- krische, on 12/07/2007, -5/+48Although there is a lot of the conflict between the Blu ray profiles, it doesn't seem to be much concern since most people are using the PS3 as their Blu ray player. Just roll out a firmware update and they can update the Blu ray profile on the PS3.
- DiggOrNotToDigg, on 12/07/2007, -12/+53I am waiting for my Wii DVD Profile 1.1
- dansmeek, on 12/07/2007, -4/+41if you own an xbox, i believe you sign a contract that says you are not allowed to have any positive feelings towards the PS3
- charlescheese, on 12/07/2007, -24/+60This is yet another reason I love my PS3. I think it's so cool that as time goes by I'll be able to update my game system/bluray player to have the latest greatest features all over wifi. I've never had a dvd/movie playback device where features would be continually added. This is awesome and makes being an early adopter feel so much better.
- LeftE, on 12/07/2007, -0/+26Indeed, in theory the PS3 could upgrade all the way to Profile 2, since it has internet connectivity. Pretty cool for such a maligned device released over a year ago! If only all other consumer devices could be upgraded with firmware like that, heh. Think about upgrading your old receiver with DTS Master Audio or your iPod to play OGG or something (hardware incompatibilities notwithstanding)
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -11/+33Now that is pretty cool :)
- TheG2, on 12/07/2007, -6/+28HD-DVD also does this, welcome to the connected age.
- AvidPreatorian, on 12/07/2007, -11/+33How can you not love this machine?
- charlescheese, on 12/07/2007, -12/+31Excuse me for talking about something I like and own in a PS3 thread. Maybe you should just go click on a thread about something you like instead of being a rotten prick?
- superkendall, on 12/07/2007, -8/+23You have to do that with HD-DVD players too, and it used to be the same with DVD players to handle some newer discs. Get a clue.
- charlescheese, on 12/07/2007, -7/+22Huh? Maybe you should read the article. I don't HAVE to upgrade the firmware on ANYTHING. I can if I WANT to unlock the features in profile 1.1 on disks that support it. People with profile 1 can still watch all bluray releases including releases with 1.1 support, they just don't get access to the extra features.
If I could get a room, I'd do it, but now I want you to watch me molest my PS3 because I know it makes you mad when people say they like something they own.
When did it become unacceptable to express how we feel about something we own and like? Are we only allowed to sit on digg and bash the ***** we don't like? It sounds like you don't have a PS3, so what the ***** are you doing in this thread anyway? Oh right, you're here to bash something you don't have, and likely never spent more than five minutes using.
You must be one of those guys with shoulder length black hair and lipstick who sits around punching babies and ripping on people who don't hate life like you do. Am I right? - inactive, on 12/07/2007, -4/+18Except the part where the 360's hvdvd drive doesnt and most standalone players dont either.
- superkendall, on 12/07/2007, -2/+16It's also an illustration of how powerful it is to have a device with lots of computer power handy to be able to do anything you want.
- krische, on 12/07/2007, -4/+18in the stores
- BattleScars, on 12/07/2007, -0/+12No, the first thing that comes into your mind is: "OMFG PS3 sucks ass cos itz ***** and I h8 it, me go post ***** on interwebs now so I is feel better about self"
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -1/+12And that $400 bluray player would be the PS3. And is upgradeable to 1.1 and beyond
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -2/+13You need to change the word HDDVD and BluRay around. BluRay is selling an asstonne better than HDDVD. The HDDVD has a lot of catching up to do at this point.
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -4/+15And the 360 has almost no exclusives. Most are ported to the PC, or came out on the PCfirst. Almost any game i can get on the 360 i can get on the PS3 OR the PC. At least with a PS3 i HAVE exclusives.
- mywhitenoise, on 12/07/2007, -0/+11I know seriously! What the ***** were they thinking using UMD? That's almost as stupid as the DS using flash cards for their games.
GET IT THROUGH YOUR ***** HEAD, UMD is ONLY for PSP. They weren't trying to market it anywhere outside of the PSP. - airburst, on 12/07/2007, -3/+12And? Welcome to the world of the early adopter.
- mywhitenoise, on 12/07/2007, -0/+10I know seriously, blu-ray was beating hd-dvd nearly 3:1, around black friday. Blu-ray is doomed!
- opticsnake, on 12/07/2007, -0/+10You do get that the profiles they are talking about are standards (like versions) and not a profile like as in your "myspace profile", right?
- retrovertigo, on 12/07/2007, -7/+17Don't bother defending yourself and your comments. These guys are miserable pricks who like to take potshots at you anonymously over the internet. If you said something like that face-to-face, they'd probably nod their heads in agreement and once you were out of earshot they'd talk smack about you. Dubious two-faced bastards.
- BattleScars, on 12/07/2007, -0/+9Else you telepathically induce a RRoD.
- BattleScars, on 12/07/2007, -6/+15Don't you think your being a little melodramatic?
