- MrFisty, on 08/19/2009, -7/+211Microsoft, take note of the position of the power supply: inside the console.
- Zamfir, on 08/19/2009, -11/+136Considering the existing design flaws of the 360, can you imagine what would happen if Microsoft tried to put the power supply IN the console!? The 54% RROD rate would sky rocket to 90%+ and burn down gamers' homes.
- lcaldas, on 08/19/2009, -7/+121Definitely cheaper looking....
- Csaliture, on 08/19/2009, -6/+86the xbox is pretty ugly. It looks like a slightly smaller version of the dell optiplex on my desk at work. If it were white...

Tell me that ***** doesn't remind you of the xbox - anexanhume, on 08/18/2009, -1/+70Nice, the contents of the box confirm the power supply is still internal. Can't wait for someone to run this with a Kill-A-Watt, as I'm fairly certain it's sporting a 45nm Cell and should be quite a bit lower at full load.
- mrfreeziexp, on 08/18/2009, -9/+71Man, between this and the Zune HD, September is going to be a good (albeit expensive) month.
- MusicalGenius1, on 08/18/2009, -4/+60I've been patiently waiting for a PS3 with a 45nm processor. Actually back to I think September 2007 when it was first released that they had shrunk it to 45nm.
Have a plan and stick to it. My time has come. - darkcthulhu, on 08/19/2009, -3/+58No doubt! I wonder what the 360 failure rate would have been if that had done that though.
- 2Deluxe, on 08/18/2009, -4/+56Mmm, so now it's more like a sandwich press than a George Foreman grill. That being said, I'ma still buy one <3
- phqu88, on 08/19/2009, -7/+55Anyone else felt like they were looking at console porn?
- MrFisty, on 08/19/2009, -3/+49The internal heat would probably cause the console to look like Cthulhu himself.
- damack, on 08/19/2009, -3/+43The 45 nm cell has been confirmed by Sony. The power draw from the console is down from 280 Watts to 250 Watts.
It's actually quite surprising they didn't move the power supply out of the console. I wonder how big the PSU in the PS3 actually is?
Having said that with the die shrinks to the CPU and GPU it probably gives off a less heat so they can probably afford to pack in more components and keep a relatively low thermal density packet.
Microsoft take note power supply belongs INSIDE the console. - AeroZeppelin, on 08/18/2009, -4/+43Yeah, it's so weird that companies release their products right before the holiday season!
- unlimitedmp, on 08/19/2009, -9/+44Personally, I'm a glossy man.
- Zamfir, on 08/19/2009, -3/+36Oh but I think you do! Enough to click on the story and even leave a steaming pile of your pointless drivel.
- xgambetx, on 08/19/2009, -31/+64that is UGLY.
- ShingoEX, on 08/19/2009, -6/+38A $99 PS2 improved the backwards compatibility
- Csaliture, on 08/19/2009, -3/+34I like the old one better in terms of aesthetics. This one is nice if you are prone to taking your console with you but that shiny black monolith looks fantastic sitting next to the rest of my home theater components.
- coolcole93, on 08/18/2009, -13/+41Wii, lol.
- ShingoEX, on 08/19/2009, -2/+30That's all the 360 needs...more internal heat.
I'm still curious about how hot this machine gets. My current PS3 heats my room. - gnash, on 08/19/2009, -4/+29Does anyone else kind of hate the unboxing trend?
It is kind of like someone opening your presents for you and telling you how cool it is. - TomGfromCanada, on 08/19/2009, -2/+27i'm gonna get me one of those.
- pandaboy99, on 08/19/2009, -4/+28Just in time for uncharted 2 and gran turismo 5!
- DarkShroud, on 08/19/2009, -1/+23It's nice not having to deal with a giant damn brick on the shelf. The PS3 can be placed on a wall mounted rack without issue. Especially now that it will have Brivia Sync built in. I'll be buying one of these just just for use as a Blu-ray player now.
