsh. - carl25, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14i remember someone was telling me how warhawk is better than the battlefield 2 series.
This will come in handy - justblaze2319, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12"OMFG YOU MUST BE A PS3 HATER~!!!!!!!!!!!!!111"
- hockey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Anything to get that coveted "OMGZ I made the front page" honor
- psbpv3o, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14*****, when will I get a good ps3 game? Besides ninja gaiden sigma....
- hassanchop13, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13yes, because a game a for a console that you seem to dislike got a bad review, anyone who owns that console is a loser. i see the logic there, thanks for helping me out.
- Jholder112233, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10I bet you also had a ***** ps2 too, best selling console EVER. Yehh they build heaps of *****...
- EvilWalksWithMe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8In the reviewers eyes, plenty.
- kinseyincanada, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12both Lair and now Warhawk were supposed to be the PS3's AAA games but they have both scored poor reviews, hopefully Heavenly Sword, doesn't suck so i can justify getting a PS3.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Just got word back from PSM editor (I emailed him):
"Yes, it’s a scan (and copyright infringement) of our October issue review." - coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11Maybe you're a loser for listening to what everyone on the internet says instead of actually formulating your own damn opinion. Stop being such an idiot sheep. The PS3 has plenty of positives and almost double the amount of games rated over 80 on Metacritic than the Wii.
God damn you people would vote masturbate with razor blades if everyone else on Digg said it was cool. - errictshunn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9They won't, but FF X/12 have gotten terrible reviews from the person who is most important in my eyes.. ME
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8A) One review does not a flop make.
B) Through personal experience and the opinions of the hundreds of people I beta tested this with, it's an amazing game. These people are not biased because I hear them say plenty of stuff about the bugs and annoyances in Home beta and other Sony things. - writh3n, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11I'm in the beta, I thought warhawk was pretty decent. My only complaints were the problems with server stability, but that is to be expected from a beta game.
- daridave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Good. Just like Nintendo Power rates sucky games as sucky, so should PSM. Wtf, I mean, people trust these reviews to know where to spend their money.
If the developers dish out crap, they deserve this... but then again, it IS just ONE review... let's see what the others have to say, as well. - fadetoone, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I agree with coheed. The need for online connectivity is inconsequential.
If it was of consequence, based on that logic, all games for console Y should be rated a zero because billions of people don't own said console. - coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I was speaking on terms that the original poster would understand. Was your opinion formulated through actually playing the system or did you get it from the various postings on Digg. If the first, that's cool, but most people on here that hate the console haven't even seen a PS3 in person, much less had some time playing with a lot of the fun crap that comes with it.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9MGS4, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank will all kick Warhawks ass.
Warhawk PS3's best game? Where the ***** did you hear that? - purag66, on 05/13/2009, -5/+10i bet the reviewer got pwned while playing the game...
- chocobomog, on 10/10/2007, -8/+13Because it makes sense to judge a game's controls based on a demo from 15 months ago...
- pnyphnz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6No need to clarify. Movies, music and photos generally fall under the umbrella of media player, which has no negative connotations.
- staticneuron, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6If it was so flawed.... I'd imagine there would be more negative comments from beta testers. Seriously, I haven't heard anything bad from the beta testers which is surprising because normally there is someone who just doesn't like the game.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6He's talking about the beta experience, fanboy.
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5He was avoiding the Giant Crabs!!!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+11PSM gave bioshock a 10 llollololoolol
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I know I can look at a game like Heavenly Sword and say... No matter what, I wont like that game because I don't like button mashing combo fighters. But that is me.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It's called warhawk because the main and most "fleshed out" vehicle in the game is the warhawk. You can pick up something like 8 different weapons while flying around in the warhawk while tanks and jeeps have only one primary weapon per position. A majority of the time IS spent flying.
- PhantomRogue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Actually, all you need to know is...
~30% of the PS3's are Above 80, and ~25% of the XBox's library is above 80...
So if you want to look at something, look at the Ratio of Good Games per Library. Not just the number of games that rate high. - untzboy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5have you noticed how terrible they have been getting? For the review of The Darkness they used Xbox screenshots, and they've been quite condecending lately.
- jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6This isn't the "official" playstation Magazine. Just Playstation Magazine.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6I would mention that in Tomb Raider you observe your character from a third person camera view, and yet Tomb Raider is not a third person shooter.
Names are funny things. - dtrinh, on 10/10/2007, -8/+12As a beta player for Warhawk, I think PSM is going a *bit* harsh on Warhawk here. The flight system is polished but has a very high learning curve for moving adeptly. Perhaps the reviewer's frustrations for getting owned got taken out on the review score? ;D
- kfconme, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4is 6.5 even that bad? its a repetitive MP game, how high of a rating could it have gotten?
I'm still going to get it despite what PSM says. I've never took a reviewers word for what I thought looked good.
wait till its out, rent it, if you like it, then buy it. -
