- sonaboy, on 10/10/2007, -6/+57I think this is the press conference where Sony's CEO finally tells the truth about the Wii : it causes AIDS.
- mageofdeath, on 10/10/2007, -6/+55I don't wanna get too hyped up, it's probably 95% price cuts, but "big bang" makes it sound like there's a free hooker with every ps3...
- etgoboom, on 10/10/2007, -5/+45Most likely the 40GB $399 PS3
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -9/+42And Jackson, without rumors, how would we know we needed to be hearing something on Oct 12th?
- leetleo, on 10/10/2007, -12/+40Halo 3 for the playstation, imo. :P
- Sirocco, on 10/10/2007, -5/+31The big surprise is the official Sony Replacement Plan where you can upgrade your SIXAXIS to a shiny new Dual Shock 3 for only $50.
Ah... wait. Oh. - jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -12/+35Why does everyone digg rumors? Let's just wait until Oct 12th to hear the real thing.
- theragu40, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25FTA: "Hopefully it'll be as big as their announcement of the Dual Shock 3 controller."
Well, he's not setting his sights too high, is he? - Araxen, on 10/10/2007, -5/+27Yes, it is.
- grat2001, on 10/10/2007, -5/+27I would think the new SKU announcement & price cut. I would hope they talk about the Home Beta opening up and MGS4 demo coming soon.
- amrush4th, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26$400 really is going to be the sweet spot. Seriously folks, you can put a next gen game machine, one of the best DVD upscallers, and bly-ray players in your living room for $400. If you are looking to complete your HD living room, it makes little sence to pass this up
- NeoCortex, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23They'll come out and say:
"Rumble really was a last gen feature. Our new controllers will now feature an IR sensor on the front to create a more engaging gaming experience." - JlmAWP, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14I found it funny, but someone out there is gonna shoot you through the internets by the end of this story.
- RekCognize, on 10/10/2007, -10/+23Most likely anything they can think of to keep people from talking about Halo for 5 minutes.
- blankoboy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19Big announcement better be:
1. Official Keyboard + Mouse support for all FPS related games from now on.
2. Skype support on the PS3 and PSP (camera compatible).
3. Divx/Xvid codec support. - RxDaniel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12If you're gonna buy two of something it should be the 360, that way you can play one while microsoft is fixing the other one.
- Jeffler, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11If the PS3 was the price of the Wii i'd buy 2. Price is the factor right now.
- Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Yeah, cause every console around has no form of DRM or copy protection /sarcasm.
Get a clue. - andydumi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Yea, its going to be hyped up and then when its something normal, people will be let down. It seems nowadays all we want is huge announcements every day.
Same thing happened with the rumor of a huge G4TV announcement, or the THREE mega bomb announcements from Konami in one day...
People, calm down and have reasonable expectations, and that way sometimes you will get surprised, in a good way. - quentinp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Hopefully any price cut will include a BIG price cut in Canada what with our dollar and all. A 30%-40% markup is no longer acceptable!
- ShadowH8ing, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13I'll be leery of any Sony hookers; as they might just give you a rootkit STDs which is prevalent in a lot of Sony's media ;-).
- RxDaniel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7The digg comment system and I just had twins.
- neshcom, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Way to know how to reply.
- hightower77, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Not true, but you worked in Wii and AIDS. Good enough for me.
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11those are stupid, you're stupid.
1. It's up to the game developers
2. It's up to Skype more than Sony
3. Not a big deal, not even close to a "big bang" although I guess I would appreciate it. - jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8@pigfister
Nintendo or Microsoft are no different in their business practices. Everyone says UMD it's proprietary, and Nintendo DS cartridges aren't. Sony is part of the RIAA and Microsoft is the biggest part of the BSA. Everyone pushes their own formats, ever heard of .WMV ? - bigteebo, on 10/10/2007, -7/+13I bet it's a disappointing annoucement like: We now have PS3s in Gold & blue & red! Or maybe...a new game!
- Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9CD audio quality is identical to my PC when both are connected to my THX set through TOSLINK. DVD upscaling is also more or less identical to PowerDVD, minus some of the colour output options.
