- staticneuron, on 10/30/2007, -2/+21One thing I hate about detractors is that they make inane staements. Sony didn't make the comment naughty dog did. And y'know what, let the companies that are actually using the ability's of the cell announce it so you do not get confused between a port that runs at a glitch 20-30 fps and a title that actually is designed for the system.
That should ease your mind though... only 4 recently released titles can claim utilization of the cell. The other games use it as means to an end. - staticneuron, on 10/30/2007, -0/+19Ociris, I own both but I see way more attacks on the PS3 than anything else. The PS3 defenders are reactionary. There are alot of lame comments and false information that is thrown out casually when people start up about the PS3.
- EDmAN, on 10/29/2007, -7/+25I think Uncharted has the potential to be the best PS3 game this year. I'm not getting my hopes up just yet, I believe it is going to be good though. I haven't seen one bad preview of the game yet, and most who have played it, say it controls a lot like Gears of War. I also like the story, we don't always have to be ultra-marines do we?
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -14/+27Great, first Ratchet & Clank and now this. If the PS3 can demonstrate significantly superior capability over the 360, that will help more than any price cuts. Right now with most of the games being either multiplatform ports and games developed without time to optimize for the unusual architecture of the PS3, it hasn't been apparent that the PS3 is any more powerful than the 360. People see a lot of games that look the same, and it only takes a couple that really blow anything on the 360 out of the water to make a difference to average consumers (Since this is what is going to be obvious in a TV ad)
It's not guaranteed of course, but considering the more evolutionary architecture of the 360 and the year lead time we're not likely to see much improvement in developers understanding of how to optimize for the 360 hardware than we will on the PS3, so the fact that the PS3 has (for the most part) been able to keep up with the 360's power seems to indicate that there's room for the PS3 to improve quite a bit over the 360. - rainergamer, on 10/29/2007, -0/+13oh so the average consumer doesn't have a herd-thinking mannerism?
- albrnick, on 11/14/2007, -1/+14Hey, Ratchet and Clank, Warhawk and Heavenly Sword are here today! = )
- bigbadgoat, on 10/29/2007, -2/+14not necessarily. Just because I have a dual-core processor, doesn't mean the processor is utilized properly, only using one core is limiting the processing power of my machine, just like many PS3 games that only use the main core.
- themacx, on 10/29/2007, -6/+17Dirt for PS3 runs better then the 360 version.. so not all ports are *****.
- AwesomeMonster, on 11/14/2007, -24/+35This is one thing I really hate about sony, they can never seem to make any news without something like WITH THE USE OF THE AMAZING CELL PROCESSOR!!!! or THE MIGHTY POWER OF BLU-RAY. We all know you use these technologies, you don't need to reiterate it every chance you get.
- Birdoftruth, on 10/29/2007, -3/+13that was dugg up until the end where you revealed your bias. Not everyone wants the same rehashed FPSs over again.
- ericrous, on 10/27/2007, -2/+12According to Sony, using 100% of the Cell's power is just too dangerous. It could cause a tear in the very fabric of space-time itself, dooming us all in the wake of its awesome power.
- JayD16, on 10/29/2007, -3/+12The average consumer is not a digg reader...
- reed311, on 10/26/2007, -0/+9You can demo a PS3 by purchasing it at Walmart and playing it for a month or so and then returning it. You can't be serious about playing demos on competing systems though.
- stereoa, on 10/29/2007, -0/+9I agree with staticnueron. Most games DON'T utilize the Cell processor. They are just ports, so for a game to be developed and actually take advantage of Cell is interesting to say the least.
- bilbravo, on 10/27/2007, -0/+8I play Warhawk everyday, and 90% of the servers are full.
- staticneuron, on 10/27/2007, -1/+9What? Where did warhawk go? It is still an incredibly fun game and I am eagerly awaiting the 1.1 and 1.2 updates that are going to be released soon.
- ericrous, on 10/27/2007, -2/+9Yes, the Cell was utilized--as opposed to the PS3's non-Cell CPU.
- diggrim, on 10/27/2007, -6/+13I'm on the fence about Uncharted...I look forward for the demo!
- rainergamer, on 10/27/2007, -3/+10Ugh I'm going to have to get this on the 20th. I just got the Eye of Judgment yesterday, man it is SO ***** fun!
asdf money in the negatives! - rainergamer, on 11/14/2007, -1/+7Are you ***** retarded? Do you think games magically appear from thin air?
I'm going to go with "hurr hurr, I'm a ***** retard" - apoc06, on 10/27/2007, -0/+6warhawk is still being played, just like resistance and most other games are still full of players.
dont blindly listen to trolls. read tacklebox's post history. he has a pretty obvious bias against the ps3. page two is pretty interesting. http://www.digg.com/users/tacklebox/history/page2
how do people have the energy to hate an inanimate object so intensely? - rmany2k, on 10/27/2007, -2/+8Wow.
And the award for biggest waste of a comment goes to... - phatcat77, on 10/27/2007, -0/+6Looks like an old fashion adventure game, with new game play. Kinda like the way they should make an Indiana Jones game.
Anyway I'm looking forward to it. - NightVortez, on 10/27/2007, -0/+5Why is everyone going crazy about the Cell utilized comment? "Oh we're really utilizing the Cell" just means they're using the hardware given as much as they can. You hear this from developers all the time, not just a Sony company but every company out there, especially when talking about hardware, hell I've heard it said about the Wiimote a few times as well. It's a good thing mates, it means they're really utilizing the features given by the hardware and didn't just add HD and create the same game as the last generation.
