- Shiftgood, on 11/25/2007, -4/+37Anyone else here think Resistance didnt get enoguh acclaim? everyone was too busy talking about the PS3 itself and not that game... That game is amazing. Seriously... pac a bowl ... blow the dust off the CD and put it back in... one of the best FPS ive played.. and im a HALO / Counter Strike fan.
hats off - inactive, on 11/25/2007, -1/+25Oh man....I used to love the Syphon Filter series back in the day. Hopefully this one will be just as good.
- InfinitySnatch, on 11/25/2007, -1/+22Awesome. Resistance was such a great game for a release title. In fact, I'd go so far to say that: Resistance campaign > Halo 3 campaign
I've played through both and if you've done the same then you know this to be true. - selfdisplaced, on 11/25/2007, -0/+19It'll be exclusive. Syphon Filter I believe has been exclusive to Sony games for a long time now.
- amrush4th, on 11/25/2007, -2/+21On the last insomniac podcast the basically gave away that they are making Resistance 2 when a map developer referred to the first resistance and resistance 1. That and you would have to be an idiot not to figure they would have a follow up.
- InfinitySnatch, on 11/25/2007, -1/+15I remember people shrugging off Resistance and the PS3 at the time because Gears looked so much better. But then Halo 3 came out a year later and didn't look any better than Resistance and I was like "Huh?".
- childprey, on 11/25/2007, -1/+14Halo 3 sold well...
- Cutter20, on 11/25/2007, -1/+13Of course they're working on it, like they were working on God of War 3, but didn't want to reveal it until recently.
- IIIBTW, on 11/25/2007, -0/+12I heard somewhere that they were hiring game testers a few weeks ago too for Resistance 2. Nice to see that is confirmed now.
- Zamfir, on 11/25/2007, -2/+13Clearly, we need more games where you fist pigs... Now that would be innovative!
- nobody98, on 11/25/2007, -0/+10the first syphon filter game single handedly made me buy a PS1 back in the day. Hopefully the new one will be good
- deepbrown, on 11/25/2007, -0/+10Well it's the rumour that it's coming out in 2008 that's interesting.
- InfinitySnatch, on 11/25/2007, -3/+12Halo 3 was a Halo copy-cat. Resistance was refreshing.
- inactive, on 11/25/2007, -2/+11I felt Resistance looked better than GoW. There was no screen-door shadowing over the human faces. The shadowing in R:FoM looked so good it took me a few minutes to tell it was real time and not baked in to the textures. Making eye contact with the player models (try it in co-op) is so realistic it's creepy. The levels use more than one color, the textures for everything are higher resolution. The draw distance is amazingly long. The vehicles were far more varied and you got to use them for more than one small part. There were more players in multiplayer. Faster framerates, no vsync tearing. Best of all, no loading everytime you die. And I can't stress enough how much I hated GoW's monochrome look. Next gen =/= brown
- InfinitySnatch, on 11/25/2007, -1/+10Wow that's, that's a pretty nifty plan you have there.
- kirashira, on 11/25/2007, -0/+8I honestly can't think of a game im more excited for than God of War 3.
- EatingPie, on 11/25/2007, -1/+8I was also surprised by the quality of the game. It had the "immense world" feel that Halo created, and they took it to another level.
I'm a kbd/mouse player so I though online sucked, but I thought it had more to do with my incompetence at controller than level design.
IMHO, *every* FPS I've played has their gimmic, but when you cut to the chase, they're still just an FPS. That said, Resistance was still fun! I really enjoyed it, and I was stuck playing it in 480p (1080i TV... My ONE gripe about the PS3!). Hopefully R2 will handle 720p and 1080i/p resolutions.
-Pie - bigbadgoat, on 11/25/2007, -0/+7Isn't Syphon Filter a sony game?
- Megaten, on 11/25/2007, -0/+7Should be - the PSP outings have been fantastic.
- InfinitySnatch, on 11/25/2007, -2/+9That's because it's been on PSP for the last several years.
- Klarth, on 11/25/2007, -0/+6As long as it's on the Wii, and comes with a peripheral... *****, I'd play that forever.
- killerofkiller, on 11/25/2007, -0/+6the past 4 syphon filter games where exclusive,
- victimofkratina, on 11/25/2007, -1/+6what the hell does that mean? thats like how i heard they say "its the *****" down in florida.
- inactive, on 11/25/2007, -0/+5The first one was so good they made another?
- killerofkiller, on 11/25/2007, -0/+5::You cant win Logan!!::
I loved the level w/ Gurdu and the flamethower - waynethegreat, on 11/25/2007, -0/+4yup, i read that on a forum on gamefaqs.
- Zoids, on 11/25/2007, -1/+5Troll.
- brokenteeth, on 11/25/2007, -2/+6Every time I go into a PS3 topic you're always bashing it. I'm sure if I bashed your ***** 360 you'd bitch. Halo is a ***** game. Killzone and resistance is much more original than Halo, has a much better story and has much better online (yes the online forkillzone on ps2 is better). The 360 has no good exclusives and the ones that were good are going to PS3 or PC.
