- whateverHeSaid, on 12/19/2007, -11/+77Played it for the first time last night using mouse and keyboard. Absolutely the best FPS experience ever on a console. Finally, a console FPS the way it was meant to be played! I only hope other developers follow Epic's example.
- Azimuth1, on 12/19/2007, -9/+55I really don't get why the 360 version doesn't also have mouse and keyboard support. It's made by freaking Microsoft, you'd think they'd be all over that kind of thing.
- inactive, on 12/19/2007, -21/+65It isn't equal to PC version completely. The gameplay is slower then on the PC:
http://spong.com/article/14406/Mark_Rein_Why_Is_Un ... - Mejogid, on 12/19/2007, -5/+43Actually... it's because of an executive decision: they think that by making artificial distinctions between their consoles and PCs (keyboard/mouse, internet browser etc) they'll be able to prevent them jeopardising each others sales. There's absolutely no technical reason they couldn't add mouse/keyboard mouse support.
- digggggggggg, on 12/19/2007, -10/+44It's probably cheaper to get a ps3 than to build a equally capable PC.
Well, that is, unless you already have one. - Azimuth1, on 12/19/2007, -7/+34Oh, so that's why they added a video store, DVD player, HD-DVD add-on, and music playback capabilities.
- inactive, on 12/19/2007, -10/+35Conversely, I have no reason to upgrade my PC.
PS3 FTW - sishgupta, on 12/19/2007, -2/+24If you want something pre-made for you and you just want to use it go for a console.
If you want something that is your hobby, where you can learn and grow with your machine, where you can customize it exactly how you see fit (hardware, apps, physical appearance). Build (or yes, even buy) a PC.
If my house was on fire, the first inanimate object i would save is my PC. Even though it isn't the same physically since I had it custom built 7 years ago when i was 14, I do consider it the same machine. I have changed every part of this machine during the course of its life and I have learned so much about computing from that.
No console could ever offer the fun I have had and knowledge I have gained from this hobby.
That said I don't see why people have this pc v console debate anyway. They are different products, which do different things, targeted at different markets and yes, much different prices. Theres nothing wrong with owning a PC AND a console, and if you want to just own one or the other who gives a crap. - inactive, on 12/19/2007, -7/+29"However, my $270 graphics card"
You missed his point. PS3 has a lot more bang for it's buck. - dansmeek, on 12/19/2007, -3/+22hi captain obvious!
- Shogi, on 12/19/2007, -5/+24Epic has been top of my list of favorite developers for quite some time. Hell, some of the best games of the year run on their Unreal 3 engine, and so far all the games they have made in-house have been nothing less than awesome.
- bl4ckfl4g, on 12/19/2007, -8/+26So 30fps = PC now?
- digggggggggg, on 12/19/2007, -8/+26Did you even read the ***** article? The PS3 version has every feature the PC version does, including the ability to mod, and use a mouse+keyboard for the controls.
Quit trying to sound like an expert on console design when you can't even spell the world "equal" correctly. - getatmedigg, on 12/19/2007, -0/+16I think Ut3 was developed for consoles from the start. After Gears Of War, I think Epic (esp. publisher Midway) realized they have a potential cash cow. I don't think the next installment will even reach PC. Epic may abandon the PC all together b/c of the $ from selling console titles. It's a shame b/c I loved UT2004 but UT3 felt too arcade for me. The weapons felt less accurate. It's pretty as hell but too spastic. I felt like I was mashing my keyboard/mouse to death. For what, a high score? Maybe I will return if there is a UT2004 feel mod for UT4, they fix the damn server browser (favs pls) or Gorz and the modders make it better
Consolers, buy extra controllers. - 4g1vn, on 12/19/2007, -4/+18The PS3 cost $399.00. Find me a PC that will play UT3 (looking as good and moving as fluid) for less than that.
