- Battleloser, on 10/11/2007, -22/+925The life of a thief is definetly worth less than a PS3. Those things are ***** expensive.
- jacksons98, on 10/11/2007, -22/+490I feel if you attempt to steal from someone they have the right to defend their property in any way possible. I like this line from the parents. "If he (the burglar) would have had a gun, I could have lost one of my children." It's actually the burglar that should be happy the kid didn't have a gun.
- happyfundave, on 10/11/2007, -12/+412@Sharkytech
But doesn't one still have a right to defend their own house. If someone breaks into my house with a crowbar I'd sure as hell stab them with a sword. - charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -13/+386@nimrod,
I have thought about this at great length, which is why I am prepared should anyone KICK IN MY DOOR! I will not allow someone who kicks in my door to abduct my 4 year old son or 1 year old daughter. I will not allow someone who kicks in my door to rape my wife, kill my wife, kill my kids, kill me. This is why I will shoot first and ask questions later.
As you can see, the boy in the video made the right move and stabbed the dude as he was coming through the door, and who knows, maybe he saved his and his sister's life in the process. We don't know, but why would you take the chance when someone has kicked your door down. Obviously, to anyone who's capable of deep thought, when someone kicks your door in it's a pretty safe bet that they aren't there to deliver a pie or give you a high five.
When your family is killed, murdered, or abducted because you said to the guy that broke into your house, "let's think about this for a moment, is this civilized behavior" to which he replied, "No, it's not" and then he continued to rape beat and murder your family, then you might feel a little different. Clearly anyone kicking in your door will not be deterred by kind words and some warm milk. They've already made their decision, now it's time for you to make yours.
I've thought through what I would do in this situation, because as a husband, parent, and human being, it's my job to protect those that I live with. I will die trying to do just that. That doesn't make me Chuck Norris, it just makes me a person who loves my family more than some douche bag who would be dumb enough to kick my door in.
Moral of the story, that kid who stabbed the intruder is a hero, and he kicks ass (or stabs chest as it were) in my book. - EternalDarkWing, on 10/11/2007, -19/+370Sharky, there is no way to know if they are carrying a concealed weapon. It's for the best to defend yourself.
- charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -19/+316Sharky, you live in denial that there are bad people in this world, who when they break into your house may do bad things to your family. If anyone breaks into my house, they are as good as dead. I will shoot first and ask questions later, period. Anyone kicking my door in is living on borrowed time. If someone kicks your door in, why take a chance on one of your family members being raped or killed?

Breaking into a home is primitive. We are forced to live in a world where people (who know that is wrong) will break into an occupied home to steal something that they know is not theirs. If you are scared of getting shot while breaking into someone's house, don't break into anyone's house. Its that simple. - aralls, on 10/11/2007, -7/+225Jack Thopson's gonna go after all swordfighting video games now...
Watch out, Zelda. - ask03, on 10/11/2007, -5/+176In Florida (where the crime took place) we passed a "Castle Doctrine" a couple of years back where if someone breaks into your house, you are pretty much free to shoot first and ask questions later.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Doctrine
The provision also applies to public places where one has a right to be, which led to fears that it would be a Wild-West style shootout here, but I haven't heard of any real abuses like this yet. - Sirocco, on 10/11/2007, -9/+163>> this is primitive behavior and in no way affiliated with the way of life today
I'd say breaking into a house is "primitive" behavior. - glasnostic, on 10/11/2007, -14/+163Wow, an actual documented case of video games causing violence.
- ChronicColonic, on 10/11/2007, -6/+141It's a good thing it was a PS3 and not a Wii. How would that headline look? "Burglar Gets Stabbed Taking a Wii"
- cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+125What pisses me off about this story is that the kid that did the break in got charged with 3 felonies and got let out on bail. That ain't right.
- BasharTeg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+122@SharkyTech
I'm not a "redneck", a gun owner, a Republican, etc. I'm a registered Democrat from California. But Castle Doctrine is the best policy for any state IMO. If you break into someones house, you are the aggressor and your motive is greed. You shouldn't be able to claim victim status because you got more than you bargained for. It's like those ***** ***** who break into stores and then sue the store when they get injured on the property. When in the act of committing such a bold theft, you should forfeit your safety unless you are plainly and openly surrendering. People should have the right to gun down someone who breaks into their home at night, period. - MWeather, on 10/11/2007, -33/+151"I feel if you attempt to steal from someone they have the right to defend their property in any way possible."
That's why I shot the 8 year old brat down the street when he tried to steal my lawn gnome. - Bartboy919, on 10/11/2007, -5/+108He should have hit his weak point for massive damage.
- maticus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+105@nimsim
"To think before you act is what makes us human."
That's true, but in some circumstances taking the time to think before acting will make you a dead human. - illuminatiwatch, on 10/11/2007, -4/+106freaking out some drug fiend felon with a samurai sword... priceless
- Fistanditilus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+88it's just a flesh wound...
- Nocturnalis, on 10/11/2007, -13/+91Javier Cotera got WTFPWND!
- SnuKs, on 10/11/2007, -3/+80Im with the pops on this one... I'm afraid that the guy is out of jail. Hopefully there is not retaliation attempt towards this kid or his family by the friends of this thug.
- violentvinyl, on 10/11/2007, -2/+76@happyfundave (#7142312) said: "If someone breaks into my house with a crowbar I'd sure as hell stab them with a sword."
If someone breaks into your house with a crowbar, you sick the headcrabs on him. - daedalus1982, on 10/11/2007, -5/+74@ jacksons98
"It's actually the burglar that should be happy the kid didn't have a gun."
now if that had happened we know Jack Thompson would have been all over this about how the boy played his PlayStation 3 to plan out his attack before brutally gunning down this innocent bystander.
