- kinseyincanada, on 10/10/2007, -17/+197this just proves that the warrenty for the PS3 is worthless, while the warrenty for the 360 is extremely useful.
- NecroSexy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+138What if they tape up all the openings so dust can't penetrate?
- Responder656, on 10/10/2007, -33/+146PS3=CHUCK NORRIS
- konard, on 10/10/2007, -7/+94I wonder what the Microsofts Thermal Engineers are thinking.. "WTF???, the PS3 must be magic, its quiet, has built in power supply, and the error rate is lower than our 25%, damn thoose Sony Ninjas."
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -12/+94I would like a little more proof than just saying they did it, but seems pretty impressive.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+69For $600, the iPhone should shoot lasers.
- TaLoNxNL, on 10/10/2007, -7/+59Even though I own a 360 and a Wii, since I´ve seen a PS3 in action and played it.
I have to admit, it´s a kick ass machine! - badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -2/+49You should bring your creativity to the exciting world of stand-up comedy.

Blogspam .. though ps3vault seems to have one of the worst layouts ever designed so I care very little :P - PwnisherX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+44They should have stress tested them in Wal-Marts.
- ironman110, on 10/10/2007, -2/+43for 3oo dollars the xbox360 should work! lol
- SonnyW, on 10/10/2007, -6/+46Only on digg will people completely miss sarcasm that should be absolutely impossible to miss.
- vhold, on 10/10/2007, -4/+44Well, what's interesting/sad about the PS3 is Folding@Home. It probably uses the PS3's true processing capabilities better than any game. When running it, it noticeably heats up the room over a period of hours. There are tens of thousands of people running it, nearly nonstop. If there were the same durability problems on the PS3 as the 360, those machines would be failing left and right and we would be hearing about how folding@home destroys PS3s constantly.
( I have both systems, I barely play the PS3 because of the serious lack of games, but at the same time, I fear my 360 breaking, so I don't marathon game with it... perhaps because of the new warranty situation I should ) - dabears1218, on 10/10/2007, -0/+35Did someone with a pokemon for their username seriously just insult someone because they are "young"?
- codelogic, on 10/10/2007, -4/+37yeah so does mine, except not in a freezer or a sauna.
- narcosis219, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31Do you keep it on for hundreds of hours in a sauna? I think not.
- staticneuron, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31Is it me or is the amount of people who comment before reading the article are growing?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26Yep.. pretty sure that's what he was referring to.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -6/+31You're an idiot.
- wafflez, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26are you stupid? The reason people don't use fricking AC vents or radiators on their processors is not because it's overkill, (many people will go to extremes), but because it creates slight condensation in some cases and most electronics have an operating temperature range, which still requires heat at the lowest limit.
i'm sick of you all knowing pretending commenters who try to act like they're oh so much smarter than everyone else but are also stubborn as a mule and too lazy to do some research. - sinurgy, on 10/10/2007, -12/+34I'm guessing a lot of those 108 hours were movies since the PS3 doesn't have enough games to get close to playing 108 hours worth. :-P
relax fanboys...it's a joke! - AntBing, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2325%? How generous of you.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22I was thinking it was a bunch of developers using their programming skills to push the PS3 to its limits.
Let's just say that if they really did all this: wow. - Trax91, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23Correction: Internets.
- rainergamer, on 10/10/2007, -8/+27The point of this, if you'd even read the description, is to prove that while the XBox 360 dies randomly, the PS3 can withstand, at the very least, over 100 hours straight of hardcore usage. Of course there's probably going to be 60 "PS3 sucks $600 no games" comments if this hits the front page (which it shouldn't).
Anyway, I run my PS3 24/7, I haven't turned it off since I bought it (once it froze while I was watching a movie on my media server, that's it), so it's been on nonstop for like 2/3 months [since the freeze]. When I'm not actively playing a game/listening to music/watching a movie, I'm folding, and I haven't seen any slowdown, nor have I heard any annoying-ass fans kick in. Bitch is hot though, but it makes for a nice footwarmer. I'm sure you could heat up a cold house during the winter with the PS3 :p - oojamaflip2006, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23This seems like the only appropriate place to ask this question but...will it blend?
- TheTjalian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18This was 108 hours continual use, as in, consistently using it, not just leaving it on. I'm pretty sure the Playstation 3 can be left on for longer, but why would you? This test is designed to take the PS3 to uses where most gamers wouldn't actually take it.