I've been a strong supporter of PC gaming however, the effort that Epic put behind this project is bridging the gap. - martinaoe2, on 12/19/2007, -4/+18yeepppo waaa better
- SymbolicChaos, on 12/19/2007, -1/+15Egads, the PC vs. console system debate? I am certainly for one of them over the other, but can I just insert a carnivorous earwig into my brain instead of arguing why this time? It's much quicker and slightly less painless.
- HentaiJeff, on 12/19/2007, -1/+14@Trat
Or the excellent environment called Linux. the UT games have native linux versions - coheedcollapse, on 12/19/2007, -4/+17It already is. You can filter out KB/Mouse users in PS3 UTIII
- badassninja, on 12/19/2007, -28/+41Oh good, then there is no reason for me to buy a PS3 then.
- Sabin, on 12/19/2007, -5/+18MS has stated that they want the Xbox line to be just a game system hence no web browser and no KB/mouse support in games.
- miloez, on 12/19/2007, -14/+26yeah but to play UT3 on a PC you probably need a $399 graphics card, not a $399 console.
- dansmeek, on 12/19/2007, -2/+13"slower aspect of the 360 game" -- wait... can i borrow your flux capacitor? from what i've heard, ut3 for the x360 has been postponed indefinitely
- shredswithpiks, on 12/19/2007, -4/+15although you can get a PS3 for the cost of simply a comparable video card and processor for the PC (consoles are WAYYYY cheaper just sayin...)
- ferrariman60, on 12/19/2007, -7/+18I'm willing to trade graphics for value. Also, Unreal engine 1/2 were famous for scaling down very well, and UE3 is the same. It will run just fine on a modest system, I assure you. Set the settings to PS3 resolution/detail, and you could probably run it on an $800 PC. Yeah, I know that's TWO ps3's- but you can do a lot more with a computer than a ps3.
- plingboot, on 12/19/2007, -8/+19"then != than"
Are these just typos or a frightening cool new trend? I fear the latter. It annoys the hell out of me. - magicaltrevor, on 12/19/2007, -8/+18OK, stick with your PC version. I hope you've shelled out the big bucks for a nice 30" monitor and ultra-powerful PC.
And by the way, the PS3 version does indeed have tweaks and mods. - estvir, on 12/19/2007, -5/+15Game system AND media centre.
- inactive, on 12/19/2007, -2/+12The guy who made both games says this one looks better than Gears of War.
And after seeing levels with colors other than brown, I agree with him. - Van3ck, on 12/19/2007, -5/+14Buy a PC and play every FPS the way its meant to be played!
- fudsak, on 12/19/2007, -1/+10The hardware in consoles might but be up to par with the best PCs, but for two reasons consoles might be arguably better gaming machines.
First, when you compare the price of a computer with the same hardware to a PS3 or 360, you're talking hundreds of dollars more and you have to build it on your own. Granted, a PC can do a lot more and should be worth more than a system.
Second, games are optimized for the hardware in each console. That means that worse hardware may run the game better than the PC just because developers know exactly what kind of processor/video card/etc you have. They know the limitations and they push the envelope. When you're PC can have anything in it. they have to prepare for everything and that makes the game a bit less efficient.
All that being said, I think we are in the wave of game consoles right now. Wait until about 2 or 3 years when the console hype goes down and PCs are really outperforming the consoles, you'll see more hype around PC articles. Then the next gen of systems comes out and we start all over. - GerrardIsLegend, on 12/19/2007, -2/+11Marketing $$ for Halo3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Marketing $$ for UT3
- ZenMojo, on 12/19/2007, -5/+14You get the mods on the PS3 version, maybe even for free (this isn't Xbox Live, after all, where they charge you for horse armor).
- gooch2000, on 12/19/2007, -1/+10Why is it when anything positive is said about the PS3 it's 'propaganda'? Reguardless of who's digging it; are you saying the article is fake?
I'm fairly certain if the article was about the 360 you wouldn't say that.
