Sony:No plan to cut PlayStation 3 price

news.yahoo.com — - Sony has no plan to cut the price of its PlayStation 3 game console, the company's chief financial officer Nobuyuki Oneda said Friday."This year, our strategy is not to sell more quantity for PS3 but to concentrate on profitability," Oneda told a forum in Singapore. "Our plan is not to reduce the price."

I beat Gears of War in one day. What else is there? Everything I would want to play is on the PS3....oh and it works...exclusives don't do you much good if you can't play them because your 360 is piece of ***** that doesn't work.

        As far as your 3 year warranty goes, what good is it if your 360 is in the shop half of the year? You still aint gonna be playing it. They don't really fix them obviously because I had to send mine back 3 times and on the fourth time I said ***** it! My 8 year old PS2 still works and has NEVER been in the shop.

        Sony got it right putting a HD optical drive, Wifi and a HDD in every SKU as standard, Microsoft went for the cheapest nastiest solutions possible and 360 gamers have been suffering ever since. Sucks really, because the 360 is a good machine, if only it had the polish (hardwise wise) that the PS3 had, it's be killer.

      Well slide those out and in place slide the wifi adapter in it's place ! They both say WiFi adapter so when you take it up and it comes up 89.99 or whatver simply say hey no it isn't and take they clerk to where you got it - if there is any hassle ask for a manager they will be happy to apise and give it to you for said price WHY ? Cause they have to especially if there is about 10 things in the wrong spot ( ones you put there yourself ! )

      So yes it does work i have doen it about 12 different times at Zellers and walmert :) ***** em ! So there you have it wifi hook up for 25 dollars !

      Aslo you don't even need the wifi hook up ! you can use you PC or laptops wifi adapter as a link just google it !
      Works the same way !! And everybody and ther dog hgas a wireless router if not get one for 25 bucks as well
      or as i stated if you have a lap top use that as a dedicated wireless link !!

      Though I may be a little biased based on my console of choice, I am not talking out of my ass. I borrowed my friends ps3, bought mgs4, and was dissapointed. It's a good game, but I wanted to play more of it. Even if there aren't exactly 90 minute cutscenes, plenty of them felt that long and they're so abundant during the game that I barely get to play what I came for. That, and I have gripes about the whole manner it took place, in episodic levels rather than a pseudo free roaming environment of the past. Lastly, i thought the games pacing was a little too low. Gone is the fast paced stealth action of mgs and mgs2 and in with the camo crawling of mgs3. I just don't feel like the suites the series as well. I tried my best to enjoy this game and I felt as if it did not live up to its pedigree (Then again, I wasn't able to get MGO to work so that might be my problem). Just my two cents.

The next chapters in the Star Ocean and Tales lines are Xbox 360 exclusive, and you won't find Lost Odyssey anywhere else. Non-Linear RPGs? Mass Effect is 360 and PC exclusive, and Fable II is on the way. Fighting? Guilty Gear 2 won't be on PS3 this fall. Music? Bemani hasn't released DDR for the PS3, while the 360 has already got three.

      PS3 fanboys are so quick to make noise when they get an exclusive, when in actuality the Xbox has been trumping them in that department since its release.

PS3 still has Final Fantasy 2million or whatever it is now, plus there's another JRPG that's exclusive to PS3, though I can't remember what it is right now (I'm not interested in JRPGs). None of the 360's exclusives are in anyway similar to MGS4, so it has nothing going up against it. Ninja Gaiden has mediocre reviews and Gears of War was almost as overrated as Halo 3. Lost Odyssey looks mildy attractive, but only because of how much I've heard about it, though I don't like JRPGs that much.

        Oh, and DDR? REALLY?

    As much as I would like to have a PS3 this summer, there is just no reason for me to get it when there are no exclusive games i'm dying to play. No need to have the PS3 sitting around collecting dust like the PS2 did.

I played everyone since the NES days and I just didn't like them. So, if that is the highest marked exclusive game on the PS3, there is no need for me to worry about it.

        But more importanlty, for me, is the fact that none of my gaming friends have a PS3. I will only play online games with friends and if they are all on the 360 then i'll be a very lonely gamer on the PS3.

        Useful tip for anyone mulling over buying something expensive. Make sure there are more than five things about it you ABSOLUTELY must have. I didn't get an xbox until late last year, because Portal was the 7th must have thing. Saved myself a lot of money due to price drops and buying older games, etc. It's always better to wait... Otherwise you're just buying it for no good reason.

        ...But make sure to buy those fancy limited edition items right off. Anything you know will appreciate in value... Learned that the hard way with the Limited Bioshock...

