- shinythingy, on 02/12/2008, -8/+208If it had a half eaten apple on it engadget would blow a load
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -60/+228Denied. That is an un-ergonomic mess even worse than the original DS. That's more suited for a cell phone than a gaming machine.
Just look at the position your thumbs would have to be to use the thumbsticks. My thumbs would fall off screaming in agony.
The PSP is dead sexy as it is.
Yank UMD? Yea, remove the ability to play games, moron.
And it already has flash memory. That's what memorystick is. - kinghajj, on 02/12/2008, -8/+93Who says you need UMDs to play games? ;)
- wontstoptalking, on 02/12/2008, -3/+66Dual analog sticks FTW!!
- MatchStick, on 02/12/2008, -14/+48i don't care how sexy this looks, it's not designed for gaming, more like a cell phone of media player.
- o0matt0o, on 02/12/2008, -6/+32The law.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -1/+26boy... the placement of the L1 and L2 buttons looks very uncomfortable.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -13/+34Jesus, calm down much?
The guy is just trying to show his work. Any critic of a creative piece is just that, a critic. Until you come up with something better, you are only a bitter critic. You are basically doing what any 4 year old can do. Bitch. - JayD16, on 02/12/2008, -2/+22Sure it looks sexy but if you can't fit it in a pocket it shouldn't count as a hand held device. The current PSP fits this spec...by a hair.
- RedS0x, on 02/12/2008, -1/+19Not only is it not good, it's not original: http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/03/iriver-g10-to-en ... (sorry.)
- chilipeppers4u, on 02/12/2008, -1/+19Looks like it'd be great at causing hand cramps. Besides the "real thing" can be pretty sexy - just depends on how you look at it.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/21338668@N07/22319461 ... - inactive, on 02/12/2008, -0/+17Except for those $99 portable DVD players with the 8" screen.
- iticu, on 02/12/2008, -0/+16You've got some dumbass friends, then. =|
- FoxOrian, on 02/12/2008, -1/+14True. I feel like if I were really pressing on those buttons/sticks, the thing would flip out of my hands and hit my chest... then the ground.
- ReyX, on 02/12/2008, -2/+14The visual of the average digger wearing "semi-tight pants" makes me a bit queasy.
- octophobic, on 02/12/2008, -1/+13You poor thumbless bastard.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -5/+16It isn't, *****.
- stevealford, on 02/12/2008, -0/+11You're being buried because you sound like an emo. Also, the fact that you go so far as to mention that they're 34x32 slim boot-cut jeans instead of just saying they're semi-tight would imply that your girlfriend is named Kyle. I'm not judging you for wearing tight pants, just for bitching about how your accessories don't incorporate into your wardrobe like you're a woman. If you want to take your PSP, wear looser pants THAT DAY... or take a backpack... or have Kyle keep it in his purse... or get a Playgear Pocket and tie the lanyard to your beltloop... there are lots of solutions to your "PSP is too fragile and big for my tight pants" problem.
You aren't buried for mentioning the DS... most technophiles here on digg own and enjoy both systems. It's profoundly douchey of you to assume to know why you're being buried and be so oblivious to the real reason. - lolinyerface, on 02/12/2008, -1/+11Not everyone is a fatty
- Ki77erB, on 02/12/2008, -2/+12You'll get much better battery life if you get custom firmware and rip all those UMD's to iso's and put em on your mem card. That wouldn't be illegal cause you own them. Just a thought.
- Jonmad17, on 02/12/2008, -2/+11Flash memory is still too expensive for gaming. Especially considering that PSP games can be as big as PS2 games. We still have to wait a few years to be able to replace Disk. The DS uses ROM cards but DS games are much smaller than PSP games.
- Jonmad17, on 02/12/2008, -4/+13My thumbs fell off using the normal PSP thumbstick.
