- bejayel, on 01/11/2008, -12/+140i was burried the other day for saying that the costs of building a PS3 have likely been drastically cut.
Now i would like to hand out a hardy ***** YOU to everyone who burried me. - mywhitenoise, on 01/11/2008, -26/+132I already felt that the $600 price was justified, expensive, but a bargain for what you're getting.
If they could drop the price of the 40GB down to $300 (which you can already do at sonystyle.com...I know, i'm lame for advertising), or even $350 that would probably rival, or maybe even sink the sales of the 360. 2008 is going to be a huge turning point for this console. - HyperJack, on 01/11/2008, -6/+45Shame you had to ruin that comment with the Anti-Sony ***** at the bottom.
- InfinitySnatch, on 01/11/2008, -4/+41You criminals are never satisfied.
- aqzman, on 01/11/2008, -3/+36This is great for Sony, hopefully they pass the savings onto consumers. If I am able to get one for $300.00CND I might get one just for the Blu-Ray player.
- charlescheese, on 01/11/2008, -5/+35Wait, so $350 plus $50 for xbox live PER YEAR is a bargain? The $400 PS3 has Wifi (add $100 for the xbox) has a hard drive that's twice as big, has free online play for life, constantly adds new features, has motion control if that's your thing, oh AND it's a the best movie player on the market across all formats that matter. Uh so you're telling me the $400 360, which is what it costs with a year of live, is a better value? That's horse *****.
- SaTaNKiLLeR, on 01/11/2008, -16/+43I paid full price and i am still happy it's just such a powerful machine. I am going to get another to use as a server and see if digg can kill her. http://ps3star.com/
- dsmx, on 01/12/2008, -3/+26Uncharted, Ratchet and clank and COD4 say hi
- LaughingMan11, on 01/11/2008, -4/+24They've already had a fair number of price drops.
- Ajajadude, on 01/12/2008, -2/+21You forget Warhawk!
- Abno, on 01/11/2008, -1/+19The 40GB will probably drop to $300 sometime this year. I wonder if they'll time it close to a big release. Price drop plus MGS4 late spring? I'm just speculating, obviously.
- darlyn, on 01/11/2008, -25/+42I'll buy a PS3 when the prices dips below $300 ...
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+17thx for the pic on the left
- Renton, on 01/12/2008, -3/+20They're just pissed because PS2 compatibility was cut.
- AntBing, on 01/12/2008, -4/+20Thats what I say about the 360. Under $300, HDMI, minimum 40GB hard drive, wireless..oh and some sort of HD player.
- rogerbly, on 01/11/2008, -3/+19wow. BluRay winning plus sub-$300(?) consoles... looks like they will be moving some PS3s this year.
- mywhitenoise, on 01/12/2008, -0/+15dugg for using my picture, haha.
- AzureRise, on 01/12/2008, -2/+17And Resistance!
- KineticShampoo, on 01/11/2008, -11/+26Will this result in a price drop for PS3? Doubt it. =(
- AirRaven, on 01/11/2008, -3/+18Worst meme ever? Quite possibly.
- mythicflux, on 01/12/2008, -1/+16Please.. as if Microsoft is any better in it's tactics.
- bejayel, on 01/11/2008, -2/+16http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/mywhitenois ...
rainbow 6, folklore, guitar hero, rockband. Such a lack of good games. If that many titles cant keep you distracted for a year, well thats your problem for playing to much games. ***** albino. - marvinmatthew, on 01/12/2008, -1/+15This is just speculation on my part:
-They're doing PS2 backward compatibility in software (virtualization to be specific), so they were able to eliminate all the old PS2 parts that were inside the PS3.
-The price of the Blu-Ray drives have fallen considerably since a year ago (probably related to the benefits from economies of scale).
-The GPU and Cell Processor are also benefiting from not being so cutting-edge (so they're cheaper to produce).
There's no reason to dig this guy down, his question is a reasonable one. - inactive, on 01/12/2008, -3/+16don't hate the playstation, hate the game
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -21/+33With the imminent death of HD-DVD and now this piece of news, could this be enough to make Sony rape the gaming industry once more?
(in a good way!) - ausfahrt, on 01/11/2008, -8/+20plenty of good games! leave now!
