- cygnus183, on 02/19/2008, -18/+285Like it or not, blu-ray played a part. It's only gonna sell faster now that there's a winner in the high def war. A blu-ray player and a next gen console at this price is a steal.
- GlossGreen, on 02/19/2008, -37/+174Interesting data. Looks like all the stuff said about the PS3 wasn't so accurate after all.
- uberhaqer, on 02/19/2008, -37/+172Was just a matter of time. Being a owner of both consoles and liking them both, I will have to admit the dust is now moving from the PS3 to 360.
- ChrisLawes, on 02/19/2008, -31/+146Amazing news for Sony, looks like MS need that price drop soon!
- Natetendo83, on 02/19/2008, -33/+141Good for Sony. Their gamble for making the most powerful system is finally paying off.
- Starflyer59, on 02/19/2008, -13/+108Why do I get the feeling that some of the sites spreading FUD in regards to the PS3 are now the same one's who are saying "I guess everyone was wrong about the PS3?"
- dansmeek, on 02/19/2008, -28/+102does this signal the end of MS users trolling sony articles?
- snoopdogg, on 02/19/2008, -34/+103This is strictly because of strong Japanese gamer support. It still way behind Xbox 360 in North America.
- etruscan, on 02/19/2008, -8/+72...and figure out that damn RRoD, which apparently isn't fixed.
- whateverHeSaid, on 02/19/2008, -13/+72Since when are troll posts on digg ever accurate?
- YouRookies, on 02/19/2008, -29/+81Just shows how much "analysts" and fanboys know. Nobody predicted the Wii to be sold out 1 year after launch. And very few predicted Blu-Ray and PS3 to do this well. Back to the charts Microsoft! Build a better machine next time doesn't have a high failure rate.
- mywhitenoise, on 02/19/2008, -7/+55I probably would have bought one if it weren't for that major issue. I have absolutely no patience with dealing with customer service, and shipping ***** out, and having to wait 3 weeks for it to return.
I honestly have no idea how so many people could put up with that for so long. - minoss, on 02/19/2008, -7/+53I also like that fact it is quite easy to upgrade the harddrive on the PS3. It's pretty much plug and play plus it doesn't void the warranty. Turn that 40GB into a 250GB PS3 for $120. On the xbox360 its a gigantic pain in the ass (ghost old drive to new drive on a pc), and it only works with specific models of harddrive MS lets you use so 120GB is the cap until they say otherwise.
- offspring06, on 02/19/2008, -9/+52Microsoft's biggest problem is the 360s unreliability. I would have bought one a lot sooner if it was a reliable console. I have had one for 7 months now and it is a great console but it always lingers in the back of my mine that I will get the RROD.
- coheedcollapse, on 02/19/2008, -3/+45Completely. Last year I couldn't say anything good about the PS3 no matter how truthful it was without being buried in oblivion. It's weird to watch trends on Digg.
- diggrim, on 02/19/2008, -12/+53but, but, diggers told me the Blu-Ray was going to be the death of the PS3
- WhereAmI, on 02/19/2008, -4/+44Even Kevin Rose said it.
What now Kevin? - kingmanic, on 02/19/2008, -4/+43I have more money then sense.
- diggrim, on 02/19/2008, -21/+59personally I think the PS3 deserves to do well because it actually innovates with the CellBE and Blu-Ray. The Dreamcast and Saturn also "deserved" to do well, imho.
- DutchMacUser, on 02/19/2008, -15/+47Actually the PS3 outsld the XBox 360 in the U.S. in January. This trend should continue over the next few months as people look for a cheap Blu-ray player.
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -30/+61VGChartz IS INACCURATE. Outside of the USA (and for all we know, in the USA too) they have absolutely no way of tracking data. They just GUESS THINGS - they do NOT get data from anyone like NPD/Chart Track etc do.
I bury every story from this stupid, stupid website as inaccurate because it is - just look at the last round of real NPD numbers against VGChartz's stupid guesses.
These guys are a bunch of crooks profiting from telling lies. - CastrTroy, on 02/19/2008, -11/+41Anybody else notice where the Wii is on that chart? It's at double where the other guys are. I guess you don't need the fastest, most expensive hardware to be the best selling console.
- coheedcollapse, on 02/19/2008, -15/+40So...um...how many nails did you guys say that there were in the PS3's coffin again?
- truspector, on 02/19/2008, -8/+33no
- charlescheese, on 02/19/2008, -4/+29You're right they were wrong, Sony announced today that they've sold 10.5 million PS3's.
- KevinRoseMustDy, on 02/19/2008, -5/+29....uh, Digg?
- Daniel591992, on 02/19/2008, -10/+33Remember when they said Ron Paul would win? lol
- stevealford, on 02/19/2008, -2/+24I really like your honesty... and have some wonderful investement opportunities to speak to you about. Step right this way, sir.
