- Shuk, on 10/11/2007, -7/+32Damnit Sony! You need at least one hard hitting exclusive for the Christmas season! You did so well last generation! What happened???
- misshapes, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22Wasn't this already established back when they announced for fiscal earnings/projections a while back?
They said there wasn't going to be a FF game released until after their fiscal year ended in March (?) '08. - catalysis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21FF12 was released less than a year ago. I don't think FF13 was ever scheduled for this year. Square Enix has never released 2 final fantasy games in the same year.
- Sparke, on 10/11/2007, -7/+19MGS 4?
- Ndiggnation, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11But we do rushed comments.
- Nidis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12It usually takes a -lot- of -killer- titles to convince people a system is worth its price... and... well, as you can guess in this case, they'll need a lot of. Those are the kind of games that are great fun once a system has proved its longevity and survivability, but won't break in new users. The kind of game that would though, is Final Fantasy.
- thomasthecat, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12Just gives me more time to save up for a PS3, I guess.
- carpespasm, on 10/11/2007, -13/+20they got arrogant as hell, assumed everyone is ok with spending rent on a video game system, and decided to screw their customers over with DRM and bad formats along with lawsuits from the RIAA on their music side.
- estvir, on 10/11/2007, -13/+20Go to the Xbox360, seems like the best choice for the FF series marketing/politics aside.
- Zoxy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+13Only if that is the only game you want to play. There are still games like Lair, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, and MG4 coming out this year.
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9Square-Enix commented that they have no intention of releasing a Final Fantasy game for 360.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I don't know what people were thinking expecting a new FF game already.
FF12 finally came out and it was delayed several times. Plus now that they are Square-Enix and not just Squaresoft anymore they time their releases so FF sales don't conflict with Dragon Quest sales.
Japan might get FF13 in 2008 but the US will be lucky to see it late 2008, if not early 2009. - skyteria, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Umm...since when has a FF ever been released on it's first announced release date? IX maybe, but FF regularly get delayed. I'm not a PS3 fan either, but this correlates in no way to it's performance.
- YouRookies, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Haha, got me.
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Heavenly Sword, Lair, or Ratchet and Clank. Sony, one of those 3 had better be to die for.
- Synn, on 10/11/2007, -7/+11They decided to stop caring about video games, and start caring about pushing their disk format.
- jeepnut24, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3He offered him FF early on the PS3???
- cajie, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6I just picked up a PS3 yesterday. Was I wrong?
The built-in blu-ray is bloody amazing. - JDoggqx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Wasn't FF12 released in Japan over a year ago? It was the US translation that took much longer and resulted in a later release. I bet the US release will be even later than the estimated release like all other FF releases. Japan always gets them first by a good stretch.
- MWeather, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah, I can see it now FF13 on 360, a 36 DVD set!
- UberC, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4yes this is old news
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3.... why would it NOT be news?
- waywrong, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Because Final Fantasy XIII is only IP in SE's propriety; and because Dragon Quest sales, and FF sales for the Wii/DS will make no money at all for Square Enix, mirite?
- staticneuron, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Lair, heavenly sword, sigma, getaway, warhawk, and ratchet & clank around this summer. Uncharted, wipeout, mgs4 and a few others are scheduled to arrive before end of year. Thats more than 5 and I am waiting to see what news comes out of E3.
- Bodhesatva, on 10/11/2007, -22/+24This is usually referred to as the spiral of death. The process goes like this:
1) The system does not sell very well after launch.
2) The major titles for the platform push their release dates back, both to offer more development time and to wait for a larger install base.
3) The system sells even worse because the major titles have been postponed.
4) The major titles for the platform get pushed even farther back.
5) The system sells even worse.
6) The major titles are either never released or, more often, are released but ported to more successful consoles.
