- CReyes4182, on 10/10/2007, -4/+28It still has backwards compatibility. It's just that the 60 gig will play that game nobody bought and the 80 gig wont. But all the games that matter will work.
- Responder656, on 10/10/2007, -7/+28Glad that Sony is finally listening to the public and giving them what they want the most: Backwards compatibility>20GB extra HDD space.
- Zoxy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20The PS3 has the same offer at amazon.
- Salgat, on 10/10/2007, -5/+19If you're getting a PS3, get it now. Sucks that the new ones don't have the PS2 chip in them.
- shinythingy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16It's the same with Wii's for me. I can get one no bother, problem is i have no reason to get one
- fjleon, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17I congratulate the poster because he didn't use the word "SKU" in the article description.
- triplehelix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11every super market i go into, seems to always have a TON of can's of corn, and the stock never seems to diminish.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12You're almost as bad as that wageslaven moron. Gof-forbid a company change their minds for the BENEFIT of the consumer after revisiting their earlier decision.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Well, before you take into consideration the backwards compatibility thing, remember, Microsoft backed off their promise for full backwards compatibility.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Yes. That's how they ran out of them for sale. No one bought them.
- mobilehavoc, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11Why does it matter? Every store I've been in recently has a ton of 60GB PS3s in stock and the supply never seems to diminish.
- johnhummel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7The question is, do these new 60 GB models contain the Emotion Chip, or are they software only and just have a smaller hard drive?
I just ordered mine through Amazon, and I'm slightly worried that it won't have the Emotion Chip in it - yeah, minor point, without it it's still "mostly" backwards compatible (as in 99%), but still - it's the idea behind the thing, I guess. - Pureeviljester, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6didn't the 360 have 4 versions or something?
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Why would I go out of my way to buy an HD-DVD player for the 360 when it isn't used for gaming? I won't settle on a format until the "war" is over. The only reason I have an HD player is because I have a PS3. But, I own no Blu-Ray movies.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Just buy the 60 GB at that price and if you need the extra storage space, go out and buy a new HDD. It isn't that difficult of a concept.
- shinythingy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well there is a good chance the 360 will bang
- Rykielz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6The people that want it, can't get it. The the people that don't want it are the ones able to get it. *sigh* :(
- Bega, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you realize both upscale the games right?
- specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4At least they don't get fried as much as the *other* console.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6PS3 60 GB? I haven't noticed any.
- SeaICIubber, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Yes go buy Lair...
- shinythingy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3How is SONY worse?
- pegisys, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I would think Sony saying all they had left was the more expensive unit would drive up sales of the 60GB somewhat, but then again with all the talk of the 80GB getting a price drop once the 60 is depleted is probably not helping any
- Sutanreyu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Now if they lowered it by just $25 more, the demand would jump like crazy.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I thought they left it out (if only in part) because that lawsuit over the rumble feature hadn't been taken care of.
- DarkShroud, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, the 360 is the best bang for your buck, when the damn thing works. Mine is dying on me and it's damn annoying. I'm selling the new replacement I get (Gamestop warranty I shouldn't have needed to buy.). If I'm lucky I'll have only lost around $150 dollars on the poorly designed system that I can't even play my games on.
- GawtMilk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4However, software-based emulation can be updated whilst hardware-based emulation cannot.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2All US 60GBs (including this "new stock") have the backwards compatibility chip.
These units under discussion were recalled from the retail channel to level stock so they could sell them online. They're not new units. - ironyinc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Pretty much the only difference right now between the two versions of the console is 20GB and Motocross. To think that this is more confusing than the differences between the Microsoft SKU's shows alot about your mental capabilities.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm guessing that unlike you, the retailers understand how the retail channel works.
Some channels will run out of stock before others. Duh. - NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I know why they are getting buried. Stupidity
- Sutanreyu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's an acronym, not a word. >_>
- sephiroth4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1UT3 ftw, o wait...Wii's not getting it?!?!? hmmmm....CoD4 ftw...danggit! O that's right.....Metroid...... I have more fun with EyeToy. BTW, I will sell my Wii for reasonable price with zelda, RE4 and two controllers. Holla @ me!
- shinythingy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1so you remember nothing then?
- sephiroth4, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3well, that'll change once you get a ps3 because of the lack of games to play.....on the other hand UT3/CoD4 will change that once released.
- FullHazard, on 10/10/2007, -1/+299%? Wikipedia says 72%, at least in europe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3#Backward_compatibility
- sephiroth4, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2o waaaah...there's a freakin' 3 year warranty on the *other* console (and Nintendo's don't break because they still use tried and true parts in them) On a tangent, I still think the sound processing was better on the SNES (Super Mario) than on anything released! Go play the ghost stage and tell me you weren't impressed. Okay, Im tired....digg me down....goodnight!
- NightVortez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's actually selling about as good as the 360 during it's time.
- Pureeviljester, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1unless recalled, retailers don't send things back.
- Pureeviljester, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1so after 3 years and your console red rings? they all are built with potential of the flaw
- gweedo767, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2How is this listening to what people want? They aren't producing more 60GB + EE versions. They are simplying having retail suppliers send units back to them to fulfill online orders.
- DarkShroud, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Only the PAL 60 gig PS3 do not have the Emotion Engine chip. So you should be fine. Personally my games are mostly mainstream so I shouldn't have a problem with either type of emulation.
- DarkShroud, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1And how many versions of the 360 are there? Core, Pro, Pro with HDMI, Elite, Halo (pre-orders allowed I belive.). And then there is the question of them being Falcon versions or not.
- jromz03, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1sony probably slowed down production of 60GB and stepped up with the 80GB.
so according to their inventory, they still have ample 60GB available. but what they don't know is that their 'channels' are stuffed with 60GB... - pcpimpster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You all slam the "broken" xbox issue as a reason not to buy one. When was the last time a company admitted they ***** up, gave a 1,000,000,000$ to fix the issue and then gave a three year warranty on all consoles sold? If your 360s are all ***** up get it exchanged, you have the warranty cause M$ actually gives a ***** on this one. Mine works fine, i don't play it night and day but i admit it should not have these issues but you cant knock a company for trying to fix their mistakes. I called Sony for my lemon SS receiver and they told me it only has a 90 day warranty and i can go ***** myself, in Japanese.

http://similar-product.shoppingwharehouse.com - Aiwanei, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Burying you down because the 60GB version one has hardware emulation meaning almost full backwards compatibility while the 80GB has Software emulation meaning the amount of games is much less.
- SlamShut, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3That's the real reason it was left out. The reason that they SAID they left it out was because it was a "last gen" feature. Whoopsy-doodle! Caught them in ANOTHER ***** lie.
And I'm not "almost as bad as that wageslaven moron, Ajajajajajaddudude.
I'm much, much worse. - randal2k, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1people still buy this? O.o