- affanjam, on 02/19/2008, -4/+26Isnt this what happened to the PS2 back in the day...sales surprisingly went up after a couple of months.
- charlescheese, on 02/19/2008, -3/+24Wow, that is one hell of a stretch of an argument. So you're saying that it was actually a disadvantage for Microsoft to have NO competition for a year? Are you really saying that they sold LESS consoles that first year because they were the only one out with a next gen system? Holy *****, that's some ***** up thinking there. That's why they raced the 360 out the door without proper testing and a last gen optical media format, right, so they could have that double disadvantage. ooookay
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -4/+22That picture is a shop. The RRoD has been edited out.
- SeaBass22, on 02/19/2008, -7/+24It's not fixed... One of MS's demo units got the RRoD at the Game Developers Conference
http://digg.com/xbox/RRoD_on_display_at_GDC - mywhitenoise, on 02/19/2008, -1/+18And Microsoft and Nintendo aren't?
- erad222, on 02/19/2008, -0/+17WHAT THE HELL DIGG!?! YOU ALL HATED PS3 LIKE ***** 2 MONTHS AGO!
- mtwolf, on 02/19/2008, -2/+19True, i bought a PS3 for the Bluray, don't own any PS3 games.
- Asheis, on 02/19/2008, -6/+22This surprised me! I'm glad the PS3 is doing well.. if you actually take into account how expensive blu-ray players are, the PS3 is quite a bargain! You're getting a game system AND a next-gen movie player.. kinda hard to argue with the numbers! ;)
- pauleric, on 02/19/2008, -3/+19Why on earth would you buy a bunch of games that you don't have time to play? How can you enjoy something that you feel frantic to play though before the sequel comes out?
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -10/+26Correction, they guess a month ahead, then compare with other numbers and fix their numbers. Their guess is generally with 10-15% untill it is fixed. It doesnt matter how you look at it, the PS3 is still going to beat the 360 to the 10 million mark.
- diggrim, on 02/19/2008, -9/+25they need a little more than a price drop: http://digg.com/xbox/GDC_2008_Red_Ring_Of_Death_St ...
- staticneuron, on 02/19/2008, -6/+21People don't trust VGchartz?
Well how about MSN?
http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/provider ...
"Sony sold 4.9 million PS3 machine during the latest quarter for a total of 10.5 million machines sold since it went on sale late 2006."
Why do I get the image of many angry young males in their parents basement burying as inaccurate as soon as they read the title? - RevJonathan, on 02/19/2008, -11/+26I have all three, and my ps3 is still the dust-catcher. A lot of those Multi-platform titles (Rock Bank, Assassin's Creed, COD4) I got for 360 before I got my ps3. I'll be buying those types of games for ps3 now though since it is more interested in playing games than red-ringing.
Once Brawl is out though... It'll take something amazing to pull me from my Wii. - kingmanic, on 02/19/2008, -4/+19I own: Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, dynasty warriors: Gundam, Heavenly sword, COD4, Devil May Cry, UT3. Let me know which one is unplayable.
- amrush4th, on 02/19/2008, -45/+60Don't worry people, 360 fanboys will think of some other reason the PS3 sucks. They are professionals and will always pull through
- digjam, on 02/19/2008, -5/+20PS3 is like a Whisky...Gets better with age!
- br0ck, on 02/19/2008, -0/+15Of 2,380 Republican delegates, McCain has 881 and needs 1,191 to lock the nomination. He needs 310 of the remaining 980 delegates, or 32%. Ron Paul needs 1,175 of the remaining 980 which is impossible. Huckabee needs 974 of 980 which is unlikely even if Romney's 286 all go to him. - expert01, on 02/19/2008, -5/+19Yes, because a single month of increased sales can be used to estimate multiple months of sales, especially when the item in question has a history of not selling as well as its competitor in the market you are referring to.
And most regular people don't even know what HD is yet. - Nobi-Wan, on 02/19/2008, -1/+15Whaaa??? What phone service do you subscribe to?
- LuCiFer6, on 02/19/2008, -4/+18I'm not going to lie I thought I made a HUGE mistake in buying the PS3 back in July and until Uncharted.. came out I had no other reason for playing it. Now I find myself buying even the multi-platform games for the PS3 instead of my 360.
I've never been so happy to be proven wrong.. - moraldebate, on 02/19/2008, -18/+32I think it to have to with the launch of the Wii and Blu-Ray moreso than an actual PS3 vs. 360. Potential 360 owners became Wii owners and bought PS3s for Blu-Ray. There's still no game-related reason for me to buy a PS3.
- TheGreatBelow, on 02/19/2008, -18/+32The PS3 is the best HDM player money can buy.
