- ahatter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+39you would buy a PS3 for a $30 movie..?
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+35The only one ripping people off on harddrives is Microsoft.
Both the Xbox360 and PS3 use internal 2.5 inch SATA drives. The PS3 allows you to plug in any 2.5 inch SATA drive that is larger than 20 gigs, the manual even details how to do it, and it will accept it as if it was an official drive. The Xbox360 only works with it's "official" drives, which cost $100 for 20 gigs and $180 for 120 gigs...
I could get a 160gig 2.5 SATA drive at newegg for $100.. - lakuma, on 10/10/2007, -3/+33I would buy the $399 model with the 40G hd and replace it with a 160G hd for $89.00. Double the space of the 80G model and you are saving $10. Upgrading your PS3 hd is extremely easy.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+34We're sorry you're poor and have no taste in movies...
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -8/+31Still better to get the 60gb with Emotion engine now.
- andydumi, on 10/24/2007, -0/+19No significant hardware improvements.
The thing is the EE allows for 99.999% backwards compatibility, whereas without it you are in the realm of software compatibility, which is currently at about 90% and improving every patch. There is a search engine on the official Sony website to allow you to figure out if your games will work or not. - hockey, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21I just went through this entire thread and saw virtually nothing but "the PS3 still sucks"
Don't you guys have anything better to do than troll threads? Can we have anything remotely resembling a discussion on this topic at all anymore? We get it, you hate Sony, you hate the PS3, Sony bashing is "kewl" and Lair sux. Can you please move on now?
I'm not a big fan of the Wii (yes it's heresy to state that I know) but I don't go around trolling every Wii thread on this site.
Grow up. - bigbadgoat, on 10/24/2007, -6/+24you got that backwards. Spiderman 3 is so bad, they're trying to bundle it with the PS3 to get sales.
and I'm partial to the PS3. - andydumi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Too bad the PS3 uses a 2.5 inch hard drive. And I am not even going to bring up the fact that its upgradeable at will. Or MSs hard drive prices...
- Ndiggnation, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Yes, there are even instructions in the manual that tell you how to do it. I think someone mentioned that upthread, but it seems pretty easy. Might get around to doing it myself at some point. I have a stack of SATA notebook hard drives..
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14$400 is too expensive? I spent that much on my 360 with no accessories except for a controller and hard drive. It's a good move for them and will create more competition between MS and Sony which is ALWAYS a good thing for us as gamers.
- abcdefghij, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15This will be the only positive comment on this story
- Myonosken, on 10/10/2007, -12/+24Digg down squad is in.
- 2Deluxe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Geez, some people are never happy.
Quit bitchin', $99 for a console. Have a cry. - charityjustice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Honestly, if you're interested in a PS2 its time to get off the fence already.
- andydumi, on 10/24/2007, -2/+13I think they are talking about the movie, not the game.
- JigoroKano, on 10/24/2007, -0/+11It's actually a clever form of advertisement. A way of telling customers that the PS3 can play HD movies.
- Import98, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16$400 is a reasonable price....I may have to bite and ask wifey to get me one for Xmas. Although.....it'll be all I get from her. :/
- johnIRL, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Can think of worse movies...
- acurism, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12I agree. Now all the haters who said it needs to be at a price point of 400 will start saying that it is over priced at should be 300. With all the features it has, it was a "good" deal at 600. I don't understand all the bitching.
Some people are never freaking happy and clearly the people bitching that it is still too high (if this RUMOR is true) were never going to buy a PS3 anyway, just mindless Trolls. - BrandonMills, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Can you swap hard drives in the PS3? I mean, 40 and 80 are great, but 500 is what I'm talking about :)
- zengonzo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Good to know .. easily swappable without violating warranty?
- johnIRL, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Do you have a PS2? Use that instead
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/24/2007, -0/+9You realize that Blu-Ray is killing HD-DVD right?
- djSyndrome, on 10/24/2007, -2/+11All that and still no new insults.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Welcome to the year 2000! That $200 you saved from buying it at launch really paid off!
...cheap bastard. - djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Worth mentioning: the hard drives are 2.5" notebook drives, not standard 3.5" ones.
- dreado, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9You are so cool, i wish i were you. *looks up to you with glundering eyes [/sarcasm]
- rmw132, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Once FFXIII and MGS come out, the PS3 will finally be a success and redeem itself in the gaming market.
- MWeather, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7If that's you primary concern, the PS2 is only $100.
- McTendo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7He's just trying to get a reaction from you. Just do what I do.
Buried, blocked and forgotten. - Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8What the hell was you expecting? A $50 PS2?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10That's the most retarded thing I've read so far in this thread.
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6OK, let me break it down for you: This deal is for the holidays. Holidays, for buying presents. Presents, likely for kids who can't buy stuff themselves. Now do you maybe see the problem with packing in an R rated movie full of violence and nudity? Besides, Spiderman is a big Sony thing, so that makes sense anyway.
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6He forgot the [/sarcasm] tag. Or the [/moron] tag.
- DangerMouse9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Man, I hope you never have to pay for insurance.
- JigoroKano, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10It takes standard SATA hard drives.
- MWeather, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6What does sex have to do with marriage?
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The hardware that takes care of PS2 (and PS1) games. In newer models, it's all handled through software emulation.
- deepmenace, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6dont think you can get 500gb 2.5 inch hard drives yet....at least at an accessible prce.
250gb is max.
/waits to be proven wrong/ - hockey, on 10/24/2007, -2/+8He's trying to get in a witty comment. Bashing the PS3 and Spiderman 3 is the new 'in' thing on digg.
- dillibob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5talladega nights sucked too
- chhenry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5also you dont have to spend the $89 until you actually need the storage.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6what? Why the ***** would you want to spend $80 more for 40GBs less?
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Lair was a new franchise and thus somewhat risky. FF and MGS are guaranteed sellers, so they're a different story.
- mobislink, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Just hope your 360 don't die as you $400 worth of games come in. If so enjoy your game of red ring.
- ZenMojo, on 10/24/2007, -3/+7Here's the second positive comment: wow, good deal, and like someone above said, you can always upgrade the hard drive. I have an 80 gig hard drive that I don't even use.
- MagicCake, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4It's nicer to play those games on a PS3. It's an important feature for some people (myself included).
- andydumi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Because if they get it wrong they lose credibility. This way they are actually honest, they have a mole so they give him credit.
- NSMike, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Well, it would be if backwards compatibility is your primary concern.