- scott88008, on 11/25/2007, -0/+3Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted?
- Lasereth, on 11/26/2007, -1/+4Resistance: Fall of Man is one of the best FPS I've ever played. Playing Halo 3 was embarrassing after playing Resistance. The level design, plot, and even graphics of Resistance blow Halo 3 out of the water, and I bought a freaking 360 for Halo 3.
And yes, there are parts in Resistance that look better than Gears of War. The first couple of levels suck really bad and the graphics are underwhelming (except the draw distance) but once you get past the first 2 levels it kicks into overdrive...and never lets up. Amazing, underrated game. - WhereAmI, on 11/25/2007, -1/+4Most games > Halo 3 campaign.
- WhereAmI, on 11/25/2007, -1/+4My wallet disagrees with the rumor that he PS3 has no games. It disagrees big time.
- Zoids, on 11/25/2007, -0/+3The publisher is Sony, why would they not support their most successful PS3 game?
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -3/+6Modern slang is ridiculous. Whoever made "sick" mean "good" or "cool" should be drawn and quartered.
- Vash3001, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3Resistance sold 2 million copies.
- Sornos, on 11/25/2007, -1/+4I don't think you're giving Halo 3 enough credit, there was a lot of differences.
- WasabiBomb, on 11/25/2007, -0/+2I'm sure you're just trolling, but I can also assume from your statement that you never played the two Logan's Shadow PSP games. They are the top-rated PSP games, ever, and have been called, "THE reason to get a PSP."
But hey, if you've already made up your mind... - Heymann, on 01/19/2008, -0/+2Halo has nothing on this game!!
- volacide, on 11/25/2007, -0/+2I think it's mostly the WW2 drab color palette of Resistance that put a lot of people off. I can attest to that as well, still a fun game though. The multiplayer was really excellent too.
- inactive, on 11/25/2007, -2/+4They reviewed quite well. Troll.
- inactive, on 11/25/2007, -1/+3So then you won't like Mario Galaxy
- joeleslie, on 11/25/2007, -0/+2Both the PS1 and PS2 were around for about 7 years before their successors were released. So, 2009 would be a but soon for a PS4. Try about 2013 at the least.
- Managua8Green, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Good, good, I'm glad you added the part about packing a bowl. A MUST FOR GAMERS (the cool ones)
- trademork, on 12/24/2007, -0/+1SCEA trademarks "Resistance 2": http://www.trademork.com/resistance-2/
- battletrax, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1Halo was never known for graphics. But everyone complained so much they didnt have as much time to work on gameplay.
- WasabiBomb, on 11/25/2007, -0/+1Last I heard, they were rated as the best games, ever, on the PSP.
I'm dubious about SF PS3, though. I just asked a friend of mine who works at Sony Bend, and he said a PS3 version is news to him. So, either they're not going to make a PS3 Syphon... or the studio that made all the other SF games isn't going to be the one doing it. Neither of those options would surprise me- a shame, 'cause it's a good game. - TheTjalian, on 11/25/2007, -1/+2Are you a complete fool? Disregarding the monetary value (which is a plus in itself), the industry is too unstable to consistently innovate. Hell, even NINTENDO takes a break once in a while. Besides, it allows Sony to build up brand recognition, which is something which was severely lacking in most of the PS2 era. Sure, it had great GAMES, but mascots? Nuh uh. The only one that comes to mind is Kratos, and GoW didn't come out until 2005.
Evolution is a necessary factor, but allowing developers to play within their comfort zone allows for easier evolutionary steps. They don't have to constantly think about new ideas in terms of game stories, and instead expand on what they have technically. Yes, new ideas are great, but there needs to be a balance. - MaTT2011, on 11/25/2007, -0/+1I'm all for balance; but too often in these sequels the balance is more about getting the most money while putting the least amount of work and game design into the package as possible.
If developers really did expand their gameplay designs in significant manners while getting comfortable with and establishing new intellectual properties that appeal to a large number of individuals that would be really awesome too. One great example of this is the "Mario" series that, while not really sequels, adds incredibly significant gameplay additions that evolves the experience significantly enough to stay not only contemporary but ahead of the game; it sets the bar with almost frightening regularity. But instead we get the same game with different content/intellectual properties attached to because developers aren't realizing that its not primarily about the visual content, style or storyline of the intellectual property that gets people to keep playing and keep buying games from this intellectual property; its the gameplay! And when the gameplay remains largely the same from IP to IP we see numerous examples of failure.
Gameplay first; visual identity second. Gamers come to love intellectual properties for their gameplay first, everything else second.
I am all for allowing developers to play within their comfort zones and whatnot but too much money and time is being put into things like visuals, designing broadly appealing anti-heroes, creating a movie-like storyline and other such secondary considerations. If developers were actually playing within their comfort zones in terms of gameplay then hell yah; we would be in a great position! But sadly that doesn't seem to be the case. - ScionX, on 11/25/2007, -2/+3Yea, like customizable armor, and......
Uhhh........ - pigfister, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1lmfao
