- sigafoo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+47Why is this linked to a forum post and not a news site?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -13/+55This is big news for the PS3
- EDmAN, on 10/11/2007, -29/+70PS3 is definitely looking good after this conference... I guess Microsoft's propaganda hasn't convinced everyone.
- CReyes4182, on 10/11/2007, -9/+50Its about time with a custom unreal engine for the ps3 making shooters on the ps3 will be allot easier.
- ckmlb, on 10/11/2007, -30/+66Sony > MS on this by getting UT 3 on PS3 for 2007. The game is going to blow away Gears visually.
- YouRookies, on 10/11/2007, -3/+31God damn you fanboys need to get out of the house.
- jacksons98, on 10/11/2007, -4/+27@AwesomeMonster PS3 supports mouse and keyboard, there is no reason why it can't be in the game.
- Melf26, on 10/11/2007, -7/+29What a misleading title, the only thing "exclusive" to the PS3 is the console version of Unreal Tournament 3. (The game.) The engine isn't exclusive to anyone.
- taxman, on 10/11/2007, -10/+31"Sony sign exclusive deal with Epic for Unreal Engine"
Why do stories with blatant misleading titles get dug up? - jacksons98, on 10/11/2007, -7/+27Obviously Gears isn't as exclusive as you think since it is going to PC with the additional chapters that were left out because they couldn't fit on the disk for X360. Secondly mouse and keyboard is supported on PS3, no reason to believe Epic will leave that option off.
- Andir, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Unreal isn't all about shooters. I know it's a bad example, but Vanguard is on the Unreal 2.5 engine. I'm sure other games can easily be made.
- evildeadxsp, on 10/11/2007, -7/+24buried for inaccuracy. They really only got 2 things...
- a timed exclusive of Unreal Tournament 3 (The 360 version will hit first quarter of 2008)
- an exclusive "version" of the Unreal engine, which really isn't that special, considering the overall engine can still be used for 360 developed games.
it really isn't as special as your trying to make it sound.... (but still, it should help the struggling Sony a little bit) - Andir, on 10/11/2007, -5/+22Yup, there's something nice about a company using open standards as opposed to MS proprietary...
- CraigCarlyle, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20Buried as inaccurate. UT2007 is a timed exclusive.
Besides, it's a smart move for epic. Releasing UT2007 on the 360 around the same time that Halo 3, BioShock, the Orange Pack, Call of Duty 4, etc. would be a huge decrease in sales. - LaSepultura, on 10/11/2007, -9/+24I'm way confused. Didn't Microsoft say that they were building their Gamertag/Xbox Live system into the Unreal engine?
- charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15I don't think they did. I think they offered a lot of help on the U3E PLUS the ability to send maps from PC to PS3, which is huge. I think they're giving Epic a lot more freedom as far as what they want to do online. I think that's the big draw for Epic here. Maybe there's some money involved too, I certainly wouldn't rule it out. I just know that Epic is being allowed to do things on PS3 that 360 isn't allowing.
- crichton101, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15I'ld digg you down, but you make an interesting point, that until you got a 360 you were apparently enamored by your mother's taint. Just the concept that your mother's taint at some point in time was attractive to you until you got the 360 kind of scares the living ***** out of me. I hate to be your mother when the power in your house goes out and you can't play xbox.
- cloakeddagger, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14not to mention all this will mean that the openGL openAL parts of the engine will be getting priority meaning good things for the linux and macOS versions of unreal engine games....
woooo :) - Daemonport, on 10/11/2007, -9/+18Marked as inaccurate.
This is a frikin forum post, where is the article, the sources, where do we just accept things like this in fanboy wars? We don't.Why the hell are people digging this, DIGG DOWN! - geartype2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9had a nice comment written out, but really what does it matter? Digg hates sony.
- JagoX, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Macs aren't for having fun with games silly...they're for looking pretty on your desk as a paperweight. :-p
- coheedcollapse, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10The people who matter will. There are plenty of hardcore players and clans on the PS3 and the majority of people I've talked to have said that they'd hook up a keyboard and mouse to the PS3 to play FPS games in a second.
What's up your ass about the PS3 anyways? I don't recognize your name but you really seem to be going on the defensive. - nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11there are PS3 games based on the Epic engine too. The agreement is about optimizing the engine.
- samdu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Who was it that paid Rockstar 50 million dollars for extra downloadable content? Right. Thought so.
- xuanyan, on 10/11/2007, -9/+16Unreal 3 will be exclusive to PS3 'this year'. It will come out for other consoles later. http://www.psu.com/node/12031
- WhereAmI, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11We are ignorant because Sony signed a deal to have the Unreal Engine optimized for the PS3 and the timed exclusive of the game UT3? I am more confused than ignorant at your accusations.