- krische, on 12/07/2007, -2/+11In all reality, I could care less about the new features of the profiles. I really only get movies to watch the movie. I don't care for all of bonus and flashy content. But still nice to know its there for those who want it.
- MWeather, on 12/07/2007, -0/+9"Why pay twice as much for what is, in the best case scenario, a "just as good as" experience?"
Because it has more studio support. I couldn't care less if the movie experience is identical if the movie isn't available. - inactive, on 12/07/2007, -2/+10Long and tedious? If you know there is an update, ie, you visit digg, before you get home. Turn on the PS3 and update before you go eat or something. It takes like 7 minutes to do the whole update anyway. I dont know whats so "long and tedious" about that.
- Adgeman, on 12/07/2007, -2/+10including Need4Speed which it looks like you're a fan of.
This whole thing about there not being any games is such crap - I've got 360 and PS3 and find myself spending half my time on each. For games with online use I'll go for the 360 since there's a larger user base but I've been able to spend a lot of time enjoying Motor Storm, Ratchet & Clank, Resistence, FIFA 08, Lego Star Wars (wife's favourite) and so on on the PS3. To say there aren't any games is just dull fanboy talk; lighten up; they're just games consoles. - JayD16, on 12/07/2007, -6/+14Twice as much? Thats a bit of an exaggeration. HD DVD backers like to complain about bluray specs but the only difference between 1.1 and 2.0 is an internet connection and I don't really see the point in it. You'll still be able to watch movies no matter what.
- AvidPreatorian, on 12/07/2007, -1/+9hehe are u waiting on it too? or are u just here to be an ass?
- staticneuron, on 12/07/2007, -0/+8Crap! I knew I should have read the fine print.
- retrovertigo, on 12/07/2007, -3/+11You just proved my point. Thank you for participating.
- theaceoffire, on 12/07/2007, -2/+10Yeah, its amazing how removing features from silver accounts doesn't require a lot of bandwidth.
- JayD16, on 12/07/2007, -0/+8First, I dont think home is out until spring 08. (don't quote me) Second, just to add some incite, PS3 updates are long because they update the entire firmware instead of parts of it. This supposedly reduces the chance of bricking.
- Ub3rg33k, on 12/07/2007, -2/+10I completely agree. Sony would be stupid not to do it. However, the title is downright misleading. If you report it as fact that its coming out for Christmas and it doesn't, then people will be pissed. I'm sure it will happen evenetually, but I'd wait for an official press release before declairing a date.
- mywhitenoise, on 12/07/2007, -0/+7I'm sure that'll go well with Netflix, Blockbuster, and Hollywood video...dumbass.
- BattleScars, on 12/07/2007, -1/+8You can't spare 7 ***** minutes of your life?
- MWeather, on 12/07/2007, -0/+7The PS3 is still a good deal if you just want a movie machine. What other Media server/ blu-ray player/ dvd & CD ripper can you get for $400?
Especially one that works with a portable player over the internet. - BattleScars, on 12/07/2007, -3/+10Yeah, the world sucks, everyone hates you, life is horrible....go cry emo kid.
- AvidPreatorian, on 12/07/2007, -7/+13acutally little boy, i own a good PC so every 360 "exclusive" i play on that (free torrent download), and all the ps3 exclusives and everything else, on the PS3. thanks for playing mate - Gears of War is great, and so is Uncharted.
- JayD16, on 12/07/2007, -1/+7Can it even play CDs?
- mywhitenoise, on 12/07/2007, -5/+11There's always one dumbass who has to state the obvious, isn't there?
Having Ratchet, Assassin's Creed, Call Of Duty 4, and Uncharted all in a 4 week period isn't enough games for you? - JayD16, on 12/07/2007, -0/+6How can you lose faith when theres been no information?
- staticneuron, on 12/07/2007, -2/+8"However, Blu-Ray is only making these changes to catch up to HD-DVD."
No these profiles were planned a long time ago. Arguements about things being intact from the get go leave little to merit. Just because there is inflexibility in one format doesn't mean there has to be one for all. The features aren't that important but even if they were the price of being an early adopter to any technology hasn't changed. Regaurdless of device we are talking about. - maninblac1, on 12/07/2007, -4/+10It's not if, but when, the PS3 already meets all the hardware requirements of 1.1, it would be foolish to not update it to 1.1 since it is so widely owned.
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -1/+7Thankfully the majority of Bluray users own a PS3. Crisis averted.
- krische, on 12/07/2007, -2/+7By baked do you mean RROD?
- selfdisplaced, on 12/07/2007, -1/+6I am waiting for Wii DVD Profile 0.01.a
- Zamfir, on 12/07/2007, -1/+6Playstation means a device that plays something to me... which could be movies, music, games, pictures... whatever the media... hit 'Play'... and it goes. It's not called a playGAMEstation.
I love all features and aspects of the PS3... I find it infinitely useful. -

What is Digg?