- macromorgan, on 10/27/2007, -7/+12When your competition is Warhawk, Rachet & Clank for first party games and stuff like Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band, and Elder Scrolls Game of the Year that is saying a lot; just so you know.
- somesthetic, on 10/27/2007, -0/+5I wasn't interested until I saw some footage of real gameplay. It looks like it could be a really satisfying game.
now we need to see if it will fall into the category of Lair (Bad), Heavenly Sword (Good but flawed) or Ratchet & Clank (Great). - agent0x0, on 10/30/2007, -6/+11Agreed...Oblivion is a perfect example. The ps3 version of Oblivion loads faster and the graphics are better then the xbox 360 version.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Or Die Hard 4.
- NightVortez, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Did you even read the article or what? They didn't say they've utilized the CPU in general, here is what they've said...
"We are utilizing all SPUs in Uncharted for AI, animation and lots of other systems. We are however just starting to tap into the power of the Cell. In future games I can promise even more utilization of the Cell which will result in more of everything, including game play."
It's the only quote there, it's not hype it's talking about what they've used to make animations and such and how they could improve in the future. Every game uses the Cell but quite a few utilize it's capability, same could be compared with the Wiimote. - stonr2, on 10/29/2007, -2/+6thats because the CELL is capable of dividing by zero.
- mokkos, on 10/27/2007, -2/+6Why are you being dugg down for something relatively true? Scotty87 couple levels up and above states the truth.
- TonyCubed, on 10/27/2007, -4/+8I hope you die.
- smackhero, on 10/27/2007, -2/+6umm... that's because the PS3 was released later, so the development for the ps3 port started later.
- eryximachus, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4The cel processor is not like that - it is much more specialized. There is only one true general purpose core, you must write software specifically to use the remaining cores.
- Adamacus, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Seriously? No love for Haze? Same people as Golden eye, perfect dark and timesplitters... Asymmetric multiplayer... thought provoking story-line...
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Because people on Digg are ***** idiots, thats why.
- staticneuron, on 10/26/2007, -2/+6Eldavidos, no... this game is NOT a port and it is made by a vary TALENTED company.
- miyakohouou, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3They are making a big deal about using all of the SPUs, not just using the cell processor. That's a big deal because a lot of games just use the cell like a single core PPC CPU, or maybe use 1 or 2 of the SPUs.
- dualscreenman, on 10/27/2007, -8/+11Don't all games that run on the PS3 "utilize" the Cell Processor. I don't know how they could run otherwise (you know, lacking a CPU and all) unless the game was run entirely off of the GPU. Title should say "Cell utilized *well*"
Oh, wait, I'm getting a newsflash here. I missed a marketing buzzword. Dammit. - mobislink, on 10/29/2007, -1/+4I have a PS3 and love it. I just wish they would hype the games to people who don't have a PS3. Look at the hype for Halo 3. I'm sure it is a good game but It sold mostly because the marketing department did there job. I don't have an Xbox 360 and even I knew the release date.
- Tejiant, on 10/27/2007, -1/+4At 86.7% power it will enter the 4th dimension they talked about.
- apoc06, on 10/26/2007, -0/+3see the comments left by tacklebox above for proof.
- Topher06, on 10/29/2007, -1/+4Screw off. If you owned a PS3, you would see on a weekly basis they have trailers, demos, behind the scenes making of videos, and more marketing about Uncharted and a slew of other games then you can shake a stick at. I am tired of every news report about the PS3 being hounded by mindless automatons feeling the need to crap on any news about the PS3 without any idea what they are talking about. Get a clue and realize that Sony heavily markets their games to the people most vested in actually buying the games instead of bitching and complaining about how inferior they are to Halo 3. And if you owned a PS3 you would be raving about it too. The only reason Microsoft and Nintendo doesn't boast about their hardware is because 1 in three Xboxes get returned to Microsoft as bricks and the Wii is slightly beefier then an overclocked Gamecube. Hardly anything to rave about. The PS3 is the only game console that actually used next generation technology, so I give them a little credit to boast about it.
- eryximachus, on 10/27/2007, -1/+3Yeah, no kidding. Splinter Cell? Bleh.
- BabyWookie, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2Actually, Oblivion is a pretty bad example. It simply featured the engine improvements that could've been easily added to the 360 version as well, without compromising the performance in any way.
- JayD16, on 10/26/2007, -2/+4Yeah, I get the feeling I'll want more puzzles but I'll get more gun play. Oh well, I'm sure it will be good either way.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/27/2007, -1/+3Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Motorstorm, Resistence, Warhawk, etc. are just ports, huh?
- ptaylor, on 10/27/2007, -1/+3Warhawk is alive and well, beleive me. The game is still appointment-missing, lawn-overgrown, dirty-dishes-fill-the-sink addictive. They are about to drop two patches this year where the later will add 5 more maps as well as Dualshock 3 support. I guess Sony knows that many people will be importing their Dualshocks from Japan, so it's cool to see that they are allowing the devs to support it now versus being "difficult" and adding support for US gamers next year.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -1/+3consider getting the ***** out of the house then
- apoc06, on 10/27/2007, -1/+3use your own judgement and dont give in to what trolls say.