- Protoss, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Uh...360 uses a PPC chip, so no, not a glorified PC in any sense....
- konard, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Just use a Blue tooth keyboard or USB keyboard and mouse with your ps3 then? Whats the biggie, PS3 is not limited as other platforms.
- EvilWalksWithMe, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11Madness! A game releasing a year after Gears of War came out might look visually better? That's insane logic. I thought GOW would be the best looking game FOREVER!
/sarcasm - johnboyjr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7http://kotaku.com/gaming/gamespy/ps3-ut3-supports-keyboard-mouse-sixaxis-243125.php
The good news, as you've probably figured out by the title of this post, is that you can choose the stock SIXAXIS controller, with tilt-look, or go PC-style with a USB keyboard and mouse - Microdot, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8"What's up your ass about the PS3 anyways? I don't recognize your name but you really seem to be going on the defensive."
he obviously has a small penis. - Namarrgon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Any reason you're aware of why one UT3-engine game would "blow away visually" another UT3-engine game? I'd have thought that they'd be pretty similar.
Far more important is WHAT they're displaying, not how they're displaying it. I've seen plenty of older games that look gorgeous thanks to quality art (incidentally, I've always thought that Gears' art direction was top notch - I hope UT3 places a similar emphasis on this). - ninj3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5How is the U3E being certified as 'Games for Windows Live' the same as it being 'built around the 360'?
In my experience these games for windows live don't even work properly on the vista OS their meant to be built for. Apparently all games for windows live means is that it only vaguely works on vista and you have to play online via the live network.
And having played Halo 2 on vista, I personally think the live network sucks. Give me a normal PC online gaming master server over this 'silver and gold' membership ***** any day. - g3r4, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Optimized != Running. Optimized = Running Better.
- Brutus013, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11Also, why are completely un-needed fanboy posts that do nothing but bash Sony getting dugg up?
- ninj3, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7And it's only exclusive to the PS3 for this year. UT3 comes out on other consoles next year. So it's not really a proper exclusive.
- Nereus90, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Since when can you not host your own servers on the PS3? You can do it with Resistance can't you?
- ninj3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@lacronicus
MS, open standards? Don't make me laugh. The reason the 360 pad works on windows is because it's made by the same company. That doesn't make it open or cross compatible. If it didn't work I'd think MS were pretty damn stupid. And MS isn't stupid. I don't know anything about the sixaxis controller so I can't compare their open-ness but if the 360 controller worked on linux or any other OS without a lot of effort I'd be very surprised. - aic007, on 10/11/2007, -7/+11They signed a deal to make an optimized version to take advantage of the cell. That doesnt mean that UT3 or any other unreal engine base game will not come out for the 360. Just a modified UE for the cell, and a timed exclusive for the PS3 UT3. Also the PS3 version of UT3 will be able to swap modded maps with the PC. But Sony doesn't buy exclusives, Epic surely saw the power and said lets do all of this cause we like them.
- MattTS, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The entire system design is pretty much custom so no it's not a glorified PC, Mac or anything else. It's just a console.
- TheLD, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Totally wrong. No exclusive deal. Buried as inaccurate.
- WhereAmI, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Yeah stick to the sites that are indirect like 1up and gonintendo.
- g3r4, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Strictnein needs to get the 10ft pole out of his ass and a brain back into his head. This has nothing to do with the exclusivity of the UE3 engine. Just an optimized version. VERSION. If MS wants to work with the engine and build in what they want, they're still good to go. That'd be their VERSION.
- ninj3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I don't see why not. If it's just a normal keyboard and mouse I expect everyone who has a PS3 has a keyboard and mouse in their house and can easily plug it in.
- WhereAmI, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5It is a bad move for Epic to have an optimized Unreal Engine for the PS3 to lease to game makers?
- gwinerreniwg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I think its EXTREMELY likely to see UT3 before Christmas buying season. Epic is extremely close on a release and is really trying to hit the Christmas market.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3If the 360 is used as the graphical bar that the other versions should match, that implies that it's the lowest common denominator.
- g3r4, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Lol, UE3 for the Wii. I'm not saying its impossible to get the engine running on it, but UE3 has become synonymous with great graphics. The one thing the Wii is lacking is the hardware to handle great graphics.
- h4mx0r, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Honestly, if you go keyboard and mouse, you might as well do on a computer.
And don't use the console $ vs pc $ argument here. The price of a PS3 could pretty much upgrade an existing computer to a decent competitor. - johnboyjr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3you can use a keyboard and mouse on it on the ps3
