- timmyboywonder, on 10/11/2007, -8/+80I got one earlier today at Target for $499.99, the hundred dollar price drop and the 5 free Blu-ray make this an awesome deal !!
- PackerFan, on 10/11/2007, -10/+49If true, will be getting one soon!
- cvrti5, on 10/11/2007, -9/+45Blu-ray is kicking HD-DVD's ass, which is making me think of getting a PS3. Also, the PS3 isn't breaking down like the 360. However, there are no games on the PS3 yet. But you can put Linux on the PS3! Man, if the PS3 gets the games, then I will most likely get one. But I am still holding out.
- fusionFactor, on 10/11/2007, -8/+44Right, because the PS3 is a multitouch cell phone...
- eurocrisp, on 10/11/2007, -3/+31this happened much faster than i thought it would.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+30If your a Target employee, you get a 10% Team Member Discount, which would equal a $50 price cut in the final retail price. ;)
- LR2_, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22...Still waiting for amazon to change their prices.
- honkeybot5k, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20No, Four hundred and ninety-nine MOON dollars.
- spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18Being able to put linux on the PS3 isn't that much of a selling point for me as much as the fact that it DOESN'T void the warranty. That is awesome.
- kauko, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Just out of interest, is $500 really *that* much to Americans?
How many hours must an average middle class person in US put in to earn $500 (after taxes and so on)? What about someone who's flipping burgers somewhere? I've been under the impression that US people have the best purchasing power in the world.
PS3 is about 680 EUR here ($930 at current conversion rate!) and I have to put in about 50 hours of work (software) to earn that after income taxes and other compulsory fees. How does that compare?
Do I feel that PS3 is expensive? Yeah, especially since Xbox 360 (with HD) is about 370 EUR currently. Elite will be close to 500 EUR when it launches. - jg013c, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15In America there are high-cost/high-wage areas and low-cost/low wage areas. The PS3 is a lot more affordable in New York City than in rural West Virginia even though the price is the same.
- cnldelta, on 10/11/2007, -7/+20I'm buying the PS3 just to play BD
- inspecality, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15aJew being frugal? What are the odds?
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Late to the game how?
How the hell do you honestly think the system is 100% failure? - RonPaulPres2008, on 10/11/2007, -13/+26Let's hope they bring the 20GB back at $399! They would cream the competition then I'm sure (I'd buy it).
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12You are not a very good speller either.
- timmyboywonder, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13You do realize that they will deny that it will happen until they are ready to announce it. I suggest that you read up on a little old thing called the "Osbourne Effect" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_effect
- timmyboywonder, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13You sir are a Royal Ass I know I indeed did buy the PS3 today for $499.99, And I really don't care if you believe me or not
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Advice: Go back to third grade
- marcosc, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13The PS3's eventual price cut was supposedly going to be followed by a price cut for the Xbox 360. However, with the ~1 Billion dollar expenses for expanding the warranty to 3 years, Microsoft is probably not in the ideal situation to announce a price cut right now... Let's see what E3 brings to the table, for all sides.
- honkeybot5k, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Give up? Do you honestly think a multi-billion dollar company with the superior machine is just gonna go "WELL WE GAVE IT THE OLD COLLEGE TRY, TIME TO PACK IT IN, LOL!"
Dugg down for sheer TARDasity - jull1234, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Compared to what? Have you seen a movie in 1080p?
- airwalkery2k, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Or you can get a Target friend to do a favor for you. Or most other store employees for that matter.
- djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12"And Blu-Ray makes DVD seem like a bad joke."
Fixed for you. - CReyes4182, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15Motorstorm, Resistance Fall of Man, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Super Stardust HD and for those who dont have a 360 the Darkness, Rainbow Six Vegas, Oblivion, Fear and many more. Not to mention Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, WarHawk, Socom, and HOME which is FREE. The Blu-ray player is also really good and it also upscales regular DVDs to 1080p so if you don't want to buy blu-ray movies you can get almost the same quality out of your dvds. DVD players that upscale are pretty expensive too.
- afaik, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9What?
- statix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Target of New Jersey/ New York acknowledges the price drop on all their machines but not until 7/15...straight from employee
- somesthetic, on 10/11/2007, -6/+14lolz, xbox 360 elite cost $480 rofl.
you're an idiot. - honkeybot5k, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10So are most things these days like strippers, domestic cars, and the government. At least you can play porn and ride dragons with a PS3. AND IN THE END ISN'T THAT WHAT WE ALL REALLY WANT?
- archlich, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Just how is that sad, pray tell?
- YourSexyMama, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I'm not sure if anyone cares but here is the PDF for the 5 free Blue Ray disks:
http://www.bluraysavings.com/Summer_Bundle-Online_Order_Form.pdf - somesthetic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I honestly didn't expect a price drop so soon.