@ nimsim
"this is primitive behavior and in no way affiliated with the way of life today"
you wake up. something shattered near where you'd guess to be your kitchen. you live in bum-***** nowhere and consequently the cops can't even find your house. you hear a door being opened and the crunch of glass on linoleum signaling that the deadbolt on the glass paned kitchen door wasn't all that hard for this lib. arts major to figure out and he is now walking through your home.
civilized and advanced as you are, you own no gun. calm in your logic that to get up and do something would be uncouth and barbaric you go back to sleep because they couldn't possibly take from you anything that couldn't be replaced. besides you don't want to shoot first and ask questions later, Hell! he might have even broken in just to do the dishes.
i really don't understand you people some times. its like you've completely forgotten the world we live in today. you sit there in front of your computer so and call a person that defends himself and his home "retarded"
feel raped one day as you come home to a gutted apartment to find all that was once yours, is gone. enjoy that night sleeping where you used to feel safe. Feel that vulnerable. Feel that unprotected in a place you still have to live. i hope you have children when this happens. i hope it shakes you.
and more importantly, i hope you and your family don't get physically hurt. but just know that i won't judge you when you go out the next day and buy the biggest damn handgun they have on the wall. - norman619, on 10/11/2007, -7/+72He should have gone Mortal Combat on him. FINISH HIM!!!
- Makubex, on 10/11/2007, -3/+63Moral of the story:
Do not, under any circumstances, rely on Hiro Nakamura to protect you from burglars while sleeping. - aliengoods, on 10/11/2007, -12/+65He went in looking for a 360, or a Wii, but the PS3 was all he could find.
- lukehh, on 10/11/2007, -1/+52choice quote
"a K-9 officer located the burglar hiding behind a neighbor's palm tree."
you can't see me...... - djruden, on 10/11/2007, -6/+51Not even that, just 1 hit point.
- rexCo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+46There can be only one.
- drake77, on 10/11/2007, -3/+45FTA: "Javier Cotera, 21, was arrested and released early the next morning on bond."
So this guy pulls a home-invasion and "ransacked" someone's house and then was let free the next morning on bail?
This is crazy - MeThePeople, on 10/11/2007, -6/+46thanks for clearing that up i thought red steel was a type of cheese
- draculthemad, on 10/11/2007, -2/+39If someone breaks into an occupied home, isn't that a "home invader" and not just a "burglar"?
No sympathy at all for this guy, hes lucky he didnt catch a load of buckshot in his chest like he would if he tried that ***** in my house.
P.S.: I'm a liberal.
P.P.S. Yes, liberals own guns too, and we know how to use them. - connorcrehan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+38I guess training on those giant enemy crabs is working out for him.
- andyrobo60, on 10/11/2007, -3/+37If I did that in the UK I would be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+36"Guy deserves it. To bad that sword did not go into his chest deep enough to end his burglarizing days."
Digg confuses the ***** out of me. Yesterday I was dugg down for agreeing to the death penalty for murderers, yet everyone agrees with killing someone who tries to steal a game console? I agree with the quote above me, but what's with the double standards digg? - gamelab, on 10/11/2007, -15/+48If the kid was playing the wii and with all the hand exercise, maybe the sword would have gone through the burglar. I guess the burglar just lost one life.
- bobcrotch, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32Yeah they have to make room in the jails for the war on drugs, duh.
- ModernTenshi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+29Yeah, but I think you'd really take someone by surprise if you pulled a friggin samurai sword on them. That's what seems to have happened with this guy, since the kid said the guy was completely taken by surprise when he stabbed him.
"Not as clumsy or random as a blaster, but an elegant weapon for a more civilized age." - arenas46, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28@tubejay
You have to admit, it would be damn awesome if someone came in your house to give you a pie or a high-five! - alpha94, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28The guy was caught but let out on bond the next day? WTF?
- shredswithpiks, on 10/11/2007, -6/+32"I feel if you attempt to steal from someone they have the right to defend their property in any way possible. I like this line from the parents. This only works inside your home if you live in a state with a "make my day" law. Unfortunately (the way it is, not the way I want it to be) you are not legally allowed to booby trap your belongings (like putting razors on your car stereo system) and stuff like that. If someone mugs you with fists you are not under legal reasonable force to shoot them to death to save your wallet.
If someone is breaking into your home, however, you have no idea what the dude's intentions are. Assume the worse and defend yourself however you possibly can.
This kid is a badass. - Ibanezfoo, on 10/11/2007, -5/+30Shame the kid didn't pull out a nice shotgun and waste the pieces of trash that tried to rob him. Theres just not enough killing of bad guys these days...
- Stano, on 10/11/2007, -5/+30Guns are better. Shotguns are best for home protection. Messy though.
- Wabem, on 10/11/2007, -7/+31Er... Red Steel is a game for the Wii...
- Daniel591992, on 10/11/2007, -13/+37Imagine if the strap broke and killed the burger?
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24What drives me crazy is when these criminals have the nerve to sue the peopel they were trying to burglurize for injuring them. I remember a firearms class I ws taking for my gun permit. The instructor told us "I never told you this... But if you pull your gun on an intruder in your home you better make sure you kill him." He then went into how these guys have been known to terrorize their victems later via the court system and many times they wind up winning.
- anzhansen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Twenty years ago geeks would have had to beat the burglars off with huge calculators...
- kanimara, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22When you stab someone with a samauri sword, and they "get freaked out" then you're not doing it right. They shouldn't get freaked out they should get dead.
- epyon8282, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22That's awesome!!! Good for that kid defending his home.....and of course his PS3!!!!!
- masterkenobi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21Why's everyone talking about shooting the guy? He should have lopped the guy's head off with his sword...Highlander style :D