We're on step 5 right now, by the way. Both MGS and Final Fantasy XIII have been pushed back twice (or more). In order to jump start console sales, Sony needs to have a slew of major titles released. Those major titles have an extremely high risk of doing poorly, but someone has to bite the bullet; if Sony is expecting SquareEnix or Konami to do it for them, they're mistaken. Sony is going to need to rely on its own games. Luckily, they have some serious heavy hitters, such as Ratchet and Clank, Lair, Heavenly Sword, and even Gran Turismo (the biggest one of all) farther down the line. - staticneuron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Why bother? In the last generation the xbox captured a few crossover titles and they were not recieved well. So now a few Jrpg's are heading this way. Once again you will need to speak with your money. If the fanbase shows no interest in the genre then mast japanese companies would consider it a wast of time and resources to make this game multiplatform. "We have a bigger installed base" just doesn't cut it. It needs to be " We have a bigger installed base." and actually purchase these games. Until this starts to happen these crys of multiplatform ports only seems like fanboyish bickering.
- Zoxy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Name the 15 "AAA" titles that are only on the 360.
- Rileyper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Dude the FF11 HD was a failure for the ps2 in the first place, the slim came a year and a half after the game You LIEING SON OF A HATER
- MWeather, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1How is Sony's DRM worse than Nintendo or Microsoft's?
- slaystench, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Fiscal Year - A 12-month period for which an organization plans the use of its funds.
- KenDigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Right, just like how the long wait time for Final Fantasy XII ruined them. Final Fantasy fans are more than willing to wait for the next installment.
In the meantime, we can play Final Fantasy I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, and several spin offs on our PS3s thanks to backwards compatability. - Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2sata, Kingsoonie, allow me to summarize both your posts:
"Wah wah wah, FF went to ***** after the SNES/PS1, I am obviously a hardcore gamer because I hate any FF made after the SNES/PS1. How dare Squaresoft/Square-Enix make a 20 year old gameplay formula different, its not like they own MY game franchise! How dare the game not play the same way it did back in the NES days?" - RoroCo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4How about get over yourselves and start making your games cross platform. It is not like RPGs are that difficult to make cross platform.
If SE wants to play with the big boys like EA, Activision, Sega, and UbiSoft this generation, they have to learn that not one console will rule the market. If you truly want to be successful, you have to make games across all platforms...or at east get a fat paycheck from one of the guys to soften the hit. - qwerty1024, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2There goes the 2+ millions japanese sales that the FF titles always gets by default
- Rileyper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Your Mom Sucks
- slaystench, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2The only way this would be a "nail in their coffin" would be if Square-Enix announced that FF 13 was going to the 360.
- Rileyper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1BE PATIENT...E3 is coming up
- Rileyper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Because your in the wrong topic to flame people
- deaftly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0hate to break it to you, madden is still coming out for ps3, enjoy another 360 port
- Zoxy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Wth with these double posts.
- rhino369, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Ghost Recon is better IMO.
- evozero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1the ps3 will turn the nails into a molten ***** and rape the x360.
- darkzealot89, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Why the digg downs? After all the Wii and 360 are the market leaders. The PS3 has less and less of a chance to catch up to them everyday.
- ericrous, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2No, it will still work as a blu-ray player when Sony abandons the game system.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2They said the same thing about FF11 until Sony screwed them over with the HDD-less slim PS2.
And they said they have no intention of FF on the 360 right now, which makes sense since they are concentrating on Crisis Core and FF13. - JDoggqx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Wasn't MGS4 announced to be released in '08 too?
- kaynesan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Wow, what a shock?
I wouldn't have bet with a 2009 US-release anyway. - Bega, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5Cool with me, no rush, take your time squeenix, so I can have another great FF.
- ericrous, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Looks like Sony marketing has learned what the "red thumb" button means.
Don't knock it. It's the first thing they've gotten right in a long time. - Gr00veMerchant, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3I honestly don't think Sony cares whether or not they win the console battle. The console battle is small potatoes. The battle they're trying to win is the HD-DVD v. Blu-Ray battle, and the PS3 is an instrument for doing that, and nothing more. PS3's in the household mean more Blu-Ray players, and there's a lot more money to be had by movies than by games. It's unfortunate, but any $600/$700 attempt in the gaming arena really couldn't have been interpreted as a serious attempt anyway.
