- vacax, on 04/22/2008, -24/+84They certainly are wasting a lot of time preparing this waste of time. This Home thing will be interesting for about 2 days when it is finally out.
- Aleman360, on 04/22/2008, -4/+62Just give us in-game XMB asap. Home should be a second priority.
- timusca, on 04/22/2008, -8/+52Oh well... I'd like to see it as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to cry over it... I bought my PS3 more than just interacting with people. I can go outside to do that.
- tatinthehat, on 04/22/2008, -1/+35Despite being their competitor, I feel this fits well (assuming it ever comes out).
"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."
- Shigeru Miyamoto - timusca, on 04/22/2008, -10/+43They've been online for awhile... what the hell are you talking about?
- fatlip, on 04/22/2008, -6/+34not trying to play the devil's advocate here, dont even have a ps3.. but wouldn't you rather wait a bit longer and have a product that works properly?
- isewise, on 04/22/2008, -13/+41With all this time they are taking delaying it again and again, my hopes and expectations are getting higher and higher. I know that isn't the usual response, but with all this refinement that they kept talking about it, Home better be damn near perfect.
- treed, on 04/22/2008, -3/+29Playstation Home is not Playstation Network.
- AvidPreatorian, on 04/22/2008, -5/+31As much as that hurts, i want them to get this right. Not many will miss home with GTA4 next week and freaking Meta Gear Solid 4 for the summer.
- shannondoko, on 04/22/2008, -2/+27In natural light? Are you crazy?!
- eyepatch100, on 04/22/2008, -2/+25I'll just have to make do with actual home then...
- dirigibleduck, on 04/22/2008, -6/+21Xbox Live was launched over a year after that system's launch in 2001, and look where it is now.
- Dotcommer, on 04/22/2008, -1/+14Thats what I kept saying about Mass Effect, and what happened? There were glitches riddled throughout the game! It was an incredible game, but there were just so many technical flaws, it was kind of painful.
- Typhoon2009, on 04/22/2008, -2/+14Okay. But can we PLEASE get the god damned in-game XMB?
- PleaseJustDie, on 04/22/2008, -3/+14Personally, I don't mind it getting pushed back. Yeah I want it now, yes I want them to keep deadlines, but, what I want more is for it to work right when I get it. If I have to wait a few more months before it's ready, then I'd rather wait than have it be rushed and broken.
- ThinkIcouldburn, on 04/22/2008, -7/+18The more I wait for this game the less I seem to care about it. And at this point I'm like "meh". By fall I may be asking "What is home and why should I give a ***** about it?".
- Spamcan, on 04/22/2008, -5/+15The PS3 started as a pretty mediocre system thats slowly turned into a good system over the past two years. Eventually it will be a great system, but by then the PS4 will be less then 2 years from release. After spending years fumbling through various hardware revisions and price drops followed by the sudden need for a controller upgrade that should have come in the box to start with I want the damn games and features we were told we'd get last year already, this is *****.
- keepinithamsta, on 04/22/2008, -1/+11Duke Nukem: Forever Home.
- deaftly, on 04/22/2008, -2/+12Delaystation?
- GalacticRerun, on 04/22/2008, -1/+11I can't wait for Home, but I can't help but think I'll be bored of it after a half hour and be back on whatever game I'm playing.
- WhipTail, on 04/22/2008, -5/+15Out... Side? what is this magical place??
- SSCrow, on 04/22/2008, -3/+12Umm. Assassins Creed is definitely not *****.
- analbumcover96, on 04/22/2008, -1/+9yep... i hate having to get out of a game to send a damn messege
- theaceoffire, on 04/22/2008, -1/+8The resolution is astounding, but the game play is a little dull.
- trdrstv, on 04/22/2008, -3/+10I have Wii launch titles that work fine with Motion controls. WiiSports, and Excite Truck were day 1 releases.
- samdu, on 04/22/2008, -3/+9Um... no.
- spinemangler, on 04/22/2008, -0/+6Yeah, but could you imagine if they were on time? Like before they fixed Lair's controls...
- staticneuron, on 04/22/2008, -3/+9Slapdash? I know a vocal few have had issues. But me..... PS1, PS2, PSP and now PS3 in fine working order. I don't think a slapdash job would produce such quality hardware. Their namesake has never been software but they are always getting better. Sony software now, in comparison to 5 years ago is a very large leap ahead.
- logicalnoise, on 04/22/2008, -7/+13which just shows how it was never that great of an idea.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 04/22/2008, -2/+8The Wii motion controls work great when the developers don't cut corners.
- dirigibleduck, on 04/22/2008, -0/+6"Never gained traction?" Have you not heard of Halo 2?
- supersteve, on 04/22/2008, -0/+6sony can't do anything right anymore. any one want a Sony Plasma TV? Oh thats right they ***** that up too.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 04/22/2008, -3/+9Says who?