- Arrestedevelopr, on 01/11/2008, -5/+17I don't think Blu-ray will be the decider for this generation but it will help with the Sony's profitability in the long run.
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+12would love to play her station
- DeathRay2K, on 01/12/2008, -0/+12Maybe not, but the PS3 is a relatively cheap and effective Blu-Ray player, so people who just want to watch hi-def movies may buy one for that reason, and pick up a few games while they're at it.
- BinaryDelt, on 01/12/2008, -0/+12I love the 60GB. Best value of all the SKUs by far. :-D
- IowaWigman, on 01/11/2008, -4/+16BeeArePro - right, no good games. Uncharted? Ratchet and Clank? MLB the Show? COD4? UTIII? Yeah, you're right, no good games.
- hadiz, on 01/11/2008, -3/+15That's not really true. It turns out that is mostly due to the people making the comparisons not having a certain feature of the PS3 turned on, or on it's highest setting- namely the RGB full range set to full instead of limited, and the super-white output being turned on. It's important to note these are off by default.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HvdRfUmoqQ - Sutanreyu, on 01/12/2008, -1/+12Only that you have to purchase that HD player separately...
Thus why the PS3 is such a good deal. - Mufonix, on 01/11/2008, -2/+13good rape? 0_o
- AzureRise, on 01/12/2008, -0/+11-Drools uncontrollably- http://ps3star.com/wordpress/wp-content/themes/Ups ...
- hadiz, on 01/11/2008, -0/+11Actually, as reported by BusinessWeek. See that little "Read" hyperlink at the bottom of the article?
- bassist, on 01/11/2008, -11/+22This is great news for SONY. Their console is built for the next generation and coupled with the new Blu-Ray victory, and with many more games coming out this year, SONY is poised for greater success.
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -5/+16Jeez, more and more blogspam on digg.
http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/jan2 ...
Do you really need a site called "PS3 fanboy" to translate an article written in English into baby steps for you? I'll take proper BusinessWeek journalism over a blog any day, thanks. - Dracusis, on 01/12/2008, -1/+12And I don't think you have too many friends.
In a country where buying a gaming PC costs about the same than most consoles due to crazy entertainment import taxes, there is a growing stigma of dislike for the 360. For roughly the same price you can get a more versatile machine with 98% of the same games and run them in higher resolutions at a higher frame rate.
Most people I know that own 360s seems much more upset about them than the PS3 owners I know. - Coded1, on 01/12/2008, -0/+11Not upscaled though :)
- truebullfan, on 01/11/2008, -1/+12With improved sales numbers and MSG4 coming out in spring it would be probably wise for Sony to not cut the price at that time since people are going to buy the system no matter what. Next Summer will probably when we'll see a 50 dollar cut for both models.
- elvenseven, on 01/12/2008, -2/+12To cover up the RRoD cost.
- shinythingy, on 01/12/2008, -0/+10which has sister sites like wiifanboy.com. You do realize they are owned and run by the same company
- marvinmatthew, on 01/11/2008, -1/+11I think that they (Sony) need to be more concerned about selling units. If it means taking a loss on each unit (which they've been happy to do for the past year and a half), then so be it.
They need to build up their user base. Besides, the money isn't in the consoles, it's in the games. If you sell more consoles, you sell more games. - giddytonk, on 01/11/2008, -4/+14I'm not clear on what 'innards' were removed (?)
- Jeffler, on 01/12/2008, -1/+11299.99 is good, but 300.00, stay away!!!!
/sarcasm - funktimus, on 01/11/2008, -4/+14Trying to make up the money they lost on the first xbox?
- bejayel, on 01/11/2008, -4/+13Another question that comes up from this: If the PS3 costs so little to produce, then the 360 must be kicking around $250 - $300 give or take. So why does the 360 till cost so much?
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -6/+15Being "back in business"?
According to your price, Sony would lose over $150 per unit (factor packaging and shipping, plus the fact that retailers like making a profit). Down from $400, but they're still losing tons of cash. How many PS3s has sony sold this far? Losing $300-400 on each one sold...
Is that being "back in business"? - NiGHTSChao, on 01/12/2008, -0/+9How can you not like Folklore and Rachet & Clank?