- ironman110, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19people should nt be so blindly loyal to a company that sold them a piece of crap! You are getting screwed for God`s sake. Listen to the facts! Use your heads! I dont care if xbox is american or if their ads are better etc. ; IT BREAKS DOWN!!!LOL
- BattleScars, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16pwned
- comrademikhail, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Yes, traditionally electronics run better in colder environments, but it was still an extreme temperature and proved how well it could hold up. The heat test: How could you even complain about that?! Here, try this: Go take the computer you're typing with now, and putting it in a 100-120F degree room while using CPU/GPU intensive programs and see how long it holds up for 108 hours. That's a long time to use an electronic device at that warm of a temperature. Who is going to use their PS3 at that temperature ever? Much less over "course of months of play"?
Seems like you just like to complain... - johnbellone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15You mean all that processing during the Folding@Home isn't enough? Seriously, I don't own a Playstation 3 (I actually own a Wii and a 360) but I can look through all this FUD. The console is good, albeit a bit too expensive currently, but you fanboys on both sides are seriously not looking at the big picture. They are doing all of this because the 360 is overheating and giving the three rings of death.
We aren't hearing the same things about the Wii or the PS3. Give both Sony and Nintendo some credit there. I'll be buying a PS3 once it drops a little bit more (and more games come out for it). Currently I don't even use the Wii due to the same thing (lack of games, lack of online, etc). Stop with the FUD and look at the facts already. - arjie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Maybe he meant Neil Diamond. But he doesn't play metal. Hmm...
- roxya, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17Folding@home??!
- RedHerringHack, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Indeed I fold. 24/7. But it does give out significant heat. I have had mine since launch, been on since then, except by accident. I have a 360 too. vhold said it.
- TridenTBoy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14penetrate, hahahahaha
- Jesse, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Who cares about your computer?
- BattleScars, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Did you even read the article? They cooled it AND heated it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17diamond is a metal?
- liutang, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I hate it when people do this to perfectly working hardware. There are some very underprivileged children that have nothing like this to play with. Donate it to a charity for crying out loud.
- daridave, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Yeah, I agree. The PS3 [at this moment] is more interesting for its other uses than gaming. In a way, I used to say adding all that junk was lame, but if you think about it... thank God they did, or else the PS3's would probably have suffered taken the same route as the Nintendo64 ... back on the shelves for the other system.
Anyway, I'm not surprised by this. At first I heard comments from people who worked at Futureshop that the return ratio for PS3 was just as bad, if not worse, than the Xbox 360's (at launch!) ... then that slowly faded to "they're good."
Plus, if you consider the amount of money SONY spent on R&D for the chips in there, it would just be WRONG if they weren't reliable. I'm not dissing Microsoft, but SONY did do a better job at this.... plus with the over-one-year delay caused by BLU-RAY, they had more than enough time to perfect the rest of the hardware...
But, hey, just like the PSP... good system -- it's SONY's philosophy about video games that's terribly flawed, and they can't seem to fix it... because they never, in the past generations, neeever changed it. They always used the same logic... it worked in the past, it's old now. But the hardware rocks... - hulez, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15whats the difference between the PS3 and chuck norris? Chuck Norris is popular
- ccxftw, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15My PS3 has been running non stop for more than a month. Folding@Home FTW !
- mushoo, on 10/10/2007, -18/+28Call me back when they do this to it and it still works.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5182120792114826501 - Jesse, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Agreed, there's alway some cynical ***** who thinks that sarcasm = intelligence. How about you turn down the sarcasm, Mewchu, and read a basic ***** circuits book.
- Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10indeed
- otakushark, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Apparently "using a larger chunk of its hardware" means turning on the power button...
http://www.switched.com/2007/04/30/xbox-360-elites-showing-up-dead-on-arrival/ - robdiggity, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I haven't turned mine off since the folding@home client was released. Not sure how many months of continuous use that is, but its a lot. I am either playing it, or it is folding. It is never off.
- Wormfather, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11The PS3 has two modes, off and kill.
There is no game selection, only games that the PS3 allows to live. - tatical, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I call BS on your post. How can you be smart enough to remove your HDD, but too dumb to back it up when they want it back. It's really easy to do.
- EntangledPhysx, on 10/10/2007, -14/+24Show me a 360 undergo identical conditions. If it fails, then yes the PS3 is better built. Until then, there is no control in this experiment, and is thus void.
