You fail. Learn to do math fanboy. - rivalius13, on 10/17/2007, -4/+34A reduction in price has resulted in a sales spike!
This is a first for commerce! - hadiz, on 10/17/2007, -6/+33Hopefully they will hurry up and announce this in America; we all know it is inevitable. And as a bonus they will finally match the 360 in terms of number of SKUs and obscurity. Just as a recap:
There was a 60GB ($599) and a gimped 20GB ($499), the latter of which was given the chop.
Then they dropped the price of the 60GB to the price of the now-defunct 20GB ($499), and put out another SKU for the same price as the 60GB was originally ($599) but included a 20GB larger hard drive, a game, and a missing emotion engine.
Now they are going to stop manufacturing the 60GB altogether, will have the aforementioned 80GB ($599) still, and a new semi-gimped 40GB ($399) model which will be missing two USB ports and that damned emotion engine. At least they are not removing key features like the wireless internet connectivity, I mean who really cares about two missing USB ports? When are you going to use more than two at a time anyway? I guess we'll see if backwards compatibility is really that important to people… - GenrlZod, on 10/18/2007, -7/+30I think the 40GB is a great player for Sony.
Who needs a an extra 2 USB ports? - If you wanted to charge both controllers at the same time and need to use a stick, you can simply 1. Get a USB hub or 2. Use the PC USB ports to charge the pads whilst using the PS3 ports for whatever else you want.
As for backwards compatibility on the 40GB - who gives a flying *****? - Since owning a PS3 i haven't and never intend to play any of my PS2 games on it. This is the next generation console and thats exactly what it should be compatible for! - mywhitenoise, on 10/17/2007, -4/+2510 to 1? Where the ***** did you pull that out of? Your ass?
- djSyndrome, on 10/17/2007, -4/+22More like Truspector's ass.
- digudown, on 10/18/2007, -0/+16Buy the 80 GB model.

Man seriously do you guys actually have NOTHING better to do? If Sony sucks so bad and your Wii's and 360's are so amazing then why don't you go play them instead of spending so much time trolling PS3 threads? - krische, on 10/17/2007, -7/+21A quick note before people start posting saying the is PS3 selling horribly.
The PS3 is selling just as well as the xbox 360 was a year after its launch.
http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii®1=All ... - HonkIfUrHorny, on 10/17/2007, -7/+19You know what else would lead to a huge sales increase? SOME GOOD GAMES.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/17/2007, -0/+11Same here, I don't care for sales, as long as Sony releases all the games that have been announced.
- AntBing, on 10/17/2007, -1/+12I use the wireless on my 60GB and play Warhawk without any problems. Running CAT5 all around my house is no longer necessary and I couldn't be happier.
- triplehelix, on 10/17/2007, -2/+13only looking at the one week that halo3 was released does not equal normal sales volume.
think about it. even if we forget that the 360 came out a year before the ps3, the 360 should be at 20 million to be at 4:1, not 11ish. - JayD16, on 10/22/2007, -0/+11I don't know...I can't wait to see Santa try out the crazy moves he learned in Warhawk.
- jacksons98, on 10/17/2007, -2/+12I love how these Xbox fans are yelling "so they sold *** more than last time lol" when it's currently outselling their system in that territory.
- whateverHeSaid, on 10/24/2007, -5/+15Hey TrueSpec..., um, I mean KingGoonie. Aren't 30% of 360s sold broken?
Seriously, dude. STFU! Did a PS3 kill your puppy or something or are you just a pissed little teen whose mommy and daddy won't buy him the PS3 that he secretly desires? - ZenMojo, on 10/17/2007, -2/+12The Xbox 360 was never the cheaper option with their accessories compared. The Xbox 360 was only ever cheaper without wireless, without a hard drive, and without Xbox Live.
- seandaly, on 10/17/2007, -1/+11He didn't say it was catching up, he said that the console is just about where the 360 was 1 year after it's release. So, comparing two consoles, each 1 year after they were respectively released, the two are about equal.
That chart shows both consoles selling about 6 million units by the end of the first year of release. - mywhitenoise, on 10/17/2007, -4/+13"I am still buying PS2 games lol"
was that 'lol' really necessary? - objectcode, on 10/17/2007, -1/+10i also forgot to laugh
- objectcode, on 10/17/2007, -0/+9even this lame joke has been told more than that
- KenDigg, on 10/17/2007, -3/+11Mind that this is all happening before the release of the truly big titles. New surprise hits like Folklore (and I'd wager Eye of Judgment is going to do quite well) are small boosts leading up to the craziness that will be MGS4 and the two Final Fantasy titles.
