Rumor: Konami Already Hinting at Metal Gear Solid 5?

1up.com — Tuesday's Metal Gear Solid 4 press event in Tokyo's Roppongi Hills concluded with an audio clip of a phone conversation between franchise foe Revolver Ocelot and an unknown character, with only Ocelot's side of the conversation presented in the clip (with subtitles shown on the screen). Could they already be hinting at the next iteration of MGS?

If you want some pure speculation from me, I'd say that Raiden is going to die in 4; having become a (litteral) tool of war.

      If you don't know what I'm talking about you need to play Snatcher to understand why this is not only probable news of an installment in the Snatcher franchise, but there are so many things that point to it, most obviously the name Project-S! That and Snatcher is an incredible Kojima game that not enough people have played.

One of the posters in MGS2 was for Snatcher even though Snatcher was a few years old at that time. Also, the tiny robot that helps Snake in MGS4 is based on a Snatcher design. You can tell Kojima has love for that game and fans have been wanting a followup forever. I think ZoE2 is more likely but we'll have to wait and see.

Solid Snake is a clone and there's a very in depth training program to make the next Solid Snake. The series has the potential to go on forever but hopefully they mean it this time when they say it's the last one.

All of this of course making people questioning the 10 year lifespan of the ps3. I cant wait to play mgs 4 once it comes out i just think it sucks that it most likely wont be a true finish to the series and will get all the life sucked out of it.

  • Versh, on 05/14/2008, -2/+5Sure, if MGS4 has some else taking the code name Snake at the end. The world at war driven by PMCs-- it's a rich premise worth a few more iterations I guess.
    However, it has been repeatedly reported that any future game in the series will be without Kojima-san as director... so MGS5 might just be a generic "Stylish tactical espionage game with some Metal Gear characters."
    Besides, this article isn't hinting at another Metal Gear, they're just playing toward their audience.

    Unless of course they're planning an announcement that same day, which I doubt. Likely something to do with MGO.

    They will make them as long as people buy them. I actually know people who were surprised that there will be a Madden 09. *****... there will be a Madden 3009 if people buy the damn thing.