- yocouchdigga, on 08/19/2009, -8/+30Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
that was a joke, right? - ShingoEX, on 08/19/2009, -2/+23"The only reason I'd want a PS3 would be if MGS4 would finally come out."
You completely lost me there, bro. - AeroZeppelin, on 08/19/2009, -0/+20Thanks guys for restating what I said twice. I guess there wasn't enough sarcasm in the first one.
- dexter311, on 08/19/2009, -1/+21Nice. This actually might be cheap enough now (both in terms of initial outlay and power consumption), just have to wait for GT5 and I'm all set...
- Syphon9, on 08/19/2009, -1/+20Dugg for rollercoaster tycoon.
- 2Bnor2B, on 08/19/2009, -5/+24I do not know why you are being dugg down. While Microsoft's RROD is well known, PS3 laser deaths are becoming very common, especially after 2-3 years. Although a replacement laser runs only $60-110 and it is easy for a user to replace, they are getting very hard to find.
- inactive, on 08/19/2009, -3/+22What's unreliable about PSN?
- motivatedguy, on 08/19/2009, -2/+21What game costs $120???
- DoTheFandango, on 08/19/2009, -0/+19It's called creativity man, try it out.
- apena89, on 08/19/2009, -3/+21With your game running in the machine, test the aesthetic variations from horizontal to vertical.
- Zamfir, on 08/19/2009, -4/+22It's a good thing you're not CEO of a major consumer electronics company... I would feel very sympathetic to anyone who bought stock in your company as there is no doubt the company would tank in 6 months.
- ShingoEX, on 08/19/2009, -5/+22How is it a bad decision by a company when the PS2 consoles are selling at an incredible pace?
Besides, the irony in your statement is the fact that Sony *would* have to spend more money to fix the issue if they wanted b/c back in the PS3. The whole reason they axed it was to cut the production cost of the machine.
Now, they've been able to trim enough off the system so they can sell it at this price without a huge loss, and people want them to add it back, which countermands the entire purpose of making a slim console... - felman87, on 08/19/2009, -1/+18This post must be from 2007
- tacojohn48, on 08/19/2009, -1/+18glossy scratches too easily. That is probably the reason they went with a matte finish.
- chaosatom, on 08/19/2009, -2/+18Some key features:
The front is replaced with buttons.
it doesn't have a turn-off button in the back. It just goes to stand-by.
It's hard-drive is replaceable.
It has 120 Gb hard-drive. - Ajajadude, on 08/19/2009, -2/+18Unless you're constantly moving the sucker around, there's no reason you should be getting scratches on the console.
- om3ganet, on 08/19/2009, -9/+25I do hope the problems with the blu-ray drive are fixed in the new PS3. I've had my PS3 repaired twice now due to the laser dying. Ironically my Xbox 360 hasn't died yet.
- felman87, on 08/19/2009, -1/+16@chess
But the PS3 costs more than $300 in the UK. The prices don't match up. - ZombieSociety, on 08/19/2009, -2/+17The same game twice.
- tacojohn48, on 08/19/2009, -6/+21Didn't you know this is a Sony fanboy thread?
- Philbert, on 08/19/2009, -1/+16Scratches? What are you doing to it? Mine sits on a shelf and I only touch the panel with the buttons unless I'm dusting it or something.
- Cyborg326, on 08/19/2009, -4/+18While I don't have much reason to own a PS3, I think the original design looks slicker then the slim, ignoring other factors like weight and that the new design looks like it will fit better in entertainment racks.
That's nice they brought the price down though. - assasinine, on 08/19/2009, -2/+16Hrm, maybe it's fate that this comes out just as my 360 RRODs. $300 for a PS3 vs $100 to fix my 360... decisions.
- CowGoesMooo, on 08/19/2009, -4/+17It looks like a Chinese knock off to me. =/
- ModernTenshi, on 08/19/2009, -2/+15Also, built-in WiFi, no need for a stupid dongle.
- Zamfir, on 08/19/2009, -3/+16Unlike the 360, the PS3 is a top, not bottom.