PS3 is doing just fine and it is only going to get better. - krische, on 10/17/2007, -2/+10I never said the PS3 was catching up, just that it isn't doing worse than the 360. Of course the 360 is going to have more units sold, it has been out a year longer!
- krische, on 10/17/2007, -0/+8Okay, so wait. You'd rather buy a kick-ass gaming rig for probably 1200-1500 instead of a 400 dollar console? *rolls eyes*
- ausfahrt, on 10/17/2007, -1/+9More to play on it than my Wii.
- BattleScars, on 10/17/2007, -0/+7No...it reflects the sales in the UK...hence the words "in UK". There is a clue in the title you see?
- postalblowfish7, on 10/17/2007, -1/+8i bought the 80gig, found out it used software emulation, returned it for a 60.
backwards compatibility IS an issue for some people. i already have a huge ps2 library, why the ***** should i have to have two playstations plugged into my already-a-mess-of-tangled-chords TV hookup system. i want a single box that will allow me to play final fantasy I through final fantasy XIII. the 60gig is the only one to allow me to do so. - jacksons98, on 10/23/2007, -2/+9Wii sells fine without games. PS3 has at least twice as many good games as that system.
- hadiz, on 10/17/2007, -5/+11You bring up another point I failed to mention, I think many people were using the backwards compatibility mainly because there is a crappy library for the PS3, so they figure "hey, at least I can play all my old games." So yeah, if Sony would put out a decent library and not a bunch of lackluster titles like Lair and Heavenly Sword people would start to care much less about backwards compatibility.
(And despite sounding like a PS3 hater, I have one and love it.) - kyrre, on 10/18/2007, -1/+7Makes sense. Stick it to Sony by buying that PS2 compatible Xbox 360.
- sowhat5828, on 10/17/2007, -0/+642
- hockey, on 10/17/2007, -3/+9Then get back to work and quit trolling. If you are going to waste time at work on digg the LEAST you could do is try to actually add something to the conversation.
/continues to waste time at work on digg. - DrThunder, on 10/17/2007, -2/+8The 360 is doing horrible in Japan not even selling more units then the first Xbox. And in Europe outside of England the 360 is not doing very well. The PS3 is only in it first year, the 360 only had one good game in its first year, Gears of War and the PS3 will have more than that. This time next year the PS3 will probably have the same install base as the 360 did in the same amount of time.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/18/2007, -6/+12king goonie isn't a 360 fan, he's worse, a Wii one.

- hockey, on 10/17/2007, -1/+7For the record I don't even own a PS3. I'm just tired of all the idiot trolling.
- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -0/+6So what your saying is that your a moron for not buying bluetooth stuff then?
- BattleScars, on 10/17/2007, -1/+6Even the 'gimped' PS3 is better than the 'Elite' 360 and they are the same price. In summary, 360 = Utterly *****.
- bigbadgoat, on 10/18/2007, -0/+5so decide, clutter, or $100.
- objectcode, on 10/17/2007, -1/+6MGS 4 is whats gonna make me want a PS3. other than that i was just waiting for the price to drop and other good games to be released
- triplehelix, on 10/17/2007, -5/+10nobody is telling you you have to get rid of that PS2 when you get a PS3. i dust off and hook up the atari every once in a blue.
- D1lux, on 10/17/2007, -1/+6your comment makes as much sense as your defficient math skills.
Stay in school kid and go do your homework instead of posting on digg. - Dokument, on 10/17/2007, -4/+9that was so funny i forgot to laugh
- krische, on 10/17/2007, -0/+4Well, I'm sure there are many more factors than just that. But I could see them more so basing it off of the current customer base for each console and the rate at which they are selling. So for instance the PS3 may have less numbers now, but if customer base seems to be growing significantly, then it is a contender.
Just my $.02 - BattleScars, on 10/17/2007, -0/+4This just in: You're a douche.
"I don't know a soul who owns one"
Correction: You're a douche with no friends. - mythicflux, on 10/17/2007, -4/+8"MS will just counter Sony's price drop and make this all irrelevant anyways."
Because market economics appear to elude you I humbly suggest that you can only drop the price of a product for so long. What makes you think that Microsoft can afford more price cuts? - DagYo, on 10/16/2007, -1/+5i just waiting for a $400 dollar white one and gt5
