- kilikogo, on 11/11/2007, -1/+74Lighter?!? That thing's already just like a DVD case!
- dagooh, on 11/13/2007, -0/+69I totally skipped that generation of consoles (I don't own a gamecube, ps2 or xbox), when this new ps2 model reaches 100 bucks I'm going to get one and all the discounted games I can get my hands on.
- TangentThought, on 11/11/2007, -4/+58I'm incredibly surprised that they could be the thing any lighter than it already is.
- MyNamesTaken, on 11/11/2007, -5/+56Its amazing the way Sony keep supporting their old consoles. Hasn't Microsoft completely abandoned the original Xbox.
- otatop, on 11/08/2007, -1/+46They abandoned the Xbox as soon as the 360 came out. They also didn't sell 120 million of them, and have 8,000 games to get rich off of.
- PeteBeast, on 11/09/2007, -1/+43Oh, so this is the version that can literally get blown out the window if it werent for the cables.
- PainToad, on 11/11/2007, -8/+46Lol
Sony: "What PS3? We know nothing, never happened" - adamrgolf, on 11/08/2007, -5/+38Um, this looks exactly like the slim ps2 i already have... Am I missing something?
- nbnz, on 11/11/2007, -0/+30This one has an internal power supply in stead of the external brick.
- furto, on 11/08/2007, -0/+29and you sir, are the target market.
- jermo, on 11/11/2007, -0/+27Who are these people that are spending all of their time carting their PS2 around and demanding that they make it lighter?
- tastypastry, on 11/08/2007, -5/+29If the price point is $100 here in the US then I just might pick one up to preserve the original PS2.
- coyote1284, on 11/09/2007, -1/+22How can I get the XBOX in Oblivion? Please link to this hack.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 11/10/2007, -0/+20I have to say, my slim ps2 IS a little weird vertical, what with its flip-top lid that fires out sideways when I go to change games. It's definitely bitchslapped my wii next to it once or twice until I moved it over.
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -0/+19i don't think they need to push it seeing that all 3 new consoles have it.
- adamrgolf, on 11/13/2007, -0/+16Lol,
"Anyway, that's a pretty crap article to link to."
however, your links are gold! --
first one redirects to main page
2nd one does not show pic like u state.
3rd one = 404.
but, the original link for this is lame too... so w/e - aussieNickuss, on 11/11/2007, -0/+15And here I am with my big ass 5 year old PS2 thats larger than my surround receiver.
- Tippis, on 11/08/2007, -1/+16They also need something to fill that PS2-compatability hole that the cheaper PS3 models are generating... Of course, non-BC PS3 + new PS2 pretty much equates to the same cost as an old fully-features PS3. ;P
- sint4x, on 11/08/2007, -0/+13+1 for the vivid visual
- manfrin, on 11/11/2007, -11/+24PS3 is failing, PS2 is making them cash.
- TheTjalian, on 11/11/2007, -7/+20You morons, that isn't a picture of the new Playstation 2, that's just showing the other 2 Playstation 2s. The new PS2 is shown in a Gamasutra link below.
Anyway, that's a pretty crap article to link to. It doesn't even announce the prices for other markets either. The prices are...
GBP 94.99
EUR 129.99
USD 99.99
The console will see a drop in weight from 850 grams to 720 grams.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/28753/New-low-price-comp ... - tektalk, on 11/08/2007, -0/+13Wow, now all they have to do is include a paperweight with it so it won't blow away.
- Klarth, on 11/07/2007, -0/+12£100 for the UK, £50 for the US. What a ***** horrible deal for us.
It's import time! - Harbinger67, on 11/08/2007, -0/+11Making this thing lighter just seems silly. I mean, my current slimline is currently stuck to the wall using 3 large 3M Command Strip adhesive thingys; I think that's proof positive that any lighter is sort of unnecessary.