- diggrim, on 04/22/2008, -0/+5The PS3 was rushed out a year early to have a fighting chance with the 360...Sony doesn't like to release consoles with short life spans
- diggrim, on 04/22/2008, -0/+5based on MS' 4 year lifecycle, the 720 should be out in another year and a half
- JayD16, on 04/23/2008, -1/+6You don't get it at all. Home has great potential and I'll break it down into 2 groups of users.
Guild or Clan members
The benefits of Home should be obvious here. Its a place for people to meet and plan for the next game without having to host a passworded map. The warhawk scale maps is something I've always wanted to see in any game and I think its great to know that something like that will be there day one. Also if you have multi-game clans, it provides a clear meeting place.
The casual gamer
This is a little less obvious and requires a good deal of third party support. Third parties can host their own home spaces. This has to potential for things like EA sports bars, Rockband guitar shops, GranTourismo garages etc. where players can go to meet people who play the same games you do and to talk strategies. It would be great to go into an EA Home space, sit down, and yell 18-1, only to have 3 people challenge you to that fateful, last game.
Right now things like forums provide this sort of functionality but Home is much more dynamic and its open to more people. Not everyone time to read game forums. - m00nstone, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5Well said. As a PS3 owner, I'm happy, but I can't deny it. So far, it's an underachiever.
- dansmeek, on 04/22/2008, -0/+41 - home delayed days after konami's server's crashed and were forced to temporarily delay mgs online "closed" beta? (perrhaps sony saw this as a sign that if they release a beta now, they won't have the servers to support everyone logging in and trying it at once. first impressions mean A LOT.... especially to gamers. if your first experience with home is a laggy, choppy, crapfest experience.... you will dismiss it. sony likes to make good first impressions, and home is no exception. MGSOnline probably was just confirmation that an open beta would not work at this time.
2 - I don't see people "using" home as a game. just going in there and fooling around. i see them using it before playing online games. instead of just using the game and going into the multiplayer and going into a random server with names with no faces, you will go to home and have the process automated that way. in warhawk -- for example -- players can actually get together and discuss team strategies. that is f'n cool. like having a warboard diagramas, etc. i only hope more games copy such an effort.
i also get the feeling home will make the online process more integrated into the PS3 for developers. like, you know how every single xbox360 game has onine... even if it's a game not meant for online, and there is no reason for it to be there, and no one would ever use it (probably), yet still.... it's there...... it's because it's built into the xbox SKU, so programmers just insert a few API calls and BAM! you have online functionality. on the PS3 you still have to code it manually. which is why a small amount of games actually don't have online support (virtua fighter) or should have had better online support (PAIN) when they look tacked on.
But Sony...... you need to do two favors. higher more programmers. and expert programmers. guys from MIT or Cal Tech or Cornell or something. And asians. Put them all in the home project. Secondly, invest a whole lot of money in servers. Even though PSN's speed is adequate... I want it to be as fast as iTunes or any other online service. Especially if they add movie/video support via online. This related to home in that I feel if sony had more than enough servers to handle an open beta and much more..... we'd have an open beta. But it must be closed or else we hammer sony's servers. I don't care how much it costs.... just f'n add it. - bitterbug, on 04/22/2008, -1/+5Wait until you upgrade to automatic weapons!
- CrimsonBlur, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4For the love of God Sony! Home is a questionable project as it is, many people are, shall we say, "curious" about exactly what it will offer. I know I am anticipating it, but these delays are worrisome, to say the least.
Honestly, how many times does Sony have to drop the ball before the execs and management get it through their head they need to change their strategy? (and I'm not just talking about Home) - deaftly, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4im typing this while piloting my pla.....................ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
- asspants, on 04/22/2008, -1/+5I heard that the pool area will have only one entrance ladder.
And you know what that means? Lets just hope AIDS doesnt get in. - timusca, on 04/22/2008, -1/+5Yeah, I hear its better than 1080p. And its FREE!
- Markpdotcom, on 04/22/2008, -2/+5Its just a shame you have to pay :(
- Elranzer, on 04/22/2008, -2/+5No... PlayStation Home is Virtual PlayStation Barbies. If you guys wanna play with virtual Barbie dolls all day, be my guest. I'll be playing real games.
- staticneuron, on 04/22/2008, -2/+5Do you know how it works yet? how do you know its not a great idea? I think Adams comment is just pointing towards the nature of this bashfest. They would just find something else to bash sony about if home was released on time.
- pencilneck, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3So I'm still homeless?! It gets annoying that the release date keeps getting rolled back... I'm keeping an open mind about Home... I might like it and waste a lot of time in there... or I might find it a bigger waste of time than Myspace... but I won't know until I get my hands on it.
- walnutthewise, on 04/22/2008, -1/+4Since there is already a closed BETA, can't they just release an open BETA now and then release the "real" version in the Fall. They could get a lot of good user testing and feedback that way.
- samdu, on 04/22/2008, -3/+6Perhaps it's difficult to believe because it's not true...
- theaceoffire, on 04/22/2008, -1/+4You can interact with Home by releasing a patch if they don't decide to leave it in (as disabled).
Sort of like how they are adding rumble support to old games now. -