- duo8675309, on 02/12/2008, -0/+9What type of software was this created in? I've seen some amazing photoshop work in my day, and have no doubt that this could be 100% created in photoshop despite the amazing level of detail, but who on earth would use such talent on a PSP mockup? Surely another program was used. 3D Studio Max, perhaps?
- chingy1788, on 02/12/2008, -3/+11replace the dpad and other buttons with a full fledged keyboard and touchpad, have the screen be 7" and can be flipped up
and you have you're self a very nice looking eeePC - octophobic, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8It would make a great portfolio piece if you're looking for work.
- iticu, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7Put it in your purse then?
- InitialDMP5, on 02/12/2008, -2/+9most people that buy the PSP aren't buying UMD games. Thats why data on PS game sales is so low, but system sales are growing. Its pretty easy to find games online and stick them onto a high capacity memory stick.
- reevolutn, on 02/12/2008, -1/+8NSFW! i can see its unmentionables
- duo8675309, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7Take a look at the rest of the gallery. Amazing stuff in there!
- NinjaPirateDude, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7how did they find a way to cramp my fingers more!
- FoxOrian, on 02/12/2008, -1/+7It would be an ergonomic mess as stated,
but I'm still gong to give it a digg for the impressive effort. - RedS0x, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6And it also looks like once it hit the ground, it would shatter.
- DarkShroud, on 02/12/2008, -1/+7I just want a button layout to match the duel shock controllers for remote play. Yes playing PS2 games would help but I'm not too greedy.
- bigbadgoat, on 02/12/2008, -1/+7there are two L buttons at the top of the side of the mock up, just after it starts to widen at the base
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -2/+8That's it? The placement of every button looks very uncomfortable
- verkon, on 02/12/2008, -1/+7Oh, yeah, that thing... Sorta forgot about that
- precision256, on 02/12/2008, -6/+12Youre a douche its the ***** internet
- Gir53457, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6The PSP could have had some great FPS games if they only included dual analog nubs.
- DirtyFrank, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5Am I the only one amused by the user name of the submitter?
- bagboyrebel, on 02/12/2008, -1/+5have you actually used one, I have no problem with UMDs
- fafaforza, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4What I have a problem with in articles like this (unrelated to the OP) is the author's discounting of the current design and engineering that went into to current PSP. This is nothing more than a fictitious mock up. Let's see this actually made, and at a cost that can be sold to the public without a huge loss on each unit.
This is akin to all those sci-fi authors that are credited with "inventing" much of today's technology. Sure, you can dream it up, just as anyone can dream up a personal hover vehicle, or a piece of paper that can display dynamic content. But try doing the actual engineering and making the item a reality. That's a whole different ballpark. And I have a problem when engineers that make these things a reality get no credit, much the same way that a doctor that saves someone's life gets no credit, and instead God is praised as the savior. - solidus636, on 02/12/2008, -1/+5This looks horrible. The trapezoid shaped concept image of the PSP2 looked better. This thing is huge and the PSP is meant for portability.
- jaradjohnson, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Ripped: http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/03/iriver-g10-to-en ...
- alchemist27, on 02/12/2008, -1/+5http://www.flickr.com/photos/23754022@N08/
- gincarnated, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Not only does that not look comfortable, it's a complete rip off of something I think iRiver released a while back.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -2/+6No it's not. UMDs are the same size as Gameboy carts.
- robdiggity, on 02/12/2008, -1/+4Well, I would criticize for stopping at "Good gawd y'all" when trying to sound like the late James Brown. At the very least the author could have dropped a "Jump Back! Kiss Myself!" or an occasional "Hah! Hah! Zeebiduhuuuhuuuh!"
- alibanana, on 02/12/2008, -3/+6Actually i'd say Engadget is one of the least biased sites out there, especially when it comes to Apple. Read their takes on the iPhone or Macbook Air if you don't believe me.
- cowboy86, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3I wouldn't put a PSP in the "sexy" catergory. However I would put Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel in that catergory. You know you're a ***** nerd when you start calling game systems/portable game systems sexy.
