That is one of the stupidest ***** things I have ever read on digg. Get rid of the Blu-ray drive?!?! The games themselves are blu-rays. You would render the system useless if you got rid of the blu-ray drive. There's a crapton of people out there who would jump all over a PS3 for $300. This announcement only ensures that they will simply either (a) save their money, or (b) buy an X-box instead.
I still think the PS3 is the better system, more reliable, and is actually cheaper than X-Box in the long run. But there's no way I can defend such a monumentally stupid decision. As long as they keep the price at $400, they'll remain dead last in this generation of console wars. - avaris15, on 03/31/2009, -0/+13The only problem is that PS3 games are on Bluray discs, so you'd still need the drive in there.

It gives gamers the features we need to enjoy games without packing in expensive extras that drive the price up. If you need said features, you pay more for addons, but for those who don't need WiFi or a BluRay/HD-DVD drive we can get a gaming machine with good graphics much cheaper than the PS3.
Seriously, why do you NEED WiFi? Why do you need HD movie playback? We've all listed the numerous reasons why the PS3 is technically superior to the X-Box a million times, but the X-Box fanboys will continue to ignore the fact that their system is unreliable, more expensive over time, and inferior. You'll get dugg down, just like I will.
But to the general public, none of that matters. I could list 100 reasons why the PS3 is a better choice than the X-Box that won't make one bit of difference to the average joe. They don't care about being able to swap out the hard drive. What your average joe knows is this:
1) Microsoft has a lot AAA titles that are well known, such as Halo.
2) Microsoft shells out big, big bucks for exclusive downloadable content for games such as GTA IV and Fallout 3. Sony does not.
Your average joe sees X-Box Arcade for $200. They See PS3 for $400. They don't factor in the costs for X-Box Live. Or a HDD. Or wireless. Or anything else. They see "X-Box has Halo and is 200 bucks cheaper." and they go with it.
And what do you think Mom is thinking when she decides which system to buy Johnny for his birthday? Do you think she's sitting there making all sorts of comparisons between X-Box and PS3? No. She sees "$200" on X-box's price tag and "$400" on PS3's. And which one do you think Mom is going to grab?
You can add all the bells and whistles that don't mean jack ***** to the average consumer, but you cannot compete with that line of thinking.
The only way to break that line of thinking is a competitive price drop and an aggressive campaign for the exclusive titles that the PS3 has. About 70% of the top 100 games for 360 are ON THE PS3 AS WELL.
Furthermore, if you don't like Halo, Gears or Fable (and I don't) oh dear the 360 isn't suddenly the gaming powerhouse with 'all the games' anymore.
The 360 wins with social MP gaming with live.
In my opinion the PS3 wins for single player gamers and for the odd online game it's FREE for me to play.
Killzone 2 was a 7/10 SP game but MP = holy *****, it's as good as an online PC shooter.
I <3 my PS3, if you guys don't want one, fine but stop ***** sooking about goddamn no games, go look at metacritic

I dunno what geeksquad employee at bestbuy told you that you need a 80 dollar platinum plated and diamond encrusted HDMI cable for your 360 to use, but they lied to you.
However, I hope they do drop the price of the PS3 cause I will buy one as soon as it does. I have had to send my 360 back to microsoft 4 times now, and I am getting fed up with it. I have nothing to play on it except MLB 09 the show which I am not really into, and won't be until the season starts. My 360 on the other hand gets used almost daily courtesy more friends my age preferring Xbox Live.

I know some of these are available on PS3 too, but it seems silly to get a whole other console for a few games. I use my 360 to play games on, not to watch movies. They all come with HDMI now, and have always had wireless controllers. And I am somehow able to connect to the same internet with it even without wireless internet.