I don't have any other Blu-Ray players to compare the PS3 against, but it look great IMHO. Perhaps they were testing with earlier frimware or didn't know how to set up the PS3 correctly. There are a lot of options that are only avaliable thought complex menues and it takes time to configure everything correctly. The PS3 defaults for most things are very conservative and don't always output the best IQ. - Shanobi, on 10/10/2007, -8/+13Boy, if it's as big as the announcement of rumble, this is going to be HUGE.
Not. - puzl, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Price may be a factor preventing people who want a PS3 from buying one, and a significant price cut will certainly generate a significant surge in purchases *if* the games come to the console. I think MGS4 will be a huge factor here, but games like 'Little Big Planet' could generate a high degree of interest this christmas, so if Sony are going to do a price cut they need to do it ASAP. When you compare PS3 sales to 360 sales adjusted for release date, the PS3 isn't that far behind globally, and is on par or ahead in regions outside the US. For example, the PS3 has outsold the 360 this year in the UK to date. The fact that stands to sony is that they have a lot more room for maneuver in terms of value. Their price delta has more scope, as well as their software availability. However, if they fail to deliver both, then I can't see them giving any real competition to Microsoft.
- SigmaDraconis, on 10/10/2007, -7/+12Sony will announce...another announcement.
- Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7That would be great, but I doubt it.
Keyboard & mouse support is a developer decision and has nothing to do with Sony. Skype I can't see being a big system pull for the games console market, they're too mainstreme and not techi enough to adopt it yet. I can't see any reasons why we don't already have DIV-X support though, mainstreme DVD players often support these codecs so it's about time the PS3 did as well. - wiredDeath, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I wish they would reveal what they've been doing about their ultrasonic "real life Matrix" device. This announcement is obviously not going to be anything as amazing as that, but...........it should be :D
http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg18624944.600 ... - hightower77, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Do tell limezor2. I'm intrigued as to what else you see the problem is.
- bCabulon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You would, but it would be through software emulation.
- iceperson, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10Here's a review from someone who actually owns a PS3 and a 1080p24 television: Nothing upscales DVD as well as the PS3.
- jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9Gears looks better than Halo, so there is no reason for Unreal to not look better.
X360 is actually quite a bit more expensive when you add the things you really want like online play, wifi, recharge kits, Blu-ray/HD-DVD, HD upgrade etc.. - Sethbacca, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Uhhh I think they're doing software compatibility in future models ala the X360. AFAIK they have already taken the emotion engine out of the 80gb PS3 according to rumors.
- Mookles, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Do explain how DRM laden the PS3 is, except for the DRM laden Blu-ray technology that is more the fault of the MPAA than of SCEA.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Good for them, but that doesn't change the fact that (hopefully) the world will continue to be more impressed by innovation than imitation.
- pcpimpster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Can you atleast compare the appropriate MS product to the topic which is gaming consoles?
Xbox 360 vs PS3 not PS3 vs MS Office 2007
Dumb ass. - Jeffler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4How are you going to make days change to 10 seconds each?
- hightower77, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ok, you know the market so well. How many games should a console have out about 1 year from release? 100? 200? 300? 1,000? BTW, if I go to Amazon right now, I have 364 choices for games on the 360. Is that bad? It's been out a year longer than the PS3 and it has 143.
People again have different taste. I'm sure if you like the 360, I could find one game that you didn't like. So, by your logic, you should think it doen't have any games either. - joey368, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7No matter what it is, you'll hear a retarded quote during it's announcement.
- StingerMS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I hope it's something other than the new SKU. However, noting Microsoft's AND Sony's past "big announcements," I'll say it's the new SKU.
- WhereAmI, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I don't know why they Dugg you down cloudy, wait until this announcement before buying a PSP or PS3. Thats just wise. Although I highly doubt this will pertain to the PSP being cheaper since its not that bad now and they just released the Slim.
- Exhaust, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Or it could work like the motion sidewinder PC controller MS put out like 10 years ago. That arguement about them conflicting is retarded and always has been. Even if the effected each other its called a switch. Turn on off while the other is in use.
- WhereAmI, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Link says it was in development until Take Two sold the shares to Microsoft and said screw PS2, Xbox and PC only.
- 1b2a, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I disagree. I'm guessing more *****.
- Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7The PS3 is getting all the same cross platform games as the 360, and it has sock kick ass exclusives in the pipe. The onyl thing holding most people off is the price.