      • illustrick, on 07/12/2008, -4/+5***** metal gear, that ***** was uninspiring, and didnt make me want to play it over again, bioshock was better and has a lot of replay time, even with no multiplayer. and the metal gear multiplayer is mediocre at best. dont get me wrong the graphics are nice, but i want a game with substance, i still get enjoyment out of tetris and mario 1/2/3 and they look ***** as ***** on my 42in tv. ***** half life was better than metal gear. and that ***** looks dated as *****.

Resistance is still a FPS so we'll see how that turns out. inFamous isn't coming out this year :(. FFXIII or FF Versus XIII aren't coming out this year either. The Agency should be coming out by Christmas though.

I will say that used PS3 games are all around $30 and used Wii games (if you can find any that aren't Petz or Bratz or anything with a terminal Z) are all around $5-$10 less than they are new. I was thinking I could justify the purchase because of the cheaper used games but then I realised that 360 has the same games and is a lot cheaper.

I bought the PS2 for Timesplitters 1 which was a great game. But as soon as I got the Xbox it took all my attention. And then when I got on XBL, I realized I never used the PS2 at all, it sat there under a table all lonely. And the main draw of the PS2 was RPGs, which I have NO interest in playing.

That's pretty good in the UK considering most are £300. But I couldn't be bothered to wait anyway. If I was to go for a 360 I would have to choose the Elite which is around £250, yet no blu-ray. I figured the PS3 had a lot of decent features for the price. At the end of the day, all electronic products come down in price, if you wait too long, you end up spotting something slightly better that you want.

For most people who have mortgages, car notes, health care insurance, kids etc etc etc, $499 just doesn't grow on trees. The core PS2 gamers probably can't part with $499 and that's one of the things that made the Playstatin brand popular was the price. If you buy a $499 console, an extra controller, headset, kb and another game (assuming you don't like the MGS franchise which I don't) then you could easily spend $600-$700 bucks ! Nothing to sneeze at for cash strapped folks.

      Everyone's financial situation and responsibilities are different. Just because some can afford a PS3 doesn't mean the masses can. It's like buying a ferrari ! Not everyone can afford it.

        Both the next Xbox and PlayStation will be released around the same time. The PS3 will be supported for about 10 years, but that doesn't mean they will not release another console. PS2 was still supported even after the release of the PS3. PS4 will work the same way with the PS3 still being supported, as long as it's in Sony's best interest.

      As far as the Wii goes, I see it as a console that will very quickly wear out it's welcome. It really shouldn't even be in the same discussion as the 360 or PS3 as it's not truly next-generation technology. Sales-wise, they should list it right beneath the PS2 and XBOX in my personal opinion.

For example, Blu-Ray is the upcoming standard for playing movies at home and the PS3 already is one of the cheapest Blu-Ray players (with gaming features to boot). Seeing as Sony sells consoles at a loss and makes up for it through a cut from every game sold, it would make sense for them to not want to stimulate demand among people who might buy the PS3 and not purchase any games. They've got a fairly strong lineup coming in the next year (LittleBigPlanet, Street FIghter IV, Gran Turismo 5, Resistance 2, etc.) so they probably figure they'll be all right.

      For the majority of people standard def televisions and cheap DVD prices will keep them happy for quite a while. Personally I think it will take a few years before blue-ray starts becoming mainstream and in that time the Chinese will be throwing out low cost models.

If you can't that is the definition of mandatory you tool. lol DMC4, Bourne Conspiracy, Hot Shots Golf, the list goes on concerning games with MANDATORY installs. There are no mandatory installs on the 360 (yet). If games start coming out with regularity like they do on the PS3 that require installs before you can play, you can bet it will irk me on the 360 also. Until then I will talk about the positives and negatives of both systems. Other than first party exclusives, there is nothing for me that i can't get that has a better online component than on the 360.
        So go cry in your milk and try to convince yourself that the 360 sucks. that is what uninformed sony lovers do.

There's an Ideal Sony should use to save even more money on the cost of production and sell more units, take out the WiFi go with LAN and instant saving for both us and them. $100 less would do it. They already went with removing the chip for BC and are now software. and did away with some card reader slots too.     Okay on the other side of things I own all 3 systems and have had no problems with any other then the PS3's lack of original games that we have all been promised since its launch. If I had know that all I would be using it for is Blue Ray player I would have just bought a ROM drive for $129.99 for my PC. 5 games is just not enough.

  • SLCovington, on 08/03/2008, -0/+0They'd honestly be stupid to reduce the price now that the next-gen DVD war is over and HD lost to the BluRay disc. If anything, that only raises the value of the PS3, considering its a more cost friendly BluRay player since its also a great console. I personally own both a PS3 and an XBox 360, I'm not really biased on either one of them. Both have their ups and downs.