BTW this is DIGG, not a billboard in Walmart. Think about the typical user on this site. Do you really think someone (on digg) is going to be induced to buy a PS3, XBOX or Wii because of a positive, highly dugg story? ... think about it. - Sabin, on 12/19/2007, -3/+11Thanking god i have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard right now...picking this game up on friday :D
- dansmeek, on 12/19/2007, -7/+15bleh. you are misinformed. on the ps3 there is an option to set the game to run as fast as the pc or (OMG) even faster than the PC! it was a choice in favor of those using controllers. but if you use a kb/mouse - most people set it to a higher speed.... sometimes faster than the PC. i personally like it a tad slower as weapons like the flak cannon become more useful
- Po0py, on 12/19/2007, -9/+17I'm playing this on the PC. It is probably my game of the year. I've played all the other contenders but I'm having most fun with UT3. It offers, in the long wrong, the best value for money. Even more so than Orange Box, imho. Epic will be releasing free stuff as usual. Mods of course are huge on Ut3 and many of them will be of extremely high standards. If your into fast paced fps games UT3 is the way to go, this year.
- spyrochaete, on 12/19/2007, -4/+12Bang for the buck? Are you arguing that you can do more on a PS3 than you can on a similarly priced PC?
The way I see it, after factoring the price of a television they're really the same price, yet the PC can do a zillion other things and is upgradeable. If I'm not mistaken the PS3 has the equivalent of an NVidia 7xxx video card which is already old news in the PC world. On PC you could have UT3 running in a window with an MP3 player, web browser, email, IM client, and bittorrent running in the background. - Arrestedevelopr, on 12/19/2007, -2/+10Not UT players.
- AttackingHobo, on 12/19/2007, -3/+11No.
- Pinionist, on 12/19/2007, -1/+9You see, UT3 is a game about fun playing fragin' experience, not wanking to the polygons and how fast your computer is. Crysis is a beautiful game, but only for the minors - and that's not something I'd like to become a trend in gaming industry.
- martinaoe2, on 12/19/2007, -8/+15best game... cant wait to get it for da ps3!!!
- CrimsonBlur, on 12/19/2007, -1/+8All Gears of War multiplayer matches consist of two 4-player teams and the maps are tiny. It's a completely different play style. The graphics have to be scaled somewhat when you are playing on huge maps with up to 32 players. Considering that, the graphics are pretty awesome.
That said, the excessive bloom effect is a bit annoying and it seems like there are some issues with the shader effects on the PS3 (looking at the water effects make this most obvious). Lots of games these days are overdoing the bloom lighting, but UT3 seems to have cranked that up to 11. - ArrakisDune, on 12/19/2007, -0/+7I have no idea what you just said.
- GerrardIsLegend, on 12/19/2007, -2/+9I don't know about you, but I like my 42" TV more than my 20" monitor. Now that I can use keyboard and mouse it's even better.. if only I could use that set-up in CoD4.
- BugMeNot2, on 12/19/2007, -0/+7It runs at 1280x720 (720p) on the PS3.
- DarkTrancer, on 12/19/2007, -6/+13It is a great game, and it is "good" on ps3 but lets get some perspective here it is not even in the same league as Pc.
I myself have been playing since Unreal days when it challenged the Quake franchise and won over a lot of new people for it`s faster and harder game play.I bought the collectors edition of UT3 the day it come out and yes it is really good, however it lost something when it became all "consolised" the menus are so poor it`s "unreal". I like many others have gone back to UT2k4 in hopes that one day some mods might make UT3 more how it should have been. - staticneuron, on 12/19/2007, -1/+8That isn't the debate. I fully agree with you. But now I use my PC only for work. I use the PS3, 360 and wii for gaming. Honestly I do not see how people say PC is better for gaming unless your only interested in one or two genres of gaming.
- staticneuron, on 12/19/2007, -0/+6Tell 'em again, Crimson!
