- etgoboom, on 10/10/2007, -3/+29noobody made them buy it, they could've waited like other people did. I bought the ps3 a month before the pricedrop, sure it sucks, but its nothing worth getting angry about.
- ZeroMP, on 10/10/2007, -7/+29Wasn't it originally 20Gb and 60Gb? Where the hell have I been - now it is 60 and 80?
I hate to break it to Sony, but adding more Gb doesn't fix the PS3. They should focus their efforts instead on making a phone/handheld gaming device since they have met with such success in the handheld gaming market.
And it should be shaped like a taco.
And taste like a taco.
***** it they should just sell tacos.
I'm hungry... - jtbndy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19So this quote....
""We no longer have any inventory in SCEA warehouses. All inventory has been purchased and shipped to retailers," Sony's Dave Karraker said in an email."
Is not a confirmation of internal depletion of the PS3 at Sony?
Its not like the person who submitted this claimed "Confirmation of 80GB Price drop." All that was confirmed in the quote was the depletion of Sony's inventory of the 60GB.
So how again is this innaccurate? - grat2001, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21You also get Motorstorm, so it's not as bad as you make it sound.
- DangerMouse9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12It's software emulated, not hardware emulated.
- jackal42, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15A lie is halfway round the world before the truth has got its boots on
- Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11when you buy something in the beginning you should know going into it that there are going to be price drops in the future. This is very common in the technology world, early adopters always pay alot more then the people who wait, thats just how it works.
- MrLunar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Welcome to the world of technology, where components DO infact go down in price.
- readme, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Even if the 80GB drops to $499 a 60GB is well worth it now as it has the PS2 chips and the 80GB does not. The price on the 80GB is most certainly dropping. It cost much less to produce and they won't bundle Motorstorm with it The only question is: $499 or less?
- animalmuther76, on 07/30/2008, -2/+12a store gave you 180 bucks for a broken ps1???? what was in it for them????
- samdu, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14Damned if they do, damned if they don't. That said, I fully expect the 80GB unit to drop at least $100 when the 60s are gone.
- Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I'm calling BS on u rem
- Sarzec, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10AWww I was headed there after work, damn you amrush4th!
- spyder91, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9You buried an article inaccurate for something it didn't claim? Interesting. I'm pretty sure the title says internal depletion of the 60GB, and the article simply mentioned that Sony had alluded to the possibility of an 80GB price drop in July. The article and title are cohesive with the truth.
- plhearn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8RAM is no different. I remember 32mb of RAM costing 100$ about a decade ago.
- Dextrose, on 10/10/2007, -20/+28Buried as severely INACCURATE.
There is NO new news in that article regarding any statement from Sony indicating a price drop for the 80GB model. They (GamePro) just regurgitated "assumptions" (regarding an 80GB price cut) from the time when the original price cut for the 60GB model was announced. - iceperson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7You have it backwards, the 60gig doesn't have ps2 emulation (it actually has PS2 hardware). The 80 gig uses emulation to play PS2 games.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Not true. That was only true for developers' units (dev kits). For consumer units, if you have the PS2 hardware (the EE), it is used to play PS2 games.
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8both due to being discontinued but PS3 did in fact sell out of their launch shipments.
- BobsYourUncle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Or you could keep your PS2.
- kingo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7There is a 'Reply' button for a reason
- hoowahman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6? why are people buying them then?
- Starflyer59, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6"People will buy an X-box for Gears of War alone."
Um, no I won't. - Listor, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8If you havent bought your 60gb ps3 buy one now. In the 80gb version there is no emotion engine.
Emotion engine = hardware emulation for ps1 and ps2 games
no emotion engine = weak software emulation of all of your old favorites - mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Are we still talking about the PS3? They basically only have 1 SKU on the market now. Not 5 SKUs like some other company, who can't even get one SKU done right.
- theaceoffire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Also, the 60GB's emotion engine can probably be turned off with a firmware update, so that we also get the benefits of ps2 emulation (Smoothed edges, etc).
^_^ And since I can buy a new hard drive (And probably will, already filled up the 60 with movies and demos), I don't mind getting it early rather than waiting for the 80 GB one.
O.O oh, and this thing is DEAD quiet. Even running Resistance or Folding at Home... - m4szyman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Actually it does fix the PS3 - the biggest problem with the PS3 for most people is the price and the reason the price is so high is due to manufacturing costs. Since Sony loses money on the consoles the only way to drop the price is to cut manufacturing costs and, believe it or not, it is cheaper for them to put 80gig hard drives in the machine. That combined with the fact that they are taking out the emotion engine and using software emulation means that we will probably see 80gig models below $500 sooner than later.
- Dextrose, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Sounds to me like you're the new one here. I can sniff out a ***** article description from a mile away -- and this description is a total crock. Yes, it's true that Sony confirmed the 60GB is sold out internally. But their recent statement mentioned ONLY that fact -- and said nothing about the 80GB price being cut.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Emotion Engine isn't used to emulate PS1. PS1 titles are emulated in software on all PS3s.
- Sutanreyu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3...We already have those "benefits".
PS1/2 upscaling and smoothed edges. - ganzhimself, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Even though I don't have a massive PS2 library, I'm glad I snagged the 60GB with the emotion engine chip. I didn't realize that the 80GB model was going to a shiesty PS2 software emulation.
- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2replace "some" and "those people" with "username9000"
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5tell that to RAM
- magaman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think the quote is "Who Didn't see this coming"
- SqueakyWheel, on 10/10/2007, -6/+8They will not sell out until Black Friday
- Pureeviljester, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The 60 GB price cut gained them a 60% boost, of course they'll lower the price after evaluation.
- iceperson, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Were you born stupid or do you work at it?
- crashingechelon, on 10/10/2007, -6/+8Looks like I have to hurry and get that 60gb model for the emotion engine so I don't have to rely on emulation for my horde of PS2 games.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Halo, and Mass Effect. Bioshock, and Gears can also be played on Macs (when running Windows) and PCs
Resistance, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted?
Which will I take? I guess the one that wont crap out on me first. - triplehelix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2none of those companies have had a console sell 115 MILLION units, and still have new games comming out for it in year 8.
- def1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4what are you....12?
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I know many audiophiles rave about the audio chipset having terrific fidelity when playing music cds but I doubt that crossed the store's minds.
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yes it goes down but it also flucuates heavily.
- tatical, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Metal Gear Solid 2 (and a few of my other games) still don't work on the 360.
YAY! for emulation... - Verugan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Used to pay $40 per 1MB
- LaughingDjinn, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5With Amazon's current deal where you get the PS3 and 3 Blu-Ray's for $475 (plus the 5 more through the mail in rebate) the 60GB stock may go faster than you think.
- Pureeviljester, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the real question is; 20 gig more or complete backward compatability?
- Trent0090, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't see the big deal on having to rely on emulation, if you still play xbox games on the 360 then you rely on emulation. So far I have been able to play KOTOR fine on my 360, so I say just wait till the 80 drops. By the way why do we need so many gigs? It seems pointless unless you also download a bunch of movies on it as well.
- gavroche, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2The 20gb version?
- Aneurhythmia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Stop complaining? On the internet?