I'm betting it was the pressure from game developers/publishers rather than the public. - catharz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Umm, right...
In this country the PS3 is $1000 (AUD). The iPhone is likely to be at least that (probably more like $1200) if pricing for phones like the Treo are an indication.
So, if the PS3 gets a similar (percentage wise) price drop here as well it will likely be 25% cheaper than the iPhone. - triplehelix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5incorrect. manufacturing costs have dropped, specifically in the blu-ray parts, and sony is passing on the savings in order to be more competitive.
- inspecality, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Bad comparison.
- Niz1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Im in the UK and direct conversion of $500 is £250 is just a dream. Currently its £400 ($800) at the cheapest. Id be happy if it came down to the old US price or something close at least by GTA 4 release.
- DarkDx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7And what's the point of having two Wiis? Man, the ps3 is the best console so far, also you get a very complete media center!, and trust me, the ps3 is CHEAP, It's cheapest than anything, considering that it has blu-ray, 1080p, Media center, internet, linux.
Remember: blu-ray player + xbox 360 = too much money
you get the same with a ps3 ;) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5One company giving their product a short life-cycle isn't going to immediately change the whole industry.
- somesthetic, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8they wont!
- skoles, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Well, for me making $15/hr I could buy one with 50hrs of work (after taxes). But this also means I would go w/out paying bills or buying groceries for the week since I pay my bills in chunk instead of lump payments. So in order for me to afford one I would have to work 50hrs for a month to have the "extra" cash to spare on just the PS3.
But I'm also going to need some games, so there's another $200. Don't forget the extra controller-$60. But why waste this next-gen console/Blu-Ray player on my old SD TV? I'm gonna wanna probably consider getting a HD TV now as well. I guess a cheap-o model from Wal*Mart will do for the price of $1,000.
So now I have at least another $300 I'm gonna need to play with my PS3, that's another 1/2 a month of working overtime. Now, figure most middle-class American are getting severely underpaid right now (like me) that $15/hr isn't cutting it like it used to and the price of everything else is going up around you. So now most of that overtime I was working already is just going to keep up with bills, gas, groceries, etc. I wanna build SOME sort of savings ya know. So now I gotta stretch that PS3 budget out over a couple MORE months.
So here we are, 8 months in and I'm ready to buy my PS3. I eagerly walk up to the store and trip on the curb and the side of my head catches the corner of a fire hydrant. Next thing I know I wake up in a hospital bed with my family and doctors around me. They tell me I'm going to be OK, but my HMO wouldn't cover the cost of the MRI they needed to run on me. So now I'm out $4,000 of my own cash to pay for this unexpected medical expense because I have ***** medicare coverage.
So you see, for the "target audience" the PS3 is trying to gain, that $600 is quite a chunk of change. - nobiology, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5the 20 gig did have hdmi, just no wifi or card readers
- djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Microsoft has gone over 500 days without cutting the price on the 360. Doing so - even if it was only a $50 cut - would help them boost sales, which are lagging behind expectations right now.
At $479 with no hi-def disc player or wi-fi on board, the Elite is suddenly looking like a not-so-good deal in the face of the $499 PS3. Moving it down to $429 would fix that, and create a palatable price difference for 'new' customers deciding between the systems. - charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Ok...we'll see MalDON...we'll see...lol. I like how people pronounce the system dead before any of the first party traditional games like MGS4, Ratchet and Clank, and FFXIII are even released. It's really laughable. At $500 the PS3 is the best deal out there. You have to pay up for quality.
- kauko, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Sure, we have regional variation in salaries too (housing prices of course vary accordingly) and prices for stuff like PS3 are pretty much the same everywhere. We don't have much variation in the price of food, gasoline, clothing, electricity etc. though, with the exception of some really remote areas.
I was just trying to get a some sort of a general feel how it is, but it might be indeed difficult without concentrating on a specific area or a profession. It's the same here in EU, per country information is only half of the truth as there are big variations inside the countries too. - honkeybot5k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4PSST, they're gonna make more games. And also, Dead Rising is on the 360, brainiac.
- inspecality, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8That would put it on an even playing field with the 360. I would even buy one, probably without any games too.
- djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5No, Engadget reported that Sony's mouthpiece in Japan states no price cuts are coming.
He could have just as easily been referring to Japan, where the PS3 was much cheaper than it is in the US. - NiGHTSChao, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Can someone tell me what Zombie games are even on the PS3?
- dodgyd55, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5now to find some way of importing it to the uk without being raped on import charges etc..
- BugMeNot2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Resident Evil 5...?