- Archaic1, on 11/11/2007, -2/+13That's what she said
- Paroparo, on 11/08/2007, -0/+10The reason the PS2 is still seeing support while the Xbox and Gamecube aren't is that the PS2 sold 120M, while the others did only slightly over 20M. Consoles that sell good live long, consoles that sell (relatively) badly don't.
- senatebuddy, on 11/07/2007, -1/+11thats weird i thought they already made a lighter playstation...
- Scabdates, on 11/13/2007, -0/+9Playstation 2 is definitely still at the top of the console world even with all of these seventh-gen consoles running around.
- peterjmag, on 11/07/2007, -6/+15Why does Sony insist on pushing this "vertical stand" idea?
- jayfarer, on 11/07/2007, -2/+10It's actually not obsolete anymore - Sony is taking backwards compatibility out of future PS3 models.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 11/07/2007, -1/+9GameWafer 2.
- Lubinski, on 11/07/2007, -2/+10They will probably sell more of these than the ps3's.
- BruceBogtrotter, on 11/07/2007, -0/+7The one you are thinking of(the PS2 Slim) has been out since 2004 in just about all major countries, not just New Zealand. So don't worry we haven't been missing out. This is supposedly a totaly new one.
The one in the picture does look like that one though. - iFungus, on 11/07/2007, -0/+7Call it the new PSP.
- JohnyD, on 11/07/2007, -3/+10They abandoned the Xbox because it had XBMC.... and there's just no way in hell to beat that. ;)
- insllvn, on 11/08/2007, -0/+6$600 price tag, no rumble, "It's a PS3, it doesn't matter if it is good, people will want it" attitude, I am sure some Wii & 360 fanboy's can help supply any public relations missteps I am forgetting. It is a little bit their fault. That said, I actually do want a PS3, and will pick one up in time for Metal Gear 4, oh sweet , sweet Metal Gear 4...........
- BryanJK, on 11/07/2007, -1/+7its even more smaller! :P
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -1/+7The difference is that the power supply is now integrated. Here is a more detailed story on the new SCPH-90000:
http://www.i4u.com/article12618.html - FoxOrian, on 11/07/2007, -0/+6The photo also looks like a recycled shot from the original PS2 Slim unveiling. The new one does look exactly the same minus the brick, [and the silver one looks pretty nice,] and it has a better vertical stand. I never liked how the original PS2 Slim had such a huge foot-pad of a stand -- it kind of defeated the purposes of it being slim in the first place. This stand is still sold separately, though... meaning no one is really going to buy it.
- HenvY, on 11/07/2007, -0/+6UK always gets screwed. ***** Sony.
- JudgeMonkey, on 11/08/2007, -1/+6If you think we can't see that "Hello my name is Sony fanboy" name tag.... you are sorely mistaken.
- WernerCD, on 11/08/2007, -7/+12No... this is the "We got cocky and forgot that consoles are about games (and not mini-pc-multi-media-centers with the extra benefit of games) so lets continue to milk the good thing we had while the crap we have struggles" phase.
- RevToTheRedline, on 11/07/2007, -0/+5Who doesn't yet have a PS2 that they need to come out yet ANOTHER one?
- Rileyper, on 11/13/2007, -1/+6wow, your demanding
- kevyn, on 11/11/2007, -0/+5with an internal power supply I can't believe its actually lighter! thats sweet.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 11/07/2007, -0/+5$140? Someone's gettin ripped off, I got my slim ps2 6 months ago for $120.
- indiephoenix, on 11/07/2007, -0/+5But those can work naturally like that. Even the original PS2 model could because of the disc tray. However, it just seems a little awkward doing that to something with a spring-loaded, flip-top lid.
- DagMX, on 11/08/2007, -1/+6no they're supporting it because the PS2 is still selling a lot. Its not about how much it sold previously, its about thinking about keeping it selling to get more money...precious money...
- KrustyTClown, on 11/07/2007, -1/+6you are a Moron. This is not the same slim line that you have, it's a new smaller model.
- scabbers, on 11/07/2007, -0/+5Holy *****, when is that console ever going to ***** die? It still costs the same in the UK as it has for the last 5 years.
